Sam Poh Tong Temple in Ipoh
Description
Privilege
Peaceful and serene surroundings. There is a tortoise pond here. Worth a visit.
Interesting temple build onto a cave. Calm and peaceful environment.
We had some great time walking in and around the came temple. Beautiful Water flowers and tortoises
MoreOne of the oldest buddhist cave temple must visit in ipoh and also the limestone hill is amazing!
Moreok to visit, except the place is in poor maintenance, it could be better.
This place is great, not many people, but good place to hang around for around 30mins, feed turtle as well feeding the fish.. bringing kids is good too
MoreSignificantly smaller in scale, wth many pathways closed to visitors. The cave has been painted white so it also has a very artificial feel to it. Not worth going unless youre there to feed the turtles.
MoreWe reached the place at 1pm and the old lady tending to the temple started chasing visitors out saying that it would start raining soon when the sun was still shining brightly outside. Some visitors who came had to turn back. So we didnt have a good look at the temple. What a waste! Visitors who intend to visit this temple has to take note to come in the morning on a bright sunny day.
MoreI love how this temple isnt that crowded compared to others. The surroundings are calm and quiet. There is nothing much to do here, great for people who love sightseeing and something not so touristy.
MoreNice and cozy temple/cave. Very well maintain and the place was clean overall. Perfect for a short walk and relax.
MoreAs a tourist? Its very run down. Sad to see such a nice place not receiving the proper care. Perhaps if youre the religious sort you kight not kind it too much.
MoreTurtle temple..a lot fishes and turtles can get feed them vegetables and tomato.buy..rm4 from the temple helpers.. recommended temple to visit
More❤️❤️❤️Serenity at its Best! Lovely temple by the cave, and it does feel likeYou are in China🤭 in a second,No charge entry & you can do some donation to keep the place goin about👍🏻Tortoise pond for feeding👍🏻& Fish pond for feeding as well👍🏻*You can purchase tortoise food & fish food with a minimal price there👍🏻#WhatToDoInIPOH #IPOHmari
MoreThe place currently not in taken care condition.. Still if u may come. Please support by tomato to feed the turtles. So pity..
MoreIt is quite run down and less maintenance, should do better to make make this place glow again.
MoreAn old Buddhist /Taoist temple. Serene and calming. Very scenic and great place to visit. Feed the turtles as they too add so much character to the place.
MoreQuiet and amazing temple within the mountains and caves. Is worth a visit if your like cave and nature adventures
MoreIts a shame that the temple that was famous once upon a time ago is at its current state. Last visit to the place, found that there is no activity in the temple other than the caves where an old lady acts as a guardian to sell worship materials. In general, the whole place is run down and not being maintained properly. Not sure what the reasons are for its current state but do hope that the management or someone will raise these issues to the relevant parties.
MoreA world of another. The backyard of this temple looked surreal. With the limestone cliffs and old temple structures. There are also tortoises that you can buy some food to feed them. Elderly beggars crowd around the entrance. I did make a donation to them which caused a bit of commotion. But lets do our part to help them. Usually you will spend 20 to 30 minutes in this temple. If you have time to spare, there is one more temple just beside it.
MoreChinese temple in the cave. Theres a mystery Temple hidden in behind the main temple. Access only via the main temple.it look like it has been locked away for many years. Wait the first sun light touch the roof of the temple for great photo
MorePlaces is clean. Worth visit if you like nature. Admission is free
The place isnt maintained too well, but its FOC for people to visit. You can no longer bring your own fish food or kangkung to feed the fish and tortoise. You may however purchase the fish food and cut tomatoes (for tortoisefrom the temple, inside the cave. Its a nice place to bring the kids and its not as crowded as other caves in Ipoh.
MoreThis place still the same..like never change. The tortoise feeding still as good. My kids had a great time feeding the tortoises.... Worth visiting if like feeding animals.. however other than feeding the tortoise there is practically nothing much to be done..
MoreInteresting place to explore. Tends to not get very busy, is a nice place to feed the fish and turtles, explore the gardens and cave. Temple staff are friendly and welcoming, even for an active religious site. Has bathrooms but they are a bit grim. Lots of parking outside but no longer able to eat here. Worth an hour to visit and explore.
MoreCould be better maintained. It has incredible potential to be an even more appealing tourist attraction than it is today.
MoreI hadnt explore right into the heart of this temple. My family expresses the magnificent view they saw after walking through a manmade tunnel carved out from the limestone rock. It was like going to a secret hidden space totally. You cant view it from entrance.I regretted much for not doing more exploring after I saw pictures taken from my family. As I walked through the small bonsai rocky landscape small pond, and look at this temple, I recalled seeing similar structure, old temples carved in rocks in China.I didnt see any donation boxes, but if you do, please donate and keep clean.
MoreDefinitely a must to come, especially for avid photographers 😍No entrance tickets needed. Dress decently and enjoy the view!
MoreGood, but not definitely must go place anymore, nothing to see.
Inside got a turtle pond and a “wonderland cave”, free parking and can park at roadside.
MoreOver 100 year old temple, walk through the cave you will find a temple there, full of mystery.
MoreLove the peaceful scenery around here. There is a turtle garden inside. The entrance is just amazing. You have to go through the cave entrance then you will see the turtle garden there. Any visitor who wish to come here, please don’t throw any rubbish around and keep clean. Do donate for their maintenance purpose. Should keep these place intact. Do visit and donate guys!
MoreThis temple is surely an underrated gem in Ipoh with lack of support by local government. The highlights of this temple are the fish lake, limstone hills and the huge pagoda hidden further inside (after surpassing the cave). There are also hundred-aged turtles to appreciate. If well maintenaned, more tourists come to visit the beauty of Ipoh. Entrance is free.Instagram: theroytravels
MoreLots to see and discover, definitely a worthwhile temple to visit
Dropped by before heading to nearby pomelo stalls. Nothing special just another cave for some worship. The old building at the back was very much like old hong Kong kungfu movies scene. Pay a visit even if you are not Buddhist for the building structure, if you are into such.
MoreVery beautiful and peaceful place. Very nice and friendly crew.
✨The temple is really a nice place to visit but sadly it’s not well maintained ☹️ but it’s a free entrance, it is welcome to leave a donation.✨Red Pagoda at the back of the Sam poh tong temple. I’m really curious as to why they locked the pagoda and seems to be abandoned ☹️☹️✨lots of Tortoise and Turtles 🐢✨✨✨✨❤️❤️ but i feel pity as it seems to be unsanitary. Feed em pity Turtlesss ..
MoreGood place to see. But some locations didnt maintain properly...
One of the first & oldest cave in Ipoh. Very picturesque garden in front with a tortoise pond behind the temple. A good location for photo spots with a very beautiful orange coloured abandon building behind the temple. Looks like the current pandemic has affected this 3 Treasure Cave {Sam Poh Tong}. Do come by to visit.
MoreA very popular tourist hotspot for locals and foreigners. For those who love to explore caves in its natural form or view paintings on cave walls. And for Buddhist and Taoist devotees who wish to offer prayers. Beautiful garden settings and landscaping pieces for admirers. Fish ponds and turtle ponds for animal lovers. Never a dull moment if you are in the above interest groupings. Theres even a vegetarian restaurant within the compound. Dont miss passing through a tunnel which opens into a mesmerising interior surrounded by flora and fauna. A tranquil place far away from it all.Sam Poh Tong Caves also provide ancestral resting place with tablets and urns for cremation ashes. A crowded and very busy place during Cheng Meng day.
MoreSam Poh Tong Temple is a very old temple built around a cave. The speciality about this place is that there is another temple inside the cave. The temple would be so beautiful behind a greenery landscape and under a sun light from the top of the cave. Inside the cave, you can op to feed the tortoises as well by buying them from the temple. You can also buy some fish food to feed the fishes in front of the temple.
MoreIf youre visiting Ipoh, Perak. Dont miss out dropping by this ancient temple which is about 15-20 minutes of driving from the city centre. This temple is perfect for tourist as theres plenty of photography opportunity within the premises. After spending time outdoor in the Zen-like garden, you can walk-in around the limestone temple indoors to cool yourself and treat yourself to a spectacular temple view once youve exited the end of cave.Theres also a pond full of tortoises which you can feed with fruits/veggies bought at the temple entrance for a small fee. All charges will be used to improve the infrastructure & maintenance for the temple.Note: Be vary when entering & exiting the temple as there are beggars asking for money. You can however, donate but the rest will swamp at you like a leech once they saw you giving out money. Just politely ignore & walk pass them will do as they have no rights to be there at the temple. Ive given out RM1 to each beggar since I felt pity as they squatting out in a hot sunny afternoon.
MoreCome early, as it closes early. My girlfriend and I managed to sneak in just before the gates closed, but theyve already roped off the stairs going up the hill. The temple within the cave is nice, but the other temple caves are more interesting. The oriental garden outside with its many rock formations is a good way to spend some time to have a break from your cave exploring.
MoreBeautiful temple in limestone cave/hill. Very pleasant atmosphere during mornings.great landscape of gardens. Must visit in Ipoh
MoreAmazing experience to go there. We meet a woman inside the temple who offered to me and my bf a homemade red tea she made from a fruit. Also she let as pick some blue pea flowers and their seeds to bring back home. So kind and lovely. The temple is beautiful whit incense spiral and so much more to see
MoreFree entry. Operation hours is 9 am until 4.30 pm I think, but some parts may close even earlier. Great place to take pictures. You can go inside the temple to see turtles, I didnt get to go to the other side because I was late because that section closes at 3pm.
MoreThe Sam Poh Tong Temple is the most famous of three temples that stand adjacent to each other. Each of the temples have their own characteristic and uniqueness, so all are worth a visit. However the Sam Poh Tong Temple has a hidden tortoise sanctuary inside it. As you enter the temple which is nested inside a cave, you go further inside and it leads out to an opening on the other end. It opens up to a beautiful garden with a fountain and a temple with the tortoise sanctuary just beside it. One can feed them with tomatoes if interested.
MoreIt is at the foot of limestone hill. Scenic view. Walk thru the cave which will lead you to a tortoise pond and a beautiful temple
MoreGreat temple. Very beautiful and peaceful inside where there is the main temple. Its too bad you cant go inside. Also fun to feed the turtles and fish for the kids. Although the turtles dont look to have the best environment for how many there are.
MoreNice place that needs a bit of maintenance. Small place so you dont need much time here. The sign out the front says it closes at 3pm but we were politely told to leave at 2:10. Not even 5 min later, the lady running the place was on her push bike and on her way!I forgot what the opening time was so unfortunately cannot edit this listing.
MoreIve been living in ipoh for almost 27 years but only recently i got a chance to explore this temple with my friends. A beautiful temple with gorgeous pond and garden. You can walk around the garden and admiring the temple design.
