Very helpful staff and a small free museum about the volcano. Its a little ways walk but worth it.
Interactive, informative. Right beside a bus stop (duh uh).
Its small but free and packed with interesting information. They also had quite a lot of information in English, Chinese and Korean too. The gift shop also had some nice things, including postcards made from tatami!
I arrived at the visitor centre before 9am but it wasn’t open yet, so I went for a dip in the free foot onsen nearby before coming back here again. Was pleasantly surprised by the small museum in the visitor centre, especially the real-time camera footage and status of the island’s active volcano Sakurajima. There were also many interactive displays that teach about volcanoes and stuff so kids would love it here. The staff in the visitor centre was very friendly too, even though they don’t speak much English.
Small but informative museum that explains the volcanics on the island. There is also a short movie with multiple subtitles to watch as well
Nice little information center regarding the volcano and town. Took us 30minutes, we came in just before closing so didnt watch the video they have in the theatre. Also sells local souvenirs.
A must-see for everyone who makes the tour around the volcano and wants some background information or Sakurajima-related gifts. Its difficult to find the right balance between being superficial or too detailed and boring. This place pulls it off.
This is a small centre that has volcanic displays; including a model of the volcano, displays of the vegetation re-growth, and a video display of the volcano erupting. There are seats, and people to answer questions. Please note the displays are in Japanese only, but are pretty self explanatory. Plus, you can get fresh mandarins there.
well worth the stop, foot bath just behind the center.
Super friendly staff willing to help. Informative displays. This is what a visitor centre should be!
Stopped by this visitor center and learned more about the history and formation of the island and surrounding area. Very educational with a small shop inside. Limited parking around
Good place to learn about the island and Volcano before you start heading out. The 13 min documentary is also worth watching as it has multiple language subtitles and is very informative. Also worth trying out the free foot baths.
Nothing special. Only a few visitors came there.....
Biked rental is expensive ($25 USD for 3hbut the only other option on the island has no gears. Admission is free though and they have a short documentary as well as an exhibition on volcanoes and the history of the island.
Its a very small place for visitors. It looks like a small museum for Sakurajima (they also sell some souvenirsI actually got lots of information at here!

I took the tour bus(island view busat this visitor center bus stop. It took just few minutes to walk from the port. Thats why I can firmly say that dropping by this center first is better. You can enjoy both this facility and the tour bus. At this center, I got some souvenirs and lots of information which were provided as a form of video clips and images. A spoy worthy to visit especially for tourists, for sure!

My fsmily enjoyed much hear especially for watching the movie of introduction for Sakurazima. Small museum was nice too.
Really nice place with a free museum that shows a lot of things about the volcano (and a short movie). I really recommend getting there first when you reach the island after taking the ferry so you can identify what you want to see. The foot baths are next to it and they offer a great and relaxing view of the sakurajima.
There were few tourists stopping by the centre, but the facilities and exhibits here are good 👍, and its worthwhile to pay a visit here. The staff working here might give you a questionnaire, its long and tedious, but dont give it up soon because after filling up all the questions you will get a little present.
There are a museum, a theater, and a shop about Sakurajima mountain in this visitor center. A shop has Sakurajima postcards and stamp for sell. Behind the visitor center has a public foot onsen that you can relax, when waiting a next bus go up to the top of view point.
