Salvatore's Tomato Pies - Pizza restaurant in Madison, United States
We loved our waitress lily! Amazing outdoor seating, amazing food and amazing staff!
Great food and Great staff. One of the few places I go that everyone behind the counter is always friendly and competent. Highly recommend. We always get sausage, mushroom and goat cheese. Perfect every time.
Really high quality but can be difficult to get in at times. Fig and bacon pizza was excellent. One gripe is that they have resy listed in Google but it doesnt appear to currently actually accept reservations.
Ive been to three of their stores. Every one is uniquely different with great, very personable serviceEnjoy
I love the decorations and vibe of this place. They also have excellent water. 10/10 would recommend this absolutely exquisite water. And when I say exquisite I mean it. I sat down and was served a mere glass of water. I didn’t think much till I took a sip and my mouth exploded. It was pure bliss. I was practically ascending to the heavens with each sip. I have NEVER in my life had such great water. Plus the food is absolutely lovely.
I love their pizza but the Johnson street location is not up to par with Livingston
Amazing pizza and ingrediants , This is my new favorite pizza spot, Ive been there several times in the last 2 weeks and its been great everytime. Pepperoni , sausage and roasted garlic seems to be my go to for now.
Couldn’t tell where the place was so drove around the block and late to pick up order, had to take stairs to get to the place and not ADA compliant. The shrimp on the poboy looked like it was deep fried in the picture on there website but was not. Tomatoes limp. Not worth $10. No sides. Thinking I won’t go back.
The food was fantastic. The cheese on the pizza was sooo fresh. The dining room felt a little like an after thought and the bright light from the front counter really distracted from the low-light ambiance that was in the dining room.
Can’t beat $12 one topping pies on Tuesdays! We literally get this 3-4x a month. Love their bacon, fresh jalapeño, Gorgonzola, pepperoni, or fig as the topping
Fantastic as always... perfectly crisp and charred crust, great cheese and sauce, all around amazing flavor. Easily our favorite pizza in Wisconsin.
I was visiting relatives and decided to treat everyone to Salvatore’s. This place came so highly reviewed, I thought we had to try it. We ordered around 6:30 and the wait to pick up was 50 minutes. Super long, but I thought it surely would be worth the wait.We arrived at scheduled pickup time and called up for curbside. We were told “I’ll grab your order and be right out.” 15 minutes later, I decided to go in just to see if I could grab it myself and head out since we had hungry family members waiting. Someone saw me and checked on the order and told me they’re running behind, but it would be about 5-10 more minutes and he would bring it to our car. Another 15 minutes later, my boyfriend heads back in to see what the deal is. He sees our 2 pizzas just sitting on the counter...getting cold. They finally give him our 3rd pizza and we leave after 40 minutes of waiting. When we get back to our place, which is not even 10 minutes away, the pizza was cold. I paid $70 for a 16 inch and 2 10inch pizzas. I mean if you’re going to charge those kinds of premium prices for pizza, then the least you can do is keep the pizza warm for carry out customers, whom you don’t seem to prioritize at all. I should not have to microwave fresh pizza after a <10 minute drive. Really disappointed and frustrated by that entire experience.
As a first time customer, my wife and i came to Madison on a mini stay cation. Staying at a local hotel downtown, Sals came recommended by numerous people at the hotel. So going off that we gave Sals a try. Only a block downt the street, we ordered our order at 630p. The time of arrival was noted to be around 730pm. We were ok with the wait time knowing how recommended this place was. We did not get our order till an hour after our suggested arrival. AN HOUR!!. Our food was cold. Both pizza and appetizer. I do hope that this place gets better communication or maybe more help if this place wants to keep their reputation in tact. PS im sure the food does taste better when its fresh and not been sitting under a heat lamp for some time.
This is the only place in Madison that I choose to order from if I have a craving for a pizza-like thing (these are definitely tomato pies, and some dont even have tomato sauce). Theyre are spectacular hipster creations that I couldnt even dream of. Who thinks of putting 4 different mushrooms on a pizza? The ingredients are to die for and they make even a basic creation mouth-watering. They are fantastic with allergies/diet restrictions and I always feel comfortable ordering here. Theyre a little expensive, so I wont order this for a party, but I will definitely order a whole pie for myself.
Truly, the best pizza in Madison. I know theres a lot of choices here, but Sals nails it every time, their flavors are always bold and surprising, and it never comes out less than perfect. Always opt for the smaller pizzas and get more of them, you wont regret it.
Our Thanksgiving dinner by Salvatore’s was beyond reproach and more; my husband always hopes for quality ingredients creatively prepared, large portions and a fair price. We used a digital thermometer by ChefAlarm with a cable that extended outside of the oven so we never had to open the oven door, and along with the instructions that came with the dinner, the turkey and sides emerged perfectly; nothing over salted or over sweetened; smoked turkey was new for us and we are smitten; my husband does not even like white meat turkey but the skin was crackling and underneath that skin all was full of flavor devoid of dryness. That we received such tremendous value, in addition to the great food and portion sizes, was also something to be thankful for. (do I even need to mention how great the pizza is?)
Wonderful pizza as always, but tonight I placed my order for 7:45 and did not receive my pizza until 8:15. I fully understand that things happen, mistakes are made, we are all human. However, due to the wait I expected a partial refund, free breadsticks or at least a "hey dude sorry about that". Instead I got basically ignored and a bit of attitude.
Call it in, Wait 30 to 1:00 and pick up your slices of heaven.Great pizza, good sides.Carryout ONLY for now, but really, anywhere you are eating GREAT pizza is the place you WANT to be.Salvatores does not disappoint. At all.
The best pizza in Madison. The vegetarian is so good, try it even if you dont like beets normally. I tried the gluten free crust for the first time recently (eating with a friend who is gluten freeand it was quite good, though I prefer the gluten if youre able to eat it.
Sals is great. It is our favorite pizza place in Madison. My only complaint is that their downtown location has basically no space for dine in. I think it is probably 30 people max. They do have a great thing arranged with the coffee shop next door. You can go get your drinks at the coffee shop, sit down in their large seating areas, and Sals will bring the pizza over when it is done. Overall - Great pizza, a little bit more expensive, but worth it for the quality and to be able to support a local business.
Some of the best pizza ive had in a while! While covid is going on they had outside seating which was way more then the 6feet apart which was nice, made it feel more open and personal! The staff were extremely pleasant and nice! And my god the pizza! The selection of ingredients was immense and me and my significant other destroyed our 16” pizza!I totally recommend adding goat cheese on top of yours!
Ordered a ricotta, pepperoni, and green olive tomato pie for delivery (serviced by Dark Horse). Arrived without sauce. Mistakes happen. Called the restaurant and they sent me another. The new pizza arrived with the smallest amount of sauce possible (see the photos - sauce is served on top). Disappointed.
Always trying new tap beers. It can get a little cramped waiting for a carry out pizza. It is worth the effort. Best to call for pickup. Seating outside in the warmer weather. Did I mention that the pizza is great? !
Sals is so good. I didn’t expect the pizza to be as good as it Was. Staff was very friendly and informed us that we could get one pizza with two separate special pizzas on it (1/2 one type 1/2 the other). The fig pizza was very unique and very very good and will leave you satisfied. Our appetizer was fantastic too definitely recommend that as it was a perfect spice. What a fantastic pizza shop!
Sal’s has our favorite pizza in Wisconsin. The crust hits just right, the pie isn’t swimming in sauce, and the cheese stays on pizza. Toppings are delicious and it’s nice to buy local ingredients. The beer is nice, and the prices are reasonable. My main problem is the size of the restaurant, it’s a bit small and the waiting area is almost nonexistent. So, it’s mostly a spot in the summer for us when we can sit outside.
I absolutely love the pizza at Salvatores Tomato Pies, so my husband and I used their catering services for our wedding reception meal! The pizza, appetizers, and salad were incredible, as you would expect from Sals! However, communication with the catering manager was incredibly, incredibly difficult. Im talking hundreds of emails to nail down basic details. Nearly every communication I sent required multiple follow ups due to slow/no response. It definitely was one of the more stressful parts of planning our wedding. Again, the food was really good, but I would recommend discussing communication with them before booking them for catering services.
One of my favorite pizza spots! They make some very good pizzas here and the menu changes fairly often, so there is always something exciting to try. A good selection of beer and a nice outdoor patio to enjoy!
OMG this crust! Crispy, chewy, and not greasy at all! To die for. We got the one with roasted garlic, pepperoni, tomato and added cremini mushrooms (+$3). I dream about this pizza... Its so perfect! The regular seasonal salad with balsamic vinaigrette is refreshing and perfect to pair with the pizzas.
Delicious pizza thats not too expensive! The outside seating isnt too crowded so on a summer afternoon its awesome. Their local beer selection is great, with an amazing Madison-based rose cider that I tried.
Im usually not one for unique pizzas or ones out of the norm, but Salvatores took me by surprise. My partner and I split a large, and on my half I got pepperoni, roasted garlic, basil, hot peppers, and ricotta cheese. It was fantastic. The crust is also amazing - they flip it right in front of you. A nice small bar area to get a beer while you wait too. Overall great quaint local pizza place. Will definitely go again!
Had an amazing dinner here with some friends leaving town. The wait for a table was worth it, based on the fantastic food alone. I had a Greek style pizza, just absolutely delicious. Wonderful ingredients and really friendly staff. Cant recommend enough!
This spot has some really awesome pizza pie! I recommend picking up yours and bringing it home, or elsewhere, to enjoy it, as the interior is small, and can be very noisy. I guess some people like that, Im not one of those. Especially for those who like a thin and crisp crust, you wont be disappointed with the creativity and craftsmanship that goes into each and every pie they pull out of the oven. They also have a consistently good selection of regional craft beers.
First time Ive been disappointed. I dont live in Madison so am rarely around when Sals is open. Thought Id get something when I happened to be close by after a meeting.I ordered the Fish and Carne Asada tacos to go. In the past I feel there was more filling in the tacos. I took a bite of each as soon as I got in my car. Both were dry with little filling. Beef was dry. A sprinkle of cheese. Definitely not worth the $12 each/$24 total for only two tacos per order. While I may have pizza again there, I will avoid the tacos. :(
Definitely a must try place when you are in Madison.Salvatores makes "New Jersey style pizza" aka "tomato pies". Its very similar to NYC pizza, and in fact I am not sure of the difference. I love Brooklyn pizza so this style is a hit for me.What sets Salvatores apart is they source all of their ingredients locally and they shape their menu around it. The difference is some unique menu items and pizza toppings, and very fresh tasting pizza.Im a pizza purist and typically just get pepperoni and sausage, which is a "Fat Uncle Tony" without the bacon. I also usually get the Bacon & Cheese Bread, which is exactly what youd think and as good as you hope. There are two locations, Madison and Sun Prairie, and the menus are different and I am not sure why. I am often confused when I go from one to the other.Madison location has a very small dining room, limited parking, and is usually packed. Sun Prairie location is a little bigger and has never been packed when I visited.
Absolutely fantastic! Some if the best pies money can buy . Cool hole in the wall type atmosphere with a good amount of seating. Great house made old fashionds. Try the Woodsman if you like mushrooms. My new favorite pizza place in Madison. Super nice staff.
Our favorite pizza place when visiting Madison.Fresh ingredients, friendly staff, and nice beer selection.
My husband and I both agree that this is the best pizza in Madison. They have some very delicious, unique pizza options, but their regular tomato pie should definitely get some attention too! The Tuesday date night deal is always a good idea. The restaurant is often very busy so dont be surprised if theres a bit of a wait when you get there. Its definitely worth the wait though!
What is there not to love about amazingly fresh pizza ingredients, with unique menu and pizza options, along with a fantastic wait staff in an inviting atmosphere with plenty of outside dining in Madison. If you have a bucket list of restaurants that you want to try, this has to be one of them. If youre fortunate enough to live nearby, Im completely envious. I love Salvatores. 🙌
Our first time to this location. We have been to the Sun Prairie location several times. Both are fantastic. Best pizza we have found since moving from the East coast. A sweet tomato sauce, chewy neapolitan crust, fresh ingredients. Great Pie.
The bacon cheese bread appetizer is amazing. Their build your own pies are a great deal with the happy hour special. Some of the best pizza Ive ever had.
Hands down my favorite pizza place in Madison. Very fresh ingredients, innovative pizza flavors (fig and bacon is my favorite), and a good atmosphere. Its a bit pricey, so I usually go for the date night special on Tuesdays that includes a salad, 12" pie, dessert and a bottle of wine for $40. It sounds expensive because it is, but the quality:price ratio is on point. Also worth mentioning, you will experience fantastic service 100% time from the friendly and attentive staff. As for cons, there is usually a pretty long wait and the indoor seating area is fairly noisy due to how tight of a space it is. On the whole though, you will not be disappointed. This place has 5 stars for a reason.
Tasty fire baked pizza... at times with unusual but great combination of ingredients. While it might be more $ than the run of the mill, it makes up for it in freshness, fantastic crust - cause whats a pizza without the best crust??! a salad! They have other worthy items in the menu, but pizza is the best. Decent selection of wine and beer to pair with. Casual atmosphere. Bit of a ventilation issue when there is something burning in the kitchen, but luckily they have outdoor seating during summer/early fall. Get out there, take a bite!
Sals is great. Maybe the best pizza in Madison overall, but definitely the best pizza of its style in Madison. Sals is a chewy hand tossed crust with a fired stone oven. The sauce is good and the toppings are all delicious. The Forza pizza is our favorite as its the perfect balance of meat, cheese, and simplicity. A little advertised fact is that they actually have some really good tacos as well as pizza so its an easy double date to get a few tacos as a starter and then split a pizza. They have several beers on tap and usually have at least 2-3 that are good and most are local breweries or at least locally popular. The service is nothing special but the front desk staff are usually friendly and quick to help. Take out is also a great option and definitely one that we take advantage of frequently. The place is small with maybe half a dozen tables for 2-6 and about the same outdoor seating in nice weather. Depending on how busy they are the table waits can be anywhere from 20min to 1.5 hrs so we always call ahead to get at least a feel for the wait time. Expect dinner to be in the 30-60 min range depending on how busy they are. Take out times are usually 20-45 min wait.Overall awesome food and a great place.
Amazing pizza! One if the great pizza places Ive tried in the Madison area. Good service, too! The Madison location is a little cramped inside if you go during peak hours and parking can be a bit of an issue, but its worth it! Sooooooo yummmmm!
Salvatores is a pillar of the Madison pizza circuit slinging some top notch New Jersey/Trenton-style pies. Theres usually a wait, but its always worth it.
Dining was available outside or inside, however, we ordered ours as carryout. Enjoyed the fresh salad, tacos, and pizza. I couldnt resist buying a shirt either.
Amazing food, made with quality ingredients. Friendly staff, great beer selection, and not so big in size that it feels corporate. Very down to earth vibe, with good music playing all the time, of a wide variety.
Great pizzas, great beer and wine choices but pretty pricey. They charge extra for every topping and pizzas themselves are pretty expensive but very delicious and great topping choices. Staff is friendly!
Some of the best pizza in Madison with quality ingredients and great beer selection. The dough is especially good, however the flavour complexity left something to be desired.
Dag yo, I never expected such delicious pizza from Madison Wisconsin. Im from Chicago so the bar is pretty high, but these guys take the (pizzapie. Reminds me a lot of mellow mushroom restaurant in the crust and topping quality and flavors. Will be back, for sure!
