Popular place with historical aircraft/spacecraft & interactive exhibits, plus a gift shop & grill.
It was fine. They use older scanning equipment for TSA and the agents are grumpy compared to other airports. But that’s really a TSA issue and not the airport. The airport is nice.
Terminal 1 review only: (for Southwest)Each gate area is laid out in a circular orientation. Limited food, poor selection and overpriced and expensive. Two separate gate areas that do not connect so must go through security checkpoints for each. One bathroom for each. Seats have USB ports BUT they do not function. Overcrowded. If flying Southwest you may want to consider an alternate airport although none are close.
San Diego has not changed in YEARS ⏰Definitely in need of updatesThis airport is surprisingly small for such a popular travel spotAlthough it’s pretty easy to navigate from one gate to another
This was my first time flying from San Diego International Airport. I was a great experience. The screen with the arriving and departure flights were right at the entrece to the terminal. Because I had check-in with my airline via the app I didnt have to wait in line, just pass security and find my gate. That was also easy to find, thanks to the clear sings. There are a lot of stores to buy food, beverages, magazines, souvenirs etc. There are plenty seating areas. Restrooms are clean and easy to find.
Relative to large hub airports, San Diego is a cozy affair. Small but very neat and modern with a chill vibe, with adequate mic of shops and restaurants. Easy to access in an out, except on busy travel days when traffic gets too heavy especially on lower Arrivals level.
Very fast and easy to get in and out and get your luggage One of the best. Theyre in the process of building a new terminal which is going to take several years to get operational and it needs it only because there are no places to relax and unwind. After youve cleared security and are waiting at the gates, It is a tiny area and almost a holding area only. Only one place to sit down have a drink or a bite to eat. Everything else is vending machines dial and sitting in the usual chairs lol.
Flew Southwest. Terminal was easy to get in and out of. Really appreciated the nice lower level waiting area. Definitely want to budget time to go through security. B11-B18 gate area was a rotunda and very busy, but people were mellow about it. Had the feeling is a smaller airport, while being anything but.
Always a terrific experience. Everything is so great and easy. With the opening of Terminal 2, checking in through security is even more seamless. It took 17 min to go from the car in the parking lot to the gate. I always recommend this airport. One of the best.
Love this airport 🙌🙌🙌 quaint and convenient. Wonderful choices for meals, snacks, drinks, cafes, and shops. Love the massage stops (Be Relaxand local vendors. Always feels clean and kept in the restrooms, seating areas, and cafeterias. Love this is my home port!
Over all clean, well kept, kind emoloyees, and a great backdrop for Military Homecoming Photos when our service members are coming home after a long deployment. Might need to step back to have ample space but well worth it. Pro tip, sometimes its best just to park on the 3rd floor and anyways, dont bother with the first 2!
Not a bad airport at all. Seems fairly small and easy to navigate. The weather is good and its clean. Clear signage for Uber ride-sharing too. Thats always a plus.
Unfortunately I had to deduct 3-stars for crowded curbs, small terminals, and lack of shopping and amenities after security. But,SAN gets 1-star back for one of the fastest TSA; possibly because each group of gates get their own TSA. Instead of an entire terminal sharing one TSA.
Saw a ticketing/checked bag line out the door before 5am this morning. I have CLEAR and stations are not obvious. I’ve never used CLEAR here.
Although I wanted to give this airport 5 stars I couldn’t due to the lack of space for gates 5-10. This area is always congested. Not place to sit and few places to eat due to the lack of space. Nonetheless great views landing and taking off.
The airport is really crowded and full. Im not completely sure if the building has air conditioning, but its very warm inside. The process is a bit weird to get to your gate, but not extremely confusing. They have a few stores that sell candy, gum, chargers, luggage, headphones, etc. They also have a Peets Coffee and Starbucks for coffee lovers. Overall, an ok airport, could definitely be better. 3/5 stars.
I think this airport is good but wasn’t happy with the car rental transportation given to and from the car rental complex. It is done using busses and they are limited in capacity and when returning your car the shuttle drops you off at the doors for arriving flights and not departing flights. This is only a little more walking but you drive right by the doors where you need to go to check in. I am willing to give a 5 star review if someone can put a little more thought to where and how they drop of people who are departing. Still a good experience just think it is a small thing that should have been addressed. Thanks San Diego and see you soon!
Close to freeway 5. Big signs guiding you to arrivals and departures. Enter a BIG parking building Right next to the luggage carousels. Elevators take you up and down, and dont forget to pay for the parking at the machine next to the elevators, BEFORE you get in your car,...or youll be trapped in the line to exit and cant get out until you pay and validate your parking ticket.Very clean and courteous people to help guide you or even give you a ride if you are disabled or older and could use a lift.
Was very well kept up and felt modern to. Clean throughout and good amenities for shopping and what not. COME EARLY! Baggage check is a nightmare to get through but TSA was quick enough. Single run way so expect to be sitting and waiting a lot. Baggage claim was easy to find and very fast to get to the street.
Terminal 2 is very nice and airy, while Terminal 1 is currently very cramped. Very close to city. Wish the trolley connected directly but the current bus-based solutions are easy enough once you figure out the signage to locate them. Good dining and shop options, too.
We love our airport in San Diego. Service to anywhere you want (at least by connecting to lax on a diet commuter flight), but still a small airport and ready to navigate. Cant wait for the new terminal 1 in a few years!
Small-ish airport that has some of the fastest TSA screening on the west coast, which mainly seems due to the number of agents staffed.Food - not many great options once inside, so I make it a point to eat before getting to this airport.
Everything worked as planned and designed. Clean facilities, concourse and passenger areas. Good signage for helping you reach baggage claim or your gate if outbound. While I did not partake, the dining options are numerous and seem diverse in cuisine and cost. UNITED check in was quick and the staff helpful with the kiosk.
Been to the airport couple of times very small yet very clean and organized and staff members very friendly and every time I was able to catch my flight on time and they had couple of lounge options and few restaurants and coffee shops available for you. Also was able to see flight status as they had multiple screens all over to check flight status for any delays.Overall nice airport
The airport was fine, but the ladies room near the baggage pick up was disgusting. I found one clean bathroom. Ive never seen it like this. Aside from that, it would be more fun to have some history, art, or nature to look at.
san diego international airport is a great airport. clean, sleek, and efficient. took less than 10 minutes to get out of the airport from my terminal 👍🏽
Great airport, easy and no hassles. We were dropping off a friend but had a rare encounter with unusual heavy traffic going into the terminal 2 entrance. One way to avoid the long line is to exit into terminal 1 and just drive or walk down a bit further to reach terminal 2 departures. A kind parking tenant gave us the advice.
San Diego airline lines can be slow but overall it’s fairly efficient. Gate security lines move fast and there is TSA and Clear. I love the reflection room. Delta Sky Club is upstairs in terminal 2 and always has good choices. Happy Travels!
Wow... One of the most crowded and unorganized airports I have ever flown out of. It feels like the people who built this airport werent anticipating it to be such a popular place. Every gate is PACKED with people. Barely any seating and the walkways are narrow too. Each gate has dingy yellow lights and hardly any power outlets. Not a very fun environment to hangout in, especially during layovers. After I got my two free bags checked in for Southwest, I went to the closest security check area and waited in line. Once I got through the 25 minute line... the security guard told me this line was ONLY for gates 5 to 10! I was turned away. Not a single employee mentioned this to anyone in line and the only signage was at the entrance. Many people went through that entire line just to be directed to an EVEN LONGER line for gates 11 to 18! Luckily I arrived at the airport 1.5 hrs early...Not only that, the staff seem to all be stressed out and just act as urgently as possible! Unhappy workers and travelers... Pretty unorganized, stressful, and uncomfortable.
This is one of those good and bad terminal airports in the USA. Terminal 1 at San Diego is the worst airport terminal at SAN. When I visited back in February 2022. Terminal 1, was horrible! It only had a few shops in the gate area. It’s also very crowded, and too small for the number of flights departing in and out of here on a daily basis, Worse, they are doing construction here and by renovating it, it will be PACKED, since they have closed parking at Terminal 1. On the other hand, Terminal 2 at San Diego is much more nicer. Even though I never been to it, it is convenient, beautiful and has CLEAR. Before San Diego international airport didn’t have clear and it was just horrible. Thank god they do now.Tips:If you are flying Southwest, be sure to get to terminal 1 EARLY. Since they closed parking. You need to get there early, otherwise there will be a big traffic jam and you will have to be dropped off at terminal 2. Overall I give this airport a 3/5 for now. Once it’s renovated, it will be an awesome airport !!!
If you are returning rental car, leave early. Took us 1 hour to arrive to airport on shuttle after dropping off car. Security line was fast. For this size of airport, not many restaurants to sit down and eat at. Signage is very limited. Changed my rating to a 2 from a 3. Cannot even purchase a glass of wine! Thanks
Dropping off and picking up folks is smooth and stress-free at the clearly marked signs for the various airlines. I love this airport compared to others Ive used domestically! Even car rental pick-up and drop-off is smooth and effortless! I wish other airports were designed like this one!
It was pretty busy when I had to drop off my husband on a very early Monday morning earlier this month, & a quicker in & out in the early afternoon just recently. The layout that they have made for departure & arrivals is so much smoother & faster than jamming them both together. Easier to get in & get out to leave. As long as everyone is paying attention, reading the signs, it moves by dry smooth. Very happy with how the airport is now & the expansion of terminal 1 will be incredible. Cannot wait to see.
Aside from the overpriced food and gift shops this airport is set up as more of a destination than connecting place. Beautiful surroundings... art and beach life themed offerings and despite being smaller on average than other international airports has very spacious amenities. Definitely not a bad place to have a multiple hours long layover.
This was my first time flying to SAN in about 4 years. The new terminal 2 is really nice! Spacious, well lit and plenty of stores, bars and restaurants. Well done!
Nice little airport, good workout walking from one end to the other. Decent seating with many of them having built in power ports.Cool led virtual swimming pool on the ceilingNice fountain.
I love that this airport is so artsy and its very clean in comparison to other airports. If youve done some traveling you know what I mean. It was perfect timing, no long waits today, no unexpected shenanigans. But they did check my hands for bombs so its safe also
As airports go, the San Diego International Airport is as good as most. It was well laid out and comfortable. You felt safe, and there were different places to get a bite. No one really wants to hang around an airport, but if you have to, this is a nice one.
San Diego International airport is conveniently designed. I took Southwest airlines in terminal 1. Masks are still required inside. When going through TSA screening, passengers have to take off their shoes to go through the scanning machines. The check-in process is fairly fast and easy.
This airport was a quiet and pleasant experience for my first time arrival. By the time we deplaned, used the restroom and headed to baggage claim #5, the remaining bags were being gathered already! What? We were the last ones to get our bag, which the airport guy had already put on his cart. I was not expecting the bags at all to be on the carousel!! Getting to the rental car center across the street for the shuttle bus was easy-breezy. Leaving the airport around noon, well my picture says it all.
Comfortable, efficient airport.Nice amenities. Plenty of restrooms.A few aerodactyls were present when I was there.Very traveler friendly airport and area.
Check-in was a little messy. I was getting dropped off but failed to notice any signage in parking garage for my airline. Hence, we short termed in wrong end. Made U-turn. Checking bags went fast and smooth. Then came the jam for security. We once again failed to notice the other side of the line for security. We waited in the long line, with everyone else. I will know next time. BTW, I made my flight on-time.
Small airport that does the job. Parking/pick-up can be a bit chaotic, but other than that it meets expectations.Relatively clean with solid food options, the highlight being a stone brewery in the place.Pro tip: you can order a beer and walk around the airport with it
The San Diego airport is smaller then other international airports that I have been to, though that doesnt change how many shops and people are inside of it. The airport is extremely clean and beautiful and surrounded by many beautiful buildings, so during take off and landing the view is quite the thing! This review is small, and I will be updating it after I use the airport for a second time during my departure.Thank you for reading, have a good day!
Located right on the harbor near Downtown San Diego, this airport is very easy to navigate, relatively small, and very clean. Only having two terminals, its a very easy in and out whether youre picking up or dropping off. Parking is reasonably priced and easy to manage. USO is great for our service members who need some shut eye.
San Diego Comic Con International Special Edition 2021 was a "light" version of past years. It was refreshingly not as crowded, no big name movie companies. It was great.
A big but nice airport all time improving with really nice people serving around it. The international Airport had even brewery inside the place. Nice interactive sections around the airportand is a really easy going place. ✈
Although it is one of the smaller airports it supports a large number of people coming and going on a daily basis! My friends and I noted that as soon as the clock hit 6:30, the planes were out of there. They are very efficient and move customers along!
Traveling on 9/11/21. Less crowds, fast TSA checked, clean, organized, beautiful airport interior and location, short walk to the gate, easily navigate around the terminal.
A busy airport, conveniently located right at the downtown. The larger size comes with some down sides, such as cluttered waiting areas by the gates, but in general all seems to run smoothly... For social distancing during the pandemic, a lot remains to be improved (but that seems to be the general goat everywhere with travel now).Good ground transport connections to the car rentals etc.
A ok place to plane spot if your willing to do that unless your at the airport parking area which is out of the airport but left of the runway if your facing left. But, everything here is great. If your flying on an airline the waiting seats have so many outlets for every device you have. If you want a quick snack you have multiple restaurants to choose from. Many stores too! But, my experience was great and look forwarding to flying there again!
