Unassuming kitchen serving up Vietnamese rice, noodle & meat mains, plus lunch specials.
I ordered $40 worth of food including a ginger chicken hot pot, which was supposed to come with rice.I received pork instead of chicken- I cant eat pork. however the sauce tasted good, so I planned to pour it over the steamed rice- except they didnt give me the rice either.the banh mi was alright, but I really wish I had gone somewhere else for food because I live too far to make it worth the drive back.
Looking for some place local near home. Ive lived in the area for years and never knew this place existed until my quest of looking for pho restaurants to try out. I like to use Google for references and its hit or miss. You have to try it to figure out if its good or not. You cant go by reviews half the time. Im open minded and like to try different versions of the same thing. The look or decor of the restaurant. The sign on front of the restaurant could use repairs, but not a big issue in testing out a new place. Thats just the exterior. Interior is decent. The tables ate nicely spread apart. The only negative comments about decor is the utensils holder. Is on the rusty side. Other than that I cant complain about the place too much. Bathroom also doubles up as a supply room. Kinda weird, but sometimes you have to make do right?Down to the food. As always I like to do me pho and Bành Mi sandwich combo when available. Sand is just over $9 bit pricey, but I guess prices have gone up. I ordered the pork Bành Mi sandwich. It was very good. Tasty and no complaints about the item. Of course I orderd me some pho. I order the one with the most meats in it. Sound very good so had to try it. Didnt see tripe or tendon in the menu, so made due with what was on menu. The usually condiments came out, lime, bean sprouts and mint leaves and jalapeños. The pho came out shortly. You could smell the spices that a traditional pho should have in it. The combination of smell and I always taste the broth before I add anything to it. It was very good and perfect. Didnt have to add too much to it, just so Sriracha sauce and was good. They didnt have black pepper out which was a bummer. My new thing to add black pepper, something my nephew taught me. The only thing was was that the price point was just under $20 for pho. I think a bit steep but worth it since its convenient and nothing else around unless you hit up moms.So do I think it is worth trying. Definitely, I agree it is a hidden gem for the area that we are in. Not many pho spot around here so its it worth the stop if you dont mind spending some money. $20 and under for pho and whatever you choose to get is extra. My thoughts about this place is very positive. I definitely would return again and explore more on their menu. I definitely recommend this place. If you are near the are and want som pho or a Bành Mi Sandwich, definitely try it out. I dont think you will be disappointed at all. The flavor in the pho is very good. I dont say that lightly.
My rating is a 3.5 not a 3 due to a few issues.First and foremost, I order the S2: pho tai which is RARE steak. In my mind, one of the only things that can go wrong with this dish, is being brought out the wrong meat and that’s kind of what occurred. I was brought a bowl with soup and 7 slices of very WELL DONE meat.Since many of the other bowls call for well done meat, I can’t say wether they meant to use this for one of those or whether the steak was rare to begin with but sat in the broth too long before being brought out to me. I happen to think it’s the former, since when the lady brought it to me, I had not yet been given the sides that accompany the soup (the plate with sprouts, basil, lime, and jalapeño)- which usually comes first.Additionally, 7 slices of meat, each ~3 inches in diameter, seems like very little meat which is why I think my bowl may have been intended for one of the others that comes with well done steak along with other meats, like meatballs etc.Next time, I will ask for the steak to be brought on the side to make sure it is rare and the right amount. I don’t actually let it cook in the broth to well done, I cook it to about medium rare as I detest well done meat.Other slight annoyances, the prices listed on their website are unfortunately incorrect. Each item has increased by at least $1, in some cases (like the lunch special $2). I understand that due to inflation and from hardship during COVID, prices are going up, but I don’t appreciate a discrepancy between what is listed on the restaurant website and what arrives on the bill. They have handwritten prices over the prior prices on their takeout menu, but need to update their website to reflect these. The website also says lunch specials are every day, yet they have a handwritten sign posted inside the restaurant that says lunch specials are Weekdays (Tues-FridayONLY.Again, they just need to update their website so there is no confusion regarding prices and days.As for the actual food:The base broth taste is good: 4/5It seemed less spiced than I’ve had at other restaurants.I added hoisin, lime juice, and basil. You are given a ton of broth- way more than you need.Noodle amount: 3/5I could definitely have eaten more and have received more at other restaurantsRare steak: 2/5I did not receive rare steak. It came with only 7 small pieces.Price: 2/5$14.95 for the bowl seems a little high especially given the amount of meat and noddles I received. I wouldn’t mind paying $15 for the same amount of broth but with more noodles and more meat that is actually rare.I’m comparing this to my favorite spot in In Los Angeles (Pho Hong Longwhere you can get the a bit more noodles and meat (considered a smallwith more flavor for $12.I will be back, because This may have just been an off day for them. But It seems like mistakes may be a common occurrence. Before I was brought my bowl, she brought a chicken bowl to me, which I explained was not my order. It was in fact one of the other tables orders. The lady also brought out the wrong smoothie to one table. The girl had ordered pineapple but received mango. The lady brought another smoothie and asked who ordered pineapple, the girl said she did and that the smoothie she had been given was not pineapple but mango. The lady said no that’s pineapple and she said no, it’s mango. The lady turns to the other table and said, did you order pineapple and they said no we ordered mango and she said oh, well do you want pineapple and they said no we want mango. So then she goes back to the other table and says okay, you have the pineapple and I’ll throw away the mango.I understand it’s easy to make mistakes, but how she handled this was very poor customer service. She should have immediately exchanged the pineapple for the incorrect mango, when she found out she had given the wrong smoothie to the wrong person. The lady was very nice to me, but I felt badly for the table.
I’ve missed my pho place since I moved to the area, and this place just became my new favorite! The spring rolls were massive, and the seafood pho was wonderful!
Yea, this was really good. Perfect for a chilly day. I had their beef pho for the entree and for their appetizer I had fried chicken dumplings. Everything was delicious. I will definitely be coming back.
I was hesitant to dine in when my wife and I entered the restaurant with simple ambient. However I am glad, we trusted food quality. We ordered bunch of Vegetarian dishes and it turned out very well.
The best Vietnamese food you’ll be able to get in that area or anywhere 45 minutes from it
I just realized after coming here for close to 10-years now, I have never written a review for my favorite restaurant. The Beef Bahn Mi, Lemon Pepper Pork Chop, and Saigon Crepe are my ultimate favorites. However, the whole menu is made with love. This business is family owned and operated. A husband and wife duo are in the kitchen cooking and serving customers day in and out. Im so happy to be able to still support them after the pandemic because being a small business owner is harder than ever. If youre in the area, stop by and try their delicious food. If youre planning to travel to visit, give them a call to make sure they are open before making the trek.
I’ve been meaning to eat here since I moved from NJ, but the last time I came (Fri/Satwas very busy - so I ended up ordering take out right before the dinner rush Sunday. I am soooo happy I did.Love love love their marinated grilled pork chop combo G1 - literally comes with a mountain of rice and variety of grilled meats and a side of shredded pickled veggies + cucumber. The side soup made everything go do so fast and easy 😂It’s Soup Season so I can’t wait to go back for their pho - the selections are a bit limited, but I would love to see more additions in their menu like Mi Bo Kho or Bun Bo Hue.There’s an amazing Viet restaurant that has a larger menu in Hammond, IN; but too far of a drive for me. Hopefully in the future they will carry more menu items.
I really enjoyed their curry and pho. I hope more people visit them. Definitely a gem in the Tinley area.
Great food and a family that cares about their customers! Try it you will love it;))))
Wish I would have known about this gem of a restaurant sooner. I visited Saigon for the first time and had an amazing meal of authentic Vietnamese food, the pho was amazing, we tried 3 different kinds. If you like spicy, the lemongrass chicken was also delicious. Great smoothies too. The owner, Hong, went above and beyond to take care of us which made our dining experience there even better.
Hong is one of the nicest people I have ever met and I am so glad to have him and his family running Saigon here in Tinley. I’ve been here multiple times now and every time it’s great. I look forward to every visit.
The food ok but could have been seasoned a bit more. Had it delivered and naturally they did not bring the 2 drinks that came with the order. Oh well…
This place is the worse food I ever ate at. I got the pho it was Disgusting. When the waitress brought the pho out and seen black pepper in it I already knew it was going to be bad. I had never been to a place that had this bad off pho ever and they didn’t even have that much seasoning for u to put in it and the price was way over price for not even having any noodles in it for being a lager bowl
Wish I could give No Stars. I will never again waste my time attempting to go here. Its never open despite google maps saying they are open, as well as their own website saying they are open. No signs that say they are closed for any reason. All the lights off, looks like its out of business. Might as well remove the listing. Dont waste your time. They dont care about you as a customer.
I’ve been coming here since I was in high school. The food has always consistently been amazing, and they have been truly been doing just phenomenal even during the start of the pandemic. If I could come here every single day, I honestly would. The owners are just so sweet, and I love seeing them every time I come. Their pho just outstanding — I go downtown often and I just honestly feel that it’s nearly none to compare, and their sandwiches, too. Worth every penny every time.
Excellent!! Tried for the first time and the food tasted great. The meat was very clean and the portions were big. Highly recommend:)
Too much msg otherwise is OKOld Asian married couple working I guess onwerCleaning was OK and service was OKPho $15 experience but taste was OKAfter eating then too much msg drinking water a lotMSG makes thirtyIf you do not have msg problems you will be fine
This is one of our all time favorites!! I am picky, and loved everything I have ever tried here. The lemongrass pork chops are my go to, if I had to chose a last meal, it would be this with the salted lemon drink. I usually try things from the hubbys plate and wind up eating more than my share!! I do not like catfish, but it is delicious here! Everything is fresh, and authentic, and amazing! The service is so friendly!! We tried the Vietnamese coffee with and without condensed milk, both were amazing! Everything here is good, so many layers of flavors, so much depth, so complex yet so simple, it all works so well together!! Also, the portions are gargantuan in size, come hungry! Five stars is not enough!! LOVE this place!!
A small, but comfortable place with good food. Great customer service here in my experience! The young lady working the front brought my Take-Out to me and made sure it was correct :). I call that outstanding, these days. Ill be back when Im near the area.*Update*: 2 years later, Fall 2021 - The food is still great, and nice customer service. Theres been a small increase in price since my last review... still worth it.I didnt get chopsticks(just spoon and forkwith my last take-out order, but its not that serious, Ill just ask next time. Ill still be back. Don’t change, Saigon Restaurant!
Good food, good variety, and reasonably priced!
This place is incredible. The food is so fresh. You taste every ingredient perfectly. My food was so fresh. The sandwich I had was one of the best pork sandwiches Ive ever had. I will definitely come back and I highly recomend this place!
Ordered the grilled chicken noodles with 2 egg rolls, paid $16+ tip - very generous portion and very tasty. Just be careful it does come topped with peanuts (if youre allergic ask firstFriendly, Authentic local restaurant.
Absolutely amazing food for a fair price. Very friendly staff. Comfy spot :)
I loved this place. I had a big order and when I arrived everyone was working so hard and fast. Everything was clean and delicious. Man was so kind and kept apologizing for the wait which wasn’t even long. Overall really loved this place and will definitely be ordering again.
The food here is incredible, and the service is fantastic. The owner is very kind. He even let us try a kind of fruit that we had never eaten before because we were talking about it and he overheard. Very kind staff and amazing food.
Such wonderful tasting food and variety. This is not the first time I’ve been here. But it’s been a long time since I’ve been back. I only wish it was closer.Started with the shrimp spring rolls. Paper thin rolls with noodles, shrimp & some mint leaves. So fresh and served with peanut sauce. For the main course we had two entrees:The lemon grass pork chop served with eggs, sausages & soup. You get two very tasty and tender pork chops. Also ordered the short ribs. Served on rice. Sweet and SO good. Some of the best short ribs I’ve ever ate.We also added some iced vietnamese coffees. So sweet and strong. The service is great. It’s run by a small family who all play a role. Orders coming in via phone and walk ins. We dined in and it was great!!!
Unfortunately my experience was not memorable. Food was very average and service was slow. Would have given two star but given they did have “help wanted” sign posted, I understand a bit on the slow service.
Amazing food, friendly service, my new favorite place!
I get two orders of the pan fried chicken dumplings at least once every week. They are to die for! Prices are very reasonable. Owners are down to earth and everything is authentic. I love this place
I really like their Vietnamese iced coffee, I usually dont like sweet coffee, but the condensed milk hits different. The wide selection of shakes is pretty neat too and they have a lot of unique flavors other places dont have. The pho is pretty good, but nothing too out of the ordinary. The lunch special deals are great so make sure to try em out.
Food is really good at this place specially dumplings was one of the best I ever ate.Place is clean with fast and friendly service.
We come here so much that we’ve gotten to know the owner. He’s a great guy and takes pride in his food and business. He treats us like old friends and welcomes us each time. We love every dish that we’ve tried - from the soups to the rice dishes and everything in between. Everything is flavorful and authentic. Highly recommend!
Our first try at Vietnamese was great. The food was delicious and the server was friendly and helpful. Based on reviews here, I tried the Pho and it was great. My wife had the garlic chicken and it was deliciously spicy. I prefer hole-in-the wall atmosphere and thats what we got. Highly recommended.
I ordered multiple items for takeout and when I brought it home the mini egg rolls looked disgusting. I have been eating here for many years...back when they use to deliver, back when they used to offer walnut shrimp, etc. Its always something wrong and I keep giving them the benefit of the doubt until this time. The mini egg rolls look like no other egg rolls I have ever seen in my life...they are super burnt and also uncooked at the same time. I drove back to the restaurant and the man defended these egg rolls and said thats how we do it. This isnt true...I have ordered these before and they look nothing like this. He also refused to refund my card and handed me cash that didnt even equal the full amount with tax. I dont understand how this place has so many positive reviews...maybe Im unlucky. I went to Chens and ordered egg rolls and they looked like actual egg rolls. Id avoid this place...How can you let a customer be handed such poorly cooked food? What else are they skimping on there...Im Vietnamese and really wish there was another Vietnamese option in this area. Ive seen long black hair in my food before, stale and hard bread for the sandwich before and now this. I gave them so many chances and for the man working there to be rude, defend this disgusting food and also not even refund my order after driving back there is ridiculous. Edit - They keep removing my photo of the egg rolls so make sure you click on my name to see the photo if its missing. Thanks
First off place is clean and friendly. Pho tendon and beef was great without being too salty. Ordered two sandwiches to go . The only thing I would do differently is order my rice noodles on the side. Price was good for all the food I got. All in all a good stop even if you have to drive 20 miles. On a scale of 1 to 10 Ill give it a 9.5 only because there were too many noodles in the pho. You might like that.Update on the sandwiches...excellent. they say Vietnamese sandwiches are all about the bread. These were pretty dang good.
I love this place. Its spotlessly clean. The food is excellent quality, fresh, and authentic. The owner is always there, and hes so focused on quality that when he went home to Vietnam last year, he closed the place down rather than let someone else run it while he was gone. Ive tried Vietnamese in a lot of places, but they never seem to live up to Saigon, which is surprising since its in a pretty boring suburban location. Go here. You wont regret it.
Always an excellent experience! Pho is piping hot and the broth is brewed for hours. Many varieties of meaty pho’. Spring rolls are freshly made as ordered, the mini egg rolls are crispy, banh mi sandwiches are so good! Don’t forget the boba drinks and Thai tea drinks. Very refreshing! The owners are friendly. Warm casual dining 👍
Best authentic Vietnamese food ever. Shrimp spring rolls and grilled pork noodles are must-haves, delicious and flavorful. The restaurant is so busy on Sunday, but I got to sit with no wait, the waitress takes my order right away and brings out my food within 5 minutes. Impressively fast service 👍.
Delicious homemade dishes to please everyone. I cant wait to go back and try some other menu items. Their smoothies are supposed to be amazing.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience here. The young woman running the front of house is kept quite busy taking care of tables and to go orders, but never misses a beat. So cheery and personable. The food was delicious. We live half an hour away and intend to return regularly.
Absolutely spectacular food. Clean, fast, cheap, enormous portions, very friendly staff! Definitely going to try all of their dishes. 10/10
Absolutely love this place, food is excellent from the Pho to the full meat dish great flavors, the hot Thai coffee is the best... Great service, I always feels like home
This Pho is the best Ive ever had! everything was delicious! The owner is awesome and a great guy! He is a part of the experience. He makes sure his customers are taken care of and they like the food. Very, very nice! We will definitely travel the almost 2 hours to come back just to eat here!
Amazing!!! I absolutely love Vietnamese Food.. I found this place on Yelp. Decided that try it out. Excellent and friendly service!!! Food was so fresh and light tasting. I felt full but not a heavy uncomfortable fullness. I highly recommend if you have never tried Vietnamese food this place is worth the drive or wait. I’ll definitely be returning to try something new off this really diverse menu!!!
Been coming here on a weekly basis. Really clutch Vietnamese and only Vietnamese restaurant around the south side of Chicago. Saves me a trip from going to argyle. Cant go wrong with any selection off the menu. I recommend the spring rolls, beef pho, grilled beef sandwich, and grilled lemongrass porkchop!!! Prices are affordable. Staff are hardworking and very nice.
Awesome Service and Great Food 😊 i would recommend this Authentic Vietnamese Restaurant.☆☆☆☆☆ all the way
This place is so good when the food came we forgot to take the pictures of the food right away. Hahaha. Authentic Vietnamese food with great flavors. Every single item we got was amazing. Please try the Vietnamese iced coffee with the condensed milk. The best we’ve ever had!
The best beef pho noodles and the best pork chop over rice, two of their signature dishes. Check this place out, a hidden gem in the south suburbs.
