Sakurasaku - Cafe in Himeji, Japan
Highly highly recommend! For a truly traditional delicious japanese lunch! There is only one set meal that is served with a choice of either vegetarian, fish or meat. The set comes with the chosen protein source as well as 4 vegetable sides, a miso soup and a small side salad. Dessert is also included. I had Chiffon Cake and you will get your choice of tea or coffee for the price of ¥1000.Everything was delicious, from the meat to the vegetable, the cake and the coffee. The owner also spoke ver good english which was incredibly helpful :)
Amazing resturant and I loved the decor. Food was almost to astetically pleasing to eat, but I did! Absolutely delicious
A very nice place! Rustic style and nice owners. Food was fantastic. Being vegan in Japan isn’t always easy. Please go there and support this amazing restaurant!
Nice traditional restaurant. Great price. The fish we ordered was caught that morning.
This place is lovely! The owner was so nice and accommodating. We went in the late afternoon because we didn’t feel like waiting in line for the lunch hour rush. It was an amazing vegetarian meal, one of the best I’ve ever had. They also sell local produce and honey! Do check them out if you’re in the area!
Food nice, staff so friendly and beautiful!
One of the best places we ate in Japan: home food cooked with heart in a traditional Japanese house. It can’t get any better.
Great little cafe with home made food - they have vegan lunch too! ❤️
Believe the reviews. This is the spot to go to before taking a trip to the Himeji castle. The owner is friendly and the place cannot be more welcoming. The fish option was delicious and if this is good that was presented to me everyday, I would be going vegetarian.
Had a great meal here. Theres a set lunch for vegetarian and meat options and the owners are extremely nice and welcoming and speak English.
I want to recommend this cafe to you.Sakura suku is a japanese food cafe. There is a lunch menu and sweets menu.I recommend the lunch here.Theres two types of lunch, you can chose meat or fish. The cafes owner is a vegetable sommelier and her husband runsa vegetable shop. They cook delicious vegetables in the best way. Lunch includes soup, rice,a maindish, asidedish, dessert and drinks,it is about 1.000yen.Its very reasonable and filling.I have seen foreign guests here before. So it may be easy to visit.there is a few bad points① they have few options. But in other words ordering is easy.② Its far from the station. But close to himeji castle.③ Only cash.please make sure to brings cash with you.
Adorable couple attending this homemade food little restaurant. The woman speaks english and helps you with any doubts. They offer only one menu but it is really complete and healthy. You can choose if you want meat, fish or the vegetarian option. Dessert and tea are good too.
The people at this restaurant are SO NICE.
One of the most enjoyable coffee stops on my Japan trip. I visited on the way back to Himeji Station from the castle. Owner was a very warm and friendly old lady with excellent English who explained the Japanese menu to me. I had the cake set with coffee for 750 yen. The cake was soft and moist and was served with fruits. Highly recommend if visiting the Himeji Castle area.
Tiny shop with a restaurant included. Good place to rest and enjoy some food.
very nice experience
Very fresh and tasty vegan food. Had the set lunch which was a vegetable mixture with potatoes, pumpkin/yam (unsure on that one), corn, asparagus; served with salad, rice and tea. The woman working here was so kind and knows exactly what vegan means. Lovely stop on the way up to the castle!
Amazing food. Amazing service.Perfect atmosphere and exactly where I wanted to be.Felt truly special when we went there yesterday <3 Thank you so much
Lovely restaurant in Himeji, very close to the garden and castle. The food is delicious and everything looks fresh. Both the place and the dishes look traditional and the service is great as well. You have to try this restaurant if youre around.
Great little local restaurant, where the lovely lady cooked and served us. She only had 1 menu iI believe today, which was chicken based and a lot of side dishes. Price about 10$pp.
Second the comment of previous reviewer, hidden gem that we stumbled on. Lovely hostess, simple and delicious food at a reasonable price (behind a grocery store)
Very cute and traditional looking cafe. Had a lovely vegan lunch set. :)
I found this place when I was searching restaurants near Himeji Casult on Google Maps. At first I thought it was a grocery store because they put all the vegetables and fruits outside for sale. We went in, sat down and saw the menu fully in Japanese. My wife and I had no idea whats on the menu but we decided to take the risk and let the owner to prepare whatever she has on the menu. The food turns out to be very delicious especially the Japanese style fish and the chiffon cake. I would highly recommend this place if you want to have a bite near Himeji castle.
Hidden gem! The lady who runs this place is passionate about vegetables and brings you a wonderful selection of pickles, salad, veggies, and on the day we visited a few strips of tasty beef and rice balls. Then a spinach cake with a persimmon sorbet and a coffee. Charming.
If you are looking for vegan food in an authentically Japanese space, look no further. The Veggie Cafe at Sakura Saku is a restaurant space behind a small vegetable shop in a traditional-style houseshop like you might have found in Himeji 400 years ago. The view of Himeji Castle from the tatami where we were eating only adds to the vibe. The food was well-presented, filling, and delicious. The vegan set consisted of a small salted salad, sesame rice balls, and assorted braised vegetables with lightly fried tofu served with roasted green tea. The tofu in particular was not quite like either silken tofu or firm tofu in the West, but somewhere in between. It had a lovely texture. The owner apologized that she does not stock/serve any vegan cakes (vegetarian only), but served coffee and seasonal fruit for dessert.Everything is made to order, but the wait time is not long even when the restaurant is full. When the owner found out we were vegan vegetarian, she confirm in English that she would make our meal with no egg, no dashi, no meat, etc, and asked if wed like it with or without soy sauce (i.e., gluten free). We had a lovely chat about her family, travels, and the New Years holiday. Despite what other reviews have said, the owners English is fine, twelve times better than my Japanese. She spoke more English than anyone at any of the restaurants we visited in Osaka.
Really great vegetarian meals. Highly recommended to anyone coming to Himeji.
Wonderful lunch very close to Himeji Castle. Meat, vegetarian and vegan options available. The owner was wonderful. Price was very good for the amount of food on the set lunch. Cake and coffee or tea to follow. ¥1050 for lunch set.
Nice and cosy place for those, who like to eat good and healthy food. For ¥1050 you can choose between vegan, vegetarian or meat lunch. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They speak decent English to ask you if you can eat egg or milk or other allergens. The place is bright, spacious and comfortable. After lunch you get tea or coffee with a piece of cake. You can also buy some vegetables here. Worth visiting! Cash only.
One of the most delicious and memorable meals I have ever had. Can’t go wrong with the set meal. Beautiful ambience and fantastic value.
Very good restaurant for vegetarians or vegans. The owner made sure to check with us whether eggs and dairy are ok or not when we ordered the vegetarian meal. Our meal was a mix of seasonal vegetables that were pickled, simmered, or pan fried, curry flavored tofu, omelets, salad, and rice. Plus there was a small dessert of cake, fruit, and coffee or tea. It was a really good value for 1050 yen per person.
Fixed meal was generous and very inexpensive. It came with soup, salad, tamago, tofu, corn and rice, and meat options were meat (chickenor fish (octopus). The hostess immediately asked if we were vegetarian and when I said yes she said "Ive got you" andade delicious veggie tempura. She was friendly and spoke very good English.
So worth it. Very friendly, and homemade everything. Great cake! Do it!
The lunch is awesome, although it is only one lunch combo which includes dessert and drink (black tea or coffee). English is not a problem in here.
Really good restaurant! No menu. Try the lunch-set.Also available in vegetarian or vegan. You can speak english if needet.
Fantastic meal and very friendly owners.
Friendly yummy and healthy. I can just sit here for hours.
Beautiful traditional Japanese restaurant close to the castle. Serves a lunch set meal (teishoku). You can choose from 3 types: tofu (ask for vegan, otherwise the set comes vegetarian), meat or fish. You get a ton of veggies, rice, miso soup, tea, coffee and cake/fruit.The menu is in Japanese but you don’t need it. Just speak to the owner/chef who speaks English! Everything is handmade and the veggies are fresh and delicious. Very healthy!!
Lovely little restaurant tucked into the back of a vegetable shop. 1050 yen for a delicious lunch set. The main dish was chicken cutlet which was very tasty. It came with several sides and a salad. Dessert was spinach chiffon cake. Yummy! This restaurant is also popular with vegetarians.
