Sal Mex - Salvadoran restaurant in Glenwood Springs, United States
Food was fantastic. We stopped here for lunch after exiting I70 and heading towards Hwy 133/McClure Pass. (I decided to take the scenic route to Delta, which was THE best decision, so beautiful). We were going to eat at McDonalds but saw this place in a strip mall behind Mickey Ds and said why not. I had the best sopes ever! One chicken, one beef. They were so crispy, fresh and meat was very well seasoned. Husband had empanadas. Also very crispy and seasoned well. Service was very good and staff friendly. Pretty inside, felt like I was in Mexico. Ive never photographed my food before, but it was presented so well I couldnt resist. Cinco Estrellas!!!
Omg LOVE this (not so hiddengem!! We tried the shrimp rellenos, shrimp burritos, platanos, and pupusas and all were so good (wasnt as big of a fan of the shrimp rellenos but I dont think its the dish, its me lol). The beans and rice that come with the dishes are top notch, and we really loved finding solid Salvadorean food in Glenwood springs as well! Also loved that the shrimp burrito was packed with shrimp 🤩 We did takeout both times, but the interior is super cute and the service is very friendly and were patient with all of our questions. Definitely worth a stop while youre in the area!
Service was excellent.. loved the shredded beef empanadas.. 😊😊
Easily one of the best piña coladas Ive ever had- topped with rainbow sprinkled for fun. Food did not disappoint & service was great!
This place is a small little gem, very friendly staff and super delicious food! Would absolutely visit here again.
Im in heaven in the middle of a wonderful meal here. It is so good I had to post right away. Ordered a Ceviche Tostada and it fresh, crisp, and flavorful. Also couldnt pass up a chance to have Papusas as well and they are great. Found this place by accident. Tucked in the corner of an old strip mall.
One of the best Mexican restaurants we have been to! The waiter was friendly and the food was excellent. Everyone at our table got something different and no one was disappointed. We will definitely come here again if we come back to Glenwood Springs!
Good food for reasonable prices plus some alcoholic beverages. Service with a smile. Not crowded and no waiting as some other restaurants.
Pedro is very attentive as soon as you walk in hes greeting and very friendly open and receptive. The food is delicious. I ate a steak and it was to perfection. Job well done. The waitresses are also very attentive.
Great food! Another gem in Glenwood!
The most delicious fajita veggies weve ever had! Excellent service and food all around! The shrimp burrito, chicken fajita quesadilla and chicken enchiladas were awesome.
Would give it 6 stars if I could, everything we ordered was outstanding…I wish we lived closer! Visiting from Denver and wanted good Mexican food…completely exceeded expectations! Highly recommend
One of the best Mexican places weve ever eaten at......and weve eaten at a lot! Friendly service and awesome food!
Food and service was excellent. Everything we ordered had great flavor. Enjoyed the SAL MEX margarita.
Amazing food and service! Great place for families or a date!
Loved the food. I ordered the camarones yucatecano 👌 Nice & friendly staff.
We had an awesome dinner tonight at Sal Mex. This is a small restaurant with a big menu with options for everyone and the service was excellent. Everyone was working together and running our drinks and food, making sure everything was good and checking to see if we needed anything throughout our meal. The food was delicious, the margaritas were strong and tasty. We come to Glenwood Springs yearly at least and we’ll definitely be back!
Such a good restaurant! The food is amazing! Check it out if you’re in town.
I love this spot. Great food. Best tamale I’ve ever had, good burritos and tacos. Always great service and great margaritas! This has become our go to Mexican/Salvadoran place.
Everytime we come to this location, my kids and I order their pupusas 😋Highly recommend to go and check them out!
Awesome pupusas, pollo a la crema awesome, complimentary chips and salsa, local authentic vibe
Exemplary service. Delicious food all around. Beautiful decor. What more can you ask for?
Absolutely the best Mexican food in the surrounding area. I love this place! I always bring people that are visiting here and they say the same. The prices are reasonable and the food is authentic.
This place had great, friendly service and some of the best food I have eaten in Colorado. I also loved all the colorful artwork.
So delicious! We always order extra papusa to take home.
Carne azada was so good that I want it to eat more
I’ve eaten Mexican food in many places but I think this was the best... absolutely incredible!!!
It is like going to Mexico with the brightly colored booths and authentic cuisine. The service and food is great! Margaritas are big and very tasty as well. I don’t usually leave 5 star reviews but they are so consistently good and a favorite of ours.
Amazing food, friendly staff, well back next time were in town. Get the fried ice cream.
Excellent food and service. Tacos were authentic with top notch asada and adobaba. 10/10 recommend.
This was a fantastic experience! We were greeted with a great environment and happy people, then the food came out and to say that my expectations were met is an understatement. The food was incredible especially the rice. Two thumbs up for me 👍👍
Claudia was my server and she was amazing. She had our food out quickly and made sure we had everything we needed at all times! The food was delicious. I’ve been twice and definitely plan on revisiting many more time :)
I ate my tacos so quickly that I forgot to take a picture! HOMEMADE TORTILLAS. Need I say more? Walk into another country with brightly colored chairs and loud music. Everything on the menu is authentic and so tasty. Very grateful we happened upon this whole-in-the-wall! Would definitely go again.
Delicious Food and friendly Service, we enjoy coming mostly everyday during our stay in Glenwood, we highly recommend it. Everything tastes so good and everyone starting from the cooks to the servers provide a great service. We are glad we found this great place.
Delicious food while surrounded by beautiful art.We had the most gracious service and our family was so grateful to enjoy this treasure of Glenwood Springs.Thank you for a lovely evening.
Always great - if youve never tried Molcajete...you really should...
Took the kids there and all I can say is WOW. Both of my boys were happy and trust me thats not easy to find.. Thank you to Claudia for making us feel right at home. Well be back!
It wasn’t that impressive. We got a green chili shrimp burrito which was pretty salty but overall an okay meal. We also got fries and chips and salsa which were okay as well. I mean you can’t expect much from a Mexican restaurant fries but the salsa lacked flavor. Another thing that brought this down was the server unwrapping our straws and touching almost the whole thing. In the times of COVID it would be nice if that wasn’t a thing done. Also it was pretty expensive for everything! In my opinion it’s not worth it.
Jennifer is an amazing server! Food was delicious and the restaurant is adorable.Make sure to ask for the homemade corn tortillas. We will definitely be back!!
Absolutely delicious! Friendly wait staff and good portions without being too much or too little. Definitely recommend!
This place is an absolute gem. Tucked away in a little strip mall, you could easily drive right by.That would be a mistake. The food is amazing, some of the best Mezzo-American cuisine I have had in years. The carnitas were melt in your mouth delicious. The ceviche style seafood was bright and fresh. Top it off with a top shelf margarita and youre in heaven. The service was attentive, warm, and friendly.Fantastic!
omg. Best food we have had all vacation. The margarita was delicious. Small little place but but when you see locals come, you know its authenic.
Excellent service and incredible food. Husband got taco salad, fresh ingredients and crispy shell. I got tampiqueña which is carne asada smothered with shrimp sauce FANTASTIC! Seriously flavorful food.
Real good Mexican breakfast and Pupusas... muy rica comida Mexicana!
The two ladies working there were absolutely wonderful they were so sweet and attentive and funny! The chips came with the salsa AND cabbage, I love that cabbage man.. its so good. The food was also delicious, I ordered two pork pupusas, a carnitas and asada tacos and everything was flavorful and cooked well. The pupusas were nice and crispy on the outside and soft inside 🤤 good selection of spicy salsa on the table. My friends ordered tacos and ceviche and everything was super yummmyyyy
"Top Shelf" Margaritas are horrible! They taste like a cheap pre-mixed margarita you get for $1.50 at the liquor store. I dont suggest getting the carnitas, they are like bad tasting chicharròns. The "combination" burrito with asada is like a bean burrito, smothered in a green sauce which tastes like it came from a can. The chimichanga is tiny like what you would find in the frozen isle of a grocery store. We used to absolutely love this place but this time we were really disappointed. Maybe they changed ownership...? On the upside the staff was super friendly and helpful. They gave us a free dessert which is a very nice gesture but that doesnt offset the $15 plate i couldnt bring myself to eat and the $10 margarita i couldnt bare to drink.
The papusas were some of best Ive had! Salsas were great, they had a cabbage slaw that I really thought was tasty and a great compliment to the Pico. Adobada is hard to find, sometimes, and the adobada taco was awesome. Our waitress was so nice and friendly and really took care of us. From the moment we entered there was a great vibe, and great food!
This was my first time trying Salvadoran food. I ordered mixed pupusas and they were amazing. I ordered the food to go and while I was waiting the staff was mixing Horchata. They gave me a sample and OMG it was delicious. The staff was friendly and professional. The restaurant was clean and well kept.
One of my favorite dining options in Glenwood Springs, the food is delicious I love the combination between Mexican and Salvadorian cuisine . The staff is extremely friendly since the moment you walk in until you leave they will make sure your dining experience is one of a kind. A+.
Service was lackluster. We had to tell the waitress our drink order three times and she checked the same IDs twice. Some alcoholic beverages were unavailable since their alcohol truck never come. The food was pretty good but the alcoholic drinks were watered down.
