Sun-lit Japanese outpost featuring conveyor-belt sushi rolls & classic dishes in a relaxed setting.
Unfortunately this place didn’t survive pandemic. They closed their doors in June 2022.It was the best place for sushi. Such a tragedy :((
Very fresh, great staff, and interesting dishes. One of my favorite stops in San Francisco. I don’t usually look for affordable with sushi but this establishment never disappoints.
Not open during specified opening times. Be careful about coming here.
I loved it ! The food is awesome and the service was great too.
My favorite sushi place. Pretty cheap and very good stuff
Hands Down the best sushi place left in the city. I have lived in SF my whole life and this is the last standing Gem. Great fresh fish, amazing customer service, the prices are fair and so are the portions. I would give it 10 stars if I could. If you are craving sushi and you aren’t trying to spend $20 in one roll. This is your place!Edit:Since covid things have changed a bit; the boats are no longer available but the highlight here is that the menu (price based on the color of your plateis still the same! :)Dine-In & to go orders available.Comes support your local businesses that legitimately deserve your money.
Was turned down and yelled at for having a service animal and refused service. Thats against the American with disabilities act. I asked to speak with the owner/manager and the woman screamed for us to leave. Didnt ask for any information just immediately refused us the moment we stepped into the establishment. That is discrimination against people with disabilities flat out.
Absolutely the most disgustingly rude service Ive ever experienced. Refused to seat a disabled woman with her service dog. When told that was illegal, she said, "I dont care". Had a screaming match with customers in front of the entire restaurant. Ive never seen anything like it. Im so appalled. I would never ever go back, regardless of the food. Shameful discrimination!!
Im sorry to report that the boats are still not floating. I hope they come back soon.Overall the sushi here is surprisingly good and the sushi boat size portions are incredibly cheap. They have massive beers for $6 too which is nice. It definitely gets a little more expensive if you buy the specialty rolls, but can be done very cheaply if thats what youre going for.Even though the sushi is good, theres a smell in the restaurant that kind of smells like pee. A little off-putting at first, but I powered through and was glad I did. Ill just be getting takeout next time I get my sushi from here.
We love this place. The sushi is so fresh. We come here almost once a week.
Quality went way down. Like unacceptable down.Spicy tuna nigiri had hard fish like it was sitting out for hours.Tempura is not cleaned. The shrimp have that black poop trail inside. Maybe farm raised shrimp. The tempura batter is soggy like double fried.Restaurant is sticky all over. Like the plastic on sushi bar is sticky and dirty. The sushi boat river has murky gross water with the evaporation rings around the edges.Really a filthy experience.
What every family needs: an unpretentious spot for super-fresh sushi prepared expertly and promptly by friendly staff. Our family ordered takeout sushi, chicken teriyaki and tempura shrimp and veggies, and everything was top notch, at very non-SF prices! Grab a couple bottles of Moscato at TJ’s on the way back to your home or hotel, and you have an awesome meal. 30 minute street parking for takeout was abundant and easy.
Its a bit of a "hole in the wall" - but the sushi here is really good and they probably had the best gyoza Ive ever had! I hope they get the sushi boats up-and-running again soon because that would have made this place near perfect
The service here is wonderful. I miss the boats but will keep coming in hopes that they will have them circling around as before. My family enjoys sitting at the bar even without the boats floating around, they are just stationary in the water for now. Some of our favorite rolls are the Aztec, Godzilla, and Jalapeño rolls. We also enjoy their crab claws and fried ice cream.
A bit too much rice on the salmon lover rollThe Nigri had good proportion. Next time Ill probably just get that instead of rolls. Was disappointed that they dont have fatty tuna and no sushi boat (given COVID?)Bathroom wasnt very clean.
Excellent choice if you love sushi!! And the place is decorated like a real Japanese sushi bar. I loved my experience there!!
Prior to the COVID era this was our staple sushi boat place in the city. We look forward to the day when it returns. Til then you can still find reasonably priced well put together sushi and sashimi here.
Great options! Tasty sushis and rolls. They have great deals at fair prices. Quick service even tho it’s busy.
This place is a classic. Due to COVID, its sad that me and the fam cant do the things or go eat to places like we used to before. And this place was one of those. The food and atmosphere is so warm and comfortable. And it is extremely good food. Hopefully this place opens up soon. But again, weve been going here for 3 years and we never change!.
Take some time and enjoy the great staff and incredible sushi at this San Francisco treasure. Rumor has it that Sakana Bune will be open for to go orders on August 1st. 2020. Personally I can’t wait and you shouldn’t either. Let’s keep a locally owned and staffed business going while satisfying our tastebuds! Yum, yum yum!!! Bring on the Lion King and Honey Walnut rolls!!!
Oh wow, super fresh sushi from floating boats. Also alacarte menu is amazing, and dont forget about mochi dessert! When choosing a sushi from floating boats its to tell the price from the color of a plate. Those range from couple bucks up to $5 per plate, for example for oysters.Very popular place among locals, but I dont mind driving from my home for 30 minutes for this great sushi! 🍣
Nice little sushi bar with boats circling the chefs. Pick your plates as they go by. Most plates under $3, so you can get a very quick meal without spending much.
This is my favorite sushi spot. I love conveyor belt sushi! My girlfriend and I live nearby so we go here a lot and I always spend too much money because I grab too many plates and cant stop eating - its all too good! I always leave very stuffed and happy. When I came in shortly after the new year, they gave me a 2020 calendar which I thought was very nice.
I love it because its close to home. Pretty decent in terms of price, but can be hit or miss in the variety or freshness. Be mindful of what you pick, so you dont get something that has been sitting for awhile. Also, there is a minimum limit for using a credit card, so if you eating less than $20 (I am not sure, might be $10), bring cash.
Sakana Bume is a nice place with variety of sushi choices. It has about 2-4 pieces on the plate and those plates are going in the circle on the wooden boat. Sushi is delicious, but make sure that it is fresh (I would suggest to come on Friday or Saturday, when they are busy and they are making more). Now, service. Service there is really bad. That place is all about quantity, not quality. You will be seated so tied to a next person that you have to be careful with your movements. Waters can drop your purse from a chair and even not say sorry. And if you get something not fresh and would ask to change it, you will be yelled at (dont hope that manager will be better, their manager Rachael will be the first one to tell at you and give you attitude). With all being said, no more then 3 starts, because the service is important and that place have service like in McDonalds.
Good sushi at a reasonable price. My son and I enjoy the boat delivery system. That said the 4 stars are for overall experience, not quality of food.
Absolutely amazing. Lots of choices at really great prices. Everything we picked off of the boats was delicious and the options were rotated very frequently. We also ordered a chicken dish that was very good, it came with soup and a salad. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. This place must be popular because there was a line waiting out the door. Totally satisfied with our decision to stop at this location.
My husband and I love this sushi boat restaurant so much. Snobs will not find the fanciest sushi, but everything is delicious and there is a good variety that comes around. Its a fun place to grab a quick lunch since there is no wait for food, once seated. Parking is difficult in this area around mealtimes, so we usually go later in the afternoon.
Lovely food and atmosphere, friendly staff and price is reasonable. Highly recommended!!Not sure how my blowfish friend is feeling. The fisherman has intentions.
Went there for a birthday celebration, havent been there in about 12 years... Looks. Exactly. The. Same. Please spend a bit of money upgrading your decor. Your awning alone is driving customers away at how dirty it is.Food was decent, so you still get 4 stars.
I had a very good experience here. Although finding a parking spot was a challenge, the sushi definitely made up for it! There were a lot of sushi varieties, and the staff were nice and attentive.Unfortunately it was also a bit hard eating here as I would get slightly dizzy from looking at sushi rotating quickly. I did like the presentation of the sushi on the boat and would recommend it to those who like a more interactive way of eating sushi.
For a quick, inexpensive bite the sushi is okay. Have to look closely though because some of it stays on the boat way too long. I like my unagi freshly warm so appreciate that custom orders areaccepted.
This is the greatest, awesome sushi place Ive ever been to!!! It is fresh and the whole point is that the sushi is on a boat and you grab what you like! Really good rolls, although it is pricey!!!
Really good food and the place is cool. Its like pastelaria dos japoneses. Thats my opinion:try aztec and Phoenix.
Tight seating, but the food is great. Not very expensive. The revolving display of the sushi/sashimi is a series a cute little boats! Friendly and attentive employees as well.
The sushi is nothing special but for the price is a really good deal. The staff and the place are ok but taking the food from the boats is a really nice concept in my opinion. What really stands out in this restaurant is the tempura , very tasty and crunchy and really not to oily.
1st time at a sushi boat restaurant. Sat at the bar with my partner and we loved it. Watching the chefs work while the boats pass by with a good variety. I was pretty hungry so the bill got lil bit high. Recommending it!
Great little sushi place especially if you are in a hurry. The sushi just keeps coming out one boat after another.Tastes pretty good though some do look like they have gone by once too often. If you don’t want the sushi you can order some fried items as well. They have beer, wine and sodas too. A few tables but most seating is along the counter in front of the boats. If you have never been to this type of restaurant, what are you waiting for. Gotta try it at least once.
Went here with a friend on Saturday night - didnt realize it was a place with floating sushi! everything was delicious and fresh and I love to be able to try a little bit of everything. the staff was friendly and the service was very efficient. Our table had some of the floating sushi, tempura veggies, special rolls, and chicken and rice. Everything was great!Note - you do have to sign in and wait to be seated. so be patient and enjoy!
Pretty good sushi! Service is pretty basic, but the pricing is pretty good for sushi.
Lots of variety for a reasonable price. This is one of those sushi boat type restaurants. I love the fact that you can see what each item is before choosing to put it on your plate. Although sometimes the sushi that floats by looks a tad dry/old. But you can always skip the ones that you dont like and/or ask for the chef to make you one instantly.Ive been here twice now and both times Im always surprised by how reasonably priced this place is. And I left both times satisfied.
My favorite restaurat! Its a Sushi bar, so you sit by the bar and you take your plates from boats that go in front of you. Thats great because you dont have to wait for your orders. They have great prices and super tasty sushi. If going Friday night or any other rush time, reservations are recommended!
Wonderful boat sushi! You (as a customersit around a table full of sailing little boats filled with sushi. There are different types of sushi for different costs. I enjoyed it here and Im sure many people will too!
Absolutely love this place. Sushi is delicious and very reasonably priced, you can eat immediately when you sit down, and the waitresses and chefs are the nicest of any restaurant I have ever been to! Excellent customer service. If you have never been here, do yourself a favor and stop in for a great meal!
This is our go-to place for everyday sushi. I cant even tell you how many times weve gone to Sakana Bune. They know us and are sure to catch up with us on whats going on. I love the boats, the staff and that the wait and prices are reasonable. Depending on when you go, say early lunch, the selection on the boats is more limited, but be sure to request what youve got a hankering for and theyll make it for you.
Very tasty and fresh rotating sushi! The only downside is it is slightly pricey compared to other ones around the bay area, but for within the city its fairly good! Parking in the area is a bit annoying during peak hours on a weekend.
Sakana Bune is my go-to sushi spot in SF. Its the quickest cheapest while being tasty and of high quality sushi bite in town. Well, the quality can be questionable from time to time, but this is 2015, and there are no real fish left anyway. I live in Excelsior and I make the trip all the time. Also staff are friendly and generous. Also the large Sapporo for 4.50 is a sweet deal.
Guys, guys, guys. BOATS! There are literally boats on water here! Its not a sushi conveyer belt restaurant that calls itself a sushi boat restaurant to be chic.My review is biased because Ive been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl. Its good for some things: sushi beginners, fake-crab+mayo lovers (they put it on almost everything here), kids, people on a budget. Its got two dollar signs, but that depends on your appetite and tastes. I can usually eat very well for under $10/person. I dont get the fancy sashimi because who knows how many times thats gone around and around.Well worth a try, if youre around, but dont make a special trip of it. Also, Friday/Saturday nights can be a bit crowded. Id recommend a different time if youd like to avoid a wait and also sit at the counter where the action happens.
I came here with my friend at 5:20 and sat inside before opening. And once it was open all the seats were filled. The sushi started to roll out and I was super satisfied with cheap sushi. They were very generous with certain types of fish like tuna. I enjoyed the quick service of the sushi boat. I definitely recommend this place for people who want some quick sushi.
I usually never go to sushi boat type places unless its a group decision.Personally Im surprised at how many highly rated reviews this place has. While the prices are definitely in the cheap range, the food is okay at best. The biggest beef I have with this place is the last (and onlytime Ive been here. At the end of the night, whatever sushi had not been eaten. They wrapped up in saran wrap to serve it tomorrow. Thats disgusting!
