Rune Wines - Winery in Nogales, Mexico
I tripped as I entered. The raised door track was well marked, painted in BrightWarningYellow, but the cute blonde had caught my eye. My fault. She had what I wanted...full bodied yet delicate, fragrant, lite, yet promising everything I like .. and more. Peg was caught up, too, the beauty and magic of the place intoxicating..wonderful. We looked at each other, deciding. Should we tell her .. "Yes, we want what you have", or just move on, always wondering...Wishing we had. Another taste of her offering and we knew.. "Well take a case of the white", I said, handing over my credit card...
My happy place. Great wine, great people
I only stopped in for a quick taste of the Cabernet and the Grenache. The Grenache is definitely the standout (and I’m typically a Cab guy). I purchased a bottle of each to take back home with me to PA.A bit pricey (2 bottles=$115); that’s steeper than Sole of the Napa prices. But these are the last 2 weeks I have in Arizona. If you’re nearby worth the stop but just do the tasting
We are from California and discovered Rune Wines about 4 years ago. We were so totally blown away with all of their wines that we signed up as a wine club member. We are close to some great wineries at home and its always fun to take a bottle of Rune to a social gathering where there are sure to be some wine aficionados and have them guess where the wine was made. We visit Tucson every year in May and a trip to Tucson wouldnt be complete without going to Rune!
Stopped to visit this winery when visiting from PA and it was absolutely amazing!! One of the best wineries Ive ever been too (and Ive been to a lot). Wines are awesome and the winery itself and views are absolutely beautiful. Great place to sit out all afternoon!!
Stopped by on a windy Saturday afternoon. We had our silver lab with us, so we were so happy it was dog friendly and found a beautiful area outside that was private and shaded overlooking the vineyard and mountains. Great view! Very nice and informative staff. $13 for a tasting of 5 unique wines, a rose, a white and 3 reds. One red stood out, and we bought a bottle of the Graciano to take home. They did have some food choices, which was nice to know. Very peaceful, relaxing stop.
This place has great views, friendly staff and delicious wines. We will definitely be revisiting 😊
Rune is a sleek little winery that has the perfect vibe — minimalistic but sophisticated, with crafted detail at every turn. The tasting room is a solar-powered eye-catcher, with a soaring ceiling, smooth-line bar, and well-stocked merch shelves, but the prime draw is outdoors, where tiered seating areas offer panoramic views of the grasslands and surrounding mountains. As serious hikers who enjoy "al fresco everything," we sank into the chairs and felt as though we could stay there all day (practically did, with guitar and snacks in hand). From shade sails and stone-ringed fire pits to natural DG walk paths, the spaces have an exceptionally organic fit to the surroundings, and we thoroughly enjoyed being able to do our hosted tasting outside too. We were also impressed with the menu — house-made hummus, burrata, caprese salad, fresh sandwiches, and more. Its clear that winemaker James and team have put careful thought into every element of this place, right down to the edgy narrative art on the labels of all the wine bottles.
Excellent wine! Enjoyed the outdoor seating to enjoy the scenery while enjoying the wine. Worth the visit!
Excellent experience. Beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. Decent wines, a few are outstanding. Professional and friendly staff. Tasty food.
Took our friends from Saint Louis to tombstone and then followed up with Rune winery. Great time fun wines
Beautiful location, some nice shaded outdoor seating areas with amazing views. Tasty wine of course also.
Wonderful wines. Beautiful views. Definitely worth a taste.
I was to visit only three wineries, so I attempted to pick the three with the best reps. Another winery suggested Rune or I may have missed it. As it turned out, it was the best of the three I visited. The rose and viognier were surprisingly good. All but one of the reds was highly drinkable, although, as with all other Arizona wines Ive tasted, Id put them in the category of table wines. On a return visit three years later in Feb 2022, I found all the wines on the red tasting menu to be very satisfying. Delicate but flavorful. James is doing a fine job as best I can tell. As for the tasting experience, it was superb and thoroughly enjoyable. The staff was friendly and informative. On both occasions Ive visit, I had a great time at Rune.
High on a hill, surrounded by a sea of grass, viewing a mountain to the west, sipping Rose, sunny, breezy, with horsetail clouds over head. A good way to spend the afternoon.
Southern AZ GEM. Must stop here ASAP. Okay now that I have your attention, let me tell you about the greatest low key winery. You will be at peace here. We went around 5pm and watched the beautiful sunset with a glass of wine.Doesnt seem like much when you first pull up but once you walk around the side of the building you will see a beautiful view paired with various shaded seating. I cant wait to go back in December. I had the Rosé which was amazing. They also have seating around fire pits which makes it more enticing to return in December. Please visit this winery. Add it to your list.
So great to find a winery with good wine and spectacular views. Enjoyed all the wines here, the Viognier was one of the nicest I’ve had (and I’m not a big Viognier fan). The view over the prairie was amazing. Cannot wait to come back and enjoy a glass of wine while we sit overlooking the prairie
The view is phenomenal while outdoor wine tasting , staff was just as phenomenal. This isca must stop taste room with excellent wine
First time visiting Rune Wines and cant wait to get back. The scenery is spectacular and almost as a good as their wines. Be sure to try them all, but our favorites are their Rosé, Viognier and Syrahs.
Absolutely gorgeous views and delicious wine. Incredibly friendly staff who are very knowledgeable. Cant wait to come back.
Get views and tasty wines. Good prices and friendly staff
One of the best vineyards in Sonoita not just the winery of vineyard and tasting... patio ? I guess you could call it... The views are awesome the staff is awesome show some love these guys are great
It started out nice. The setting and the wine were lovely. After paying for our $38 bottle of wine (happilyand sitting to enjoy it, we got up to leave. The man who sold us the bottle and received a tip, yelled at us from across all the other people on a busy Saturday and asked us to pay for our wine. It was so loud and awful that everyone stared at us. So unprofessional.Wont be back.
Beautiful setting for wine tasting. They set us up outside and the day and view were beautiful. My husband is handicapped and couldn’t sit down on the low slung chairs so the girl in charge brought us better chairs and the wine! It was a lovely afternoon……|
Over the years, we discovered Rune and came to accept that they make some very fine wines (I believe they also make fine wines for other wineries in the area). Be warned, however, that their tasting experience is now probably the most expensive in Sonoita! Back in the day, that was not the case.... this reduces my rating in terms of stars.
Drove by many times and never stopped in. Stopped by today to not only find them open, but to find them doing tasting outside under some shade. The samples were pretty good and the win ended up going home with me in a bottle.Nice place, would return.
The wine, service and setting was fantastic, only to be outdone by the artwork in the bathroom. Contrary to what Heather said, they are some fine pieces to inspire curiosity and romance. Loveeeeeeeee.
Delicious wines and beautiful scenery. Love the new indoor area. However, the bathroom art is so distasteful that I will not be returning. We’ll find a new spot to be a “regular” when we go wine tasting.
Loved my visit here! Knowledgeable staff & delicious wine! Great casual atmosphere.
This place is legit! The wine tasting was great and I loved all their choices! The atmosphere is super chic and trendy with a friendly, chill vibe! Definitely looking forward to coming back!
Environment was great! Had beautiful views and a beautiful open area inside the tasting room. Wine was mostly yummy
Great views, great staff, and great wine samples!! Have never found one I didnt like there. My favorites are the reds!
Beautiful location!! I definitely enjoyed the rosé here, and the surroundings and view just cant be beat. I think theyre still working on getting electricity in the building, so it was difficult to use the restroom. And the young man doing our tasting was a hair less friendly than I might have liked. When we were asking questions about the facility one of his answers was "I just work here". Fair enough, just not friendly or personable.
I adore their wine - Call me basic, but I think Rune makes the best Rosé in AZ and beyond. Don’t even get me started on their reds... they are all outstanding! The tasting room is so close to being finished, and it’s going to be a real game-changer. Just go. You won’t be disappointed.
RUNE WINES is absolutely beautiful. I went in August during the monsoon season, and the cloudy sky against the mountains was stunning. It really feels like youre in in a different country, with such a unique landscape. The wines were wonderful and I bought a bottle to take back home with. Do no miss this place if you come to the area!
Really good wine. We never had AZ wine before this was our first stop and we were very impressed. We decided to go on a wine tour through Sonoita and did not enjoy a single other wine at all the wineries visited as much as a single one of their wines on the menu. Everything was great and we didnt expect to have such an incredible Grenache from AZ. Unique varietals of Grenache Blanc and carigina blend (spelling?). Awesome spot! Super recommended especially if youre skeptical of AZ wine!
Came out from Monterey, CA to visit some family and wanted to check out the local wine scene in Arizonas wine belt. This was our first stop and will be hard to beat. Great Grenache and a very interesting Grenache Blanc white wine along with 3 other varietals on the tasting menu. For $15 w a wine glass this was a steal. We ended up buying 3 bottles ranging from $20-30 so even the bottle prices were great. The staff was friendly and built a fire as it was surprisingly chilly on the afternoon we visited. Def would recommend.
Very rustic and the white wines were ok. Do your self a favor and also visit Hannahs just to the east.
What a nice escape from the city. Beautiful landscapes and even better weather. To sit and watch the sky move or spend some time chatting about the wine is well worth the drive. And the wine selection was just right from refreshing to strong and bold.
Beautiful views, disappointed by the wine and overall service. If its 100 degrees outside and the wine is just sitting in the shade its not "room temperature", hot wines on a summer day just arent good
The wine is delicious. The views are gorgeous. Nice place to enjoy a glass of wine and the tranquility of the outdoors. Highly recommend a visit.
Even with social distancing rules in place Rune provided a nice shaded area with misters which made it comfortable. The wine were exceptional and the people were great!!
This is a developing vineyard that is off the grid. Im looking forward to visiting again when the vines mature. They have done an exceptional job creating great tasting wines from other grapes while they tend their young vines. The tasting room is completely outdoors with comfortable seating overlooking amazing vistas. Dont miss this one on your Sonoita wine tour.
We loved our visit to Rune! It is obvious that a lot of thought and creativity has gone into the creation of this winery and the wines themselves. Loved the atmosphere of the entire place. Definitely hope to return!
Absulty a wonderful visit, Grace and her pup are very friendly. Would love to get back there soon!!! I couldnt sip this visit as I was working but was told the wine is very tasty. Some of the best wine hazel has tasted! Thanks so much, cheers
We had a great experience wine tasting here. Wines were fantastic and the view outside was the icing on the cake. Staff was friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back here next time I am in town.
Expensive compared to the other tastings in the area but we still enjoyed the visit. It was $10 each regardless if you bring your own glass. The staff were great and very knowledgeable about their wines and how they are produced.
Jacob served up a wonderful glass of Mourvedre, for my fist taste at Rune. I had only the single glass, wanting to fully enjoy that wines expression. James Callahans nascent winery may have the most spectacular view in all of winedome. Besides the great wine, their perch on the edge of the Sonoita grasslands is breathtaking. You can delight in the wine... and become scenery drunk! James is using Pillsbury grapes to concoct his venue... his vines are on the way. Please stop in. The place is spectacular!
Im the Arizona Wine Monk and this is one of my six favorite wineries in the entire state of Arizona. James Callahan makes fantastic, innovative wines that fully express the terroir of the landscape. Be sure to try the Wild Syrah, you will not be disappointed.
Excellent wine! James is a very kind and friendly business owner. The outdoor tasting room is a nice change of pace, relaxing and fun. I definitely recommend stopping here!
