Longtime, 15-acre animal park housing native & endangered species, plus a giraffe encounter exhibit.
Well maintained and most of the animals were awake and active. Giraffe feeding was so fun!
Nice clean zoo , lots of animals and trees . Free parking along the street . They sell alcohol. The red pandas were my favorite.
Good variety of animals, the enclosures are nice, and the place is pretty clean. The park isnt very large, so its pretty easy to see everything in about an hour and a half
Went during the week, not that many people. No wait to get into the zoo. Most of the animals were still out and my son and I got to see them all. First time at this zoo and it was really clean, and all of the staff specially the train conductor was super nice. My son loved that final train ride right before they closed.
This is a small zoo but there are some unique animals here. Currently all of the birds are locked away to protect them from bird flu. Lots of shade to keep you out of the Cali sun.
It was a little disappointing to arrive when they opened in order to avoid the heat and find so many animals unavailable. No Chimpanzee, No ardvaark, No Zebra, No Flamingo, No Emu, No crowned crane. Granted a lot of the birds were quarantined/ not available due to precautions regarding bird flu but the rest were just Missing. No notices. No explanation. Just not there. To avoid this, I suggest calling the Zoo before your trip and ask exactly what animals are and are not on exhibit and when the best time to visit for a full experience is.The Zoo also did not hand out maps or have any available that I could see. Print your own, because I for one was lost without it.Otherwise it was clean and relatively quiet for a Wednesday morning.
Small and on the least varied of the zoos that Ive visited but compared to a few other Zoos that I have visited it actually had most of the exhibits with animals and not just empty exhibits like a few other zoos. Would probably visit again as my child grows older.
It was the 1st time taking my family there. No wait at entrance. $14 for kids 2 - 11. $21 for adults. We really enjoyed seeing the giraffes next time we will be there early to feed them!!
My kids and I really enjoyed the Sacramento Zoo! They had Cheetahs and they were so beautiful! Also, most of the animals came up close, so we got some pretty good pictures!
This was my first time visiting the zoo and I really enjoyed it! It was a pretty hot day but seeing all of the different animals was worth it! I was surprised at the amount of diversity that this zoo had. My favorite part was seeing the giraffes. They were the cutest and the best part. It was a nice little day trip :)
This was a great smaller zoo with lots of natural flora and fauna that lines the paths and enclosures. We got there right at opening so all the animals we being fed while it was cool. Really a nice variety of animals. Lots of benches and a play area for younger kids. Our family did the Animal Ambassador along with the Hooves and Horns behind the scenes tour. Both were amazing and involved endangered animals. The tours behind the scenes are a must! Chris and Jennifer were wonderful to work with to get both tours done. Would recommend it to anyone whom has a love for animals! Tip: Order tickets ahead to save a few bucks.
We visited the zoo on a Friday afternoon and had a good time. If you walk fast the whole trip can be done in a couple of hours but you can take your time and make a full day.
First visit to the Sacramento Zoo, really enjoyed the No line wait to enter the park, bought the tickets in advanced with the special entry time which worked out great. The zoo itself was very clean and well maintained, unlike most other zoo’s I’ve visited this zoo was small but it was filled with lots of medium to small animals in plenty amounts which gave me my money’s worth. The zoo did not have larger animals other than the giraffes due to the size but as I mentioned before you will see a lot of them, I would definitely recommend as a half day event since you can finish the zoo in around 2 to 3 hours…great times
Kids love it. During weekday we found free parking across the road. Zoo has play ground cafe and separate snack shop.
This Zoo will always hold a special place in our hearts because this was our son first Zoo visit. He is 15 months and loved it! Its a small, but there is a lot to see! We walked the entire Zoo in about 2 hours. We had reservations for right when the Zoo opened and were leaving around 11:15. We paid to feed the Giraffes, and that line was maybe about a ten minute wait, nothing crazy. Our son was fascinated and enjoyed it! He also got to see the Lion’s active and walking around and roaring!! What a treat! We were bummed out that we couldn’t have a souvenir to add to our collection of Zoo maps from other places, you have to take a picture of the map and look at that to guide you, which is a bummer for us since we aren’t attached to our phones. We wanted to get a photo strip in the little booth they had, but the wait was long, and that was the only one we saw throughout the park. Maybe next time! We didn’t have any snacks or anything, and didn’t see any stands open while we were walking around, just the bigger restaurant toward the end of our Zoo Trip. What was really a drag was the Zoo doesn’t offer a military discount for tickets or within for food, shopping etc. We did find it pretty absurd that the hoody we bought for our son was more expensive than our admission for the Zoo. But we enjoyed ourself and will always remember our first Family Zoo Trip and we will be back. Thanks Sacramento Zoo!
What a great small zoo! If youre there just to see animals, do you best to come when its not so hot so they arent all sleeping. But you can easily see everything in like 2 hours. The cheetahs and red panda were super cool, dont think Ive ever seen those anywhere else. Food can take a long while at the cafe so order online
Bought tickets online for Mother’s Day, and it was a great day! It probably took four adults about two hours to get through the whole zoo, including stopping to sit down for a pretzel. It’s well-kept, and animals look well cared for as well. Would recommend!
We came specifically for the Dinosaur Safari and were not disappointed! It was super fun to spy them throughout the park. Plus we loved all the regular inhabitants too! The carousel was the perfect ending to the day!
First time visiting the Sacramento Zoo in a few years. Quite a nice change. Exhibits are more lively and attractive. My 4 year old daughter enjoyed herself. We bought a membership which I highly recommend if your planning on going a few times a year.
We had fun but this zoo was very disappointing compared to others. Dirty and lots of empty cages. Looks like they might be short on staff, which is why the grounds seemed "dirty". We moved here from South Dakota and were just surprised that the zoo in Sioux Falls, SD was much cleaner and had more animals. We bought an annual membership but overall we were just disappointed. We will return as it is the only zoo around but there is room for improvement. The kids loved the Giraffe feeding. Picture of us prior to feeding them.
We paid for a private tour. My daughter got to feed some of the animals and learn about how things work at the zoo. She loved that experiance. We became zoo members so we get to go all year long which has made it well worth it. She loves animals and we love the zoo. Plus if you become a member you dont have to wait in lines .you get discounts on stuff and special event invites. But if you do go i advise to buy tickets online ( discount in costand you can bring your own lunch to save money. I usually bring a backpack purse with some water bottles. Money. phone .small ice chest i leave in my car . And were good to go stamp your hand on way out to come back in when done.
What better way to celebrate Earth Day than at the Sacramento Zoo?! The weather was perfect and the animals were enjoying it as much as the humans. Oh, and the dinosaur exhibit was great!
Amazing Zoo. The cheetah Brothers are stunning and the Giraffe feeding is worth the experience and these are some of the most conditioned Giraffes Ive ever seen. Cool layout too. Nice area outside the Zoo also. Well done Sacramento!
Bought family membership online before coming to park. Skipped a decent Tuesday line to go straight in the members entrance. Dino Dan exhibit going on at the park right now. Many of the animals were active and looking around.
My family of 9 had a great time at the Sacramento Zoo today. Some of the exhibits/habitats were a bit small (Lionbut hopefully when they move to Elk Grove, the animals will have more space to roam. All in all, it was a nice half day trip.
I havent been here in over 20 years but the kids and I enjoyed our time. Most of the animals were lively and visible. There was enough variety for the kids to enjoy the whole experience. This was their first zoo trip and there were enough places to see and it wasnt too much of a walk for them. My son enjoyed all the dinosaurs that they put all over the zoo. Seeing him in awe over the very large scale reptiles was enough for him.
It was fun! Our 3 year old granddaughter loved it! I recommend hiring more interactive joyful train operators. Both train drivers didnt even smile. They looked so miserable like they hate their jobs.
It was a good experience. It was a nice walk to see all the animals. I especially liked looking at the Red Panda. I enjoyed watching the new kids movie about the Red Panda. All the animals look like they had a good amount of space in there living area. Good selection of food and snacks. Need more sitting benches. It was a Great day with my boyfriends family.
The dinosaurs 🦕 were such a great addition. My granddaughter (18 mojust loved them. We went early so a lot of the animals were still being tended or just plain didnt feel like hanging out in the cold. Despite that she still had a blast as did the adults. The giraffe feeding doesnt open till 10 which is about when things get busy. There is a full service restraunt, gift shops, strollers you can rent, restrooms, snack cart offering 😋 sweet treats. There is also a train that will take you thorough the zoo and a carousel 🎠There is also a playground *quite large for being in the zoo and picnic areas
The carousel was a nice touch, but at least one time, on the house, with purchasing of tickets on line seemed highly appropriate. We still had fun.. wouldve liked to see bears as well..When I was younger there were polar bears, and penguins. Also, my son and grand-daughter really enjoyed the dinosaurs 🦕 and the animatronicks.
Always a joy to visit this zoo. Ive lived in the are most of my life and was able to share the experience with out of town family. Purchased tickets online and skipped the line. The cheetah exhibit is where I remember the kangaroos being, they must have done that fairly recently. The cafe has a vegetarian option, but I was told that its wasnt too good. The chicken sandwich and the Peruvian chocolate brownie was good though! Lots of seating available, and a well stocked gift shop. A definite must-see if youre visiting the area!
This was a wonderful experience and we will be going back in the future with some of our other grandchildren for sure.everyone was very friendly.
This is such a great zoo. Very well kept up and an amazing display of animals. We are season pass holders and go several times a year. It never gets old.
This zoo is so cool! Love the dinosaur displays throughout the zoo. They also move around. The animals are super cool. Loved the giraffes, zebras, chimps and many more cool animals. My boyfriend and I will definitely come back.
We had a nice time however many animals were not there. Prices seemed to have gone up my advise is buy days in advance the price are lower if you buy advance.
Very lovely place to go in Sacramento when youre visiting Ive been going since I was very young and the staff are really welcome the animals are all very well taking care of and the location is amazing its also next to two other very lovely day trip places fairytale Town and funderland the cafe at the zoo is very delicious as well I would definitely suggest the french fries or the nachos and if you plan to returning the future to visit definitely pick up one of their lovely souvenir cups as long as you have it free refills for life the gift shop is very nice too and has lots of souvenirs that really connect you to the animals and the zoo itself five stars for me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
I has a wonderful experience, I wish I could share more details. I really enjoyed myself, I havent been to the Sacramento Zoo in a very long time. Its been over 20yrs since the last time I was here and its still exciting.
Sacramento Zoo is a great place to go! It’s typically not very crowded, and has a good assortment of animals to enjoy for a smaller zoo. Come towards zoo feeding time and you will be sure to experience seeing most of the animals out in their pens. I’ve been coming to this zoo since I was a young child and it hasn’t changed much, which I like. Fairy Tail Town and William Land Park are right across the street. Bring your kids or grandkids here for a fun day!
It was fun and some cool animals. The kids where able to feed a giraffe. They had a bunch of animatronic dinasours that the kids loved. Food was very expensive and only had a couple food options at the snack stations, they had hotdogs or nachos. Wish they had easier snacks like corn dogs, pizza, or chicken strips. The Restaurant had a line out the door so we didnt go, ended up eating in town. Overall fun zoo with lots to look at and cool animals. Only animals they didnt have that the kids wanted to see where an elephant and penguins.
Lovely local zoo resides at the Oakland hill! The zoo has low floor and high floor, which is connected by the sky tram. From the sky tram you can see the whole San Francisco bay. That is the most attractive sightseeing from this Zoo! The zoo doesnt have many animals, but it is great for a family for a day trip. We came here on the first day of 2022. We had a great family time here! We will come back definitely.
Was an awesome trip, They have a bunch of dinos around thr park that move and make noise and have plaques with info about them. MY daughter LOVED it.The food was so good, a bit pricey in my opinion but not horrible...the pizza was probably the best bang for your buck and it was so good! Cant wait to go back, we bought memberships since it only cost us like 40 more dollars and now we can come back all year and after just 1 morr visit we will have got our moneys worth.
Wonderful family experience. Picnic area near the carousel. Animals are clean, well cared for and look happy. Staff was wonderfully nice and shared knowledge of the animals with us. Food is available at snack bar or restaurant. We were able to bring sandwiches and drinks but also enjoyed the snack bar.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Pretty big zoo. We all enjoyed watching the animals, the kids enjoyed them alot. They have mechanical dinosaurs, they make noises and move around alittle bit. They seem realistic and the kids were excited about that. The kids loved the zebras and giraffes. Everyone had a great time.
Decent zoo with several exhibits. They do have some activities for kids such as carousel and train ride. There is also a small playground for children. There are some snack shops and at least 1 place that you can order food. You can also purchase coffee and hot cocoa. There was no wait for admission and the staff is very friendly.
We went to the zoo it wasnt overly crowded which was surprising as we got there at 1pm and we enjoyed walking around all the exhibits checking out information and animals we stopped to eat at the cafe such delicious food!! We definitely want to come back again soon!! We even saw I think turkeys outside when we left!!
Sacramento Zoo is a small non-profit zoo. Although it is small and doesnt have a huge assortment of animals the facilities are always clean and the staff always knowledgeable and friendly. There is a fair amount of outreach and education the zoo provides as well. Its smaller size is a benefit in many way as it is has a more intimate feel and at the right times you can see the animals up close without throngs of people smashed against you. Great place for families with younger kids, and they seem to be trying to expand and grow as the greater Sacramento region grows around it.
A really fun time, very family friendly, lots of places to sit down and chill out and many pathways that make it easy to navigate the Sac zoo and also safely, socially distance from others. Masks are required. Bathrooms are public and scattered throughout, and the zoo itself has gift shops, and places to eat as well.If youre looking for something to do and see some really incredible animals, this is the place.
We really like this zoo because it is just the right size for our 4 and 6 year old. Not too big, that they get exhausted walking around and not too small that we get through it in 20 mins. They really enjoyed seeing all the animals especially the lions who were pretty active when we got there. There is a small playground there now that our kids really enjoyed and they were able to play and have snack time there. It wasnt crowded at all and we went on a weekday.
Way cool place. Plan 2-3 hours to see everything. Reasonably priced food that is actually real good. Easy to find way around. And animals are often visible and cared for. Kids love the experience. Easy to find from freeway. Parking is a bit tricky but manageable. Overall very worth it
It was a great experience, everything was nice and tidy. They have a small amusement ride and a train ride. A gift store, snack place, and small restaurant. The staff members were very sweet and understanding. Id recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to a zoo to see animals.
