353 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95062, United States, Santa Cruz
Casual, A-frame eatery offering Thai staples such as curries & noodles in timber-clad surrounds.
I dont ever do reviews but these people are heating up and selling Costco egg rolls as their own lmao. Very lame food.
This as the second time visiting, Very mediocre Food. Curry was too watery. Rice was extremely dry almost felt stale. But since not many places with vegetarian options are open near Santa Cruz after 8.00. This spot can be good for hungry tummies.
Very authentic Thai food and the taste is amazing. The spice level is medium but flavor is very rich. This was a random pick and turned out to be great. Entree portion size sufficient for 2 people to share 2-3 items.
I don’t know if we caught them on an off day or what, but the food was not good. Both the pad Thai and the peanut dish were wayyyyy too sweet. The brown rice was undercooked too.My husband is allergic to shrimp and had ordered pad Thai with tofu but we think utensils contaminated with shrimp must have been used to serve the pad Thai because he left with a really bad stomach ache. It’s a beautiful atmosphere inside but I’m afraid the food just isn’t worth it.
Loooove love love this place! The food is always outstanding and they have a huge variety of dishes. So many great flavors and the vegetables are so fresh!
Everything was so good. And a very nice waitress served us.
Great food! Great Service! We were very well taken care of. We were a party of 6 and really enjoyed our time. I had the red curry and it was excellent. We will be back!
We came for dinner around 730. They seated us quickly and the women working that evening were all very friendly. We tried the shrimp roll, chicken satay, tofu salad, and the bbq pork, we thought everything with delicious and the orders came out paced with our drinks. It was a really good experience and I will think of this spot the next time we are in Santa Cruz.
This place was amazing!! My family and I love Thai food and this is one of the best places we have been to! We will definitely be going back to Sala Thai and would absolutely recommend it!
Got Pad Thai. Walked half an hour each way (past a closer Thai placefor it. No regrets, 10/10 will come again. 3 plates for $20 worth of pad thai!
Chicken satay was juicy and has the traditional charred flavor which was tasty. Peanut sauce was too thick.Beef yum salad was skimpy. A few slices of meat served over iceberg lettuce. It lacked herbs and freshness.Red chicken curry with bamboo shoot was a bit watery and again lacking in freshness. The bamboo shoot was sour tasting. I ordered super spicy but got a hint of spice. The condiment tray lacked freshness. Three dishes for $42 was reasonable but I probably wouldnt repeat or if I did, set lower expectation. This is like eating at a food court.Service was okay.
The air-conditioning today is really hot. I can feel myself sweating inside the restaurant. We ordered few things. The yellow curry lamb: Taste was alright, but the lamb taste not as good.Sticky rice with mango: Some of the rice is overcooked and hard.Combination #2 Pho (Beef): Taste is good but portion is small, and I found hair inside the soup. The services was alright with 1 waitress but not the other. The one with good service is American, and the one with bad service is from Thai.
Don’t go here if you eat gluten free (especially if you have celiac!). Two staff members told completely different information regarding ingredients and prep. Be safe out there!
The take out was good, but food is always better in the restaurant 😋Fast wait time and easy to order by phone. Friendly staff!
My First Ever Thai restaurant. Enjoyed the Food, The Thai Crunchy Spring Roll was superb with the sweet Peanut Dipping Sauce. Moderate . Recommended.
We were a party of 5 and we all thoroughly enjoyed. The salmon fillet was the best Id ever tasted.
The service here was great. I had dinner on Saturday and they served a group of 35 of us. My pad thai with duck was good, though a bit salty.
I can’t believe how fast the food came out, the service was a little slow, and the menu was a little frustrating because they had things like boba on the menu but they don’t have it.. and a few other items that are just crossed out on some menus and not others. We ordered the pad see ewe and the red curry. The food was good overall very hot and flavorful.
Ordered Tofu Pho, was told there were "some vegetable in it" not really any veggies, should have paid extra for "some vegetables". Ordered some Thai Egg Rolls, menu description said "stuffed with seasoned black mushrooms & shitaki mushrooms" no mushrooms present. Waitress was not helpful when brought to her attention. Disappointed with not getting what I ordered & not acknowledged or taken off bill. My friend enjoyed hers so didnt push issue.
The food was good. However, the service was not good. The person who attended us, seems to be the manager or a senior staff. She was managing too many things and the restaurant was crowded. So, it was very slow. we were two families that went together. While ordering, we clearly asked for separate checks. However, after waiting for 20 minutes after we are done eating, and going to the desk asking for our checks, we get a single check. It also had items that we didnt order. People came after us and left before we got all the food we ordered. It seems to be a bad coincidence for us. However, the food was good and the other tables did seem to get good service too. So am rating this higher.
Excellent food. Good service. I would only deduct half a star for portion size and slightly greasier than necessary.I ordered the drunken noodles which were delicious but only had like 2 zucchini pieces, was pretty greasy, and not as many noodles as theyve had in the past. If they just added a little more zucchini and noodles and less oil itd be excellent! Im sure you can ask for that and they would do it..Ultimately, gave that half star back because they substituted peanut sauce for their eggrolls at no extra charge. It came with 5 very tasty and fresh eggrolls for a very reasonable price. Was hoping for fresh spring rolls to balance the greasier drunken noodles but they were sold out.All in all a great choice for Thai food.
Maybe the best coconut soup in town, great assortment of menu items. Fair prices, really good service they really know how to please people.
I ordered chicken satay, pot stickers and BBQ Pork. It was my 1st time and I must say that uve been to Thailand. This is is close as it gets. Awesome food
Pho is not a real pho at all. Horrible. Thai Tom yum and Thai egg rolls are too bad. How come can they sell them ? Those kinds of food for pigs, not for human. Too expensive as well
Soooo good! Great prices too! Service was good. The only thing not-so-great was that sharing a menu amongst 3 of us. Also, I ordered the curry powder dish that was supposed to come with broccoli, but it was missing. I was not told they were out of broccoli.
First time visit since I just started working in the area. I usually order Pad Khee Mao as the first dish to every Thai restaurant I go to for the first time as a benchmark.Im very impressed with the dish. The flavor profile is really close to the one from the motherland. There will always be vegetables that arent usually in the dish being served and the ones that wasnt there due to availability. Those vegetables makes sense and dont conflict with each other in terms of flavor. I like that its not watery or soupy and even more, it has really good wok hei. You can taste the smoky and char flavor of the stir fry.Overall, its really good and will be going back to check out other dishes.Thai person approved. 👍
I ordered 2 kinds of thai spicy (xxx spicyfried rice from this establishment and was surprised and impressed that it was actually spicy. Food was delicious of course! Love that they have tofu, veggie, mock chicken, and mock duck options.
Takeout system could use a lot of improvement. Long line just to get in the door and ask about your order, people would often cut the line and go straight through the door. When I finally got in (10 min after my scheduled pick up timeI was told it would be another 20 min and I would need to wait in the line again to come in and get my order. There was almost a fight out front because of people cutting the line. I am happy to follow COVID guidelines but their organization and communication is lacking and unfair.Food was just ok (got a couple of curries).
Solid spot for takeout during Covid-19. Dishes can be hit or miss, but the hits are numerous, and great. Have liked the red curry, pad see ew, spring rolls.Order directly from restaurant for better prices than available through mobile app-based pickup/delivery.
Amazing spring rolls, egg rolls, pho, noodles, everything there is great quality food. The staff is so friendly and kind, always very welcoming! They are open for limited indoor dining and togo food of course. Great spot for lunch and dinner! I highly recommend!
We were very satisfied customers before the shelter-in-place order, and I have sympathy for how hard this time is on restaurant owners. But the prices have soared and this is the second time the food we ordered has been barely edible. I would have been more generous with my rating if the price had gone up but the quality had been maintained. There wont be a third chance.
Sala Thai is one of the most consistent and tastiest Thai restaurants I have eaten at. I travel the Country for a living and try Thai food in every city I can and they on par with the top 2 or 3 I have tasted in North America.Highly recommend the Chicken Pho, the Pad Thai Prawns, Drunken Noodles, and Yellow Curry. Fried egg rolls are awesome too.
My husband and I had a date night out with our 8 month old baby and had such a wonderful experience. As soon as we walked in we were greeted warmly , we asked if we could sit in the closed section and we were able to relax , unwind, watch the baseball game . Our server walked us over , served us quickly and the food was amazingly flavorful!!! We enjoyed Thai spring rolls, chicken and lamb curries ! We will definitely be back!!
Our favorite Thai restaurant ever, pretty much. Pad Thai is to die for- but sometimes simple requests are forgotten. Asked for no Bell peppers (personal preferenceand got a ton anyway... So be aware. But I still highly recommend this little gem.
Great authentic taste. Nice quite clean place with awsum romantic ambiance music and lights.
Huge portions but average taste...overall experience was good. Will recommend fine dining..
This is one of my favorite stops for a cheap and quick bite. Everything is good, you cant order badly. The service is quick and on point, dishes are served quickly. The restaurant itself is lovely and decked out with fancy thai art.
Been here a couple of times and its a solid good Thai restaurant, with an added bonus of Pho soup! Thats actually what drew us in. Good quality food, beautifully decorated place and nice staff & service. This will be a frequent hit for us.
Just ordered takeout and it was asuper fast - ready in 15min and bsuper delicious! We had the spring rolls with peanut sauce and as mains the eggplant dish and the green curry both with tofu since I’m vegetarian. We’ve been to Thailand a couple of times (and many Thai places around the worldand this one did not disappoint. Would come back and can only recommend.
Great food, superb ambiance and phenomenal service. Have not had Pho or Thai food like this since my travels in SEA. Had veggie Pho and Sweat and Sour soup with beef was awesome. Also amazing crab Rangoon. Fried banana with honey stratified my sweet tooth. Also open on Thanksgiving!
Ordered Pad Thai with shrimp and basil spicy fried rice and they are both tasty. The coconut tofu soup is also good. They offer lunch special on weekdays price ranging from $8.00+. This is a must try when in Soquel, Santa Cruz.
Stopped for the first time with my girlfriend after spending time at the boardwalk. We were greeted and sat right away. We ordered the red curry with chicken, chicken pad thai and the chicken laap salad. The food was pretty good, however the chicken in all the dishes was pretty dry and a little overcooked. While the food was good, the service was lackluster. There were only two servers/hosts and neither seemed to know what the other was doing. I flagged one down to ask for the check and some to-go boxes, and he acknowledged my request. It took nearly 5 minutes before I got either as he was more focused on ensuring the table with people he knew personally was well attended to. I get it, he knows them and wants to make sure they get excellent service, but at least let your co-worker know another table needs their check and to-go boxes.Overall, if Im craving Thai food the next time Im in Santa Cruz, Ill give Sala Thai another try, but first impressions are hard to overcome.
Our waiter was nice as is the ambience but I was very disappointed with some of the food. We ordered the pad Thai noodles, and disliked how sweet it was. The pho was okay but I ordered with tendon and there wasnt much tendon, the curry dish was decent but the portion was rather small. I did like the eggrolls and Thai tea.
There arent many places in town to grab pho and this is by far our favorite. The broth is the most flavorful on this side of the hill. The staff is always super friendly and know exactly what my daughter and I want when we walk in.
vegans: this is actually a vegetarian friendly menu. They have mock chicken & duck which is desirable because its significantly more protein than tofu. It tastes better and has great texture too. Try the eggplant curries🌶 and drunken noodles‼️ awesomeness. Pad Thai can be made vegan too.
Big portions and healthy food. Good for big groups.
I loved it. We were a party of ten. We managed to sit at one table because we all wanted to be together. Food was great. No extra charge impose for being six adults and four kids.Food and service was great. Our server was very nice. 6 stars.
Amazing food, great service wonderful for family or just a date with your loved one
The atmosphere here is awesome and it certainly was crowded on Friday evening. There were still tables available, but I was there for take out. Ordering was quick & painless and the food was ready quickly. The Tom Ka soup is amazing!
Came from Southern California and looked for a good Thai place. We saw the reviews and decided to check it out. At first, waitresses were nice, the food on the other tables look good.As we were waiting for our food, what walks across the booth but a huge cockroach. Ugh, lost our appetite and left. The people in the next booth saw it as well and the lady gave a quick scream. I looked over and saw the waiter see the cockroach and walked over the lady and asked if everything was okay. Really!Wont go back. Where there is one cockroach, there are many. Be aware!
