Vajanského nábrežie, 811 02 Staré Mesto, Slovakia, Bratislava
Museum branch dedicated to natural history, including exhibits on biodiversity & paleontology.
A great National History Museum with great exhibits.
Great place though many Doors were closed for public. I recommend to visit.
A pleasant experience, nice personal, interesting things to see. 👍
As always great exhibitions
Could have been "cooler", but great exhibit with information in both English and Slovak.
Interesting place with permanent exposition devoted to geology, botanic, zoology, human race history and paleontology. There is also temporary exhibition devoted these days to Maria Theresa of Habsburg and Palfys family.
Definitely worth seeing. One can spend half a day in there.
Just one thing to point out. Very unpleasant lady was selling tickets. If that will be on me she will be fired on spot. Apart from that all very nice and a lot thing to see there.
The must visit spot in Bratislava, Slovakia. Educative, informative and encouraging one. Good arrangement, lighting and economical.
Spent 1:45 hrs at the museum with 2 x 8 & 10 year olds. Very friendly staff especially in the geology section who made a real effort to engage the kids. Most exhibits in SK & English. Some exhibits totally up-to date, some showing their age a bit but still worth looking at!
Beautiful exhibitions. It explains human evolution, the evolution of the earth and animal kingdom and so on. It is relatively cheap. 3 euro reduced price, 6 regular. The museum is small, doesnt exhibit the age of dinosaurs. I wouldnt go with children to be fair. The exhibition is both in English and Slovakian.
The Slovak National Museum is the most important institution focusing on scientific research and cultural education in the field of museology in Slovakia. Its beginnings "are connected with the endeavour of the Slovak nation for national emancipation and self-determination
Old exibits, cranky staff at entrance, not worth the price.
Perfect place. Really cheap entrance fee. Exposition is quite big enough. The museum has 4 floors. There is always another exposition at each floor
The wolf has a really cute and big nose, I wish I could touch it but its under glass.
Good excursion, English was available in 99%, however , the top floor was quite lacking, the rest is excellent.
Very nice place to visit with kids especially younger kids as its not very big so kids don’t lose internet, you can spend around 90 min there
What an amazing museum. Very good to go with kids/family.Everything is very well made/presented.I can highly recommend this museum.
My kids love this place. I miss some inovative features and more interactive educational stuff. I literally hate all those seniors sitting near entry doors watching after each of your move.
Very nicely laid out, 4 floors of artifacts. Lots of animals and rocks to look at. Information is in Slovak and English. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Nice place for children not too small, mammut and bear very nice.
This museum was fun. The first two floors were a lot of history of the museum itself which was pretty interesting. The next two floors were the best with exhibits of wild animals (castsin their habitats.
Nice museum overall. Only 4€ for a ticket. The first two floors were a bust. The third and fourth floors were much better.
Very nice museum with explanations in Slovak and in English. Not the friendliest staff in the world. learned a lot about the mountain range in Slovakia, since the geology exhibit was what I was most interested in.
This is a well maintained with display of good collection in the small space & its good to see lot of historic animals & other articles..
Its in true sense a National Museum... covering all the aspects fron geographical, historical, political, water bodies and all.
Very basic museum and small to be a national museum. There is no one there and it tells the story of the country by showing local clothes.. the place seems to be old and not well kept. However if you have time, go and visit a little.
Fantastic displays of animals past and present! This is a world class museum well worth your time to visit.
Beautifully arranged exhibitions in an old historic building at the danube river. The staff is friendly and the museum only cost me (student2 Euro. If you dont speak slovac, there are several english descriptions, even though they are not everywhere.
Small museum but we loved the life-size animal displays, and feel it alone justifies the price of admission. The science could be better explained and more approachable. And sadly some of the information isnt available in English.
Interesting, maybe 1 hour at most
This museum has actual exhibits and collections to look at so we liked it. It starts with an exhibition of photos of modern buildings and stairs and toilets which I thought were a waste of time as I see them all the time but it improved later with an exhibition of old images and old photography which my husband photographer really liked
Very interesting museum, especially the second floor where is the multimedia exposition that is dedicated to the origin of life on earth
It is surprisingly a beautiful collection. The building from the outside doesnt look very promising since unfortunately the facade has not been well care, but there are a lot of great things to see inside. We got the chance to have some guide from one of the museums keepers, he was very keen to show us some special pieces in the collection.
Best museum in Bratislava. Great exposures. Worth visit.
A great place to explore many things
The museum has a huge collection and a very creative exhibition. It is usually empty so you might very well be the only tourist in the building. I would totally recommend as it is reallx cheap and definitely worth your time.
This place is great! Most of the exhibits have explanation in English as well as Slovak. The woolly mammoth is the top!Never thought I would see such a thing...I also need to mention a bison and a giraffe...Proper cool...
The museum exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history, mainly focused on presentation of the diversity of living and non-living nature in Slovakia. The museum also hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions (check the program on official website).
I could visit this place hundred of times, Id still love it. There are several temporar various exhibitions and events during the year and one constant all the year. Returning here regularly. Recommended.
The museum had interesting exhibits but they could have been better organized and presented. Many tags were written only in Slovak and that made it difficult to follow the exhibitions. You should totally visit if you have a lot of time but i would prefer something else if on a tight schedule
Nice expositions, especially the temporary one. It was photography during October.
Really interesting museum for all nature lovers. Some taxidermy pieces were really done well, and I love the backgrounds which were made like their real habitat. Whole exhibition is a chronological story from the begining of the life on planet Earth to life we know today. I have so much photos which I could share, but it is best for you to go there and experience it yourself. :)
Fantastic dioramas! Best explanation and demonstration of continental drift weve ever seen! Excellent look at Slovakian ecosystems. Mineral room lacks the curation skill of the others. Staff friendly.
Go there with limited expectations and you’ll be pleasantly surprised! I loved the folk traditions exhibition! The only thing I didn’t enjoy about the museum, which was also mentioned by another reviewer, was the staff following you and checking your ticket at every exhibit. I’ve never experienced this at any museum before and it was uncomfortable at times.Don’t let that put you off though!
Rather more interesting than we expected....it was very wet that day!! So we needed indoor activities. Also found it was free as it was the first sunday of the month.Good geological samples .many musical instruments. Japanese art exhibition too.
The Slovak National Museum has its headquarters in Bratislava on Vajanského nábrežie (a riverfront street in the Old Town), along with the Natural Science Museum, which is one of its subdivisions. The Slovak Museum was established in Bratislava in 1940 by merging the Slovak National Geographic and History Museum and the Agricultural Museum. In 1961 the Slovak National Museum in Martin was merged with the Slovak Museum, creating the new Slovak National Museum based in Bratislava. The SNM is the highest institution focusing on scientific research and cultural education in the field of museological activity in Slovakia. The SNM manages 16 specialized museums in and outside Bratislava.
It is unfair to compare this national history museum to London’s or New York’s (my frames of reference). One thing I can say is, the dioramas here are up there with the very best. They offer an insight into Bratislavan nature and give a taste of world nature too. Excellent information in a compact, modern exhibition. Well worth your time if you are a nature lover.
They have some good things in museum but staff follow you around and they have no where to sit and no drinks, considering its winter and no shops around
Love this place. For me it is interesting. You can spend there whole day and propably we where lucky that day because one employee provide us through the mineral department and the history about one extinct fish which they have exponated there. Its very interactive presentation about Slovak nature, etc.
