Ruislip, Chesham
726-acre nature reserve with native plants & wildlife, plus a network of walking/biking paths.
Very pleasant woodland mercifully free of fences constraining where you can walk. So a pleasant ramble in the woods.
We had a lovely late afternoon walk in the Ruislip woods with our dog. It was so tranquil and peaceful as we walked the many "public paths." it is difficult to belive that such a natural place exists in the middle of suburbia. Highly recommended if you want to get back to nature.
A lovely place to walk and take in the views and beauty of nature
Excellent walks around here. Several toilets around on route.
Ruislip woods - great place for an early morning walk!
The woods are a beautiful getaway perfect for walks bike rides, dog walks and simply to get away from the heat..
Good place to visit, nice walk, friendly local people you meet ,n family
Wonderful area in West London, tended by brilliant staff.Downside selfish people from outside the area, creating a lawless waste strewn zone at the weekends. If you cannot treat the area and staff with respect best to stay away.
On a very hot sunny day, my Sister and I wanted a walk so needed somewhere suitable. Short walk to the H13 bus stop and we were off to Northwood (St Vincents Nursing Homethe end of the route. Arriving there, we decided to visit parts that we had not been to before so headed north. Under the tree canopy it was refreshingly cool with a pleasant breeze. After a few weeks of highish temperatures and little or no rain, the ground underfoot was hard and dusty. From our starting point, we branched off to the right and started down a slope. Lots of stones on the paths meant that care was needed at times. After a few hundred yards (metres 😀we came to a fence on the left hand side and carried straight on. Further on we noticed the tracks of the Ruislip Lido Narrow Guage Railway inside the fence, so we were walking along the top part of Ruislip Lido but deep into the woods. At a junction of paths, Haste Hill Station could be seen to the left. We went right and came to skirt Haste Hill Public Golf Course following the path round to the left. Warmer here as there were fewer trees but still pleasant. Couple of fallen trees across the path meant ducking under the first and my Sister semi-limboing under the second. Not for me so I snuck around via the edge of the golf course and back to meet her. Further on, a gate on the left indicated the way in to Poors Field, with a warning that in the Summer free roaming cattle were used as a way to keep the grass and vegetation under control. Not today, thank you. Another junction and the right fork meant that we were heading north. After a while, we reached the rather exclusive estate in Northwood. Rather large houses well in excess of £ 1 million. Our path ended at Linksway, and we turned left, still in the woods at the back of the only slightly smaller but still very pricy houses in The Broadwalk. A notice had indicated earlier that horses were not allowed but judging by the amount and size of animal droppings on the path, the local dogs must be huge 😉. This path, if followed all the way, would bring you out onto Ducks Hill Road but we went about half way before turning left and heading back towards Ruislip. This long straight path went down at first then up a very long upslope. Underfoot, it was very stony and much care had to be taken. Eventually we got to the crest and started down again. After a while, we branched off to the right, passing some family groups trying to sneak into Ruislip Lido the back way, and came out onto Ducks Hill Road. On the Woods side, there is no footpath roadside and it is necessary to cross the road with speeding traffic to get to a rather poor footpath on the other side to head towards Ruislip. Our trip was about 2.4 miles and took 90 minutes with plenty of stops. Main path could be negotiated by push chairs and wheelchairs if care is taken. Anyone with mobility issues should stick to those main paths. Naturally after any rainfall, the paths become slippery and quite tricky needing lots of care. Great place to dog walk. Other visits are now being planned.
Lovely place to take a walk, enjoyed the experience. However some of the paths are quite narrow or not smooth for wheelchair users. Please make the paths wider to allow wheelchair users and pedestrians pass without having to step onto the grass or dirt.
Ruislip Lido has been improved greatly over the years. Love the pirate ship that’s on the beach. Looks like fun!
Perfect for hiking , chill , and take enjoy with nature:)
I been asked to leave, not allowed to camp for few hours and not to have a small fire for food, why then they saying coming and hiking area for... I been asked to leave it ruin my afternoons
Great sight to behold. Wish I had more time to explore the park, the falls were as I said a great sight to see. Worth the visit.
A lovely slice of countryside just 30 mins from central London. Our little dog was happy hunting squirrels! Lovely bluebells in the spring.
A tranquil place. Come here for a walk and enjoy an ice cream at the lakeside cafe. Access from Kings College Road and youll enjoy a wonderful walk through the woods, make sure your kids wear their wellies as lots of muddy puddles to wallow in!
Absolutely amazing place to go for a walk. The lake is beautiful and well maintained.
Great park. Plenty of space to walk around, gorgeous in the Summer. Good trails for dog walking and relaxed walks with kids
Lido is amazing. A really well maintained local park with good amenities, clean with dedicated staff. Worth visiting any day of the week.
Great place to go for a winter walk but make sure you are prepared as very muddy this time of year so walking boots or wellies are the desired footwear! Have the pleasure of walking around the lido too and watching the miniature railway in action
Great place to visit. Lots of fun. Great cafe.
I love this place , so peaceful away from the noise of traffic. The trees are beautiful, even in winter it is worth a visit.
Beautiful walk, dog loved it. There is a beach at the lake. And a small fenced area aswell for dogs on the beach. Loved it. Only thing the parking is a rip off. Really expensive
Just needed time to self.Hide away from the active world, hide away in nature, get lost in the world of nature.A empty mind, works a treat.
Great place for people of all ages.Lovely views, very peaceful for those of you who want to go and relax- equally great areas for families and children to play!
Great place for walks or just spending time with family and friends. Very educational with all those interesting facts about planetary system all along. There is also a beach which I was surprised to see,and plenty of playgrounds for kids. Nice food in restaurant,so is worth to coming back there.
Beautiful Broadleaf woodland criss-crossed with paths to provide plenty of walking. Perhaps Beech and Silver Birch the most prominent trees, but also Hornbeam, Oaks, Sweet Chesnut, Alder and Aspen. Free car park here, or you can access from the north end of the Lake.
Awesome place for walking. You can walk in the woods and in the walking path around the lake. Nice cafe, man made beach for kids to play, kids play area and a small train for kids which opens in summer.Parking for Hillingdon residents who have a resident card and additional parking for space for others.
Beautiful place to spend a day out. Plenty of playareas for kids to enjoy, sand for the little ones to build castles and great swings by the water. Like a little paradise 20 min from home. Will definitely come back soon ❤️
Absolutely wonderful, beautiful and peaceful forest. I normally drive an hr and half to new forest not knowing there is actually a lovely forest just 20 min away from my home. Free parking available. As soon as you park, you have different paths and directions to go to that will lead you into the forest. I went during the morning and it was very nice and quiet. Lovely birds singing and even got to see some horse riders! (Bear in mind, it does get very muddy during a wet day so make sure you wear appropriate shoes and clothes)Its not easy during the pendamic so going out for walks especially places like the forest is very healthy for the mental health. I definitely recommend.
Love these woods, but very muddy at the moment. Lovely walk through woods & lake with surrounding fields.
This is a fantastic little place to walk around a lake which appears from the middle of nowhere in Ruislip 😃Theres a lovely little toy railway thats priced very reasonably for a round trip (about £3 odd). Kids love it and even in Corona time theyve made sure that they place people in alternate compartments/seats to maintain distance.Theres a cafe at one end of the railway where you could grab a coffee and some nibbles. Take a stroll and then hop back onto the train back to the main entrance. If you fancy doing a full circle around the lake walking, no problem. For an average walker itd take around an hour. But youll come out of this place refreshed.
Love this place so many walks to discover great for taking the dogs or family walks.
Very large park with beach, picnic area, restaurant and a little lovely train to ride along the park. Unfortunately the beach and train are closed for few weeks because of covid 19
What a great place to walk a dog or spend time with kids. Nice to walk around the Lido and watch birds, or take a steam train, or have a lunch on designated areas with tables and benches. Have some cash as parking was cash only here but easy to park
Wow, what a gem for trail and dog walkers. It has loads of different paths and trails to explore and sourronds/edges onto Ruislip lido beach.
Good woods and lake. Parking is £5 and doesnt accept cards/notes so very inconvenient. Nothing nearby to get change. Has a beach too. I got lost in the woods for a while.
Beautiful quiet woods. Ideal for calming you down in the midst of nature...
Great place to walk around. Has a man made beach and mini railway train. Plenty of activities for children.
Great place for families either have a nice walk through the woods chill by the beach or take a ride on the train. Kids have a nice playground by the beach.
Great place for a peaceful dog walk. Wonderful for spotting local wildlife too...
Really good place for dog walking in any season. You can also wander further afield if you cross Ducks Hill Road, it can make half a day walk easily. With Hillingdon First card you can park for free at the Lido, but arrive in time in busy periods. Refreshments available around the lake.
What a lovely place. I mean its not stunning by any means. Its just nice, the woods are lovely and quiet, the lack is pretty, the beach is a lovely find, there is a pub doing decent food (and a carvery). Lots of wildlife (ducks, birds, squirrels, and deer to name a few)Definitely well worth a visit
An attractive place for all ages.. nature at its best. Well maintained by the local council, with lots of new facilities.. including an outdoor gym..
Lovely place, excellent for families at all times of the year. The woodland is incredible and there are plenty of tracks for runners and walkers alike. The beach on the lido is great for kids and the carvery in the pub close by is excellent!
It was pleasure walking around the forest, the lido itself is very stinky and dirty. We couldnt even touch the water .. any kind of water sports or swimming were prohibited but ppl were still swimming despite water being so dirty and restricted...Being bit late we couldnt enjoy the train but enjoyed walking through the forest...
Lovely ancient woodland with main paths and all sorts of options to meander through the trees. Its passable with a robust pushchair if it has been dry. Gets very muddy when it has been wet, despite some stretches having boardwalks, so bring your wellies if it has been raining. If you pick the right route you can have tea / coffee / a meal / an ice-cream at the Lido San Remo restaurant. If you dont find that then the cafe at Kings College playing fields makes a great selection of bacon sandwiches / fried breakfasts!Jacks riding stables will take you along the bridleway on a leading rein if you fancy a ride.Remember, places like these are where dog-walkers go all year round, rain or shine, so expect to see dogs running off the lead all through the woods. On the whole, people are good about clearing up their dogs poo. The play area around the Lido is an area where dogs should be on a lead if youre not a dog lover.
On hot days, it is good to go to the park and enjoy the nature and the fresh air. Take a seat near the tree and enjoy your favorite book or climb trees around.
A great place when its bright and sunny for fun in water and on the artificial beach or for a walk in the woods. Wonderful for children BUT please be careful and look after your children as so many kids were lost today and was quite a drama..
One of a few places in London where youll find a lovely lake and beautiful woodland. Has a miniature railway and a lido too. Enjoyed my spring walk.
