This was the best culinary experience weve had in a while and a big one for Maastricht. It is well hidden, but beutifuly simple which only adds to the experience. The menu is small but packed with flavorful dishes that you can tell were made using high quality ingredients. The humus was the best Ive ever had and the madeleines are to die for. A must! But be sure to make a reservation as it can get full rather quickly

Het is altijd gevaarlijk om te klagen over de grootte van de porties. Het is niet chique, je lijkt op een proleet, men neemt je niet serieus. Zie ook de reactie van het restaurant onder onze weloverwogen kritiek, dat alles weliswaar zeer goed op smaak was, maar dat de porties te karig waren for sharing. In de veelzeggende reactie refereert de restaurateur naar de Mc Donalds. Tsja.Nu hoef ik hier niet te bewijzen dat we er heel wat gastronomische proefuurtjes op hebben zitten, als particulier en professional. Het heeft niet met ons budget te maken. Misschien hadden we het advies niet goed begrepen, want de bediening was niet de meest aandachtige, maar wat wij hoorden was per persoon twee gerechten te bestellen. De porties waren niet geschikt voor sharing - de Braised Lamb (16,50was hooguit veertig gram - en de grote portie manti betrof 9 kleine deeghapjes (handgerold, ja logisch, dat zijn ze altijdvoor 30,- - vergelijk dat eens met de fantastische khinkali bij Batoni in Amsterdam, die maken zelf ook nog het deeg, rollen alles ter plekke - kreeg niet de indruk dat dit hier het geval was, leek opgewarmd. De yoghurt en de sumak werden wel met veel theatraal vertoon geserveerd, was ik niet zo van onder de indruk. Andere mensen misschien wel. Ik vergelijk het expres niet met Cedars of Marres Kitchen, omdat de presentatie bij Safar en de smaakbalans zeker bijzonder is, ik snap de bedoeling wel, maar dit is je verschuilen achter exclusiviteit. Niet een kleinigheidje bij de koffie, al is het maar een brokje maamoul. In die details zit gastvrijheid. Safar is het type restaurant dat uitstraalt dat je als gast heel blij mag zijn dat je er zit (als je het om te beginnen al hebt kunnen vindenin plaats van andersom. En dat is een vibe die altijd zeer in de smaak valt bij snobisten, maar op den duur verveelt. Oh, en alle lammeren (en jonge schapenkrijgen naast het gras ook graan gevoed. Niets bijzonders.

Extremely delicious Mediterranean food inspired by Libanese home cuisine, utmost friendly owner taking plenty of time with the guests to share information on the dishes, the background of the restaurant etc. Commercially smart as well but in a very open and honest way without being pushy. We felt extremely welcome - worth a trip in Michelin terms 😉

Outstanding food, peaceful atmosphere bc of the beautiful decor, and such a lovely host. We had a wonderful night and will most definitely return when we’re back in Maastricht.

Little piece of heaven right in the middle of Maastricht. Warm ray of sunlights, food that take you back to the warm hearts of Lebanon while surrounded by an architectural piece of tranquility. We had an amazing lunch here... the herbal tea brought back from Beirut was delicious, and each of the dishes we ordered were amazing - particularly the warm pita bread and hummus, and the crispy cauliflower. Some of the best Lebanese food weve had outside of Lebanon!

GREAT FOOD. Absolutely love the dishes, the staff is very thoughtful and friendly. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and the love for details.

New amazing little Lebanese place in town! A table of 6, we could try almost all the dishes of its eclectic menu. The quality of the produce and the distinct subtle flavors behind every preparation were real delight. I recommend the hummus with the melt-in-your-mouth slow cooked veal, the charred crisp cauliflower, the slightly spicy mouhammarah, the classic salads revisited, and the tender roast beef. The service was warm and attentive. A lovely meal to go back to, and you can wash it all down with plenty of good arak, and leave gently tipsy and very satisfied…

Good food, great atmosphere and perfect service. Very fresh and tasty dishes for both meat, fish lovers and vegetarians. Accompanied by a great list of beers and wines. Make sure you leave room for some Lebanese sweets at the end. Especially if you like sharing dishes this is your place to go, absolute recommendation.
