Very beautiful museum on the Bosphorus in one of Istanbul’s fanciest neighborhoods, the museum used to be a Palace for the Sabanci family before its conversion to a museum, it exhibits the expensive belongings and furniture of the palace in the main pavilion along the works of the most famous Ottoman and European painters, most notably the section of Osman Hamdi Bey, it also has a very beautiful section for the Arabic calligraphy and contains really important and beautiful artifacts from the Ottoman era.And i was lucky enough to see the exhibition of works of Sultan Abdulmecid II in a very beautiful gallery dedicated to the life of the last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, the exhibition ended today and unfortunately taking pictures in wasn’t allowed in Sultan Abdulmecid section, i only managed to take a couple of pictures.the garden of the museum is very beautiful as well with lots of different kinds of plants, and there’s a very beautiful terrace overlooking the Bosphorus where the view was incredible.I highly recommend checking out the museum.

Every time I visit one of the global exhibits I feel such gratitude that this museum exists. It brings the worlds most exciting artists works to Istanbul. And each time I visit, I also love re-exploring the local standing exhibits which are impressive on their own. The finishing touches include the MSA restaurant and museum gardens which are both sublime.

Successfully managed museum with very special choices of artists and exhibitions. This time it is David Hockney which will close by end of July. There are also other exhibitions such as paintings of Abdülmecid Efendi, the last Caliph of the Ottoman Empire, a talented painter.Unfortunately photos/videos were not allowed.Theres a Cafe but insufficient. However, you can enjoy your coffee beneath the plane trees (sycamore), just 100m to the right as you exit (main entrance on the street).

Exclusive global exhibitions all year round. Closed on Mondays, free entrance on Tuesdays. Very small part of the mansion is open for visit for free. Gift shop is exquisite but a bit over priced. You need to make reservations if you want to eat at the restaurant. Cant believe this museum once was a residence of a family. Beautiful, beautiful place.

There is a very important exhibition at SSM called "Şehzade nin Sıra Dışı Dünyası -Abdulmecid Efendi". May 1 2022 is the closing date. One floor displays early period painters of the Republic, another floor is dedicated to the works of Halife Abdulmecid Efendi. As far as I know, this is the first exhibition where paintings of the Halife Abdulmecid Efendi are displayed.I strongly advise that this exceptional exhibition be visited.

Absolutely excellent museum in maybe the prettiest parts of town (subject to individual preference, of course). An interesting and nicely decorated house (19th centurywith a very well organized exhibition of turkish paintings and enlightened religious manuscripts. Not at all crowded and altogether very enjoyable. Ve sure not to miss the restaurant not only for the great food but also for the nice decor, lovely view and excellent lounge music. One of my favourite spots in Istanbul. (Note that there is parking available on the premises)

Sakıp is a very beautiful museum in a stunning location. When I visited, there were no exhibitions in the gallery but then permanent exhibition was lovely anyway. You will see beautiful paintings and learn how they were restaurated. For your visit, I recommend coming by ferry to enjoy the ride on the Bosporus. The area is very nice, too. I would recommend to see Bebek and Rumeli Hisarı.

It is sure nice with the place and view but as museum it is oriental and classic, rich for a family, poor for a public museum. There are paintings from late Ottoman Empire, nice Islamic calligraphy examples, hand writing collections, 19th century decoration objects. The restaurant has a fantastic view but the menu is ordinary and poor. Especially the way that they have served meetballs was really poor and I can not call it minimalism...

The mansion served the next 30 years as a royal residence and embassy of Montenegro. In 1913, the Ottoman government repossessed it, which became home to the granddaughter of Sultan Mehmed V Reşad. After the foundation of the Turkish Republic, Prince Mehmed Ali Hasan, grandson of Khedive İsmail Paşa, purchased the then derelict house and commissioned the architect Edouard de Nari to build the present house. However, it remained unused for many years until the elder sister of the Egyptian prince made it her home in 1944.In 1951 Hacı Ömer Sabancı, father of Sakıp Sabancı and founder of Sabancı Holding, purchased the mansion for spending summer months with his family. Inside the entrance gate of his mansion, he placed the bronze statue of a horse, he purchased at an auction. The sculpture was designed by Louis-Joseph Daumas in Paris in 1864 and cast by Vor Thiebaut. The house became popularly known as Atlı Köşk (Equestrian Villa). He and his family lived in the mansion until his decease in 1966. The mansion was home to Sakıp Sabancı and family between 1969 and 1999.The mansion was leased in 1998 for a period of 49 years to Sabancı University along with all the antique furnishings and art collections. Today, the original mansion and a modern gallery annex host extensive art collections of 19th and 20th century.[1]

Nice park, Great terrace with a wonderful view of Bosphorus. Actually entrance is for free, if you want to visit park and restaurant only, but Tricky thing, they offer you to take a ticket at entrance, without saying that. And you don’t have to pay, if you are not going to visit museum. Was not going to visit exhibition so paid 35 lira is just for nothing.

All information in the temporary exhibition was in Turkish only. The calligraphy permanent exhibition was very interesting and well presented, and as long as the Calligraphy Museum remains closed is the only place in İstanbul to understand Arabic calligraphy and its significance in Turkish culture. The building is also interesting and part of the exhibition is dedicated to presenting the building itself. If you are a tourist, dont be put off by the museums location, its an excellent excursion, easily reached by boat and is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown İstanbul.
