San San Beach - Public beach in Port Maria, Jamaica
Perfect place to chill with partner or even on family beach trip
A beautiful part of Jamaica and the beach area plus Frenchmans cove is fantastic! 🌅 🌺 🇯🇲 🧡 🇸🇪
It was very calm and spacious. There was no garbage. If youre not fond of any sea creatures the fish may be a problem for you because they are very friendly, but otherwise its a great place.
One of the beach you MUST visit in Portland
Nice private beach with amazing views. Very close to the blue lagoon. I recommend parking here for a small price. We met Junior here - a lovely young chap who arranged for Ringo ( who by the way starred in the new Bond movie as an extra biker )to collect us from this beach and took us around Monkey Island, to see the tortoises in the lagoon and all around the actual blue lagoon in his boat. Far cheaper than parking at Blue lagoon with the touts draining you for money and also a much nicer experience.
Calm
If you love the beach, you should definitely try here
What can I say? Its stunning beach scenery overlooking Monkey Island, and it’s less than 16mins by taxi from the town of Port Antonio. As we approached the beach, there was a gate, and gentlemen asked us to pay an entrance fee of $600 per person at the gate to enter the beach. That would be $600 ad it was four adults and three kids, but we said no, that’s too much money. We went back into the car, stayed for a while, and discussed what to do next but then decided, you know what? We are here already.Guess the gentleman is a lifeguard, it seems. We approached the gate one more time. He then said he was leaving, but if we entered, we would be on our own; we then offered him $400 for all of us to enter the gate, which, to my surprise, he did accept, lol. Guess the beach is free after late evening because the gate is left open; we should have waited a bit longer,, lol.Anyway, this might’ve been a one-off occurrence. I think I somehow knew this guy from a community in Drapers. Maybe he recognized me too or not, anyway. It was late in the evening and getting dark, so we tried to enjoy the little time we had on the seaside before it got dark, and we couldnt see since no light was on the beach. The kids loved the beach and playing in the sand. I don’t see any changing room or a lot of seaweed. I dont see a changing room, but I won’t complain we had water in the car to wash the sand off before entering the vehicle. My visit to the beach was in 2016-2017. I think so many things might have changed by then.I hope the person reading this will enjoy the beauty of the beach and take good care of the beach, please. To enter the beach, bring food and your entry fee. There is the famous blue lagoon nearby you can get a good wash from the sea.Just make it a one-stop blue lagoon and San San beach. I can say Portland is so interesting to explore.
ITs an hidden gem and by far my favorite beach..The water is clean and warm...such a beautiful place to visit, unwind and relax
Lovely beach with friendly staff. The shoreline teaming with life. You might be able to see stingray that I might add that they are shy and will keep their distance. Starfish can be also be seen on some session of the beach. If you want you can also take a boat ride over to monkey island.
It is inexpensive and roughly 800 JMD (6 USD). Its clean and there are amenities available. San San Beach is a go to.
Great vibe, clean beach and secured parking
lovely
It was a big disappointment. The place needs proper maintenance and fixing for a tourist area. we paid 750 for entry fee....500 for chair rental. There are showers however we were told its for tourist and not locals.... One life guard and the only entertainment was available is the tour on the boat at a cost of 1000.00. The overall experience was very poor and for the cost to enter. Water was dirty . it wasnt worth it.
Nice but no shower area and you pay $800 as a Jamaican. Beautiful view though
Its a nice lowkey beach. Cost J$800 to enter and you must bring your own beach stuff and food. Also, as it gets closer to the evening, the shore line disappears.
Nice beach relaxing shallow waters however
Absolutely beautiful and life guards on duty
Beautiful beach. Facilities were being refurbished when I visited
Disappointed with the service and the maintenance of the beach. No proper bathrooms and no changing rooms. We were looking forward to one of the best beaches in Jamaica and our childhood memories.
Dont visit this place, its just waste of money. Nothing spacial here. The staff try to scamming us with the boat tour. You have to pay 1000 Jamaican Dollar for entrance to the beach, but the beach is really dirty.
The beach is clean and nice....not much traffic. You pay a small entry fee. Last time i took the kids, the restuarant was closed....so had to drive further to Boston for food. So if ur planning to go to San San....at least carry juice/water and snacks.
Not overcrowded when we visited. Parts of the water covered heavily with seaweed but still able to have a nice easy laid back day at the beach, with a quick boat ride to Monkey island and Blue Lagoon
Clear water with white sand beach, very Serene and relaxing. Courteous staff.
Nice but too much seaweed. And sand is half organic mulch from seaweed.
was lovely to me it just need some work to be done on the sea weed in some sections of the water other than that it was grate
Currently the beach is very dirty and looks abandoned
They charge 1000 JMD for entrance - after I said I will go to another beach, the guard told me that I dont come back again, lol. Very rude
Very nice beach private and quiet✌
Nice long beach with great view of Mokey Island. Perfect for a picnic
Lovely beach with food and fresh water to clean up..
Lovely beach on a beautiful day, good for a lazy day with family
Gorgeous beach but there are others nearby that you dont have to pay to get in.
The beach is well kept, clean white sand, crystal clear waters, shade provided by nearby trees, bathroom facilities available, just a boat ride away from the famous blue lagoon and monkey island, I definately recommend 👍
Unbelievably nice!
Great ambiance nice environment
San San Beach a beautiful white sand beach near the Blue Lagoon and Frenchmans Cove. A public beach with an entry fee provide a snack counter, bathroom and toilets. A snorkeling and swimming haven make it one of Portland Parishes best beaches.
San san beach is one of the most beautiful place in portland ,the tranquility is one of a kind the staff is always willing to serve you
Beach is nice but 8$US p.p .....
A beautiful white sand beach to visit which offers you the opportunity to see the Blue Lagoon and Monkey island that are near by.
Nice beach but its currently in a mess it need proper cleaning and taking care of
This beach is really filthy.... for a beach where you pay to enter it should be well maintained but it is not. Bottles and plastic all over the beach its very unhealthy.
Ive given this beach four points because of the inconsistency of staff in terms of friendliness and politeness. This beach is usually clean and well maintained. It should be noted however that this beach caters to small groups that are quite and usually have guests that are upper middle class upwards if that information matters to you.
Went there on Easter Monday and it was very private. 700 to enter.
It has a nice scenery but charges too much money and the place is not well kept.
15 minutes East of Port Antonio we went to San San Beach. Its about a mile past Frenchmans Cove. There is a large white sign on the left that will read San San Beach!A guy casually came over to us and explained that although it wasnt posted, there was a charge to use this beach. For locals its $700/adult $300/kid ($1400/Adult if you are visitingIts a big wide beach. That actually has amazing silky white sand!!BUT... for this price I feel there should have been a little more effort put in to keeping the place in better condition. There was another guy raking a bit of the washed up seaweed but he was not doing much.My biggest negative was1. There was incredible amounts of seaweed floating in the main water area where you swim. It made it difficult to swim without getting tied up. It would be nice to have had this cleaned away somehow.2. I know garbage comes in from boats far out but I got a plastic bag on me and later my 7 yr old held up a large clear plastic bag with a distraught look on his face asking whats this?3. Finally even though the sand was incredibly smooth and silky....it was hard to tally enjoy because every 30 feet or so you would literally stumble across a half buried coral bolder that you would stub your foot on and actually hurt as they were anchored an not easily moved and they were super jagged and painful if you stepped on one. Often where there was one you would find two or three next to it so you never knew which way to stumble to safe footing. I must have hurt my feet a dozen times which although had smooth sand the rest of the times, I was moving very cautiously trying to save myself from landing on another painful jagged rock!It was nice enough for a simple time at a beach and the water was fairly warm (although the rougher waters made the water completely unable to see through using snorkeling gearbut for the money I may consider an immaculate Frenchmans Cove.FYI...We flagged a Taxi home.... $120/adult $50/kid to Port Antonio.Once at Port, we ate at THE ITALIAN JOB! (Just up from the Jerk CentreNice Pizzas $1200ja for basic large Pizza. $2500 for loaded.
Its nice and cool and quiet
Really really lovely beach!! can only be rivaled by Lyssons & Boston Bay Beach. It has trees on it & grass so its cool, its quiet, has changing rooms, water is gentle...very scenic. A whole day visit.
