Salto do Cabrito - National reserve in Ponta Delgada, Portugal
Stunning! And the temperature was amazing for a bath
Swimming at Cabrito was one of my favorite experiences of the Azores. Simple. Beautiful.
Dusty and bumpy road. Lots of people. And an old hydro-powerstation is making noise.Any overcrowded lido is more fun.Forget it. Though your guidebook may recommend it.
We did al little trip around Salto do Cabrito, nice waterfall and a real nice sightseeing. The sanitaire was in all those places we went real good and clean.Barbecues everywhere. Love it.
Definitely nice but short. We parked and then walked quite some time downhill (and sadly uphill on the way back 🤦🏻♀️👀theres a turn left where they say theres spring water and that was beautiful and then the actual waterfall is nice. Some people were in the water. We climbed the stairs to get a top view. Then we went in the forest but it didnt look like a real trail so we went back
Take a bath, go for a walk up to stairs and enjoy that amazing nature. You can park down the road (where google maps leadsor up and take 10mins walk down.
We werent really sure when we arrived what was happening with parking, so be sure to make that last left and drive WAY WAY WAY down the paved road to the actual parking lot for easier walking back to your vehicle. The waterfall itself was beautiful and if you are sturdy on your feet and not afraid of heights take the stairs up and look down
Beautiful waterfall!
We did the Salto do Cabrito hike that starts from the Termas das Caldeiras which was fairly moderate with the highlight of it being the waterfall. Very much worth that hike, the location is beautiful.
The road to the parking lot at the bottom is fine as of January 2022.As for this location, its rather mediocre in relation to most places on the island, unless you are interested in swimming or old hydroelectric buildings. There is a nice catwalk up above that brings you to some buildings but not much to see.
The road to the parking lot is in a bad condition, quite narrow and steep. But the waterfall and the hiking trail to the top of the waterfall is very nice and fun to walk.
Nothing special about this hike. Most of the hike to the waterfall is by huge metal pipeline. So many beautiful hikes on the island to discover.
Wonderful place to visit. The waterfalls are not big but its worth a stop.
The waterfall is nice, the walkway that leads above the waterfall was a great discovery. Not for the faint of heart, the heights were pretty scary
Its a waterfall, very beautiful, but also maaany tourists. Maybe consider visiting other waterfalls or only plan to go here for a few minutes at most.
Beautiful waterfall! There is a parking lot for the site, but the road down is very steep with hairpin turns. We opted to park further down the road and walk up the dirt road and down to the waterfall, which only took about 10 minutes. It’s a short distance but steep going up and down:
Yes you can swim here, its a bit cold (certainly not geothermal at allbut the little pool has a black sand bottom thats nice to walk on, and its not too deep either
Very nice waterfall to hang out. You can swim underneath is if the current is not to strong.Around the corner there a beautiful stream, also with the possibility to hang out and connect with nature
Nice waterfall, the walkway has a hidroeletric facility which produces a bit of noise, but worth it nonetheless.
Beautiful waterfall even during the dry summer season. You can bathe here or just enjoy the view. This is definitely not the best waterfall you can find on the island but worth the visit.Since it is quite near Ponta Delgada and easily accessible it can get quite crowded. The best time to visit it is early in the morning. The big flaw for me is that you hear the sound of hydro power plant near the waterfall. It is qute disturbing and you cant enjoy nature.Even though parking is very large, I advise you to park at the very top beacuse the access road is very narrow, steep and there is no space for 2 cars to pass by. If you want to avoid unnecessary risks with your rented car, just take a 5 minute walk istead.
🏊 Amazing waterfall place where you can swim.
When you arrive, you should drive all the way down, do not stop in front a white fenced building.(or you like climbing up a mountain and walking for 20 minutes more). There will be two signs, salto do Cabrito and another one, try both!
Strong waterfall with a nice lagoon with the possibility of swimming. Pleasant refreshment. ⛲
Beautiful waterfall! Nice for a refreshing swim!
Not a highlight but definitely worth a visit. You can visit a water stream and waterfall. Next to the waterfall you can hike upwards which provides some nice views. The path might be slippery.
Beautiful waterfall only short walk from the car park. You can also walk a very narrow path along the pipes of the hydroelectric power plant
Very nice waterfall. It is possible to go for a bath there as well.Dont miss the stairs going up the waterfall. You need to pass on the right side of the power building for that. Warning: the safety barriers along the stairs is not appropriate for younger kids.
We almost skipped this stop but Im glad we did not. The little trail that follows the creek was nestled right in the woods and was super cute. The waterfall is hidden around the left of the hydroplant (more on that laterand on a sunny day truly takes your breath away. To the left of the hydroplant, a stairway (not the best maintainedtakes you up to the top of the waterfall, allowing you to see the upper portion of the fall, a small holding pool, and the final plunge. The road to the site is steep and most people confuse the no parking sign for no driving (we fall in the most people categorybut you could definitely drive it. If you dont, its a great workout on the way back up.
Nice view of waterfalls. Be ready to go up and down walking before reaching the waterfalls. Good speed free WiFi.
once you reach the parking area next a hydro plant building, walk around the building to find it... we initially thought it was the hydro.. than we decided to walk down as we where not convinced and than we found it.. its amazing for swimming but expect many people... if you want to take a photo you need to use a small or big stopper for long exposure..
This was a beautiful stop today because it was raining. One tip is the sign at the top of a ginormous hill where everyone parked instead of driving down means no stopping! Wished I had driven down although I got a good workout!!
Nice waterfall. If going, you need to choose either going down a narrow, very steep single track concrete road to the official car park, or parking at the end of the dirt road before this steep track and walk it. We walked, but most do drive it. Glad we walked when I saw how steep it was.
The trail leads along a beautiful little gully to a waterfall. But, be careful, the access slopes are quite steep and you can need to stop several times during the journey. When you arrive to the waterfall, you can wading into the pool under the waterfall. It well worth searching this site out!!!
Oke for a fun trip but not as nice as expected.
Even though you can drive down to the waterfall, I do not recommend it because of the steep road. I was traveling with my parents and it was extremely difficult for them to walk to the waterfall. The waterfall was nice but in my opinion, if traveling with small children or elderly, I would skip this waterfall.
Its possible to drive all the way down to the waterfall, but the hill is very steep and the road is narrow, so I would not recomend it. Park by the white house and take the road to the left (there are signsto walk down to the waterfall. Once you have seen the waterfall, take the stairs on the right of the noisy "power plant" house for a nice hike up next to the river/stream leading to the waterfall. The hike goes next to the thick pipe line and leads you to the beautiful rain forrest above.
Neat place to explore but the track is short. You basically explore on your on whim.
Fantastic hike of 2h30, with waterfalls, bridges, old stairs, cows, super green... Its definitely worth it
A beautiful waterfall with a daunting walk along the old hydropower pipes to old generator building. At one point you are suspended high over the canyon with the river rushing below you.Just make sure your car can take steep hills, or park at the top by the white building and walk down.
A place of natural beauty. Nice spot for a little swim. The waterfall isnt huge but creates a natural pool with fresh water. For best photos you must visit in the middle of the day because of direct sunlight. The access isnt great. be careful with rental cars so you dont have troubles with damage. Its better to leave the car near the water tank on the road and walk your way through. the parking lot inst paved and its bumpy.
A power plant constantly makes a noise, but its a beautiful place. Leave your car before the big slope (near a white buildingand walk a couple minutes. Its worth seeing.
A hidden little area with a beautiful waterfall. The road down is steap and in a bit of rain not the most fun to drive on, but its worth the hill, there is small areas with streams you can walk into and then the waterfall.
It was an ok experience. If you are passing by to go to Lagoa do Fogo or the thermal pools, then yes sure, you can stop by and have a look. They are nice but its nothing outworldly, theres a small noisy hydroelectric plant next to the waterfall and theres concrete everywhere up until the waterfall. I didnt have time to go to other waterfalls but for what Ive heard and seen, they were definitely better (e.g. salto do prego). On the other hand it seems like it was a bit empty, but you can judge yourself from my picture. For parking you have to choices, you can go all the way down with the car through a paved road with a huge inclination (doubt my rentla Fiat Panda would have made itor you can park at the fork and walk down (if you trust more in your leg power than in your cars horse power). Beware, it is not a fun walk either.
Beautiful scenery! Probably made even more special because it started to rain (warm water!)To get here you need to go down a very steep hill with some dirt paths (and holesso make sure youve got a good car and be prepared for a few scrapes underneath if its a low car. Alternatively park your car at the top and walk down. You can go into the water but beware the rocks as they are slippery. There is a small area near the waterfall where you can swim too.
Really high waterfall!! I felt so little there. Put your bikini and go to swim.
Beautiful waterfall, but make sure to go by foot, the pathto the waterfall is really steep and only one car at a time is allowed for an extension of 500m . Otherwise if you have limited mobility make sure to hire tour services that will take you there.
We put the location by GPS and that was ( maybe notthe best idea. We had to walk a lot! But the nature was amazing, I felt I was in pure nature. But there also is closest way to the waterfall. I found that the way to the destination was more beautiful than the waterfall.
This is off a signposted turning from the EN5-2A on the way to and from Lake Fogo. The dirt track (partially pavedgoes straight initially up to a white building in a small clearing where cars can be parked for free. From there a branch of the road to the left goes steeply downhill and we didnt try this with our rental car due to a fallen tree but it should be fine - and this can be walked for about 10 minutes to get to the waterfall (but steep). See the photos. The waterfall is past a stream and dam and part of the power plant. There is a metal staircase on the side through the forest that seems to go up to the top of the waterfall. The waterfall itself is not that special but its a pleasant spot. The water felt a little too cold to jump into in October.
I recommend to take the "jungle trial" - starting from top and go down
Worth the trip. Be careful not to get lost if you chose any alternative route.
