This Italian kitchen & chophouse serves patrons in a richly appointed setting full of antiques.
This place is the real deal- amazing food and staff is super friendly
This restaurant is a famous place in philadelphia known for this healthy portions of amazing Italian food. It also doubles as a steakhouse. From the art on the walls, to the tiniest of details- you will love its ambience and beauty. Lobster fra Diablo, double veal chops, filet moda and penne sesso are just a few of the favorites. The sauces are to die for and there is always a fantastic wine selection of Italian import specialty wine as well as domestic and French! You can get engaged here; or have a night at the bar or enjoy dinner with family as it is an all around and special occasion restaurant. If headed to the Stadiums remember to stop off here first. There is free parking too!!!!
Staff was amazing but the food was just slightly better if thats possible.
Beautiful restaurant with good food...4 stars is what they deserve as our meal definitely was not a 5 star experience.
The Saloon is such a classy restaurant but the hostess . Apparently is not with her snide remark ,after explaining way we had to cancelling our reservation due to the Phillies game running late . We stopped by just to see if we might still be able to get a meal . She said the kitchen was closed, no problem my girlfriend heard her remark about basicly we had a lot of nerve just for asking . i know the queen has passed away ,apparently the hostess thinks she in that catagory .
I ordered a ny strip $51.00 they serve me sirloin steaks and think badder me the most the manager toll me that sirloin and ny strip his same if they were told me they were out of ny strip probably i were order a filet made me verry apset wen the manager said his same cut
Ivw been here many times in the past always having a great experience. Tonight was even better. Front and back of the house crushed it. My courses were executed perfectly and sent out in a timely manner. Our server was attentive and always in the right position to attend to my needs. Well done!
This places food is stupid good. My favorite steak in all of Philly. Dont skip on Saloon!
Love this place. Great class A service, awesome menu. Hottest long hots around. Cool ambiance and drinks. Cant wait to return... tried shrimp scamp, bosss chicken, and stuffed peppers, salmon. All great.
Unexpectedly amazing experience! We were 7 people and had 6pm reservations. They sat us down upon arrival and our waitress immediately gave us amazing attention and service. She did everything right. The food was incredible. I never expected the food to be that good there. I had surf and turf. The filet was cooked exactly as I asked. If I could give them 6 stars I would. Great atmosphere in a historic place. I highly recommend.
Great brunching spot. Was delicious!
The filet mignon, cooked medium, with wine(?sauce was the best steak I have ever had.
Friends from Philly highly recommended this restaurant during our recent visit- Were glad they did!! Old school saloon decor, old fighters on the wall, dark wood, white tablecoth type place- was excellent.I had the veal chop and wife had the seafood special. Drinks were good, ambiance is awesome and the staff was great. Our waitress was very busy and was training a new waiter. I felt her "engagement" with us could have been better (yes I do expect to be fawned over :)). However with todays restaurant staffing issues I am overlooking that for this review.Id definitely go back and enjoy this excellent restaurant on my next Philly trip.
This place has delicious food with charming old-school Italian vibes. All of their seafood and steak dishes are phenomenal. Our party got there early on a Thursday night and it was quiet up until about 7pm when the place really filled out. Definitely make a reservation before going.
Better than ever! It’s been a long time since my last visit. Pittsburgh rare filet, langostino, stuffed peppers, incredible staff and service! A true pleasure!
This is literally my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. They do everything RIGHT. Alex is an incredibly attentive and skilled bartender and we love getting served by Gabriella the nights she’s working. The food is so fresh, huge portions, the ambiance is so comforting and the service is top notch. We will come back again and again, and always leave full and happy.
I finally found this place. I was recommended here by family that lives in South Philly. Some of the best food Ive ever had. The date I brought was amazed, I played it off like I knew about it for years. Had a great night. Definitely recommend.
We have always been enjoying our experiences dining at the Saloon, food , service and the atmosphere far exceeded our expectations. We chose to dine here to celebrate a birthday as usual we were greeted and seated in a timely manner served bottled water and bread immediately. As time went on it was a while till our waitress finally greeted our table. We ordered drinks Halfway through telling us the specials she excused herself said the other table order was up ill be back to tell you about specials. It was a while till she came back she took orders then said will be back still no drinks When we got our appetizers the muscles had a strong fish smell when going through many of the muscles were closed dead. The sauce had a sour taste not the usual exceptional ones we had on other visits. I never received a sauteed pepper appetizer we ordered when waitress came back she took order again and said she will get our drinks from the upstairs bar she did not know what was going on with the downstairs bartender he was off his game when we finally got the order we received the roasted peppers not the sauteed we ordered and the portion was far less then we had on previous visits. My main dish the portion was far less than I had previously we wanted refills on our empty drinks no waitress! Our dinning experience did not meet up to our expectations that we are accustomed to with this fine quality establishment The diners at the other table agreed the food and service declined it may be due to staff shortages or quality of supplies however at the prices of this establishment we expect more. Will give another try but not was our usual experience which generally was top 5 star.
Food was great hence the 2 stars instead of 1. Service was only ok. We got reservations for a later dinner, so when we went it wasnt packed at all. However, it took the server 20 minutes before she came to place our order. It took 50 minutes from sitting at the table to receive the appetizers and another 35 minutes to receive our entrees. We had to flag down our server or other servers every time we needed a wine refill. After the initial cup of water we had to ask another server for water refill at the end of our meal, because our table server did not even bother to refill our water. When we were leaving, we were also verbally harassed by some other drunk customer at the bar. Overall, the food was enjoyable but the whole experience was not.
Drinks were on point and generous.Service was attentive yet not overbearing.First bite into their Diablo Spaghetti with lobster tail and shrimp ..made you stop and think “is this really that good?”“Why yes..Yes it is. “Pancetta carbonara was cheesy enough and portion was more than fair.Casino clams; would definitely order again. Flavorful and fresh.Must try and I will be back very soon!
Be sure to sit downstairs or at the bar area upstairs. The other room upstairs[ in the back] not nearly as charming as the rest
Excellent meal and excellent service. Great wine selection. Only challenge is parking. Take a Lyft if possible.
Came here for my birthday dinner with my husband.(first time here I dont even know where to start. The food was amazing every bite. The dessert was to die for. Out waiter was so so friendly. Frank thanks so much we will be back
What can I say about this place?.....best restaurant in Philly!!...food is always delicious, service is always top notch, drinks are always made great! Even the car valets, Nicky and Greg are excellent! Marty and the staff are the best!!...Period!!
One of the best Italian restaurants in the country. Having traveled most of the country and being an accomplished cook, this place is AMAZING.Been going for years and never had any issues whatsoever. The food is fantastic as is the service. The staff are extremely professional which attests to managements leadership. If youre in Philly and dont go youve missed a gem. If you do go, youll be spoiled when you go home and will never be able to find this quality back home and curse every time you go to an Italian restaurant. The clams Pavarotti and rigatoni as appetizers will set the stage. The veal Osobouco is to die for as is the veal Mondolasie. Most of the pasta is homemade. This is a dinner youll remember for a long time and worth every dollar.Enjoy.
Had a good dinner upstairs. Great atmosphere and service. Definitely more of a special occasion type restaurant with their pricing
There have been a number of people we know who raved about the Saloon and now we know why. This was a top-notch dining experience from start until finish. The evening started with being welcomed by a pleasant valet attendant who greeted me with a warm smile, he was very friendly. Once in the restaurant I was impressed by the beautiful decor and staff who could all double as Instagram models - my wife said that our server may be the prettiest server she’s ever seen. Then came out fantastic food! Each dish was an A++!! We will definitely be back to enjoy another wonderful evening at the Saloon.
Food and dessert was DELICIOUS! Ordered a Macallan 18 with Clams casino and Veal stuffed peppers with melted mozzarella with a Macallan 18 for apps. The Truffle steak for dinner and Chocolate & Peanut butter tiramisu for dessert. WILL be back again!!!! 😍🤤🤤🤤
Decided to visit Saloon for a birthday dinner for my girlfriend and was very impressed! The atmosphere inside the restaurant had a cozy, yet fancy feel to it, which was nice. It didnt quite fit the mostly Italian-based menu, but we didnt mind that at all!I ordered veal parm with a pasta side and my girlfriend ordered a surf and turf special that consisted of stuffed lobster and a filet. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. Service was great as well! Overall, Id say this is a great "special occasion" spot because Id be broke if I came too often! That being said, I will definitely be returning!
I’ve heard about this spot for years.. finally found a random reservation on a Friday night and am still dreaming about the ravioli of the day. The soup was amazing too. And the service was incredible. Not to mention how cozy and at home I felt. Will be back here often!
Excellent food in a beautiful atmosphere. The clams in a white sauce were very good. Service was phenomenal.
Came here for very important person in my life’s birthday. It was restaurant that we hadn’t come across after having probably passed it a lot of times while walking by in the area. It’s quite odd we never saw it, because they even have a couple of parking lots along the Avenue. Anyhow, it was a wonderful time. The homemade pesto and bread was wonderful, and we both enjoyed the main dishes. Our server Frankie was very friendly and accommodating. He had a great knowledge of the menu. This is definitely a wonderful place to check out if you’re in the area. I do want to add that I especially look for atmospheres that are comfortable and energetically safe. I felt very cozy and at home here.
My boyfriend and I visited Saloon last night for dinner and drinks to celebrate a few anniversaries and major life celebrations together. Our experience was incredible and we cant wait to return sometime this fall or winter for another meal. The food is incredible - the best meal I have had in a long time. The cocktails and drinks are perfectly made. Dominick was very welcoming when we arrived and was kind enough to share the restaurants history with us. Bobby and Taylor also made our experience delightful. We felt right at home during our dinner. This really was a special evening for us. Thank you to everyone at Saloon for making this time in our lives even more memorable. Cheers!
My husband and I had an excellent dinner at the Saloon last PM. We started off with “The Sampler”, Poblano Stuffed Peppers, Clams Casino, Clams Pavorotti, and Langostinos. This was a fabulous appetizer! For dinner, my husband had Veal Parm with the best homemade raviolis ever! I had the Lobster Francaise, with Broccoli Rabe, Beans and Sausage. Our cocktails were spot on and OMG, I almost forgot to mention the bread and pesto. The pesto is homemade and hands down the best I’ve ever had aside from my future daughter in law’s This Resturant is a “must visit” when we are in the city.I have to give a shout out to our server Amy. She was so sweet, kind and beautiful. She not only remembered serving us 3 weeks ago when we dined there but she knew exactly what we had including our drinks. Now that’s impressive!! She knows the menu well and when she goes over the specials with you she describes them in such a way that you want to have one of each. Thank you Amy for your excel, ent service and we look forward to seeing you again soon.Kim & Scott G.
Have never had a bad experience! 30 years doesnt lie!Seriously, Bucket list in Philly!!
First my $50 filet came out well done so I sent it back and the next one was rare, very disappointing they comped it as well 3 beers, Bill was still 300. And definitely not worth it. Time to hire a new cook or maybe invest in a meat thermometer. Great anniversary dinner 🤮
The food was stupendous! The service was very good. I wish the staff wore masks. Numbers are spiking again. They didnt seem to notice that each time they approached my table I put my mask up. Thats the only thing that ruined it for me.
Very nice restaurant in South Philadelphia. Our server and the staff were great. The food was very good.. I would recommend the crab, tomato and mozzarella salad and the spinach stuff prosciutto- excellent. We also had the antipasto, with stuff peppers, clams and langostino, which was amazing!
Amazing Italian food located in Philadelphia!! Service was superb from start to finish; the food, ambiance, and service was spot on. Will definitely return soon.
Has always been one of our favorite Philly restaurants for each of the three couples who were there the other night. Unfortunately the whole night was a disaster. The waiter spoke so fast that we thought there was one soup when there was actually two. He had no idea about the size of the steamers, if the casino was whole or chopped, etc. He had to go back to the kitchen three times. He brought out the wrong dinner for three of us. Two of us were served our dinner and it took 15 minutes for the other four were served. He then brought out three glasses of rose when it should have been pouille fuse. The manager was very apologetic and comped the alcohol. Well wait a long time before we return.
Wonderful family owned restaurant. Great food. Fun parking, Great service. Recommended by a friend who hadnt been there in 20 years. Just as she described it. Go for dinner and enjoy.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Everyone was following protocols to ensure everyones health and safety. It was busy, but never felt too crowded. Definitely going to be going back. Veal chop was incredible, as was everything else. Dont skip the dessert!
From the ambiance to the food, this place is great. I’ve been here a few times but tonight we came by just to have dessert after dinner. It was amazing per usual. We had a couple cocktails from the bar, cappuccino with Kailua, cannoli cake, peanut butter and chocolate cake and chocolate chip cheesecake. This place is a must go if you are in Philly.
I ordered the Veal Piccata for my entree and Im glad I ordered a side of pasta. The veal does not come with a side. If youre hungry, it wont be enough. Which is great because the portion size is just right. You dont walk out completely stuffed. One last item...make sure to bring your wallet.
Customer service was excellent. Its like they knew when you needed something before you asked. The restaurant was very clean. Even the staff was clean cut. And how they dressed brought a sense of respect to the restaurant and the customers. For the one day my wife and I felt like the value of are hard earned money was worth spending. And left very happy reflecting on how we enjoyed our time at the Saloon.
Amazing dining experience in South Philadelphia! Fantastic food & exceptional service. Make your reservation and pay them a visit!
Amazing ambience and atmosphere aside, Saloon has some of the best Italian food Ive ever had. Everything is fresh and cooked perfectly. While the food is good, the desserts are to die for. Peanut butter mousse with a dark chocolate ganache, cannoli cake, delicious tiramisu. Save room for it all because you cant take a wrong turn. Staff are all highly personable and well trained. An absolute must in South Philly, and I personally absolutely must return as soon as possible.
We had their pasta/lobster/shrimp dish and the fish special. The pasta dish was especially good. The fish special was fresh and tasty. However, for the small amount of fish the price was excessive.Site location, center city, is easy to drive to and parking is free.Dining atmosphere is comfortable with subdued lighting but bright enough to read offerings. Ive taken business clients there several times and always left happy. The very same can be said with loved ones. For me, this restaurant is a treat.
Excellent service in a south Philly classic. I wasnt aware of the Saloon, but oh what was I missing! Steak, seafood and pasta. All done just right. Even the cocktails. Dont miss it. Free parking as well.
We ate here on a Saturday night which was a perfect amount of busy. There was live music which set the mood perfectly. The decorations and lighting enhance the experience so wonderfully. We had swordfish as an appetizer which was perfectly cooked. The pasta was delicious, and the stuffed salmon was incredible. For desert we had the cannoli cake and tiramisu which I would definitely recommend. 5/5!
