Royal Stables - Monument in Meknes, Morocco
We payed I think 70 each to go visit the royal stables. It was closed or something so we had to climb over a high wooden fence to look at the stables? Like thanks for letting us view it while closed but also it was a strange experience. My mom I think damaged a small part of clothing when flipping over the fence. Shes 50+ years old and not something she should have had to do.We payed like 150 for a tour guide at the end but we feel like it wasnt that helpful. I had a hard time understanding his english and he didnt say very much. We didnt request the tour guide, but he kinda joined us at the end and expected us to pay him. We felt like this was pretty unfair.I feel like the royal stables is definitely worth a visit, but refuse the tour and read about it online instead. I think some weird stuff is happening with part of it being closed too. Strange experience overall.
Moulay Ismail (born 1645 and lived until 1727was known as one of the more ruthless leaders of Morocco. Slaves created his magnificent visions for the architectural masterpieces that have become popular tourist attractions, and laborers that were often treated inhumanely and suffered under Ismail’s rule. But one of the most impressive memorials to this time has survived in Meknes, namely the Royal Stables.
It is nice to visit but does not worth 70 Dirham per person
70 dirham for what amounted to a 10 minute visit. No signage or info to speak of ( you have to pay a guide extra for that ). Also lots of red tape everywhere making the place unsightly. Half the outdoor stables were not even accessible. As I was leaving I asked the guy at the counter if this was a joke and that was we get for 70 dirham. He said that was everything.
We didn’t visit this place with a competent tour guide, and there’s not any information at all at this site. If more information were to be provided, we would had got more out of the experience
Absolutely recommend during your visit in Meknes, best if with a guide. Its an enormous building originally used as stable for horses
The guided tour was unnecessary -- there really isnt much to explain that you cant find on a quick online search, but the place is quite cool.Entrance fee is 70 Dirham
Beautiful place. Save your battery for the visit.
Too much 70dirah ( 7€ to see an empty place which is great but not tude very well.
Great place for short walk. Free parking. Amazing pond and old royal stables. Time for relax and rest.
The stables are quite pretty. But half of it is not accessible, due to maintenance not been carried out.Entry is 70 DH pp, and youll spend max. 30 minutes here.
Got scammed here. The tour guide forced us to give 200 Dirham and blocked us from leaving
You wont spend a long time here, and 70 Durhams may seem high but I thought it was worth it. Read up on the history and wander through.
Atmospheric spaces with amazing shadows & photo opportunities. Calming. Some deep steps for the mobility challenged, from entrance & throughout, but mostly flat ground. Only the smell of horses is needed to complete the illusion.
The place is so nice and scenic. Its not worth the guides tour, you can read the history on lonley planet book or Wikipedia. If you take the guides tour I wouldnt pay more than 50 to 80 dhr
As it stands currently its interesting if youre in town for a couple days. But not worth the visit otherwise.Over half of the stables are not open to the public. There are also no signs or explanations so you dont get much of an experience if youre walking in blind. But if you know a bit of history or if you googled things before walking in, the whole place takes on a new significance. The Royal stables used to house 12,000 horses at one point. Each with its own groom and slave and little cubby. The stables had running water and enough stores to feed the horses for years.Thats all really cool and all, but its not worth the ticket price and trip to just see empty rooms now. Spruce it up please.
Its a very nice for a long walk and some street snacks. Cute animals walking with their owners and people playing their music in the night. Theres a downfall of motorcycles tho... People riding their motorcycles instead of walking... But other than that, its a fun place to just chill, walk and breathe.
Its amazing worth paying the money to get in, a historical master piece of architecture, but I wish it was in better conditions ...
Great guided tour. And Wel u are hot from the sun its a good place to cool
Impressive granaries, stables (12k horsesand water basin of Moulay Ismail with original ceder wood doors. Catch a taxi or calèche from the mausoleum
Its not worth the 70 Dirhams entry price. Although an interesting site theres no information and not a lot to see. Best just read about it as the history of it is fairly interesting. .
Like other monuments I visited in Morroco its almost impossible to understand how it was used when active because there are no explanations at all inside and unless you want to pay to a "guide" on top of the entrance ticket you wont understand much of it.The entrance is 70MAD and 10 min are more than enough to visit it.
The architecture of this place is grand but in the end it is just an empty space and I do not think it justifies the high entrance price.
This was a very intersting and informative trip to a historical site in Morocco. We had a very nice and hyper guide who was very informative and knew what he was talking about. He gave us lots of interesting inforamtion. Being led through the old halls and stables was very fascinating.
Worth a look for the atmosphere and architecture.
People who lost this site as unremarkable are probably unremarkable themselves as they can’t appreciate the significance of this site. Firstly, it is giant! The stables alone could hold 20,000 horses. Secondly, this construction was completed >600 years ago yet it still stands despite being overgrown. Imagine the work and skill that went into its construction without the assistance of modern technology - outstanding! Thirdly, this was the granary of the king - in other words the empire’s most important figures only survived because of the food that was kept here. If it were destroyed, there is a good chance that the empire would have gone with it as well as many of the other amazing sites that people enjoy elsewhere across the country
You can visit the stables where thousands of Moulay Ismail horses were kept. This powerful sultan transformed the city of Meknes into an imperial capital and you can appreciate the grandiosity and power of this 17th century sultan.
One of my favorite places in Morocco. Hundreds of columns in a row...
Very nice place!
Grandiose place especially when you learn that more than 12,000 horses used to be kept there. Youll appreciate the thickness of the walls and the ever present cat.
Massive complex, constructed with mathematical precision. Great spot for geometrical photography
Basicaly just empty building without anything interesting. Really not worth of 70 Dh for tourists (locals go here for 10Dh, as on many other places in Morrocco).
Nice to visit. An earthquake has destroyed a lot but still impressive.
Nice. Ish.
Very beautiful site, but I think 70dh is maybe too much
Great place to see. Nice history tour.
Nice historical place.
Very neat place, not a lot to see but still recommend viewing it due to the history if you have an hour or two.
Great place!!!
Its a huge historical place and its worth seeing it for only 10dh. You can also buy tour, but they are more expensive. I recommend seeing it if you are in town.
Its the structure by the reflecting pool. Big rocks, not well marked. Some parking across from it.
Nice place to see, with historical value. Great idea to gather water and preserve it in Africa.
Quiet pleasant historical place
Its okay but is left to ruin, no information boards, no restoration of any sort. Nice place but could have been so much better if some effort had been made to turn it into a tourist spot
Highly recommended! This is truly a hidden gem in Morocco. Breath-taking ruins that will blow your mind away.
Good place for visit, but Dont expected something special.
wonderful environment, specialy in the night, but be careful the jobless local young boy, they will destroy your feeling, they are really bad in all Morocco. They dont have work, just want to get some money from the tourist, they will destroy Morocco.
Nice relax place
Amazing sight to see with the symmetrical architecture.
Great history of grainary and use of water. Beautiful symmetry of architecture
