Well-known tabernacle featuring the celebrated Mormon Tabernacle Choir & an organ with 11,623 pipes.
I have attended several moving events at the Tabernacle, all centered around music. The architecture is stunning. My favorite visit so far started with an invitation from two wonderful Missionary sisters. If you find yourself visiting Temple Square seek out Missionary sisters. They may have Time to join you at an event at the Tabernacle. The event that tops my list so far is the monthly 30 minute concert broadcast throughout the world preformed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The sisters were able to get very good seats so I could get fully engaged with the music. This is a very important building for the Members of the Church of Jesus Christ, the Latter Day Saints. Take a tour and find out why.
We heard a short organ concert as we walked in. It was wonderful since the acoustics of the building are exceptional! We were given a demonstration of the acoustics where we could hear a pin drop without the use of a microphone. Wow!
The Salt Lake City Tabernacle is a historical church site that has missionaries there to show you around the historical building.
Amazing. We saw the practice and it dawned on me that the choir is another instrument of the orchestra. The practice showed the human/humorous side of the conductor. It was an incredible experience watching them practice.
It was beautiful. Very historical! I experienced the organist s practice at noon during the week and attended the Mormons recorded service on Sunday morning at 9am. Doors open at 8am and close at 8:45am promptly. It was short compared to a Pentecostal service which I attend. It was more of a Mormon history lesson in between the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing. They were amazing! There was no preaching/teaching afterwards, which rather surprised me and disappointed me as I was looking forward to the service. The grounds where the church is on is very beautiful and has the original church building which is still open, can be visited/seen, & is used. Theres a lovely fountain and a few historical statues as well as many flower beds. Even though I am not a Mormon, I still felt God and was at a great peace being there. After service, and during the week, there are Mormon missionaries that give a campus tour. It is well worth every FREE penny of it. Unfortunately the historical main church building was under reconstruction to proof it from earthquakes and do updates. The huge conference building across the street is also available to visit. It has a gorgeous, marble statue of Christ as well as many paintings , murals, displays, and many nooks with comfortable couches and chairs. One nook has a video that can be played showing the history of the churches and how the Mormon faith began. Be prepared to walk though as it has 4 floors and the structure takes up the whole, "New York length" of a block! Be sure to visit the roof top gardens. It gives you a great view of the entire campus as well! Their history is absolutely stunning and amazing. It is definitely worth the day visit while in Salt Lake City! I was there from 8:30am to almost 6pm taking in everything. I got so lost in the environment & the atmosphere. Enjoy your visit
Beautiful place full of history. I can imagine the sacrifice that must have gone into building it so long ago.
Beautiful grounds, amazing organ in Tabernacle.Girls who are there on mission were c ery helpful and informative
The daily organ recitals alone are worth a trip to the Tabernacle. Incredible performances. Hopefully they start again soon and the restrictions come to an end. Such a beautiful and historic building.Update: the organ recitals are back, and it was a wonderful experience to be there today and be inspired such incredible talent.
Jumped on a tour which included the daily organ recital. Acoustics are awesome and the organist demonstrates this.
I went to an organ recital here. They have them daily! It was amazing to experience such a large organ in a room with such amazing acoustics.
Non-Mormons arent allowed in the temple (currently covered in scaffolding so outside view not greatso the noon organ recital (no choirhere is worth getting to see and hear
Amazing acoustics, but cant really hear the choir or the spoken word over the instruments. Easy to get to and a very welcoming place.
Really cool historic place to check out.Got to hear a bit of the organ.Would be amazing to check out a choir practice.
No need for tickets. There are sisters everywhere to help guide you and answer any questions. They offer tours as well. All free of charge. The Temple is currently closed until 2025. But the Tabernacle and Convention Center are open to the public, as well as Temple Square. The Tabernacle offers an organ recital at 12 PM. Doors open at 11:50 am. Very clean restrooms. Bring drinks because no food or drinks are available.
Love coming here to visit! Such a beautiful spirit. The missionaries are all wonderful and so fun to talk with. Wonderful to learn about the gospel and see all the changes happening around Temple Square.
We really enjoyed the music and history of the Mormon Battalion presented that night. Being there at Tabernacle made it all the better. Three of my ancestors served in The Mormon Battalion.
Wonderful, you don’t have to be a Mormon to visit this, it’s wonderful, and everyone is kind.
People here are very warming and welcoming. We have loved talking with the missionaries that explained us the history of this place and their confession.
Amazing hearing the organ played in this stunning building.
This place is a beautiful building and Im honored to have been able to be in such a holy place. You can sincerely feel the spirit here.
Definitely a great place to experience architecture and the message. I will have to come back due to the amount of construction around the building.
Vocal point concert was amazing. 😍 Also sang Neve gonna give you up.
Five stars? How about all the stars… we happened to show up in time for the noon organ recital. With just a handful of us there, It felt like a private concert on one of the world‘s great musical instruments. It literally brought tears to my eyes Look, no matter what your faith tradition or beliefs this is truly a wonder. Visit Temple Square, walk the tabernacle … amazing place… oh and the docents are friendly and knowledgeable. Say hello.
Absolutely Beautiful and the sound you can hear a pin drop
So beautiful. We went for the 2pm Sunday rehearsal. The talent of the player was an incredible thing to witness. My 12 yr old daughter loved it. Powerful musical experience.
Went to the organ recital as part of a bus tour. However, admission is free for anyone.Im dont normally listen to organ music, BUT this was special. This is the 12th largest pipe organ in the world. It was an excellent experience.
We fell asleep during the organ recital but what a gorgeous place. Excellent light show.
Gorgeous tabernacle. The staff were kind and gave us an excellent tour and history of this building! Thank you!
Beautiful historic structure that truly is a must-see. Tour guides who speak over 40 languages will gladly take you on a tour of Temple Square of which this Tabernacle is a part of. If you’re there on Thurs nights or Sun mornings, stop in to hear the Tabernacle Choir rehearse and perform weekly. You won’t regret it!
Havent met a church I didnt like. So peaceful.
Beautiful! Amazing architecture and acoustics. We were offered the Book of Mormon at each building but not pressured.
What an amazing structure, rich with heritage. It is hard to imagine how this building was constructed without all of the modern tools and machinery we have now. And the organ is truly magnificent!
Such a pretty place to visit. The sister missionaries are wonderful. Such a peaceful place. I cant wait for the temple to open in 2025!
I attended a 30 mins recitals here and it was one of the most zen experiences of my life.
Such a beautiful, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone was so nice and friendly giving us good background info on the Tabernacle. The acoustic demonstration was amazing! Great sounds!
The Suzuki Harps were practicing for a concert this afternoon. We were lucky to be able to hear the fantastic sound quality inside the Tabernacle
This was quite the experience. First, it isnt easy finding a parking spot close as you have to find parking along the street. We walked in through the gates and to our right was an info desk. We were going to ask a question but there are teams of "sisters" on missionary status that give free tours. Our two "sisters" were awesome, both being very knowledgeable about the buildings and origins. We saw the original church the settlers built. We saw the acoustically perfect church with the amazing organ pipes where the famed Tabernacle Choir practices. BTW, there are over 11,600 pipes in the organ. Also, every Mon - Fri @ noon, you can come watch and listen to the organ being played. If you come to Salt Lake City, this place needs to be on your must visit sites and be sure to ask how the acoustically perfect building was built. Amazing.
Really cool place to visit, with the architecture and history. Organ recital and choir rehearsals watching are amazing! Free tours are good but beware do a bit of evangelizing. Felt a bit like a timeshare pitch.
Imagine hearing Bachs Toccata and Fugue in D minor on them pipes while Slash cranks out a perfectly placed guitar riff. My face would melt right off. That didnt happen obviously but I think the Mormon Church would gain a lot more followers if it did. Just think of the tithe money. The place was fascinating though. Ive been told the acoustics were amazing. Unfortunately the only test we got was the organist warming up the pipes.
Amazing architecture. Going to do the virtual tour since inside had to be closed. Missionary guides were so helpful and informative
So much history with the Salt Lake Tabernacle which once hosted all the semi-annual general conference sessions. Also home of the Tabernacle Choir, formal known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Amazing place!!! Words alone cant possibly describe the experience. Please come and see for yourself—youll love every second! I went to the organ recital and the music and spirit it brought was nothing short of amazing! The acoustics of this place are superb (you can literally hear a pin drop from the other side of the room). I love being here and can all but guarantee you will too!
The acoustics are amazing! The choirs who preform here always sound amazing. If you like historical architecture than this is a great building to stop into while in Salt Lake as well. There is a lot of history on Temple Square and always someone, missionary or volunteer, to tell you about it. Try to catch music and the spoken word while they are in the Tabernacle as well, its amazing. The organ is also wonderful. The degree of sound and movement that the really good organists have are amazing.
Beautiful church. We sat in on a recital, the huge organ is mesmerizing. The person playing it gave information on the Church and the instrument which was very interesting. He played a few songs that just filled the whole room with vibrant sound. The gardens and statues are beautiful and the people with the church were very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable.
Absolutely beautiful! Im not a mormon, but this was touching. Well worth the visit. Staff was very friendly and not intrusive about their religion.
As part of Temple Square this is quite an amazing, interesting building. You can visit inside aswell - free of charge - so would recommend to do so.The whole place is nice for taking pictures and no, you dont have to be a Mormon to visit!
The grounds are Beautiful and Serene. Adding to the quiet nature everyone has while walking around. The architecture of the Temple and the surrounding buildings are an enjoyment to look at.
An unbelievable and riveting experience no matter what religion, faith or belief system you have. Listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir along with the Mormon Tabernacle Orchestra is absolutely amazing in every way.We attended the performance there every Sunday morning called the "Spoken Word" and it is a very highly professional earth shattering experience. Tears will well up in my eyes because it is so awe inspiring how the sounds that are created are so perfect. Being in professional showbiz and working in entertainment for many years, at first... I thought it had to be, must be recorded. Nope! It was live all the way! I was rocked to the core. The time we attended the Memorial Day recording of the Spoken Word there was not a dry eye in the entire building. Reason why is because the perfect crescendos of the music and singing that led up to the powerful ending just overwhelmed us all. Feelings and emotions brought on by this type of music in the arena of light and hope are outstandingly riveting.Like I said, no matter where you are in your life, you must see this live performance and forever remember it.
If you are visiting salt lake city, this place should be among your top choices. It is really beautiful and when you go inside to listen the music. It is really divine.Every weekday they have organ Recital at 12 pm, you shouldnt miss that. The buildings around in the temple Square are also top photo spot in salt lake city.
If you come to Salt Lake City be sure that you will be here on Sunday Monday. Every Sunday at 9:30 AM is the most amazing FREE concert. You will see the more AMAZING choral.
