Ornate, 13th-century, Gothic chapel with relics & notable stained-glass windows of biblical scenes.
Sainte-Chapelle in Le Mans
Description
The Church is so beautiful. The interior is incredible.Worth it to visit when you are in Paris. We must not queue to enter the Church because already did an online reservation. So, better if you do a reservation before coming here.Sadly we were just doing a short visit because we still must visit other places.
MoreOne of the most spectacular churches in the world. The exterior architecture is brilliant and inside you will be left with your mouth open. Discounts for students. I recommend going during the week to avoid lines. The most beautiful city in the world in terms of architecture.
MoreIt’s absolutely beautiful! I was amazed at the scenes depicted on the stained glass. A must see while you’re in Paris and is included in the Paris museum pass.
MoreWow, what an incredible historic building. When we first went in were a little disappointed, but then wait until you go upstairs! Especially on a sunny day with the light coming through the stained glass, absolutely stunning.
MoreAn amazing cathedral with the most amazing stain glass! Every panel tells a story and it’s truly stunning artistry! Prepare for a wait. I waited over an hour even with a ticket I bought ahead of time.
MoreTruly amazing visit. Be sure to get tickets and reserve a time. The lower hall is very nice but the Chapel is amazing. I could sit there all day. The stained glasses is the best I’ve ever seen and amazing it made it through the Revolution. Well worth a visit.
MoreStunning glasswork and architecture to see if you have the time to check it out! Beautiful depictions in reference to the old and new testament. Definitely come on a sunny day so the glass would shine in all its glory. We came on a Sunday and had the Paris Museum pass and were able to get to the front of the line fast!
MoreA gorgeous building to stop in and visit. Definitely recommend giving it some time to explore the incredible architecture and the beauty of it.Open during most of the day to the public except during mass.
MoreThis is one of the beautiful churches that you can visit in Paris, the main attraction of this gothic church is its arts about the Jesus life painted in the glasses, it looks too good. Whole church is grand in itself but when we busted in September 22 lot of repair works were going on
MoreGorgeous cathedral. But they are terrible about planning. The lining up was just awful but once you are inside it is truly breathtaking
MoreLine to get in was not too long, but I did go at the end of September. You do pass through security screening before entering. Once out of security screening you enter a courtyard where there are toilets on the left side. To your right you see the chapel. The Gothic style is very impressive with gargoyles and carvings on the outside. Worth a moment to see all the detail on the outside. You buy tickets inside the chapel, 17 and under are free. You first walk in the lower part of the church, which had artifacts and informational items. Then you walk up a narrow staircase to the top where you see the beautiful stained glass. There are so many stories told in the glass, it deserves sometime to sit and appreciate. Worth a visit!
MoreA gorgeous chapel in beautiful Gothic style. It does get a little busy so I advise to get tickets ahead of time. Definitely pay a visit if youre around!
MoreTheres 12 euro entry fee at this church and the queue is a lot longer and slower for those that buy their tickets on site. The church itself is amazing with its Staind window glass walls. A lot smaller than I thought after seeing pictures online but still breathtaking. Totally worth it. The tour starts on the ground floor, which is small and dark, but dont panic, the main part of the church is after a small stairs climb through the small doors near the entrance.
MoreStunning! I was in awe and Im still struggling to find words to describe this amazing work of high gothic art. People can achieve astonishing things when they put together their energy, skills and efforts and this chapel, this flamboyant fairy feast of light and color, is the most beautiful example of the upper statement, that I have seen so far.I took a few photos, but, as with words, its simply impossible to capture this experience on camera. One has to see it for oneself.
MoreRecommend purchasing ticket in advance to skip the queue. Even if you already have a ticket you are still require to queue but just shorter than others who do not have one.Took me 1 hour to tour the whole place.Highly recommend you going especially you love stain glass. Its a beautiful place to visit.
MoreWe loved the intimacy and beauty of this place. We came for the concert series at 8pm and loved the experience. Would definitely recommend.
MoreGorgeous chapel with beautiful stained glass windows. Formerly used for housing relics such as the crown of thrones, this building is now a touristic attraction and rightly so because it’s amazing 13th century stained glass windows are fascinating in seeing visuals of biblical scenes such as the passion, genesis, and the later produced rose window depicting the apocalypse.
MoreBeautiful stained glass that is still intact post -Revolution and one of the only churches where youll be able to see what the original painting looked like. Everywhere else we visited has been removed and just stale white. Just the upper and lower chapels to see, but you can spend a lot of time dissecting all over there stories on the windows. Highly recommend getting the ticket that includes the Conciergerie
MoreIconic stained glass windows throughout chapel, must see. Book the tickets online in advance to secure a time to visit for easy entry and same price as through third parties offer.
MoreIt is absolutely stunning but the number of ppl drove me crazy. It was hard to breathe there, absolutely impossible to disconnect from the world and enjoy the beauty fully. Also, seems like the administration believes that the Holy Spirits kills all the covid in the room, and let’s pray for it, what can I say….
MoreThere are two levels to cover. The lower level is beautiful but subtle and displays artefacts retrieved before the renovation and also houses the souvenir shop. The upper level is more crowded and home to the stained glass windows and statues along with the shroud. The place is beautiful inside. Tickets cost around 11€, but are free for certain groups. Its better to book them online in advance (though you might have to stand in a queue anyway).
MoreIs it beautiful? YES.Is it worth the 11euro ticket? NOPE.I cant believe I paid 11 euros to see a glass instillation building. The whole time I was I was like, is this really a church? Its so small. Thats it? Where do they hear mass in this church? Well maybe if its your first time then maybe its a "must-see". But if youve seen other beautiful churches, you might be disappointed at this one. Sorry, Jesus and mama Mary.
MoreThe church is quite small in size, but the interior is glamorous as ever! We had to wait in a long queue for about half an hour and was doubting whether the wait was worth. But the interior & the stained glass windows were just breathtaking and justified the wait. The sight it creates when sunlight peeps through the stained glasses is just beautiful. The spiral stairway to the upper level is narrow, hence you have to climb up carefully. It is a must visit place if you are in Paris.
MoreAnother gothic architecture in Paris. The chapel has 2 levels, the upper and the lower. The upper chapel houses the famed stained glass which depict tge scenes from the bible. The chapel is well-maintained. It is very serene and theres a speaker which reminds the visitors to stay quiet while inside the chapel. The lady on the reception/ticketing was very nice when I visited the monument.Highly recommended for people who are seeking gothic architecture and also for people who are fond of visiting churches.
MoreFull gothic architecture. Beautiful designed.. the tinted glass looks awsm.Need to buy tickets..Take skip the line .. as queue is long😮💨
MorePros:The place is absolutely stunning. A one of a kind vue. There is a free guide, ours was very funny and informational.Cons:The outside was under renovation (not really a con as it is only visual)
MoreLovely Chapelle with wonderful stained glass work all around. Can spend an hour or so easily in this place. There is a small shop in the ground floor selling stained glass, books & small souvenirs. There is also a audio guide available at the entrance which gives details about this Chapelles history.
MoreSTUNNING! The intricate detailed stain glass windows showing the stories of the Bible was heavenly. It honestly felt other worldly standing reverently amongst these masterpieces. I could have stayed for hours but they were closing. Honestly it was one of my favorite places we visited. Not only is the building stunning and the history interesting but it felt like I was enveloped and taken back in time with the stained glass windows.
MoreWhile you plan your trip, check to see if there are any concerts here. It was such an experience to witness gorgeous music in the chapel for a couple of hours. Not only is the room gorgeous, but sitting in there for its true purpose of reverent music and worship, was incredible!
MoreThis review is based purely on the ticketing process and lack of communication from them . We had bought the combo tickets for the Church and also the Conciergerie. They are for a specific day and time for entry and all done online. The day of our visit the road was blocked off by the Police and we were told to walk around over the next bridge. When we eventually made it near to the entrance we were then told by the Police that both places were closed for the day .My issue is that everything is done online and the tickets were sent to my email address so how difficult would it have been to send out an additional message about the cancellation. We had planned our day around these visits and traveled by metro only to find out for ourselves. My money was eventually returned of course by an automated system.
MoreHighly recommend to buy the ticket online, as this allows you to be in the faster line both for security check & for entrance. The church is small, so it’s a bit crowded. However, the glass window is gorgeous, and definitely worth a visit!
MoreIncredibly beautiful chapel in the heart of the city of Paris. Absolutely worth going to see one of the greatest examples of stained glass from the 13th century. It’s actually hard to believe it’s so beautiful from the appearance outside. If you’re in the area, and the line isn’t too long, there’s no reason not to go. Make sure you climb the stairs into the actual cathedral, not just the entryway!
MoreThe church is very beautiful from the inside, there are two halls on the ground floor and the large one on the first floor. The climb up a narrow staircase from the inside is wonderful and charming. The floor and ceilings are very beautiful. The ticket price is suitable 12€ and there is the possibility of booking online for those who do not like to wait.
MoreAs an individual who loves stained glass art, this church placed me in awe. I still recall stepping into the main church and had my jaws dropped by the sight and structures. Reading up on the history behind Sainte-Chapelle provides more insight, allowing you to have a deeper appreciation of your visit.
MoreMust visit place in Paris! Its a glorious beauty beholding the grandeur for centuries!Tickets need to be purchased online. Need to stay in line for a few minutes, after which you pass through security, then a relatively narrow staircase. Once you enter you notice that its only a single big space but for sure you will be awestruck by its beauty! The details on each of the stained glasses and the colors used are just amazing! Theres also a video display board on the side for more information.Definitely worth a visit! You exit through the souvenir room.Theres a toilet facility just outside.
MoreSimply put, an outstanding display of stained glass. Small Church compared to Notre Dame but the windows are amazing.
MoreIt is indeed one of the most beautiful Chapelle with stained glass walls and royalty filled ceiling of royal blue and gold colour. One has to climb the spiral stairs to one floor to witness the beauty of it. There is enough reading material in various languages to know about this gothic architecture built in 13th century. We visited the place yesterday ie Saturday Eve around 6pm with no tickets reserved but it wasnt a long wait. Security check at the entrance that prohibits sharp objects, etc. Sovenior shop is available at the ground floor.
MoreSainte Chapelle has some of the most exquisite stained glassworks that I have ever seen. The ground floor has beautiful interiors, but comparatively few pieces of glasswork. The upper level is a bonafide kaleidoscope of colours. However, it does get crowded so try to visit early. Be prepared for a quite extensive security check at the entrance because it’s part of the Palais de Justice compound.
MoreIf you like stained glass then you’ll love this place! Whether or not you believe in relics or if the crown of thorns they built the church for was actually Jesus’s, the architecture still boggles the mind. And as an EU resident under 25, the price is right (free). Just make sure you book tickets online with an entry time.
MoreLovely tour! Nice experience and well presented and preserved spaces! Make sure you grab the tablet guide! They have done great work to give you the feel from that era and indulge you 🥳
MoreAlthough the church itself is smaller in scale compared to others it’s interior is still beautiful. When we arrived the line was quite long and I was thinking that it wouldn’t be worth the long wait considering it was a cold rainy day. However to my surprise the line moved quite quickly. Once we entered we could see all the beautiful stain glass windows and other decor. The souvenirs they had at the bottom were all eye catching especially the circular stain glass pieces they had available, which I had to get for myself.
MoreGet tickets beforehand. Dont go if you cant manage 2 flights of tight stairs. Incredible work of art. 1 big room full of christs history.
MorePossibly the most beautiful place in Paris. You walk into a small chapel with a beautiful ceiling and incredible stained glass window, which you think is awesome. Then you go up stairs and get blown away! The entire top half of the walls is stained glass - rich blues, reds and greens. Just stunning. You need to book in advance (onlineand join the queue for your time slot. Its a small place so you may wait a ten minutes but it means you will have space in there. The area may look blocked off with police (next to the Palais de Justicebut show your tickets and theyll let you through.)You are welcome to take photos. There a public toilets before you leave.
MoreBreathtaking and worth every minute. You can purchase your ticket online or from a concierge box a few metres away from the entrance (it’s a huge yellow box - €11.90 for Sainte Chapel). I purchased the audio guide book for €3 once I got inside (I didn’t find it useful, personally). I went on a Tuesday around 2pm and it wasn’t too crowded. It’s within a large French Police/military area so the security is really high. No matter which angle you look, you’re blown away.
MoreStained glass is incredible. Bring binoculars or a camera with a good zoom if you want to see anything. Ticket office is down the street.
MoreHighly recommended. 30 minutes visit. There is a magasin inside and you can have a guide if you want. Also, I recommend to make a reservation.
MoreAbsolutely gorgeous stained glass windows. Cost was about 12 Euro per person. Its up a flight of narrow windy stairs, per usual. The inside is relatively small but the detail and stories told in the stained glass windows is amazing!!! Worth a visit for sure.
MoreWORTH YOUR TIME, I PROMISE! It was absolutely gorgeous. The first time were in Paris we didnt get a chance to see this building. I made plans to see it as soon as we booked our flight. We just happened to go on the first Sunday of the month, when admission is free. They have some pretty intense security measures to get through (at least to see a churchbut its understandable these days. The chapel itself was just gorgeous. Im sure its getting even more foot traffic these days with Notre Dame closed and I think thats great! This structure deserves lots of love! The gift shop in the lower level is definitely worth a visit. The upper level usually gets the most credit, but both levels are beautiful. For those with mobility restrictions (or claustrophobics), be aware there are pretty tight spiral staircases that take you up and down. Im frankly not sure if there are more accessible ways inside and up, but I just wanted to make that much known.
MoreThis beautiful cathedral is situated quite close to Notre Dame but can be easily overlook due to its surrounding buildings. The main chapel is just breathtaking and the stained glass is over 20m high!Attention to details is simply amazing and so is the architecture.Highly recommend!
MoreI dont know if its because theres a Paris Superior Court, you have to get a full body X-ray scan that you can only see at the airport to pass the entrance. The space between the columns of the chapel is filled with stained glass, not a wall. So it is by far the best stained glass Ive ever seen. And I think that I definitely would never see a stained glass more colorful than this.
