Royal Oak, Great Ayton - in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom
Great meal. Enjoyed by both of us. Drinks a little pricey
Lovely venue, amazing staff flexible with menu. 5 meals all first class would highly recommend.
Lovely food and helpful attentive staff. The food here has been superb for many years.Highly recommended.
Loved this Pub, we dined twice but being my 1st time in Yorkshire, I had to try a traditional roast beef with Yorkshire pudding ...It was amazing and I dont say that lightly as Im a real fan of a roast dinner - Excellent service all round
Really good food and friendly atmosphere, staff were lovely
Nice food, good staff, average real ales
Popped in the Royal Oak,Great Ayton while visiting family. Very homely pub and,no doubt,a very interesting past. Has a small outside drinking area.
There was a party of 4 & although the 2 parmos that were ordered were nice, the steak ordered by one of the group wasnt cooked as asked & part of the chicken was tough. Although half of the price of steak was taken off the bill we will not rush back, seems to be overpriced for what you get.
Ive given an extra star because the staff were very nice as is the location. However worst roast ever. Quarter of a potato, burnt Yorkshire Pudding ( in Yorkshire!), anemic sausages. Food description on menu was not what was served. Vegetables off pictures were mediocre.Parmo and chips looked good.
Came today for a birthday meal , food was very nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful, will definitely go back .
I had a great experience here. The staff were really friendly. The pub is situated in a beautiful part of the world. As I walked in I felt very relaxed and at home. Being a Boro lad I ordered Parmo and it didnt disappoint. Family friendly, dog friendly and generally... Just friendly!
Stopped by for Sunday lunch had a chicken parmo, chips and salad ,the food was lovely ,the staff were lovely, very friendly, and very helpful,,I,ve recommended it to family and friends,I love great Ayton, its twice I,ve visited Royal Oak first time was just for drinks with my sister in law and her husband we sat in the beer garden ,definitely go back,
Enjoyed a drink, beer good, fully booked on a Wednesday so must be good food. π
I may have drawn the short straw as my friends meals were edible. Mine was not. Burnt Yorkshire pudding. Quarter of a roast potato and enimeic sausages. Menu mentioned lyonnaise but there was nothing to be seen even remotely like it. Waitress was very polite but seemed confused about what lyonnaise is. Not her fault. The staff were lovely and very friendly.Guessing youd get a better meal theyre another time
Friendly pub that dates back to the 17th century. Sited in the village of Great Ayton opposite the village green. Has fires and substantial, chunky beams. Also does accommodation. Dog friendly establishment. Originally a coaching inn, so a place of character. Handpulled cask beers were Wainwright, Timothy Taylors Landlord, Theakston Old Peculier and Theakston Summit Cold Pale Ale. Wainwrights is always a goodly drop. Id call again when in this village, yep.
Lovely pub in great location serving lovely food and friendly staff
We visited on Monday for a meal and got half price main course! Result!!Food was delicious π
Me, and my family popped in for tea, just on spec on 15/6/22..it was busy with a lovely atmosphere, we were welcomed warmly by the staff., a table was quickly found for us in the restaurant at the back, which was lovely and slightly quieter than at the front, although we have sat there also at times and is really lovely. We all ordered fish and chips and mushy peas for two of us, garden peas were offered to one of our party despite not being on the menu as they didnt like mushy peas which was a lovely gesture. The pub was busy, lots of meals going out, which all looked lovely, we only waited about fifteen minutes before three huge plates of freshly cooked fish and chips arrived, the chips were real homemade chips, the cod was large, chunky and white and very tasty, encased in a light crispy bubbly batter... Well worth the Β£14.99 price... A perfect meal, washed down with a cold pint of Amstel Beer in a relaxed and comfortable setting
Had Just the best Sunday lunch, thank you to the staff also π
Great food, and friendly staff. They are very switched on when it comes to allergens, and catered well for our daughter. We love coming here, the roast dinners and chicken parmesan are amazing! We have never stayed in the rooms so cannot truthfully rate them.
Lovely well cooked pub grub! We had the Parmo chicken with caramelised onion and goats cheese and the large was LARGE! The staff were all great and will definitely be visiting again. 10/10
Good lunch, very friendly staff and good value
Hadnt been here in years (at least 13and couldnt remember why. Food was really good classic pub food. Staff very friendly and gave excellent service. Have 3 kids and all enjoyed their meals. Cant wait to go back
Nice place with a friendly welcome.Food was nice and the Parmo is large. Nice pint to wash it down.
A very warm welcome. We were seated immediately for our Sunday lunch. Good range even for a fussy veggie like me.
Sophie was an absolute star! Warm and welcoming and is an asset to you. She ensured our pup Charlie was looked after with treats and water . food was amazing too. Overall a great place to visit and very dog friendly with their own special menu. Nothing was to much trouble Thank you and well done!!
The staff were very friendly and helpful 100%and more.food was fantastic
Rooms were nice, clean and comfy. The staff were very helpful.Food was Really good, place can be busy.Great Ayton is a nice friendly North Yorks Village.Only let down is parking outside hotel not great.
Had lovely Sunday dinner here & so did our cocker spaniel π
Lovely place, definitely choose the beer garden if its a nice day as its a sun trap, food also excellent and reasonably priced, probably going to stay for the night next time.
Comfortable, warm and well-presented rooms. Cramped bathroom with chuggy pipes. Friendly and accommodating staff. Good food. Would happily stay there again.
We stopped off after a walk up Roseberry Topping on a hot Easter Saturday.Had two beers which were cool and refreshing in the beer garden at the back. The staff were friendly and welcoming and very kind towards the dog. Would definitely visit again.
Stayed here for 2days. Lovely staff, sunday lunch and breakfast were excellent. Room was lovely and clean bathroom
Popped in for a quick bite to eat. Tasty food. Didnt stay, so havent rated the rooms.
Thank you for excellent service, really accommodating staff, I cant thank you all highly enough. All your facilities for our group of 10 with a wheelchair and a baby, were very great. The best baby changing area ever! Our meal and whole visit was all delightful.
Ideal for a drink and food after a hike. Plenty parking nearby tooπ Can get busy so probably best to book a table or you can wait with a drink in the beer garden. Dog friendly tooπ
Stayed for 2 nights. Nice room with a comfy double bed. Clean bathroom we were given a selection of toiletries at check in. Lovely friendly staff in dining room for evening meal and breakfast next day. Attracts a nice cross section of local families dining and others like us in couples. Always seemed to have a nightly food offer. Sadly missed out on the parmo offer! Love parmo!
Always go there . Efficient friendly staff. The Royal Oak caters for a wide variety of clientele and provides a perfect warm environment in which to serve its fine ales and superb food .
Situated on the Great Ayton High St. Rustic setting inside and very attentive staff. Quite big establishment, mostly frequented by locals. Popular area for visitors, who come here in quest of serene English rural scene. Gt. Ayton High St has other amenities such as a Chemist, Grocery, cafe, etc. Do come and visit it and support small rural Local English Businesses.
Had a lovely meal here .The staff were all so lovely .look forward to my next visit as we will certainly go again .
Beautiful ,cosy ,warm and friendly place ,service was excellent as was the food ,beef dinner was amazing and parmo was tasty and value for money ,nothing was too much trouble ,cant wait for my next visit ,well done royal oak .
Lovely place, very clean, comfortable, friendly and good food. Unfortunately our room was over the kitchen and as the TV wasnt working we were subjected to thumping music from the kitchen until just after 9pm. Not a very relaxing stay which is what we were after
Nice B&B for the price. Beers are a bit expensive and the kitchen smells can be a bit overpowering in the rooms.Rooms are basic but nice.No TV when we stayed due to local mast being down.
Relaxing lunch with family although need more vegetarian options as l wouldnt want to keep ordering the sweet potato curry. Plenty of options for others within our group. Staff helpful.
Sunday lunch was ok for the most part. Yorkshires were a bit tough and stuffing, Well I dont know what they did with it but slop comes to mind. Staff were pleasant just didnt comminicste with each other very well leading to order mix ups
Staff are lovely. Food was amazing. Inside decor is not what u expect when u walk through the door. Very modern mixed with some Old πFood service I felt at some point of waiting, was a little on the slow side, but will not complain it, as when it arrived you could tell it was freshly cooked. Beautiful food guys ππ
Friendly pub serving delicious food (we had two chicken dishes - both amazingly tasty). Staff were helpful and friendly. Came here on a Monday night - busy with diners - always a good sign! Would happily eat here again (and again)!
Excellent service. Fitted us in when they were busy and with no notice. Moved us to a larger table to allow room for the enormous plates of food. Couldnt have been kinder. Quick service. Food fab, hence clean plates π€π
Stopped off here for a couple of lagers one hot, sunny afternoon (August 2021). Liked the look of the place inside and out, so decided to take family to dinner there the next evening. It was very busy when we arrived at half 7 but they found a table for the 7 of us. I figured service would be slow, but found it to be pretty quick actually (maybe 10-15 mins between ordering and meals arriving). Food was very good too. Three of us opted for the vegan curry that got better with each mouthful and the royal Oak raspberry trifle was pretty good too. No complaints about the food or the service. Thank you to all the staff (seen and unseen), especially Mike whose calm, friendly, easy going, relaxed attitude to his work made it a very enjoyable evening for all of us. Would definitely recommend a visit
A lovely pub with plenty of helpful staff and tasty food. We popped in for an early evening meal. I had the Lamb Shank from the specials board, and it was delicious. The meat just fell off the bone and reminded me of a Greek dish Kleftiko.
