Calle de Bailén, s/n, 28071 Madrid, Spain, Carabanchel
18th-century, ridge-top palace for state occasions, plus tours with rooms full of art and antiques.
The sheer opulence of the Palace will leave you in awe. Its a pity that many of the beautiful structures inside the Palace cannot be photographed. Take the guided tour and see it in person.
Definitely one of the most impressive palaces I’ve visited. It’s beautiful and majestic.Make sure to buy your tickets in advance to avoid the very long queues outside. I also recommend taking the audio guide which was clear and informative.
Absolutely breathtaking! This is the 3rd biggest palace in Eastern Europe. A guided tour is a must and the price is ridiculously low. Our guide was amazing, provided lots of information. Beware, photos are only allowed up to a certain point of the visit. There is a coffee shop and a beautiful gift store.
We unfortunately went on a day that the King of Spain was at the palace. Today, a big festival/military parade will be on display. So, because royalty was around, the palace was closed and many police prevented exploration of much of the palace grounds. We were able to explore the gardens and we walked around the entire perimeter to also see a chapel. In total, you could walk around both in about 35 minutes if your pace is slow and you take time to enjoy the sights and snap pics. Otherwise, its maybe a 15-20 minute trek around. We did find a nice Cafe in one section of the gardens, however, service was incredibly poor. I have a review up for them specifically but they do have a great view of the palace. Its incredibly busy here. Expect lots of tourists.
Phenomenal experience. Beautiful place. No pictures inside most of it thoughMy advice buy tickets online for easy entrance. The lines can get longArea around the palace is very relaxed and park like
Excellent garden to arrange plants by their uses and by their systematic relationships. Visited in September, the Dahlia flowers were beautiful with numerous varieties. The gift shop has beautiful items but prices are high.
We went during the weekday. Definitely buy your ticket in advance to avoid the long queue. We gone with the audio guide but I think an actually guide would be better. Impressive palace just given its sheer size and each room has its own unique design.
This is definitely a “must visit” when in Madrid. My only complaint is that the mobile app audio guide doesn’t work. They shouldn’t offer it to the public. I recommend to buy your tickets online and in advance to avoid lines.
It was a rainy day, so we decided to go into the Royal Palace of Madrid. There are two entrances. One dedicated solely to groups and the other for individuals, make sure you go to the right one. They are timed entry but I’d go a little early as the line can get long and their security is very slow. The overall palace is huge and has several rooms. Half of which you cannot take pictures in. It was worth it overall. I’d recommend going if you are into museums.
As far as palaces go this was one of the more enjoyable ones Ive been through.Audio guide was excellent and worth the investment.I saw no signage suggesting photos were prohibited on the interior, but the guards were very strick on this... no photos. The cafe was a nice reprieve from the heat outside, but the food on offer at the time we were there let the palace down.
Well, what should one say? A lot of art and wealth… it’s impressive how things worked long time ago, politics, etc…Art is amazing, a must see in Madrid…It would be great to see lot more in the standard visit, I’m pretty sure that many doors lead to secret places…
A beautiful palace with the most luxurious rooms one can find.I thought was filled which such great opulence and history. However upon a quick google search it doesn’t make top 20 best palaces in Europe so sadly I can’t afford this a 5 star. I might review this after I visit aforementioned best palaces in Europe.
Its hard to capture the scale of the palace in a photo. Its a magnificent building and I felt awestruck at the sheer size of it. We didnt go inside, we only walked around it, between 4-5pm and it was very quiet. I noticed that many of the windows looked quite shabby and in need of repairs/replacement, which to me deflected from the grandness of the building. There was a lot of construction work taking place at major public monuments throughout Madrid as we drove through it, so hopefully at some point in the future therell be some restoration done to the palace, not for the sake of the royals (who no longer live there), but for the historical value this palace has for Madrid.
Beautiful, really. The line looks long but it goes in 10-15 min. Some rooms get real crowded because theyre small. The rooms amazed me. I have seen many castles and palaces but this one did stand out. The only sad thing is that they only allow you to see part of the palace and they dont provide english tours. They do have good multilingual audio guides. They also have a royal armory collection and a recent opening of the kitchens (for the kitchen you have to buy additional tickets).I recommend buying tickets there if you dont really know what you want to see. If you want to skip the 15 min wait, buy the tickets online.
The visit to the Royal Palace starts from the monumental staircase guarding which two lions are positioned, a symbol of power. Entering the various rooms you can see how they are decorated according to the tastes of the monarchs who lived there. The real “treasure” of the Royal Palace of Madrid is the Stradivari collection, the most important in the world. Visit the halls of one of the largest active royal palaces in Europe
Definitely a must visit place, rooms inside are stunning. Unfortunately the audio guide didn’t provide all the information about what you are looking at. Better to visit in the morning, there are less people and you can really enjoy walking around. Unfortunately In some rooms it is not allowed to take pictures.
A MUST visit if you are in Madrid! Also make sure you buy tickets a few weeks in advance online or its not a guarantee that you will get in (the lines were huge to buy tickets on Saturday)! Another advice is dont try to sneak in pictures in the no picture areas, security takes that stuff extremely seriously from what we saw. Other than that the place is absolutely beautiful and if you are into history you can learn a lot from here! Dont forget to visit the armory on the way out! Its a little hidden away so most people dont see it, its across from the place you originally entered in the first courtyard.
We really enjoyed our visit. We went on a Wednesday and bought the audio tour because most of the signs are only in Spanish. If you have more time at the palace, I would highly recommend that you buy the audio tour and listen to the extended visit version. It talks more about the artwork and history of the palace. It takes 1 hour and 45 minutes versus the regular audio tour, which takes an hour. Dont forget to hit the armory as well! It has authentic weapons and armor from the 1400s onwards. All the signs are in Spanish so again, I highly recommend the audio tour. Overall, would highly recommend this visit. Its also air-conditioned.
Theres so much to see and it gets overwhelming 🙂 Its a very extravagant place with intricate details. To visit this attraction in the heat of summer is a not a very good idea because not all areas inside the palace is fully air-conditioned or the AC is not powerful enough for the seething sun. However, will still recommend to see this place.
Awesome place, you need to pay 13 euro to enter the palace but its worth all the money spent! You got to see many things inside the palace that will amaze you and you dont even have any idea how these people did it back in the days, the painting on the ceilings are just mind blowing!!! 🤯Recommended place to go in Madrid! 👍🏾👍🏾
They say it is double the size of the Buckingham palace. Well, it is indeed quite large. Consider at least 4 hours devoted to the place or even your whole day. The architecture is beautiful and even in scorching heat outside, it feels like it is worth it when you see/observe the history. As usual, taking pictures/using mobile phones is not allowed in most of the sections. Keep abundant water bottles. At the entrance, for walk-ins, there was a queue of around 15-20 people ahead (about 15minuteswhile for advance/online tickets, there was hardly any queue. So, suggestion is to get the tickets online if you dont want to stand in line outside the block in the Sun. If you are a history person, youll definitely enjoy. Go for it.
Impressive ! A huge palace rich with history and antiques. It was wonderful to see the Caravaggio painting and to tour the site. You will want to bring good walking shoes and sunglasses :)Buying tickets in advance helps !
I believe this one of the most visited places in Madrid. The cool thing that the palace is still used by the royal family. Probably because of that you are not allowed to take photos inside, just a few rooms. You could buy tickets in advance or wait in the line on the sun to come and get the ticket. Usually the line is big enough
Havent been inside but from the outside the Royal Palace looks enormous and incredibly beautiful. However, keep in mind that its almost impossible to buy a ticket physically and its way better to book online. But still, everything is fully booked for days ahead. There is a park at the back of the Royal Palace it which is free. There are some animals, too. Overall, an amazing but overcrowded place!
Monumental building. From the side of the Plaza de España, there is a pleasant garden with fountains, sculptures and clipped greenery. From the front, as always, queues. Not sure if its worth going there. If you walk through the square to the terrace - a beautiful view of the park opens up.
Definitely one of the best palaces weve ever seen. The line was not terribly long, but it is faster when you have previously purchased tickets (we used Headout). Upon entering and security check, we went to the open courtyard that had a beautiful view of the Cathedral and an even better view of the valley that overlooks Madrid. We could see residences, the parks, and gorgeous mountains behind it all - a truly picturesque scene that we took many photos in front of. The courtyard also shows the front of the palace which is also picture worthy. From there, we moved through the exhibitions which included a lot of majestic art on the ceilings that were detailed Biblical and historical murals as well as portraits and art work around that the Royal Family owns. Going through each of the state rooms, dining rooms, and throne rooms was our favorite part as each room was decorated lavishly with art, murals, silk wallpaper, and furniture that matches each rooms color scheme and vibe. Walking through the rooms you can physically feel excited to relaxed based on whether it was a state room or a bedroom because of the interior design and architecture. There was a lot information that we learned via the Spanish and English blurbs of information posted throughout. We got to see orbs, specters, and royal crowns and gained a greater appreciation for the Spanish monarchy. We thoroughly enjoyed the dining room and throne room as well as the Palaces private royal church. We recommend going to the Palace because its truly majestic and nothing like weve seen in terms of beautiful architecture and interior design.
Very nice palace with many rooms about the history of the Spanish monarchy. Beautiful paintings, rooms, tapestry etc.EU citizens can visit the palace for free from 17pm! You’ll have to wait in line for around 30min but it’s worth the wait. You can always buy tickets online (we did not know this beforehand).
This is the most beautiful palace I have ever visited and Ive been around the block. It far outshines Versailles and the like. I highly recommend a guided tour. I didnt get many photos because they are prohibited in much of the palace - all the more reason to see it for yourself because photos wouldnt do its splendor any justice anyway.
Wow. This place is something else.Honestly my expectations were not that high at first as I unfortunately get bored of museum-like places quickly, but I am happy to say I was interested and engaged the whole time. We got an audio guide which was equipped with headphones and a Samsung tablet. You could take different routes on the tablet which would bring you to different rooms in a logical sequence. We chose the recommended route which was around an hour and twenty minutes but there is a longer and more in-depth option. You can click through photographs on the tablet which is amazing and does make a big difference. The palace itself is beautiful. There are so many different rooms with unique themes and it is very fascinating. I definitely recommend!!
Was worth the wait as there were many rooms (photos not allowed in most). If able to plan in advance would certainly recommend buying the tickets online, and do note that they follow your timeslot chosen when you bought online.
The Royal palace of Madrid was just stunning! My favorite was the banquet room. I wish we had been allowed to take pictures inside, but the memories will definitely last a lifetime. Make sure to get the audio guide, it adds a lot to the trip!
As the largest working palace in Europe, this place really is one of the most impressive palaces to visit. Even walking around the outside of the palace gives you a sense of how grand the building is. It gives Buckingham Palace a run for its money, so much so that Buckingham should be called the Palacio Real of London. You get a feel of the grandeur of Spanish monarchs when you walk around. The palace deserves so much more recognition than other similar palaces.
Probably the highlight of our short trip to Madrid. Excellent from the moment we entered (including a very efficient security checkto the moment we left (after enjoying a quick drink and snack in the lovely cafe AND a quick browse through the neat and tidy souvenir/book shop). A bargain priced couple of hours and a huge recommend if you are visiting the capital. We would recommend booking your tickets on line before arriving, it does save a little time getting in.
Such rich history. I can see why the Spanish take so much pride in their history and architecture. If visiting Madrid, this spot is a must. I highly recommend buying tickets ahead of time online to skip the long lines though since they still follow covid rules and only 90 people are allowed at a time. Hopefully this review helps 🙂
Must see, gorgeous! The line was huge, I recommend to buy the ticket in advance, we were waiting for almost an hour to get in. But it was worth it, it is luxurious, and breathtaking. Dont miss the armory room which is hidden, outside of the palace, on the left side.
One of the biggest palaces in Europe // Double the size of Buckingham Palace. Construction started in 1738 for 18yrs; took 100yrs to decorate its 3,400+ rooms!Beautiful place to visit! Lovely and tastefully furnished with the actual decorations done centuries ago as well as actual thrones, fittings, kitchenware used then too.Better to buy a ticket before hand even though its possible to enter free based on certain criteria.Highly recommended.N.B. Pictures are not allowed but I took a few before been told....#FBTravelTales #ExecutiveOmoJesu 😎
Buy tickets in advance, you choose your time and enter without waiting. Inside no pictures except for main entrance hall. Spend about 1 hour walking thru. Can get audio guides. The rooms are all quite exquisite. Highly recommend.
This landmark is a gorgeous place to visit. I would highly recommend purchasing a tour or the audio tour. This is not your typical museum. Each room was more gorgeous than the next but I would have loved to learn a little bit more about what I was looking at. There are some placards with minimal information sprinkled throughout the experience. We bought tickets a head of time which allowed us to skip the line. We did have to wander a bit to figure out where to enter the palace, but eventually found it. Another recommendation I have is to place this a little further into your trip, it is killer to do this much walking when trying to shake the jet lag. We can make our way through a museum pretty efficiently, but this kicked our jet lagged butts! There are no pictures allowed inside most of the areas, but it really is quite breath taking to see these rooms decked out in the most spectacular art and treasures. A highlight was the crown and sceptre. Definitely worth a visit.
Visiting and touring the Palacio Real is a must during any visit to Madrid. The exterior of the building is great and absolutely stunning, but the inside matches it and exceeds expectations. Entry tickets are very cheap, especially for students, children, and all eligible for typical EU price deductions, but I believe only 12€ for a normal ticket. While you can’t take pictures past about the second room, that only allows you to experience the space more fully. The chapel, dining room, and several of the rooms were among some of the grandest, most ornate spaces I have EVER entered. They were absolutely breathtaking — rich in Spanish history and impressive both for the time they were constructed and for modern day. Enter the room where Spain officially joined what would become the European Union, read the original coronation speech of the king, then turn around and look at his crown! This was such a special visit. I highly recommend it.
Definitely buy tickets online ahead of time if you dont want to wait an hour or more in line. The palace is more beautiful and grander than I had imagined. No photography is allowed except in 2 rooms. The audio guides in different languages are nice.
Must visit attraction in Madrid! The place is really marvelous, full of history. You can’t take photos of all the astonishing rooms and decorations but you will surely discover some unique views!
The exterior of the palace looks more beautiful than the interior. The elegant architecture is befitting to be abode for the royalty. The white palace contrasted by the blue sky creates a stunning atmosphere for photo opportunities. The large open space at the palace exterior helped create a feeling of openness. The visitors are only permitted to visit in a designated route, and photography is not allowed in the majority of the rooms. The information boards are in Spanish and English.I strongly suggest visiting in the morning because the queue and waiting time can be insane in the evening. You may not be able to enter if it is time to close.Bring a debit/credit card for payment. They dont accept cash.Should you visit? Yes, the palace is simply beautiful.
This was my first time visiting Madrid, the Royal Palace is a MUST SEE attraction if you are in town. The architecture and scale of building is stunning. Make sure to have a tour of the kitchen (you pay extrabut it’s very informative and it’s a piece of history. To the right as you enter the main patio there is armory that seem to be hidden, inside you will find full armors on display! A nice little surprise.Strongly recommend!
Very magnificent place that you should not miss! Advance ticket booking is recommended! The guards were very friendly. There’s no problem if you bring bag pack because there are lockets for keeping your belongings.
Absolutely beautiful! Stunning and wildly impressive landmark for the religious and non-religious alike. Im not a part of the faith of this church, but I felt welcomed to explore and marvel. Quiet rooms for prayer. Lots of hidden nooks of historic significance. This would have been cooler with a tour guide.
A real iconic place in Madrid. Beautiful place with a lot to history. Enjoyed looking at the different rooms. A real pity that the palace has just become a tourist attraction and is only in use for very few state occasions.
Enjoyed having the walk through some of the royal family rooms. Liked to be there and imagine the events that take place nowadays as well. The room decorations and music instruments collection (Stradivari pieces includedare quite impressive. Photos are only allowed outside and on the stairs of the palace.
Beautiful place to visit with lots of interesting things to see and learn. Not expensive so Would totally recommend to take the audio guide as it gives you way more information that you would learn without it. Also recommend to go as soon as it opens as it tends to get crowded later on the day and lines get long.
Beautiful palace at walking distance from the city center. The place is huge but only a limited number of chambers can be visited. The palace is packed with history and is probably one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe. Unfortunately it isnt alowed to take pictures in most of the rooms. Even so, the visit is definitely worth your time.
Absolutely mind blowing place! So so beautiful. Keep in mind no pictures are allowed for the large majority of the visit. I would highly recommend you get the audio guide as it gives good explanation and facts about the rooms. There is a cafe above the gift shop that is nice.Gardens were closed when I went.
