Viale Douhet, 2/a, 81100 Caserta CE, Italy, Caserta
Huge Baroque royal palace in sprawling fountain-filled park, with a court theater plus guided tours.
Huge, enormous, magnificent piece of construction. The palace, the aqueduct, the gardens. All massive and impressive.Easy parking just in the entrance to the palace. There u can rent bikes or take the shuttle (highly recommendedfor 2.5€ per person to the end of the aqueduct, there u will enjoy great views and the English gardens.
The Royal Palace of Caserta was a fantastic and grand place to visit. We really enjoyed going around the apartments and the grounds. You could easily spend at least half a day making your way around. Its well worth having a look around the full set of grounds and fountains and do not miss the English gardens!
This is sheer opulence! Built in turn by the Bourbon kings Charles and Ferdinand, the Palace is based on the Palace of Versailles but in some respects, is bigger. For example, Caserta has 40 staterooms compared to 22 found at Versailles. Its built to impress and it certainly does that in style. Its very bling but at the same time an incredible testament to the wealth the Bourbons possessed. Its a glittering display of gilt and marble starting with the Grand Staircase and continuing on through the staterooms of Mars and the Throne Room. We went on a Sunday morning (we parked in the underground car park which lets out directly onto the palace grounds and is good value at one euro an hourand it was still quite busy but not frustratingly so. The whole site is well-organised with facilities for all visitors. It was a truly wonderful day out in the sunshine of Campania.
Amazing palace! You can take the mini bus (2.5 eurosto take you to the gardens if you dont want to walk. The gardens are totally worth a visit.
The must visit place!!!I’ve in a few castles, and can say that this one is one of the most interesting for me!We have made first walk into a gardens. Which was huge!!! After we spend around 2 hours in the castle. I think that both attractions have to be visit separately because they need special attention.
Infinit rooms, amazing garden and a beautiful place to expend the whole day. Please go with time, take in count time to rest and eat. Worth every second expending in the palace more big of the world!
The castle is stunning in its size and decor. But personally, I was disappointed with the presentation. The audio guide is uninteresting as it continues to list off names, Id rather have heard more about the lives of the inhabitants. The rooms are fairly empty and I thought the modern art was distasteful. Do visit the English garden at the very end of the fountains. Its charming.
The Palace is an absolute gem! Weve seen a few places in Italy, but nothing like this. Allow 1-2h for the Palace itself and another 2h for the grounds (if covered on foot). You can also rent an electric bike or use a shuttle bus that takes you across the garden.
Simply one of the best sights to visit in Italy where you can go with your family or friends. Keep in mind that ideally you will need to devote the whole day to really enjoy all the beauty of the palace and garden.
Essentially a smaller version of Château Versailles! A little further away from Napoli but the train is cheap and takes you directly there. Tickets were reasonably priced and can be bought at the turnstiles. There are amazing frescos and pieces in the Palace rooms that are worth the visit. The garden is massive, you should not miss the English Gardens which is all the way at the end. Its about a 30-40 minute walk at a leisurely pace or if you prefer, you can take a bus which only costs €2.50/ round trip. However, renting a bike should be the best choice to taken in the beautiful scenery here!
The theatre is open only at weekends for visitors. The gardens are opposite to the palace but far far away.Take the mini bus to go there cause theres a lot of walking. The gardens are simply Amazing best i have ever seen. This is the biggest palace in Europe, Star wars fimed some scenes here.May the force be with you.
A phenomenal building that serves well to display the wasteful spending of large government. Monarchy/Dictator or Liberal alike. We’ll never know what this capital, invested into Italy and the people, would have created instead
Beautiful Palace. Its huge entrance is just wonderful. With continuous restoration process, palace is very well maintained. Very beautiful paintings and various artifacts. There was no waiting at all when we went there. We went in afternoon. No need to buy tickets in advance. Its easy to buy on the spot.
Amazing palace and garden. I have visited Versailles, but Caserta made a much better impression on me. Magnificent marble interiors, great architecture, a wealth of paintings and frescoes. Plus a beautiful and extensive garden with a huge cascade. A landmark of the glory of the Kingdom of Napoli and Sicily.
The place is very run neglected from the outside by any standard. The feeling is that this is a "tourist trap" even if the visit was free it’s not worth the time wasted on it.Save your time, money and visit the Palace of Versailles near Paris
Gorgeously restored staircase. Most of the palace is not restored and the gardens are not impressive except in their length. Worth a visit though.
Amazing Royal Palace of Caserta which is known by many as the little Versailles, but which is in fact way larger than the French palace. It used to be the Kings of Naples main residence (Two Sicily Kingdomand it is listed as UNESCO heritage site.A must see place located approximately 38 km from Naples.I hope the photos will speak for themselves about the beauty of this palace. It has free entrance for children.
Absolutely breathtaking place. I suggest going early if you don’t want crowds to serve as a background on your photos. I was there at 9:30 AM on a weekday and there were a few people already but nothing crazy. The ticket to see the inside (an absolute mustand the gardens is 19 euro. There was also no queue since it was quite early. The gardens are quite big but walkable if you are in a good shape. Otherwise you can rent a regular (4 euro per houror electric (6 euro per hourbicycle. There was also a shuttle bus (2,5 euroto get to the further end of the gardens but it kind of cancels the point, as it’s really beautiful there and you would want to wander around instead of seeing it all out of the bus window.Getting there: I took a train from Naples, Garibaldi central station which was about 4 euro and 35 min. Once you get to the Caserta station, the palace is right in front of it, you can’t miss it.
Amazing, well worth seeing. Well organised so no queues to get in, shuttle bus or bike service in order to visit the grounds. Would advice booking in advance
One beautiful palace that you must visit if you are close to it. It has a lot to offer and you can spend a lot of time here. So its a must to eat something before getting here or at the restaurant inside the Palace which is just an average one.TICKET PRICE: 20 Euro to see the palace and the gardensVISITING TIME: ~1H the Palace and ~ 3h the gardens, but you can easily spend up to 5h in the gardens and you can take a mini bus from the start to the end of the garden or vice-versa with only 2.5 Euro.HOW TO GET HERE: We came from Naples to see it and we came by the train. There are plenty of trains coming and going from/to Naples Central train station and it is only 3.4 Euro per person.
Very impressive palace, especially the majestic entrance area, but the park is not well maintained. I recommend the 5 pm ticket for 3 Euro just to visit the castle. It’s not too crowded at that time. Access to the park should be free of charge in my opinion.
It was nice. The ceiling frescos were the best part of the visit. Sadly not a lot of furniture left from the Bourbon time. The garden was a let down, not a lot of flowers or ornaments. Also, the round trip bus tour was 2,5€ and the bike rental was 4€ for 1 hour.
A very beautiful place. Do not give up the English Garden, it has a very small lake with a waterfall and a statue, literally a paradise. The palace is also very impressive.
Maybe a nice place. I don’t really now because on Tuesday it was somehow closed they said after two hours driving here. Everything behind walls so you can see s*hit from the outside. Next try we got there by six due to huge traffic. But 18:03 they said it’s too late and closed. After another 2 hours driving. Even there were still lots of people in the park. Tragic as everything in this Italian region. Of course almost no one speaks English 👎
In short, the Royal Palace of Caserta is a former royal residence in Caserta built by the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies as their main residence. Curiosity: It is the largest palace built in Europe during the 18th century and it is the largest royal residence in the world with an area of 47,000 m². There are 1200 rooms but you will see just few of them because 1only few are open to public and 2you would need a month! Highly suggested to buy your ticket online otherwise expect to stand in line for quite some time, especially during the weekend.
Few tourists. Seems like we had most of the place to our selves. Lots of space to explore. And enjoy the interior and garden.
Huge palace, needs a lot of time to watch it all.Prefer to rent an electric bike at the gardens instead the bus or going by foot, as it will take some time to reach the top of the gardens
Love the garden and walk is definitely worth it!The palace itself is great, full of history and gold :)It takes 3-4 hours to enjoy both palace and garden. For the garden - take the bus up and walk down.
This place is of mind boggling size, absolutely enormous, and requires at least several hours to visit and explore.Tickets were 14 euro for the apartments and English gardens. The gardens are located several kilometres away from the palace can be accessed via walking or a shuttle which is 2.50 euro each way. Walking takes between 30-45 minutes. Would recommend walking to the English gardens and shuttle back to allow enjoyment of the fountains along the way. Some parts of the English gardens were closed for maintenance but they were enjoyable none the less.Walking the apartments you enter via the grand staircase which is an awe inspiring entrance and then follow the guided path through the open rooms. We didnt have the audio guide but would recommend as we walked away with more questions than answers. Believe it is only a few euro.Hit the follow button for more tips as we travel the world. 😉
Interesting place to visit. Large sprawling palace but both the palace and the park feel weirdly empty and antiseptic. The rooms are gorgeous but are cold and empty. There is no feeling that anybody has ever lived there. Impersonal and cold.
An absolute beauty! The architecture is amazing, the gardens are so calming, amd the interior is extravagant. Exactly what you expect from a royal palace. A lot of articles and people compare this to Versailles but I would recommend that you visit this site with an open mind and take it in for what it is.
A very nice palace with on of the most impressive engineering feats displayed in the multi pooled fountain with intersecting roads underneath. The gardens are astounding and the Palace apartments are nicely staged as per time period it is a full day
Amazing palace which is HUGE! Puts little old Buck Palace in the shade. Stunning furniture, vast rooms, and impressive decor.Let down slightly by a complete lack of signposting from train station, and its a good 30min walk.
Beautiful palace with amazing gardens. It worth to spend a day here and explore the apartments and surroundings. There are was an exhibition of contemporary art inside, and it’s items have been placed among main collection in apartments. It was so interesting .Also, the museum has great discounts for people under 25: the ticket was something like €2 instead of full price.
It is worth a trip. The architecture is impressive, and the atmosphere is there: royal stile of XIX century. Some architectural solutions are stunning: the entrance escalier. The garden walk, with its fountain is worth a visit on its own
The place is magnificent and similar to versailles palace. The gardens are beautiful and there is a shuttle bus that takes you from the palace to the end. There is also a waterfall but the access to it was closed for renovations however the english garden was open and full of a-lot of different species of trees and bushes. The entry ticket was 2 euro for EU students under 25 years and 16 euros for the rest.
Its really pretty on the interior but the main show is outside, its only a 2 euro charge to add the apartments of the palace to the ticket so its well worth the price.
Beautiful palace in Italy. Full day tour. Lovely gardens and a spectacular building.
A must see place. Buy the ticket including seeing the rooms inside the palace (“the apartments”). Costs 15€ instead of 10€.You start by seeing the main garden, at the end you go to beautiful “English gardens” and afterwards to inside the palace.Notice that the English garden has the same entrance and exit so as far as you go in is as far as you’d have to go back. Also to see the apartments you have to choose an hour. They didn’t care when we got there but I guess when it’s busy there more strict about that.
Its worth the visit. You have quite large parking in front of the palace at a decent and fair price... About the palace I can say that it is extremely well preserved and arranged. The view from there is I think the most gorgeous. Extraordinary
Expectations were blown, literally one of the most beautiful buildings I have been into. The decorations and paintings are something to be seen - pictures attached do not do justice. Only sad moment was one section was closed for restoration. The Palace was extraordinary and the grounds it is on also. Well worth a visit to spend the day to wander and appreciate all parts
Huge, enormous, magnificent piece of construction. The palace, the aqueduct, the gardens. All massive and impressive.Easy parking in the train station (1€ per hour *not accessible *just in the entrance to the palace. There u can rent bikes or take the shuttle (highly recommendedfor 2.5€ per person to the end of the aqueduct, there u will enjoy great views and the English gardens.
The biggest royal palace of the world! Amazing place with wonderful Gardens and full of masterpiece! U will love! In front of caserta train station
Beautiful place. One of the most beautiful cultural assets in all of southern Italy. Unfortunately poorly managed. It would be necessary to place signs and create a path especially in the English garden. loved it.
beautiful place, better with comfortable shoes, as there is a lot of walking. the manicured gardens and a wonderful view of the palace from above. the only flaw is the untreated garden in front, at the entrance
Amazing visit! What a palace. Cannot grasp the size and scale of the project. And the size and views of the garden where magnificent. Worth a day trip from Napoli.
It was better than Napoli palace, Palazzo Reale . It was grand with many more rooms, libraries with some furniture. I definitely recommend it. In the huge garden, they provide complimentary van to take you to the end of the garden. You can get off the van there to see the view. Then take a van back to the palace.
I always heard about this place when I was younger and that I finally came here it was totally worth it. This place is so wonderful I entered right after the lunch time and I left it when it was about to close, to be honest I kind of lost myself in there because how beautiful everything is. I definitely recommend it to everyone you definitely wont regret the hours that youll spend visiting this amazing place
A beautiful building well worth a visit. Very easy to access from Caserta Train Station. The main building, the theatre and the gardens are fantastic. Even on a sunny Saturday in October we felt we were walking in a wonderful place.
Get ready to be excited to see a very special palace of Italian royalty and a very thought out design each room will surprise you. The crystal chandelier has beautiful colors in them. The floors are designed beautifully. The attention to detail is amazing from the ceiling frescoes. Spend the day and take your time seeing the gardens.
