Sakunthala's Restaurant - Race Course Outlet in Singapore

Was placing an order online.Just before the payment I called the restaurant to know about the sweet dishes.Unfortunately the person attending was not at all friendly.He said “No discount coupon” and “order will take minimum 1.5-2 hrs” without even asking where is the address to deliver.Suggest please be more friendly and courteous to customers.Will not order anymore.

A quick visit to check out Little India and we popped in here for dinner. Everything was delicious and you cant go wrong with a curry and a lime juice.

Been ages since I updated or made a review and been ages since I came here so here goes.We decided to makan here for lunch as boss was craving for nice awesome Indian food. So we told him to make the decision and he decided on Sakunthalas. We arrive around 1pm and was given seats rather fast. Probably lunch crowd was half done so thats good. We looked at the vast menu and really was spoilt for choice. We ended up with 2 Super - Meal, 2 Fish Briyani and 1 Prawn Briyani.Not long after and i mean barely 10mins, food arrived. Briyani came in copper pots and it was a nice touch for sure. Super meal came in trays with bowls of sides and meats and even dessert. You know when the food is good when the table went silent for a bit before starting any conversation. The meat was tender. The chicken was juicy. The fish was flaky but alas the prawns were tiny. Oh well, cant have the best of everything yeah. We had our normal drinks so thats not worth reviewing.All in all, definitely will be back but this time with no time constraints ie not lunch time so as to enjoy the food and all its deliciousness.Food : 4 / 5Staff : 4 / 5Ambience : 3 / 5

Definitely one of the better Biryani that I had in Singapore

horrible experience if i can say the least. ordered a tandoori prata and there was no curry served. had to ask the waiter for curry and it was served in the smallest bowl they could find in the kitchen. what kind of “restaurant” serves prata without curry? and if that really is the case (baffling), shouldnt the waiter have basic common sense to let the diner know? unprofessional. i would really like to know if the waiters and owners of sakunthalas eat prata without curry.

Visited here many times. Specious restaurant and friendly waiters. The food tastes good all the time. Love their naans. Visit them before 630pm for dinner or it will get crowded!

9.5/10 was good food in Sakunthalas. I really enjoyed the food.

Butter chicken does not even taste like butter chicken its very sour its seriously very bad

Used to visit here regularly for the nice ambience and food especially fish head curry. Restaurant was very clean in the past but standard has dropped. My family of 3 had diarrhea one night after eating here. Reported to SFA and restaurant. But no fault found and no service recovery done. Vowed not to visit here anymore.

Utterly disappointing dining experience for the whole family. Food tastes horrible and portions were small. meatballs were passed off as kola urandai and chettinaad fish had raw masala smell, white rice was clumpy and mutton pepper was way too spicy and peppery! We also noticed flies were flying around in the restaurant. Definitely wont be patronizing this restaurant anymore.UPDATE: my mother and myself became unwell after eating at Sakunthalas food palace. We will be escalating this matter to SFA.

We were hyped up about the fish head curry but it was not up to expectations. The vegetables in the gravy was sparse and the fish was flavorless. The chicken varuval and the vegetables with the rice set was very good. The dining services needs improvement. We ordered coke but a coconut drink was brought, we had to ask twice for papadams, our dining conversations had to pause because the busboy took his time stacking the plates and dishing out the left overs into takeout containers right on our dining table. As if to listen to our conversation, I don’t think it was his intention but it was distrusting the dinner conversation. This stacking of empty plates dishing left overs into containers should be done at the empty table next to ours.

Bad service, banana leaf was torn so difficult to eat. We asked for water but never served. Food was so so.

Food is always nice and served hot. Even the chinese cuisine food taste exceptional.Love it!The place is clean and the staffs are very helpful.Ordered mock masala.. taste is 10/10 although the portion is a bit smaller than what i expected

Ordered mutton briyani here for lunchtime. Briyani was not even warm. Had to ask to reheat it. The curry that was served with it was also not warm. Felt disappointed that they charge about 11 to 12 bucks for briyani but they do not check if its heated or not.Overall the amount paid for the briyani does not justify the taste and the quality. Overcharged briyani with poor quality of preparing in my opinion. Better briyani out there in other shops which may not be this expensive. A wasted trip to Skaunthalas this was for me.

Ordered food from Sakunthalas for an event. They did not cater to the amount of pax we ordered, so there was a lack of food. Dessert, honeydew sago, that we ordered was changed without advanced notice (1 hour before start of eventas the honeydew sago was spoilt. It was replaced with ice-cream that was melted when given to guests. The food was not so good also, below expectations. I had contacted them directly regarding this issue. Definitely not going there for dine-in, nor catering.Edit: Ive given my contact details several times already...Still no response from Sakunthalas. Utterly disappointing

Had a very welcoming dining experience here with my family. This is one of the rare children friendly restaurant with ample child seats and sufficient space for dining. The staffs are very helpful and cheery attitude. The food are simply great and plenty of variety even for kids. My 10M old child enjoy the naan. Keep it up:)

It was my first time to Sakhunthalas. Celebrated Fathers Day 2022 with the family.Fantastic ambience, superb service and great food!Loved the massive fish head curry and the butter chicken was out of this world!Will be back soon!

My tastebuds felt heaven. Food of great quality and taste. However, quite busy most of the time. Food takes a long time to arrive.

Disappointed with the naan that we ate this evening. It was like eating a chapathi made by street shops in India(maybe its an unfair comparison with actual Indian Street foodrather than a delicious and puffy bread served in a tip top quality(apparently not today, or who knows since whenrestaurant in Singapore. Instant Butter Paneer tastes nicer than the one we got today.It was so bad that I decided to ordered the vegetarian biryani. Unfortunately they didnt have the vegetarian biryani. What a waste :(

this is a great resturant , for Indian food ... their Fish Head curry is lovely ... not spicy , very flavourful ... thick gravy ... and they provide good service ... recommended 👍👍

Boss Saras go the extra miles to accommodate my reservation even though it clash with another one. On the actual day it was a pleasant experience. Staffs are very friendly and service is tip top. Would definitely organize here again.

Feel not welcomed by one of the staff (short girl). Should train her how to be polite with customers and with staffs as well..Chicken & Prawn briyani was awesome. Mutton Masala meet our expectations. Definitely will come again...👍

Had their vegetarian meal and masala chicken briyani. Food is always tasty and consistent. We were served by Megala, she was very polite. Excellent service by her. As for the food, it would be nice if they had more options for vegetable sides for their vegetarian meal. Besides that, everything was great! Bhindi fry was very good!

Mutton Briyani - the rice is very good, meat seems to be lacking abit in flavour. Butter Chicken - Nice and flavourful! Very nice complimentary papadum too!The waiters and waitress are very nice and efficient too! 👍👍👍

Sakunthalas Restaurant will be remembered for thier warm hospitality and mouth-watering meals served for our daughters wedding reception. When more guests turned up than we invited, they quickly arranged dishes without compromising the taste we wanted with the smile they hold throughout the celebration. We absolutely loved the entire experience we had at Sakunthalas Restaurant and will know who to look out for in the future.

Ordered 3 chicken n 3 mutton briyanis and reminded her many times. Got 3 mutton and 3 mutton masala instead. Disappointed as was looking forward to the chicken briyanis. Should have ordered all chicken briyanis. 😲

Chicken byriani good as usual.It was not crowded at all at 3.30pm .Masala tea was served in a cup.They should have served in the classic tumbler for its taste and authenticity.Vadai should be served with chutney but was served with sambar.Chutney would be nice.Other than that vadai was a small good size ,soft and taste good.

The Vegetarian Meal set had a great variety of sides. I like the blend of spices although I felt like one of the sides was the same (rasam but with vege bits.I will definitely go there again knowing there’s many interesting dishes worth trying. There was some crowd even on a weekday so I bet even they know where the good stuff is at :)

Decent Indian food. Loved the better chicken but the gulab jaamun could be improved

Highly recommend items➡️ Crab Briyani, Lamb Chettinad, Keema Naan and Kashmiri Pulao!! Everything literally stole my heart especially the pulao was rich in ghee,raisins and ample of cashews.Great service by waitress Megala and prices are extremely reasonable compare to other restaurants.

Nice atmosphere and decent Indian cuisine. Staff are friendly and efficient service. Food is flavourful and portions are quite decent. Decent size for the price that you are paying. One downside though is the AC was just set a bit too cold and due to a very few people in the restaurant, the ambient temperature should have been turned up or at lease one or two AC units should have been turned off.

Ordered their biryani rice, butter chicken, eggplant masala and palak paneer. So good. Prices are very reasonable too 👍🏻 will definitely be back again for more!

Overall food is good and reasonably priced. The cheese naan is really yummy as it was served hot and freshly made. Has a nice chewy texture to it. Mutton in the briyani is tender and falls off the bone. Butter chicken is standard and mango lassi is creamy and not too sweet. Papadum was not crispy though, could be better. Don’t expect top service here.

Ordered fish head curry, briyani rice and masala tea for 2pax! Portion for fish head curry is generous. Fish is fresh. Curry taste is towards the sour side and it’s not too spicy! If you can’t take spicy food, this will be suitable.Overall, food and service is good. Would be better if the fish meat is hot.

Wait staff have to brush up on their hospitality skills.Rule of thumb in f&b, Never bring guest in and lead them to a Dirty Table. No matter how busy u are, the turnover must be chop chop. Orelse, plz ask guest to wait at holding area.Baby chair was brought to us upon request, but to our dismay, it was oily n had scrapes of food.Sakunthalas are very well known for the awsum food n repeat customers, but poor service can eventually kill the entire name!Ps. I do not wish to post the dirty pictures as i do not wanna spoil the reputation further.

Pleasantly surprised by their curry fish head, slightly sourish - my kind of curry!The cheese naan is one of the best naan I ever had. Served piping hot with cheese pulls!Cutlery sets not served, we had to request for it.

Best asian food. Staff is very friendly and the place is very crowded on dinner & lunch time. very close to mustafa center. food price is pretty reasonable and its suitable for dine in with friends & and family. Place is clean and bollywood songs always playing inside the restaurant. My personal favorite is Kottu Prata. Many food choice have for Veggies and also for non veggies.

Very good south Indian food. Specially chettinad cuisine. We have liked the lamb chettinad masala very much, it was awesome with butter naan. Pls do not try chicken lollipop, its a disaster. All south Indian dishes are very good. Nice ambience and staff by the way...

One of the few good halal fish head curry. Curry was flavouful. Fish was fresh. No fish taste. Bowl is big. Value for money. Big servings. Kashmir naan is nice. Nvr seen this in Singapore. Was serve by Mr Kaipesh Patil. Very friendly and very accomadating. Patience man. Check on our food arrvied or not. Highly Recommended. AAA+++++++

Its become our regular place to get quick fix for Indian food. We love the naan and prata options. My personal favourites are the Tosai/Dosa and the Lamb Briyani. Never fail to impressed us. Lol! Thanks!

Food and Service is splendid! Our server was very friendly and courteous, he makes sure that the food is well and taste great, which indeed, it does taste awesome. The fish head curry had perfectly cooked fish, with a gravy that is neither too spicy nor salty. The tandoori chicken is tasty yet pairs well with its mint sauce. Perhaps the most basic yet tasty part of the meal was the basmati rice, tasty on its own, it pairs well with the curry, not to mention it is free flow (with generous portions). Despite all, the most ironic dish was the fried lady fingers with chilli, textured like kettle chips, the lady finger is made tasty yet retains the original flavors of its vegetable.Sakunthala restaurant is a great place where small-large groups of hungry people can head to to indulge in Indian Cuisine at affordable prices. A place of excellent service and cuisine, I would definitely head back for more in time to come.

Located along the Race Course Road, this place is 5 mins walk away from the Little India MRT station. Parking can be rather tricky, I would advise to park at the HDB Parking behind the restaurant.We had a reservation for 14 pax for dinner. The food were some hits and misses. The naans were well prepared but the butter chicken was sadly bland. The curry fish head, mutton and cottage cheese were well prepared too. We also found the mango lassi bit too sour for our liking.Overall moderate Indian food. Do try their naan and fish head curry! Also great service by the staff. Responsive and attentive.

The ambiance is great!The food is great!The service crews are accommodating..But the foods are too spicy for my taste..Im sure spicy lovers out there will love this place!

Serving south indian & chinese cuisine, Sakunthalas at Race Course Road is a trusted brand, having been in business for decades . They have other outlets as well as a catering service.

An average Indian restaurant. Lavish interiors and clean restaurant. Good ambience. Friendly staff and relatively fast service. Food wasnt so good, though. The apallam was extremely hard for some strange reason. Chicken biriyani was ok, rice was quite flavourful but certainly not the best biriyani Ive tasted. The boiled egg in the biriyani wasnt cooked well. They offered extra rice and extra apallam. Chicken 65 was good, it was soft and flavourful. Gobi Manchurian was not up to standard, the cauliflower was coated with too thick a layer of flour, and the gravy was not bland. The mutton rogan josh(pronounced as rogan roshwas nice, the mutton was tender and the gravy was spicy. Naan was nice and soft but rather small. The kulcha(the one that looks like naan but with the green leaves on themdid not taste anything like wheat bread and was exactly like the naan. Though these are all North Indian dishes, there was a touch of South Indian taste in them. To sum it all up in sentence, the restaurant looks better than the food it serves.
