Saltwater Farm Vineyard - Vineyard in New London, United States
I would like to tell you this vineyard is a beautiful, well-kept secret, but thatd be a lie. There was a ton of people here, but I completely understand why. The grounds and buildings are beautiful. The building itself is an old airplane hangar that was repurposed. There is still an old runway on the grounds that planes land on occasionally according to the owner, who was incredibly approachable, down to earth, and passionate about the vineyard. On the day I visited, they not only had wine, but the had a pop up raw bar, pizza truck, beer tastings, and a band. This place is hands down the best vineyard Ive been to. My only advice... bring a chair.
Visited the vineyard last week , all the way from Glasgow , Scotland. Absolutely stunning venue and the wine was great too. Even saw a first look , something we dont have here . Weather and views amazing 🍷
Beautiful venue! Great service and terrific staff.
I took my family there we had a great timeHanging out enjoying the views and the property ,Maybe payed a little more than I expected for mediocre wine, but the place had a nice vibe
I had a fantastic experience here. Beautiful view and the wine was pretty good as well.
Beautiful facility, good wines
Nice place for weddings, great food and service, amazing sunset, really good place for pictures, only think Im giving them 4 stars its because drinks werent that good, same for wine, not all the wine were good.
7.23.22 Beautiful indoor and outdoor facility thats used for weddings so check before you head out to make sure theyre open on Saturdays. The wine is great and will run you at least $30-$40 per bottle. Lots of indoor seating and outside their Adirondack chairs can be found in the sun or shade.
Nice venue for a function, comfortable surroundings, ample parking, wonderful staff.
Beautiful spot to be with friends! Welcoming with kids also
One of the worst food ever at a venueI have ever eaten so cold the side of fries were as hard as a rock the main course was gross. The view was very nice and set up was nice but food horrible all of it and alcohol not much to choose from. It was a wedding venueAnd parking man was rude and arrogant to me and I was a wedding guest
Beautiful venue from inside to the outdoor seating. It was pretty cool that they had a few local brews too. Wine seemed good.
I have photographed quite a few weddings at Saltwater Farm Vineyard and I always have a great time creating images here. First off its just such a unique mix of old and new architecture both inside and out. Second they have great service and wonderful food. Third it just has an amazing exterior to work with for ceremonies, portraits and more.Saltwater Farm is worth the drive for me from Cape Cod to photograph awesome weddings with my LoveDays Photography team.
Nice place. The acoustics in the cavernous building are not great. The live music can be piercing. Wine is decent. You can bring in your own snacks which is nice. There is also as pizza truck. Smart bet to being your own bottled water, buy as bottle of wine and enjoy the afternoon.
Nice venue but awful wine. The Sauvignon Blanc was extrememy watery. They are normally light but this was very disappointing. No wonder you cant do a tasting before the you have to purchase a glass.
Wine is delicious. Staff very helpful in explaining their wines. Beautiful grounds
Venue and location is awesome! Wines were pretty watery and overall not the best taste (tried 3). At $28-30 a bottle I expected better. Tasted no better (1 bottle was worsethan the average $8-10 bottle at any liquor store.
Saltwater Farm Vineyard is absolutely beautiful. Ive been here twice now, and both times a wedding rehearsal has been in the works. The natural beauty of the vines and the gorgeous renovated hangar make it the perfect location for a wedding! Because of how pretty Saltwater is, it is a busy place. Last visit they actually had someone directing traffic so everyone could find a spot. Likely that was a result of wedding guests though. The staff here are awesome to talk to and make you feel like they are excited that youre there. In addition to indoor and outdoor patio seating upstairs and down, there is plenty of grassy area with park benches. On top of the reds, whites and rose`s, they also have a healthy selection of craft beers and ciders, and I also noticed on their site that they have a nonalcoholic beer. Our friends purchased a very yummy blueberry cider! Although we brought our own food, you can also purchase an assortment of cheese, crackers and charcuterie. They offer plastic cups free of purchase, or you can pay $3 to keep your logod stemless or stemmed glass. The great selection of drinks and the beautiful setting make this winery a must see!
Venue was nice but the man directing cars was very rude and nasty. Made comments that did not need to be made to paying guests. Just be ready to be talked down to by him. Also if you like crowded overbooked venues then I recommend this place.
Beautiful grounds , great staff , good wine ! My favorite vineyard in Ct. Owners and staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Always a vibe whenever Im there with friends, family and clients .
Great first experience, friendly staff beautiful grounds and tasty wines. The CabRose was fantastic.
Welcoming and informative staff. Great relaxing view of vinyarda from the upper deck. Wines we tried were mild, but tasty. Overall great experience!
Went to a wedding here, very nice venue, food and service quite good. Wine for CT not bad at all.Real pleasant surprise.
Great place and fantastic wines, but the parking lot attendant is by far the most rude person I have ever encountered. The owners should rethink having this guy be the first person you meet when patronizing their business.
Let me start by saying the DRIVE to this place was beautiful! Lots of landscaping details and beautiful arrangements!Plenty of parking, and short walk to the Vineyard entrance. The staff that helped us upon entry where super helpful and explained the covid regulation standards to us, no taste testing but glasses and bottles by order! They offer lots of styles of cheeses, some absolutely delicious crackers (try the Mixed Goat cheese and Maple crumble crackers😍)Their wine options are brilliant and really good for fall, warm and sweet, but not sugary and harsh. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, but i HIGHLY recommended brining your own blankets, maybe even pillows, and definitely bring a cheese board if youre gonna go that route! They also provide a food truck on the weekends along with live music! It gets busy quick so GO EARLY!Bathrooms where clean and lots of stalls for high occupancy moments!Entire building and outdoor areas where very clean and honestly bug free! We came on a warm day where you might definitely expect to see bugs and yellow jackets or at least bees, and there was none. It made it very pleasant that they maintain the cleanliness of the patios so bug and such do not hover.Only cost $104 for 2 bottles of wine and 4 cheeses! Cheaper than the grocery store for the high quality cheese and wine. Will DEFINITELY be back!
Amazing atmosphere and excellent wine selection. Gregory was helping us the entire time and was fantastic, and even gave us a discount because we were getting married the next day! They really make you feel like part of the family here. Couldnt recommend this place enough!
Great wine and beautiful scenery. Staff was helpful and provided great service.
My daughters wedding reception was at Saltwater Farms back in 2010. We were the second people to have a reception there and possibly the first to book it--almost two years ahead, in 2008. You booked a "quonset hut?" Hardly! It was the perfect place to celebrate as well as to explore this gorgeous new vineyard.Saltwater Farms did not disappoint. The owners were wonderful to work with, the setting was lovely, leaving everyone to ask how we found such a beautiful spot that was previously unknown by many a decade ago. There wasnt a thing that we would have changed about the wedding reception. The new bride and groom called it, "perfect," with Mystic Market catering the dinner, which included fresh Stonington scallops and Saltwater Farm wine that flowed for all. Please, look at the Saltwater Farms wedding venue. It will not disappoint and will prove to be an utterly perfect place for a reception. Theres not a thing we would have changed!
It is so nice, just remember to carry a blanket or small chair with you.
Wine is good and there is a large outdoor area to socially distance while still being able to get out of the house.
Plenty of room and seating outdoors to enjoy a glass of wine on a nice day. Dog friendly too so we had our 2 pups with us.
Saltwater farm was an outstanding vineyard. It seemed like a great place for a wedding, or a bridal party as well! Be sure to try their Runway White or their Estate Chardonnay. I would stay away from the rosés as they are not what you would consider to be a strong rosé. If you are a fan of true rosé, you may not enjoy them. I think the hidden gem for this vineyard is getting a spot of the upstairs deck; not only is it in the shade, but you are also next to where they do live music, as well as near the upstairs bar where most people DO NOT purchase their wine. All in all, a strong vineyard with a nice little hidden area that is in full view, but few people make use of.
Service and the wines were excellent.
It is beatiful. Nice place to enjoy some wine. They have cheese and crackers to but so thats nice. You can walk the grounds which are very nice. Near the ocean. They have a runway which if your friends and family you can land your plane there. How cool is that
Beautiful peaceful vineyard. You can bring your own snack.
Beautiful scenery family oriented
Lovely place to have a picnic and relax. The wine is nice, the views are lovely! Outside food is welcomed, but no outside alcohol. Love this place! We see weddings get set up there all the time and its just beautiful! All of the flowers that Brambles & Bittersweet floral company brought in this past weekend were just stunning! Love a lot about this place! Local wine, local owners, local vendors to Mystic, CT. Its all just dreamy! We keep coming back for more and we are never disappointed!
Beautiful location with excellent wines. We have been back several times and enjoy our experience every time. There’s a variety of places you can sit outside and enjoy your wine. The only downside is on Saturdays they close at 3 for events.
We have loved Chardonnays from SWF since our first taste in 2011. The terroir lends a slight briny flavor to the grapes; their Chardonnay is usually unoaked. It is wonderful with seafood! The winery building was once a hangar and the curved wood ceiling looks like the inside of a wine barrel. Tastings are available; they also have cheese and crackers available for purchase now.Their wines are not widely available, and the winery is beautiful, so it is worth your while to visit. We dont make it to CT very often, but when we are in the area, we make a point to stop in and buy some bottles to put in our checked luggage.
We enjoyed our visit and were impressed by the winery and learning its history from our server. The wine was good. Its a definite stop if youre interested in the wine trail through the South coast of New England.
Visited for the first time today, and had an exceptional experience. Atmosphere was excellent, staff was knowledgeable and very willing to share information about the wines and the history to make our experience a memorable one. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every wine and we will definitely be back!
The winery was beautiful!!! Loved that it was a hanger and is still an active airport. The wine was very good. We did a wine tasting and we bought a delicious bottle of red. The reason for the 2 stars is because the bartender that was running the tasting wasn’t very friendly, but besides that I dropped my bag containing the bottle I purchased. I was so upset as I was looking forward to opening that bottle up and enjoying it with my husband. When I explained to the girl in the front that although it was my fault, I just purchased the bottle in hopes she would replace it. Instead her response was “I was trying to see if I had an open bottle but I don’t.” That, in my opinion was poor customer service and if it were me I would’ve replaced that bottle. I left there quite disappointed and although it was very pretty not sure I will go back now.
The wines were terrible, service left much to be desired but the best... the owner sitting in the parking lot controlling how you park. I left a bit of extra space between my car and the next one to avoid dings on my exotic sports car, he made a big deal out of it, so much so that I just moved it in another spot, squeezed between other cars hoping not to return to a damaged car... yes, I got back to what will be a very expensive ding/scratch. I am LIVID. This was one very expensive wine tasting... That one foot of extra space will probably cost me a grand. Thank you!UPDATE.... I spoke with Ms. Connery, the owner... They have no cameras, she implied that I lied, she informed me that “Robbie” the guy in parking lot denied this ever happening or that I even spoke with him. Luckily this happened in front of 8 other people in my car club. She of course never followed up. Terrible business in EVERY way. AVOID these clowns.
Horrible!!!!!! I literally just left and I am so disgusted. The server did not even tell us how much the tasting was going to be until we were done. The staff was rude and did not interact at all! They checked their cell phones and counted wine bottles. Another couple came in right after us and were barely greeted. The rest of the staff was setting up for a wedding. I hope they treat the bride and groom better than the public. I have been to several wineries and tours and this was by far the worst!
One of the best locations on the wine trail! Beautiful!
Great use of an old airfield (still operational), the wines here are great and is a good close getaway for a weekend picnoc
Beautiful winery right on the coast. Walk the grounds, sit in the Adirondack chairs, or go by the water. You can bring your own food and water. Wine selection is great!
My husband and I stopped in to pick up a gift for a friend. The grounds are gorgeous. It was a sunny day and we stood out on the balcony overlooking the vineyards for quite a while. It was breathtaking. We arent wine drinkers so we relied heavily on the girl at the counter to help us determine which wine to get. She explained the differences between them and helped us select a wine that would work. I was impressed with her knowledge.I was also impressed with the price of the wine. It was quite reasonable. And my friend loved it!
Had a wonderful day with my wife and sisters on the 30th of November. The building and grounds are amazing. I enjoyed the four selections available, but I preferred the "Golden Arc" Estate Chardonnay, Cabernet Rose and Cabernet Franc/Merlot Blend. The atmosphere is set by an informed and pleasant staff. We welcomed our new additions to our in-house bar, and look forward to restocking for family events. Definitely a recommendation!!!
Saltwater Farm Vineyard is a memorable spot for both events and a spontaneous picnic with friends. Visit for the wine, stay for the good company and breathtaking views. A truly special spot where I was lucky enough to have my wedding... If you havent been for a visit, be sure to check it out... you will be happy you did.
