King St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia, Northcote
Interactive multilevel aquarium housing 10,000+ animals, including sharks & saltwater crocodiles.
I liked the experience of freely walking around and through the aquarium, backtracking when I wanted to spend more time watching the stingrays and nurses harks.Saw Primary Schools walking through while I was there aswell as Highschool age students.Just a Good day and experience
Great way to wear out your kids. Took us about 2 hours to get through all the exhibits. Each one was as great as the next. Really amazing stuff.
Definitely the best aquarium in Melbourne. Lots of rare sea animals with lots of unique experiences (with additional cost). This is not only suitable for international visitors, but local to enjoy too, esp. with such a close distance to see the baby King and Gentoo Penguins and sharks, while it is very hard to see in the wild. Cafe food is not the best, but their cookies are very cute and colorful. They only open 1 cafe at any time. and best to visit on weekdays in non-school holiday period to avoid all the queues and see the most animals comfortably. Walking distance to train station and tram stops. Plenty of parking nearby. Staff are very friendly too.
Great place to familiarise yourself with oceanic creatures. Loved the large glass aquarium and penguin area. Don’t miss out the kids 4D movie, it’s included in general entry ticket. Small creature enclosure, which meant you don’t have to scan hours to spot the enclosed creature. Tickets are on a bit pricy side, few enclosures were under maintenance. If u book online 24hrs earlier, u will save few dollars per ticket. Clean, wheelchair and kids friendly facility. Easy assess via public network (train/tram). Paid parking available as well. Can cover it in couple of hours.
LOVE LOVE LOVED IT !!! The walk through tunnel and the penguins were my favourite beside the 5D .Lots of interactive activities for kids. Cafe was very busy and food was moderately priced. Fun day out for our group of 5. I recommend purchase online tickets inadvance.
I genuinely enjoyed my experience. I spent probably 60-90minutes exploring the place while obsessively trying to line up the perfect pictures. The large tank that you walk under and around was truly mesmerizing. Ive never seen a sawfish up close and in such detail.I went as a solo traveler, and while its definitely gear towards children its just as entertaining for patient adults.
So amazing, there was something to see everywhere you turned. The exhibits were setup so that you could always see what was inside. The big aquarium is incredible and fish you think are big actually are 1/3 times bigger than what you see through the glass. Wife loved it, kids loved, was incredible. Staff super helpful as well.
Great place for a family trip. It can get very crowded during the weekend, so I recommend to go there during the weekdays and buy your tickets online before you go. There is a seperate entry line for prepaid tickets. Bring your own sanitizer as we could not find it inside and we can only find empty bottles. The 4D cinema is included in your ticket which is a movie for around 10 minutes. Recommend it! Not recommending buying the hoodie penguin, doesnt feel like it worth the price we paid.
Very great experience. Can be quite expensive for an adult (over $40). Took me and my mate one hour to go through the entire aquarium. Fascinating creatures I loved seeing them all! They have descriptions for some exhibits if you wish to learn more about them.
Sea life Aquarium is of the best place to relax yourself and watch closely lovely aquatic animals and rarely found species on earth.Best thing about it is whenever you come you will always found new thing which you have not seen or observed. I took the annual pass and always visit in a month once. Love this place.
It was a bit busy when we went but still plenty of space, the toilets were clean (not sure about parent rooms as didnt look), the displays & aquarium excellent, most of all loved the penguins. The 4D theatre was fun.All seemed pram / wheels friendly.Cafe space huge.Need more maps in easily accessible places, not just tucked over near the lift entrances. :)
Excellent balance of education and fun. My 8 year old loved all the exhibits and the staff were very happy to answer questions and chat about the animals. Highly recommend the VR shark dive experience. Amazing!!!!
Great day for the kids and adults alike. I loved the family room facilities they were super helpful with a 4 year old and 6 month old. Love the digital picture included in the ticket.
Amazing place to visit! This is our second time to visit and I have to admit that it is a way nicer experience with 8 years old than with 3 years old :There are 15 interesting, beautifully arranged rooms full of sea and ocean creatures! we learned a lot and had heaps of fun. We needed about 1.5h to go through it all and there were beautiful little tunnels where kids good go to explore even more how it all looks like under the sea .... I also liked that they give photos for free in electronic format and sell only the prints. I would recommend the visit to anyone visiting Melbourne with the kids.
I loved the aquarium!! Especially the big viewing glass area with the sharks and rays, as well as the penguins section. :what a joy to be surrounded by beautiful creation.
Love coming here, its amazing every time.Talks are very informative and the exhibits are breath taking to look at.I could sit and watch the large fish tank for days!
Neat place for a family visit. Kids will surely love the place. Probably the best one in Victoria. The staff is courteous and the experience is well planned out.But for a city like Melbourne, ideally people would expect a larger facility. You can cover the whole place in an hour or max 90 mins.
We had a wonderful experience visiting Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium during the week. It was well equipped with signs and easy to navigate. We found the sea creatures delightful and reading up on each sea creature was interesting. The food court area allowed us to take a break and continue our journey through the aquarium.Thank you for a fantastic adventure and we look forward to returning when we visit Melbourne again.
A fun and interesting place to go with your friends and family!!! 🤩The fishes and other aquatic animals are so lovely and cute. Many interactive features are available for kids to choose and adults to enjoy. However, one downside of this place is that it is very cramped! Understandable, since it is very busy. But please do wear a mask 😷 for safety reason because there are a lot of people! Bring water to drink 💦 to stay hydrated 💦. Cramped and warm places can be tiring.
Dive with the sharks is an experience I will not forget in a hurry!Due to the excitement of making this dream come true for a friend I completely forgot about my deep fear of diving.. never mind the sharks and animals who are all well fed and taken care off.. I was afraid of drowning.. so I panicked abit in the preparation of the dive but the instructor who was with us was so amazing, calm and so professional. An absolute gem!! I completed the dive and swam amoungt the sharks and animals. It was such a surreal experience. Definitely something I will do again and no longer afraid of diving!Next time I will book for week day dive. Weekends are so busy. Arrive early, there were ques into the aquarium.Thank you to the instructors especially the instructor who swam with us for your knowledge, patience, professionalism and care.
Had an amazing time. Lots to look at and see. The croc, Pinjara, was so cool to see and all the kinds of jellyfish were so cute. Only issue was the signage. So knowing where you to go and not to, was a bit hard, basically had to do trial an error to see where to go.For those who have not been before, it may be a bit confusing. So maybe more and clearer signage, would be a good idea to add in, otherwise was an amazing day.
It was really good coming here, learnt a lot a saw amazing things. And the 4D cinema was so funny so Highly recommended to try.The only downside is that it was so crowded and you had to wait to take a look at anything. But for me I didnt really mind. Thanks guys.
Sea life Melbourne is a great choice for visiting during school holidays. I booked the day before and paid for it. The price is reasonable. You can get there easily by tram or train. The staff are really friendly and kind. The fish and sea creatures are really amazing and my children love there so much. Highly recommended for children between 3-12 years old. It has a 4D cinema as well and we enjoyed a lot.
Sensational experience. There were a lot of people when I visited today. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the layout meant we got great views of all the displays. The displays were creative and informative. The short movie was wonderful - enjoyed by all three generations in our group. A wonderful way to spend a few hours.
We had a total blast in the aquarium! There are several interactive activities that little children can do through. They feature a wide verity of fish and other sea plant life. There are several different tanks to visit and walk through. Yes, you can actually walk through a glass tunnel and become completely surrounded by the exhibit. Facilities were well taken care of. There is a section where you can touch starfish.
A good place to bring kids for experiencing sea life. Good collection of exhibits across a large area with good amenities. Some of the areaa can definitely use some improvement and better maintenance. The penguins didnt look too happy in a not so big enclosure. Similar attractions in cities like Bangkok/ Singapore are better than Melbourne Sea Life.
Good place to spend money a couple of hours with the kids. Staff are nice. Try and find discounted tickets online before you go. The layout is a bit confusing and there are a few bottlenecks with the amount of prams moving around. The kids loved it.
Lovely penguin exhibit and we enjoyed the jellyfish and the B2 level where the sharks and rays are. The other areas didnt flow well but I think that has a lot to do with covid restrictions. It was really hard to find escalators / lifts, I had my 2 young children and a stroller and a lot of people who didnt need to use the lifts were using them which made it difficult for us as we had no other option. Peppa pig was there but the line was very long. Was exciting to see Peppa from a distance anyway! The gift shop was surprisingly well priced. We werent told when we arrived to validate our parking but were very lucky a man at the carpark helped us get out - some signage at the entry would be very helpful for first time visitors as a reminder to validate parking! Kids enjoyed themselves, a lovely day even during the busy school holidays.
The Melbourne Aquarium, a beautiful aquarium located in the center of Melbourne.Inside, the meaning of the visit route is quite badly done, the paths go a little anywhere, people walk against the direction at times, and the paths are small so not really practical for the world inside.Regarding the different rooms, they are "sorted" by species. There are places filled only with seahorses, other jellyfish, etc.The species are not really mixing them apart for fish. You follow a sense of visit by species in some way. There is a wide variety of fish (clownfish, deep-sea fish, small freshwater fish, etc). There is a pool, where you can admire a huge crocodile. There are rooms with reptiles and amphibians (snake, frog, lizard).Further in the aquarium, you will continue your way in glass tubes, where you can see passing above and around you, sharks, rays, big fish, turtles and many others. This is one of the best places in the aquarium, where you can take lots of nice photos. And to finish before going out, you will access the basin of penguins. Filled with snow, you will see the animals as if they were in their natural habitat. They walk, they sleep, they have fun sliding on their stomach. And right next door are the pools where you’ll see the penguins playing in the water together, swimming, jumping. It’s impressive to see outside of the TV, and to me that’s the highlight of the aquarium and the main point of interest.Childrens and adults, you will have a good moment in this aquarium, the time of a day.
Even though it was school holidays, it was a fun visit. It was busy, but not crazy due to limited booking numbers. Best to book ahead. Its not just for the "littlies." I went with my 14 year old son, and we both loved it. Bonus with the penguins at the end. Interesting displays and well set out.
Very fun and family friendly. Was a fun experience even for couples. The huge aquarium was the main highlight along with the penguins. Spent a lot of time there looking at all the creatures in Australia. Even saw a snake shedding it’s skin. Love that they explain the conservation efforts that are being done by the aquarium too.
Good to visit with my children and spent time there in rainy day. 4D cinema was very enjoyable. The track wasn’t easy to go through one by one otherwise nice size for young children.
Beautiful aquarium, plenty of sea life and fascinating exibits. Wife and I paid for the penguin show, where we enter their habitat and learn almost everything they could tell us about them.People here are very dedicated in making the life of these sea creatures amazing, and I recomend it to any and all lovers of animals.
Great day out! Kids loved it but good prices are a joke better off eating before you go! Also gift shop only takes card not cash..
Amazing place!! You can see all kind of fishes and in the big aquarium they have an area where you can seat and watch all fishes/sharks and more. Nice cafeteria and common areas
A surprisingly large experience given small street frontage. Goes underground with good immersive experiences covering a good amount of Australian sealife.Interactive and fun for small children and plenty for them to see and do.Some better signage and layout would help as we got confused a few times even with the map. The glass on displays needs to be cleaned more often or more thoroughly. Lots of snot, hand prints etc made some displays less engaging.Post covid recovery is obviously something there working through with multiple displays empty or being rebuilt or enhanced. Itll be great to come back and see it all touched up.
Quite the experience to have in Melbourne! The aquarium had a variety of sea creatures all in separated sections. Loved the penguin section and the sharks section the most. It was divided into two major sections, sea and rainforest creatures.Overall I really enjoyed the visit and definitely recommend it.
I like the way the fish tanks are kept so clean.Beautiful creatures big and small. And the 10 minutes 4D cinema treat was soooo enjoyable and funny (based on ice age movie)Cafeteria is good too we enjoyed the latte and chicken burger.Overall its was a good tripWorth your money.
Visited over the weekend with my two young children booked for a 9.30am slot. Line was long to get in but moved smoothly until the line for the sealife photos. Even if you dont want the photos, you still have to wait in the cue, which was not managed by any staff, despite there being two lines and people cutting in. Once you are past this, you are able to move around the exhibitions freely.Unfortunately, as someone with a baby in a pram, this was extremely difficult as numbers are not capped and every walkway is narrow and difficult to get past. To move between floors, you have to wait an extremely long time for a tiny lift for pram access or risk it going up and down the stairs. Anywhere there was a ramp, you could not get past with one in each direction safely. Majority of the exhibitions were great, but we noticed a fair few were missing animals or under repair. Additionally the 4D cinemas was closed as were the rock pools. Its a shame that it is allowed to be so crowded with people on the weekends as it makes accessibility really difficult and as someone who doesnt have the option to come during the week, it makes for a disappointing family day out when people are pushing you around exhibitions. I believe this would be a great experience if they had staff on the floor to manage how many people can be in and out of certain areas, not only for comfort, but should there be a need to evacuate, you would have a stampede of people and injuries would be likely. It was also disappointing to find that every single baby change toilet the nappy bins were overflowing with nappies, yet we had only been inside for less than 30 minutes from when they opened. I would say the bins had easily been neglected from the day before and the smell was revolting.I recommend visiting, but with no pram and during the week as you would not have to endure the chaos of the weekend visit.
Was a great day for the kids and me!Always interesting and great to see some of the creatures up close. Was fairly busy on a weekend but plenty of room to move through the exhibitions regardless. Really enjoyed the penguins and the sea dragons. There were a few exhibitions that were empty and getting updated so good to see theyre keeping it turning over with more reasons to come back again
Probably the best aquarium in Australia. I could leave it at that but I think this place deserves a little more love. Its huge and you could easily spend over three hours just looking at incredible sea life they have presented here. But not only that this place takes conservation incredibly seriously all the fish or sea life is either to help preserve that species or is especially created to protect a spefic animal. One of their main exhibits is a crocodile that when you say its gigantic its a understatement. One of the biggest salt-water crocodiles in Australia let alone in captivity. But if they didnt protect it, it would of been killed to protect the environment is was originally found in. They have a penguin breeding program to help that endangered species I could go on but there must be a character limit and besides I dont wanna spoil it all for the newcomer so please come and check out a diamond feature of Melbourne and visit SEA LIFE Melbourne.
Close encounters with a variety of fishes and animals at Sea Life Aquarium in Melbourne. Located in the city, it was easy to access the site and the parking arrangements provided eased our visit. With the friendly staff, the experience was pleasant throughout; especially for the young members in the group. It was wonderdul to watch the many colourful and varied life in the sea at close quarters! The food outlet inside the aquarium was ok for a quick coffee/bite in the middle. Here are some pictures of what we saw.
Loved it! The walk through tunnel and the penguins were my favourite. Lots of interactive activities for kids. Cafe was very busy and food was moderately priced. Fun day out for our family. If driving I recommend purchasing online tickets and at checkout add the $9 weekend parking. It works out cheaper and its only a short walk.
You will be happy when you go here! We spent almost two hours there, taking our time to read the very interesting information. Obviously it is crowded on the weekend. Staff is super friendly and in good spirits, the animals are just bewilderingly stunning… an awesome place!
I thought it would be a great experience for my 18month as he loves water! But the grownups were just as fascinated. It was a memorable day for our family full of wonder and excitement!
Fantastic aquarium and worth the money. We spent about 2 hours exploring and definitely felt that we received great value for the ticket. The jellyfish, stingrays, and sharks were the highlight of my trip and they had beautiful enclosures. The only downside was the penguins. They are gorgeous animals to watch but the enclosure felt a bit grim. I understand it is up to standard for animal welfare, but seeing such gorgeous creatures standing on blue plastic mats within concrete walls was a bit sad and it seemed like they are lacking enrichment. Even if these animals have never experienced their natural habitat I feel more effort could be spent in enhancing the enclosure. That being said they did appear healthy and well cared for.Overall would visit again and do recommend people visit. But if you are only interested in the penguins then perhaps it is not worth the money.
This place is awesome! Spent too much time having fun that I didnt take too many pictures. A lot of people during the school holidays though, and the rooms are quite small so it can get loud. I can only imagine it would be even better with less people around!
Absolutely brilliant place to visit whether you live in Melbourne or are visiting this is a place not to miss. Although the Q is long they get people in very quickly. The food in the restaurant was above expectation and great value. I highly recommend that you visit this attraction as it is also very family friendly. We will definitely be back very soon. Well done sea life aquarium
Always fantastic experience and great learning for everyone. We hadnt been for around 3 years. Its changed a lot with improved exhibits, clearer access and pathways, and stunning exhibits and experiences. Not necessarily cheap, but youd expect that. On-site cafe is handy but quite dear. Definitely worth a visit. Try to book a quieter time for the best experience.
Overall I had a great time. However, once you get past the ticketing section you have to line up for the photo section. Which is great for those who do want photos, but for everyone else you just have to stand in line for 20 minutes for the photos you dont want. It would be great if there was a way to bypass the photo section.
