1704 Harpster St, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, United States, Pittsburgh
1882 Catholic chapel with 4,000+ religious relics - the largest collection outside of the Vatican.
Such a beautiful church. So cool to see all the relics.
Wow! Is place is amazing. You could feel how special it is. Definitely stay for a tour after Mass, Jill is so knowledgeable about the history.
The first church in the city of Pittsburgh absolutely stunning religious relics of the 17th century it has an amazing vintage yet spiritual feel thats undeniable 🙏
Absolutely beautiful. A must see!
Such a beautiful chapel! This chapel truly looks like a Catholic Church and not like some ugly utilitarian building. All the beautiful statues and relics make you think of the transcendent.
A very reverent place to venerate the relics of Mary and the saints. The stations of the cross are fascinating and reflective.
Spiritual, magical, relaxing. A solid hike/workout to get there if youre up to it
I was very disappointed in my experience - I felt nothing but emptiness and sadness an extreme abandonment of heart and soul. And to add to my disappointment the gift shop was unimpressive as well - it was very poorly stocked- if you truly want a religious experience then you need to visit our lady of Lebanon shrine in North Jackson,Ohio . This is one of the holiest places I have ever experienced my heart and soul are elevated and the essence of Christ is absolutely present- and the gift shop is absolutely amazing. I pray that all of you experience this shrine in your future.
This place is home to the Second most holy catholic relics which is only beat by the Vatican its self. Nice people very welcome, and they also have a gift shop across from the church .
Most beautiful church I ever seen!!
The second largest collection of religious relics in the world behind only the Vatican.Contains a piece of Mother Marys veil and Christs cross ✝️ its breathtaking
If u love the Lord, you will love St Anthony chapel.
We had both our parents funeral here! Grew up on Troy Hill.
Such a powerful, & healing place! You can literally FEAL the HEALING POWER of the Saints Relics & St. Anthony Chapel!
Such a beautiful place and great gift shop! Id highly recommend going!!!
Nice little church. Guide on hand. Would have loved to take pictures of the Stations of the Cross. Worth the visit if in the area. Nice gift shop.
A very interesting place, and if you have time definitely sit threw the conversation put on by the volunteers.
Beautiful. Worth a visit. We attended mass also.
St Anthony chapel is a "phone booth" directly to heaven, If you are truly from Pittsburgh, you will visit as well as ride an incline May God bless us all
Beautiful reliquary. The volunteer guides are very helpful and kind. Its a very peaceful place.
A wonderful place. It is the most peaceful place on earth! Well worth attending Mass there and staying for the tour.
One of the most humbling and fascinating churches out there. The most amount of displayed relics in the world and the second most in possession next to the Vatican. Worth the visit anytime you are in the Burgh!
It was beautiful, but disappointing. I thought it was very dusty and dirty. It just needs some TLC to bring the church to its natural beauty for all to enjiy!
To feel a little closer to the communion of saints was a great experience. A piece of Marys veil, true cross relics, a thorn from the crown of thorns. Worth the drive and dont forget to make a donation to help upkeep the largest public collection of relics in the world!
The most beautiful, calming place. If you need holy water, bring a small container, they do not have out due to covid, it is to the left when you walk in, next to the confessionals.
St. Anthonys Chapel has the largest collection of Saints relics outside the VATICAN, and life size wood carved Stations of the Cross. A true "Must see* for every Catholic who loves in or visits Pittsburgh!
Its a quiet place good for contemplation. The tour guide is mostly knowledgeable about the history of the place, not the relics themselves. I have been there twice, and will probably return again.
This place is a treasure. Absolutely amazing. There are no words. If you are anywhere close by, it is definitely worth the time and effort to visit! All you holy men and women, ora pro nobis!
Wow! Just.....WOW! My entire family left speechless. To be surrounded by the saints in such a tangible way is breathtaking. Even now that Ive returned home, I cant quit telling people about it. I think this is worth a special trip to Pittsburgh. You have to see it. We had pizza from the hole in the wall down the street as a picnic in St. Anthonys parking lot. Its off the beaten path but well worth the journey.
Absolutely beautiful cathedral. It has an incredible amount of relics, fill sized stations of the Cross, and a rich history. It truly is an amazing location for prayer and appreciation of Catholic beauty and tradition.
A local Catholic shrine in Pittsburgh. A must see inside. It has over 5000 relics. Only the Vatican has more. Stunning! Great museum across the street too!
The chapel is gorgeous, the tour was wonderful, and the relics are stunning! This is a very peaceful and playful place. I highly recommend a mini or group pilgrimage here!
Lovely chapel, gorgeous painted ceilings, choir loft, but thought the relics were so small and insignificant based on the size and cheap gilt frames. The statues of the martyrs reminded me of a Madame Tussauds display in a tourist area. It was a a nice experience for the 8 minutes I was there, glad I saw it, but wouldnt go back
This is a noteworthy shrine which is unassuming and hidden away. The priest who built this chapel in the 1860s collected relics in order to save them from enemies of the Catholic Faith during that time period. There are over 5000 1st and 2nd class relics at this holy site. Great guides who make the tour engaging and meaningful. Highly recommend to any Christian able to appreciate the value of relics and/or pilgrimage.
Beautiful, it was like going into a church in the Holy City! Theres even a cool lil gift store!
In recent months, I made a commitment to add Daily Mass into my spiritual routine. St Anthony’s Chapel is close to my house, therefore it made for a convenient commitment. Every time I attend, I am in awe at the beautiful rich Catholic history that sits within the chapel. Even if you are not of the Catholic Faith, I encourage you to either join us for Daily Mass or attend one of the scheduled tours. The experience will broaden your spiritual perspective and appreciation for this gem tucked away within a quiet Pittsburgh neighborhood.
This is a great Pilgrim site for the U.S. With over 5000 relics, this is the largest collection under one roof outside the Vatican. This Unfortunately there are no photos allowed inside.
Definitely should stop by and sit through the tour. So many holy relics. Catholic focused but I think other Christians would enjoy the trip.
Amazing collection of church relics. Nothing else like it in the world besides the Vatican in Rome. Docent gave a great history of Chapel and how all these relics got here from Europe.
Wow. Its beautiful and has a wonderful story about the origin of the church and everything inside. I was more than pleasantly surprised.
Words can not describe this beautiful chapel, you will be amazed enlightned and humbled. I thank the late Fr. Suitbert Mollinger for his lifes work, Im sure he ia a saint in our Lords heart.
Stop in if you get a chance! I used to live next door and would go to morning mass all the time. It has the most relics in one place outside of the Vatican and the Stations of the Cross are really nice. St. Anthonys is the standard by which I judgement other churches in terms of feeling like youre at Mass.
Amazing chapel with over 5000 relics in beautiful handmade reliqueries. Almost every significant Gospel event and Saints are represented, like being surrounded in Heaven. The life-size stations of the cross statues are handmade wood over 100 years old. Amazing that a place like this is in the US and not Europe!
A Very Holy Place in the City.Hidden in the older area of the city is St. Anthonys Chapel. The moment we entered the chapel, we can feel the atmosphere of sacredness, of calm and peace. The life-sized Station of the Cross was amazing. Too bad we were not allowed to take pictures. Going deeper into the chapel, we came into the heart of the chapel which housed 5000+ relics of Saints. While we were looking around, a lady approached us and offered to give us a tour of the chapel. She explained the story about how Fr. Suitbert Mollinger built the initial chapel to house his collection of relics. And then when he added the Station of the Cross, the original chapel did not have enough space, and it was extended to its current size. She also suggested us to visit the gift shop across the street and visit Fr. Mollingers museum on the 2nd floor. We spent some time in the chapel, praying to and with the Saints. How amazing that time was, the feeling that we were surrounded by 5000+ Saints. The reliquary of St. Anthony of Padua was very special, and was given a prominent place in a side altar. He was the Saint the chapel was named after. Then we crossed the street to visit the gift shop and the museum upstairs. We saw there some crutches from people who were healed from their ailments. For those who believe, this Chapel could be a place of healing too. This Chapel is a holy place which every one should not miss to visit. Make sure to note the Hours of Visitation which is 1:00 - 4:00 pm, but closed on Fridays and holidays.
No other place like this in the world. Over 5000 relics of the saints and hand carved life sized Stations of the Cross. A truly wonderful place to see and pray. Even more than 3 stars!
Nice Church, lots of relics that belonged to saints. No pictures though, and you will need a guide since there are no displays that explain the artifacts.
One of Americas most well hidden gems. St. Anthonys Chapel has over 5,200 Holy Relics, including pieces of the Crown of Thorns, the Holy Cross, and the table at which the Last Supper was held. Second only to the Vatican in collection of Holy Relics, you would be doing yourself a great favor in visiting this chapel once. There are tours constantly. Visit the gift shop across the street.
Wow. As soon as I stepped foot in the chapel an enormous amount of tranquility came over me. Im not particularly religious, and originally came here to do a story on the place; It was kindof disappointing that the story flopped due to their no photo/video policy and I wasnt able to visually share this greatness with others, but it was definitely understandable considering the peace of the atmosphere alone. Its something you can only appreciate first hand. I walked in and marveled at the relics, listened to the tour, and then sat in complete silence and peace for a good 45 minutes, and it was the best moment of silence Ive ever had. I consider this one of Pittsburghs most precious hidden gems.
Simple exterior, extraordinary inside. The story behind the priest, his he came across the relics, the relics themselves - everything is just amazing. There are life size wooden statues of the Stations created from wood from Bavaria - the best. Please note, that they do ask that you do not take pictures or videos. Apparently some people find it irresistible to do so, but please be respectful and do not take pictures or videos, no matter how tempting it is especially when facing first class relics from Jesus, St. Mary, St. Joseph, and the Apostles among others.
Oh wow do they have a lot of relics. The man doing the tour seemed very angry (passionatethough and at times felt like he was talking down to people or even calling everyone out for not knowing more about the church. He was still informative. Im not religious and I thought it was great. You should check it out for educational purposes even if youre not religious. Very cool place.
