Salado Canyon Trailhead - Hiking area in Alamogordo, United States
Awesome little hike. ..: plenty of little off paths to go to the water before the falls, falls have plenty of spots to sit and soak up the sounds. Refreshing on a hot day.
Wonderful short trail. Gets a little thin after the bridge, but the little river under the bridge is very pretty & nice.
Beautiful!
This was a nice almost 2 mile trail. We didnt see much wildlife, but did get to see a lot of native plants and some really pretty views.
Short but great finish
Did a family friendly hike with a group. It is a short trail and after a mile and a half on the Salado trail you come to what was a old bridge that is no longer there. Do not continue past the down bridge, there is no longer a trail. This trailhead in the opposite direction takes you to Bridal falls, which we did not do as it was cold and windy. There are informative signs on the trail for the tressel that is still intact. Very limited parking. Also, dont listen to google maps for direction if you do not have an off-roading vehicle or truck, as it will take you down a shoddy dirt road. You can get to this trail head through La Luz.
Very secluded but peaceful. Our family enjoyed the trail.
Awesome trail. Do the bridge and the falls. You wont be disappointed.
Beautiful views, nice wide trail (though a bit slippery in spots which adds to the adventure), really felt out there without being far from the road, lovely little waterfall at the end, the kids enjoyed the rock climbing.
Fun easy hike.
Nice easy walk along an old train bed. Dusty and some rocks but easy to traverse. Easy to imagine folks riding the train along the winding route from Alamogordo to Cloudcroft back in its heyday.
Plants and animals awesome. But you better be interested in scrub desert
Highly suggested starting spot to get to bridal veil falls. The canyon tightens up on your way to the falls. The plants are beautiful and a lot to look at on your way up. Super quick and straight forward. Highly suggested for a quick stop if you are looking to stretch your legs. Lots to do in this area to add more beauty
Awesome trail and views
Had so much fun on the 3 mi long round trip trail today! The falls were frozen and gorgeous!💕
Love it! So cool! The falls are bigger than I thought! Its an easy trail, its a walk
Great place to get away from the daily stress of the city life.
Awesome weather took Bridal falls along the creek.
Its nice.
Its a peaceful and rather easy hike. Pretty flat and the terrain stays roughly the same. A small stream runs through and theres a wooden bridge thats nice for pictures. For a more adventurous and slightly harder hike, look at The Tunnel Vista on highway 82. Its got some light rock climbing too, next to a waterfall.
Parking is limited at the trailhead (maybe 3 cars), trail to Bridal Veils Falls from there is about 3 miles, theres also a trail to Salado. Really well kept trail, very scenic and picturesque. Easy trail, there is a set of stairs you have to climb if youre doing the Bridail Veil Fall hike, other than that, trail is pretty flat.
Hiked to Bridal Falls today small waterfall but good noise, beautiful day for a hike, easy trail.
Great place to go hiking with or without the kids. But it needs better signs to show you how to get to the waterfall . Just go towards the red fence its open even if it doesnt look like it is.
Beautiful but do take water as it gets hot and it is the dessert
Nice easy hike. 30 minutes to bridal veil falls.
Nice relaxing hike! Check it out at sunset if you can.
This was a pretty cool hike, thought there would be more to it.
Part of the "rails to trails" system that tells of a bygone era of commerce, transportation, and engkneering. Well maintained, short, trail that incorporates the Trestle into the trail itself. Can be paired up with Bridal Veil Falls trail for a well rounded hike for experiencing the transition from desert to mountain.Paved road and small gravel parking area at the trailhead.
Always a nice easy hike.
Easy, short trail. Well maintained
Its around 1/2 mile to the trestle from the parking area.
Beautiful trails
We hiked it with our kids, who enjoyed it since its only 1.2 mi one way.
Nice hike round trip about 3 miles to bridal vail falls.
Great hike for everyone. Lots to look at like the Bridal Falls and an old abandoned home. Not too difficult to go down or come back, have water with you though.
We live nearby so my dog and I come here often, esp in the months when it is cold in Cloudcroft. It is nearly always warm and sunny here, other than the wintery-est days. There are trails that are fairly short, but hours of fun for dogs (and probably kidsin the shallow, gurgling streams under the cottonwoods.
A beautiful Lincoln National Forest trail for hiking, running, walking or biking. Terrific during monsoon season. A great place to find native and rare flowers, like the Sacramento prickly poppy or Indian paintbrush or broom dalea or ocotillo to name a few. Pleaseup after your dogs.
Great trail. Nice hike, not to difficult. Beautiful sight to see. Easy to get to.
Nice trail. Early parts of the trail are easy with some nice views along with a waterfall.
It took longer to find the trailhead than it did to hike down to the trestle and back.
Nice spot to hike. Not many trees though. Take water.
Pretty nice secluded trail, its a little out of the way, but worth the extra time it takes to get there.
Pretty fun hiking area
Awesome place for a hike or walk
This trailhead provides access to some wonderful hikes like the hike to the Bridal Veil falls, the Salado Canyon Trestle and other trails around the canyon. It is nestled in a beautiful spot, the desert creek is perennial with cool refreshing water, and the landscape is fantastic with very interesting geological formations and awesome Chihuahan desert highland ecology.
See, I was trying to find Tapia Canyon. Salado was fun and beautiful though.
Great hiking! Waterfall is worth checking out
Enjoyed a nice little walk to check out Bridal Veil Falls. The road to it was fun to navigate. Both of my GPSs wanted me to take Steep Hill Road, which I said no way! Not with a name like that, plus it was a dirt road. Not ideal for my RV. Coming from High Rolls, NM, it wasnt much better with tight curves, steep grade and posted speed limit of 25 MPH (15 MPH around each switchback). Once we got there, the weather was perfect. It was a nice trail, part of New Mexicos Rails to Trails Association. It was a 4 mile hike round trip. On our way back from the falls, we met another family, who promptly inquired, "Is there water?" To which I replied, "Yes." Thankfully this waterfall is spring fed, so always running, even in a drought.
Awesome trail
Great hiking, several options but no real loops.
