Safeway in McKinleyville

Prices are always extra high here. But the quality overall is better than most other grocery stores, especially in the bakery, meat, and deli departments.

Large selection of ready to eat food.

Asking for a breakfast burrito disturbs the employees at the deli - and they let you feel it.

A lot bigger than the one in Eureka. Great produce, cards, garden supplies. Good pastries, spirits, beers, ice cream.

Kinda exspensive but we love the Safeway bread. Cant seem to walk past it. Employees are very helpful and always trying to lighten my load because I tend to shop more than I do or expected. Always helpful to load my groceries and get me safe to my car or ride. And Im grateful.

The parking lot is awful, people always going the wrong way and hella too fast

Was disappointed in the just for u coupons I added didnt come off at the cash register. If the coupons on the back of your receipt dont print .. then your just for U discount DIDNT come off at the register 🙄 😣😡

Clean store , plenty of parking, lots of sales, quality produce, shelves plentiful. However the rudeness from a deli worker in this store was absolutely uncalled for. Asking for ranch dressing to accompany the fresh salad yet prepackaged in-store and was given thick ranch made for dipping and when we ask for salad dressing instead we were told in an unfriendly yet irritated voice that "Ranch is ranch" and given an eye roll by this not such a gentleman then he walked off. I will not be ordering anything from the deli at this specific Safeway location!

This is a Safeway, no matter how dangerous it is to get here or leave here, the groceries are too expensive so often times youll see someone with s fully loaded card or even just s basket as they walk or run out the front door...

I absolutely LOVE Safeways produce department! And their bakery/deli is also superb! However, the employees that work there leave something to be desired... They dont seem to be very helpful and some seem to even resent being asked for help. Otherwise, it seems to be much like all other grocery stores in the area.

Like this Safeway a lot. The customer service guy doesnt always know what hes talking about (I ran that department for 7 yrs at another safeway). Some of the checkers are a bit uptight and excessive. Example: One lady wouldnt sell me beer because my boyfriend emptied the cart onto the belt and therfore touched the beer so she wanted to see his ID but he forgot it at home although I was the one paying (were in our 30s btwand then I had to go grab another case of beer and get in a different line! It was ridiculous. But most of the staff are really nice and helpful and the store is always clean. I also have never dealt with long lines there which is nice.

The Self Checkout Registers sometimes give me a problem. But, other than that. I would give it A 5 if the store would have more of the items from their site that are on Sale.

Pretty awesome savings when you use your club card! For example: buy two 12pack Pepsi cans, and get two free!!!! You can also mix and match with Mountain Dew and Diet. Great deal.

People in the deli were rude. I asked for sliced salami and they told me precut meat was already sliced in the cooler by the register. There was no salami, so I asked again and they were extremely annoyed they had to cut me some. I had asked politely, and it was the middle of the afternoon, not minutes before closing time. The store wasnt very busy, and there was no reason for the rotten attitude, so I probably wont be back.

Seems like its really gone downhill the last couple years. Especially since the pandemic. My main complaint is that the produce is absolutely terrible!!! Watch what you buy in the produce section. Number one, its way too expensive! And number two and most of all, it doesnt last long I put it in my refrigerator a couple days later its rotten. Literally for the past Id say year most of all the produce that I buy at this Safeway within a couple days goes bad. Also their selection of ethnic foods, such as, hot sauces, Mexican herbs, and spices. Asian foods are very limited. Which is a surprise considering this is Humboldt county. So yeah. This Safeway is meh.

Safeway is not the cheapest place but has an excellent inventory. The place is super clean and the staff is superhelpful.

Yeah this is Safeway in McKinleyville and its a fine store it has everything I need the only drawback that I see is there meat departments terrible they never have a large selection of meats I dont know if thats cuz theres a meat shortage, I dont think so Ive been to other Safeway s theres plenty of choices for meat what meat choices there are there usually thin cut I like thick cut

I Instacart shop for my fellow neighbors here. Its my favorite place to shop. They usually are stocked up on all the items needed, but ran into shipping problems around the new year for obvious reasons put of their control. The staff is WONDERFUL. Everyones helpful and friendly. Its always a great shopping experience. I love when my kids are with me, the bakery gifts them a cookie 🍪

What a clean and well organized grocery store, I found all the items on my list and with use of the Safeway app I saved 49% . And on healthy choices to boot! I shop other grocers and co-ops also, but Safeway is my mainstay.

I shop here often, mostly for produce & meat. The prices are higher than other stores, but the fruit & meat are better quality, also they are the only store in town that sells A2...

Store was nice. Well organized and lots of variety. The person who checked me out was very unpleasant. She didnt want me to put anything on belt until she was ready? I asked the price of something and she told me we will see at the end. I said I had bags she was rude about that. I would avoid her always. Never had shopped there before but after this may be my last time. Towanda would be the reason to shop elsewhere.

Incompetent, rude, and they take breaks for as long as they “feel like” then come back with attitude when it’s time to work. Hopefully this Safeway gets a better manager soon. Very disappointed in the customer service here. (Customer service desk is a JOKE)

They where friendly & it was a pleasant experience... People that just live in the north western part of California... We are always nice & friendly to newly met people... I Love it up here. The towns, rivers & the wild forest... Plus people from all over world come here To see or visit Eureka & Arcata... Humboldt County... 😎

Safeway in Mckinleyville is leaps & bounds better than the Arcata store. Arcata is always out of wipes to wipe down the basket handle with used wipes on floor. Weekends are worse. Customers not wearing masks & no one in charge it seems. Service desk is closed so no help there. I actually went in the back & found charge person chit chatting with the meat/seafood guy. There was a line of people wanting meat & couldnt get it, so they left all mad. The deli lady was running back & forth from waiting on people in deli to the sandwich making area, then ringing those people up on register, not washing hands after handling money. She did wear gloves while handling food though. She was doing the job of 2 people. The deli hot food was dried out & gross. Arcata store needs better leadership for sure! Arcata Safeway gets one star. Mckinleyville Safeway gets four stars.

Great place to shop,Always shop there, great prices make sure to use your Safeway card, thats were the price deals are great, save on gas, due to the Safeway card. They have a stars coin machine, Friendly Staff Always helpful, will find what your looking for, Fruits,& vegtables always fresh and they last.

I shop at this store frequently and am surprised that the would keep a cashier with the personality of a slug, that obviously hates his job and shows it by his attitude. I am never one to want someone to get fired or lose their job but this guy is rude arrogant and obnoxious. The next time he dumps my groceries out of the basket im going to snap !!!

Its Safeway... smaller location than most of their stores. Very cramped and stuffy in there... its quite difficult to shop and be socially distant due to the above mentioned factors.Produce section was really nice and workers are friendly and helpful.Covid protocols are in place but like I said its not most optimal place for proper social distancing.

Pretty good show. Great selection of food, even organic now. I dont go to the natural food stores these days and safeway does the trick. Baggers dont social distance but what can you do but be assertive and weird.

First of all, its an absolute conto have a club price advertised in bold letters and then to have it 3/4 higher if you dont use your card. Secondly and this is really really really annoyingif you want cash back the first thing the machine does is ask you if you want to donate all of your money to some generic charity.when I want cash back I actually want the cash back in my hand in my pocket not given to some generic charity

They do the best they can for a small town grocery store but limited healthy selections of items, a lot of times items are completely empty on the shelves. The employees are never happy to be there and prices on items are steep but hopefully because they are paying their employees well. Yikes not the most upbeat review but its what we got here in Mckinleyville

Store is an average Safeway with everything you would expect. The low mark is due the a horrible parking lot. It needed to be resurfaced years ago. Its so rough and bumpy that most people would rather try and carry 10 bags to the car over having numb arms and anything carbonated has to have a 30 minute cool down.

Home town Safeway, I love this place! I enjoy the self check out as well. As long as you dont have alcohol (I think theres one other itemyou can usually get thru the lines pretty quickly.

The employees are very rude and disrespectful! Gathering together to talk bad about certain shoppers is what I heard! Making fun of shoppers and laughing! Very disgusted!!! Have video and would like to show it to an attorney! Disgusted with almost all employees at this site, have seen this behavior all the 7 times I have been there! Very unprofessional and disgusting to deal with this kind of behavior when trying to shop, mind my own business, and support the local community!

My family and I have been shopping here for years and the cashiers were for the most part pleasant and helpful, but not so much now. There are a few, especially in the early morning hours, who come across really cold. They are nice to some customers but not to others. I have also noticed that the office managers in customer service do not like to answer any questions before 9:00 AM no matter how simple the question! I do not think that they like customers. There are still a few pleasant and helpful employees, but not like it was before.

Going to Safeway is.. well.. like going to any other grocery store. Sometimes its good and quick, other times its the complete opposite. The store does stock just about everything you need and pricing is moderate just be sure to have their club card to save some extra bucks.

This store is nice and clean. They always have an excellent selection of fresh produce. They also have a lot of gifts in floral department. Their bakery has a wide variety of goods, and they also have hot foods ready to go. Employees are knowledgeable and helpful.

Always great to see new products pop up on the shelves here. Great gluten free options and the staff is always great. Martha always has a smile and a memory that makes you know she cares about the lives of her customers.

Their hakery is always so helpful. Last time she even carried the cake out to my car, during the busy holiday season. Im disabled and have a hard time getting around. I was blown away by her thoughtfulness! The cake, by the way, was the best cake Ive ever had. Safeway bakery has my business from now on.

This is hands down the BEST Safeway in HumCo. Bread and hot deli is delicious and the choices are endless all day everyday! Their produce section makes it seem like Californias drought never happened. Go there now!

This Safeway store is really good. The store is clean. The staff is helpful and informative. It does get packed time to time. But they do have a good amount of staff. The only thing I wish that this store has is a self checkout area. Other than that. I can not complain. Its way better than the Arcata store!

Hit and miss on friendliness at checkout... Maybe just my 20 years working in smaller store, definitely some people are not cut out for the job.

Its a pretty nice grocery store. I like their fake wood flooring, it makes it more interesting than your average grocery store. Good selection of things at a good price if youre a member. Theyve got a few local items, but the selection cant match the Co-Op or Eureka Natural Foods, so if thats your interest Id recommend visiting there instead. Their prices are better than either of those places though.
