Pyramid-shaped museum exhibiting elaborate funerary objects from the pre-Inca Royal Tombs of Sipán.
Excellent museum. Make sure to put personal belongings in locker as they do not allow large bags. Pay for a guide or you will not get the full experience. A must see in peru. I was lucky enough to be there for thier 35 year anniversary today.
It’s worth it to drive from Chiclayo just to see this museum, and they now finally allow photo taking inside!
Very nicely laid out.
Amazing! One of the most amazing museums in Peru. Well worth coming to Chiclayo just for this museum. Considering the the artefacts are over 1,700 years old, they are of incredible quality and wonderfully preserved. Would suggest visiting nearby Museo Arqueológico Nacional Brüning first - it is less flashy, but still has a wonderful collection, including lovely ceramics.
Best museum in the north of Peru, highly recommend
Excellent experience 👏🏾 Well laid out and thought out! Actually was honored and blessed to meet Mr Walter Alva before leaving the museum
Unexpectedly amazing. Probably the most complete archaeological museum Ive ever been to. Storyline is very well done and items are kept on careful display. You will be amazed here. I do hope the museum will translate more of the information to English. It seemed they stopped doing that somewhere halfway, which is a shame!
Security people are not trained in customer service
Very wonderful place with a nice collection of jewelry and antique belongs of the “señor de sipan”.
This is an amazing museum and requires at least two hours. Guides are available and I advise you hire them because there are very little info graphics inside. Make all arrangements to visit one of the richest tombs in the world.
Fascinating museum! Very interesting to learn how the old moche culture (before the Incaslived. Photos were allowed to be taken inside, our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable (in Spanish, I dont know whether English is possible too).
It’s a very organized display of Sipan’s Royal Tombs!
Great museum ! We loved the guided visit. So many items to admire.2- 3 hours are good to get a deep look at this museum. It lacks foreign translation though.
Probably a nice museum - if you understand Spanish perfectly. Only in the beginning there were some English translations but then everything is only in Spanish. So without understanding anything there were some nice jewelry and pottery but also these were almost always the same. According to the guest book at the end there are almost only Perú citizens visiting this site. I guess more foreigners would come if they’d understand anything. Audio guides would be the perfect solution.
Interesting , but a little repetitive
An amazing museum! You cant take fotos inside but have to see the treasures!
Wonderful museum with great mochican artefacts
One of the most important museums in the world, because it contains the Lord of Sipan, who lived around 1,500 B.C. and was discovered by the archeologist Walter Alva in 1987. The tomb contained a lot of pieces made of gold, silver and copper.
The content of the museum is amazing and some of the best Ive seen in South America.Unfortunately the museum is massively let down by the lack of story and content conveyed by the information boards. Also none of the information on the second and third, the lowest level, has any translation into other languages and the top level only into English (about 25% of the whole museumso its pointless going if you want to learn and not just see pretty objects.I believe they have the option of a guide to squeeze more money from you if you like.Id recommend reading up beforehand so you know what your going to see.
So far the most thought-through museum I have visited in South America. Well structured, lots of information on the different artifacts. Also includes a section on the discovery of the tomb and the tools used by archeologists.Very recommended if interested in history, ancient cultures and their deities and rituals.
It was amazing how the tour guide explained the burial site. You need to experience burial, jewelry, pots, weapons and see how the Moche people lived.
Fascinating place. All well exhibited. Great idea of entering at the top to make the flow of people smooth.
Probably the best museum in the world (im an archaeologist). It is so well constructed the exhibition and the find itself is amazing aswell, with so much gold
This is an extraordinary museum . Well built and instructive. It shed light on preincaic civilization barely known .
An amazing museum of history.
Absolutely gorgeous museum, highly recommended! Make sure you can either read Spanish or have a guide who speaks English.
Museum with great history and culture of the area. $10 Soles per adult. No photos are allowed in the museum. There is a free baggage check on the side of the museum to safely hold your belongings while inside the museum. Most if not all of the explanations inside the museum are only in Spanish language. The day we visited had dances from bordering countries.
Awsome museum only problem is no photos but still worth the visit
Can def reco dis museo! Not so poopy toilet at all
Its a great place!!!
One of a kind museum. Pay for the guided tour. Its less than $10usd and covers about 1.5hrs of history. They dont let you take cell phones into the museum. Thats the only negative side. The jewelry is out of this world and you will be amazed! Definitely a museum worth visiting if you travel to Chiclayo/Lambayeque any time while in Peru!! First Sunday of all months the 10 soles entrance is free.
As a native English speaker, I greatly appreciated English on some of the exhibits. You cannot expect English in all of them, and you cant bring your phone in, so be prepared to read some Spanish info without access to Google Translate.Even if you speak no Spanish at all, this museum is a must-see if you ever find yourself with some spare time in the Chiclayo area. They have some of the most spectacular jewlery that I have ever seen in a museum in Peru, the kind of stuff that ancient royalty used to wear, kept in perfect condition
A great tour, very interesting, Peru is fascinating and full of beautiful experiences
The explanation is provided in English only in the first room. The personnel is terribly unpleasant. On the other hand, if you have previous knowledge of the Inca history, the artefacts are very interesting.
No cell phones or cameras allowed , lots of unique Gold & Silver jewelry on display . After the visit take a walk 2 blocks to the Lambayeque City Market for a fresh fruit juice ....
Fascinating and varied archaeology for the 2nd most extensive find in tthe world (behind that of King Tut).
The presentation was good and the guide but the museum did not allowed cameras very anoying.
Excellent experience Rich was history of the area. Keep in mind cell phones are not allowed No cameras
Great artifact! No cell phones not cameras inside though. Had to check them into a locker.
Was an interesting museum to visit. i didnt like that you could not bring in anything so if u need your phone to make a call it will have to wait. cant post pic cause not pics are allowed. Pay for the tour guide...it not much more and you get a better u derstanding of what ur seeing.
Definitely a place to visit if you want to find out a bit more about the tucume pyramids and the people that lived there. English translation for the items stopped on the 1st of three floors but it was still interesting to see the artifacts.
Worth visiting despite only 66% of the exhibits have English translation.
World-class museum with impressive discoverings of the Moche culture (200-800 AD more or less). Should be visited, especially if you liked the Huaca de la Luna in Trujillo. Would be nice to have more movies depicting how the tombs were discovered and how the Moche culture worked, but what there is, is tastefully made.
Incredibly well designed museum that displays the history of Sipan, it’s Lords, their tombs, and the pyramidal structures which their cultures created. No photos allowed, because some people ruined it for everyone by continuously not turning off (or knowing hot to turn offtheir camera flash, which led to deteriorating the ancient fabrics and metal varnish of the artifacts. Disappointing because there are some amazing pieces on display, that are of course worth visiting regardless of photography. Highly recommend coming to this museum if you visit Chiclayo.
I was really surprised how well done this beautiful museum about the archeological findings in Sipan is. Absolutely worth a visit.
The best museum Ive seen so far in my trip ! An amazing collection of extremely fine gold and silver jewellery found in the tomb of Sipan of the Moche people. An absolute must if youre interested in pre-hispanic cultures of south America. Its worth taking a guide.
This is a very good and interesting museum. If you dont know Spanish you might want a guide though since only one floor has texts in English.
Very nice museum. Well explain mostly only in Spanish.
This museum is pretty good, it is closed on Mondays so be aware of that. It houses many awesome artifacts of ancient Peru, so that is really cool
Its a beautiful place with history and friendly people I love Peru.
