Mandalay Hill St, Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma), Sagaing
A massive Buddha statue & a grand gilded pagoda surrounded by many smaller towers.
This is a beautiful site withe pretty amazing architecture. Particularly enjoyed the expanse of white stupas when taking in the view from the shrine area which was slightly elevated. Though a holy ground, there are lots of photo opportunities for appreciation of the beauty of this place. The scriptures that were carved into slabs of stones and preserved till to date was a pretty remarkable heritage of the forefathers of Myanmar. Definitely worth a visit! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This pagoda contains the graves of the Kanaung, Sagu Mintha, Malun and Maingpyin Princes.[2] It also contains an iron image of the Buddha cast by Bodawpaya in 1802, and removed from Amarapura by Mindon in 1874.[2] The statue reportedly weighs 40,924.8 pounds (18,563.2 kg).[1]
Very beautiful
The great Buddhists teachings made with marble stone
The congested ones, too close enough to not let you go inside, but just wonder why so many!!
Very cool! Many stupas with marble slabs, and very pretty and well maintained.
A must visit temple in mandalay, there is also the worlds largest book in this temple
A sea of whitewashed stupas sets Sandamuni Pagoda apart from the thousand other pagodas that you will likely visit in Mandalay. If you take your time to observe the architecture, you will be rewarded with intricate details, linear perspectives and geometric patterns. A favorite place for marriage pictures, the brightly colored clothes of brides-to-be will contrast with the stark whiteness of the pagodas. Monks in saffron robes compete for your attention. During the visit, I did not mind being barefoot because I felt like I was floating on a magic carpet.
It is a beautiful pagoda which is covered with thousands of pagodas ! Actually the main golden pagoda is surrounded with 1700 of white little little pagados and it is a beautifull sight !! You will also get a areal view of this pagodas from mandalay hill !! And it is must visit
I cant go to inside white stupa, I dont know why but all gate are locked when I arrive there. Parking fee for motorbike 300 Kyat
Devine experience. One of the kind pagoda in Myanmar
One of the first pagoda where tipitaka scripture was encased many centuries ago by a monk. Each stone slab has a scripture inside of a mini pagoda. Looks beautiful
One of the largest pagodas In Mandalay. The Sandamuni Pagoda (also Sandamani, because it contains the largest iron Buddha, the "Sandamani"), or Paya, is located to the southeast of Mandalay Hill and bears a resemblance to the nearby Kuthodaw pagoda because of the large number of slender whitewashed ancillary stupas on the grounds.
Beautiful site with countless pagodas. It’s free to walk in but you can also leave a donation if you wish to. I would recommend visiting early in the morning or late afternoon before sunset to avoid the heat.Toilets are available outside the complex, a short 2 minute on the right hand side of the main gate. There are also plenty of food stalls at the exit. There is enough place to park a car outside.
A walking distance away from Kuthodaw Pagoda and the place wasnt crowded. Didnt spend too much time there as the pagoda was under restoration when I visited. It would be beautiful once it is done. Be sure to take off your shoes and dress appropriately.
The most unique of this place is that there is thousands of small temples. My buddhas friend said that in each temple, Buddha’ masrer enchant a spell inside. I dont know whether it’s right, but it is a feeling of peach in each pagoda I go. Feel that I can spend the rest of my life here
Very well decorated Pagoda just beside the Royal Palace. Worth visiting at evening. Open till 8pm.
One of the most beautiful temple in Mandalay . The temple is so beautiful .
new parking system is niceevery body rest in their park
The lake behind the Pagoda is so fantastic and ancient designed.
Nice
This is similar to the nearby Kuthodaw pagoda because of the large number of whitewashed ancillary stupas, also each containing a tablet of scriptures - 1774 in total! Each slab measuring 1.68 meters tall and 1.07 meters wide! Wow. The pagoda houses the largest iron Buddha image in Burma, named the Sandamani image, cast in 1802 from of almost 41,000 pounds of iron, it is now covered with a layer of gold. Its difficult to get a true perspective of the number and e extent of these buildings. Aerial photos or Google Maps view helps.
Beautiful place
This is actually a better sightseeing experience than Mandalay Hill due to the fact it sees far less visitors. Not much shade around the large central stupa, so go earlier in the day to beat the heat.
Yet another beautiful temple area in Mandalay. Walk around the savour the place
This is a really nice place! Temples here are awesome!
Very peaceful place with good vibes, so quite and beautiful
Beautiful pagoda located near the northeast corner of the Golden Palace at Mandalay. It is known for its multitude of white stupas that give it a very unique look. It was built in the late 19th century as a memorial to a young prince who was assasinated during a rebellion.
This is such a stunning pagoda. There were only about 4 people when I went so it was quite peaceful.
One of the most biggest library and beautiful pagoda.
Free entry, right across the street from Kuthodaw Pagoda, and next to the climb up Mandalay Hill. Bring a bag to carry your shoes & socks.
Amazaing feeling and Peace of your mind in this pagoda .
This place is at the foot of Mandalay Hill near the northeast corner of Mandalay Palace. There are many tablets know as the Worlds biggest books. There are 4 entrances. But nothern entrance is locked and you can easily enter through the left doors. The following photo is taken near southern entrance when I visit there.
"The biggest book" in the world. Very good atmosphere
We checked this temple out on our walk back from the top of Mandalay hill at Sunrise. Was well worth the visit. We were here mid morning and it wasnt crowded and not to Hot.
Nice temple
Beautiful place to see the sunset. The colour it’s just magical! Free entrance
Beautiful temple, try to arrive there late afternoon to meet its poudre-white pagodas in the rays of the setting sun. Gorgeous!
I admired from afar rather than actually enter the complex
Nice place to visit. We have been there at the evening without tourists and it was good idea I thing.
Near Mandalay Hill, ancient and historic pagoda.
Great place to worship, photo shooting and understnd the buddha literature...
The design of Sanda Muni is very close to that of Kuthodaw, but since its so close, our driver dropped us off there too and we walked through it. Equally beautiful~
Love it, amazing structures, wonderful Buddhist knowledge!!! 🙏
Peaceful and beautiful. The rows of white stuples are pretty cool. Bells ringing everywhere.
Very beautiful place
This pagoda has a lot of little mini structures that house stone slabs with scriptures. There are over 1000 of these surrounding the pagoda. Very cool sight to see!
Unesco heritage sight. Just for the fact that it consists of the biggest book?! Well...it is nice to have seen
Home to the "worlds largest book" - housed as stone tablets in rows of gleaming white pagodas. Truly a sight to behold. Theres a nice vantage point just a short way up nearby Mandalay Hill too!
Though not as popular as Kuthodaw Pagoda, the 1774 small pagodas here in Sandamuni seem to be part of the same collection, though possibly not as well kept. If you carry your shoes/slippers, you can enter on the western side and exit on the eastern side on your way to Kuthodaw.
