Royal Canadian Mint - Museum in Selkirk, Canada
Had a wonderful time. All my queries were answered politely and lucidly. Would have loved to spend more time, if I had had the time.
Pretty cool tour but very quick. Staff was super friendly. I feel the gift store section need to be revamped.
Very nice to visit. We did the self guided tour which was good, but was less informational. The building is just beautiful.
One of the best places in Canada to visit in my opinion. Money is something that we deal with every day and rarely think about where it comes from or how its made. The tour is not only educational but fascinating. I highly recommend visiting this treasure if you are in Winnipeg and have the time to see it.
Until now, I was under the belief that different countries owned their own mint. I was surprised to learn the the Royal Canadian mint acted as the mint for so many different countries. The mint offers visitors an opportunity to learn and understand the value and purpose of minting .To me , its an opportunity to improve on real investments. The sales staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we could not stay for the tour. This was our last day in Winnipeg and there were still some places of interest still to be visited.
Beautiful but a bit small in the shopping area. You can book a tour at some different intervals during the day at around $ 8-10/ pax. No picture taking is allowed of the factory. You can buy some gold coin as souvenir of up to $5000. This place is closed on Sunday .
A very cool and interesting place. I absolutely love watching the parades of flag its very entertaining. Its a must visit if you are in Winnipeg.
Absolutely hands down worth finding this iconic location. Take the tour, embrace the vast amount of money made here daily. Totally a cool place to make part of your travel plans in Winnipeg. Cheers, Spicy Jan
This is a must go place where you witness production of coins. Was lucky enough to witness production of coins 🪙 for another country in process. There is need to book in advance so as to enjoy the guided tour. You can also enjoy the free unguided tour anytime you visit. Souvenirs include 1 carat crushed gold in a cute small bottle as well as gold and/or silver coins
Have yet to stop in person, but thought I’d share some pieces that came from the RCM!
The tour guide was condescending when group members had questions. I dont know why she asked if the group had questions. Eg. One person had a ..question that was going to be answered later in the tour. She told the person thay question will be answered later then told them" youre getting ahead of yourself" ?How were they supposed to know that. Another person asked if the mint would do crypto. She said "No" then proceeded to tell them the definition of the word Mint. She should look up "mintchip". Its a digital payment platform used by the RCM. Very rude.
If you like learning more about coins and the minting process, its a great place to visit and get a tour. Learn about how wr almost had a "canooey" haha
A wonderful museum by the Canadian Mint, showing how coins are made here in the location and they even have a gold bar (secured by an armed guard too!that you can see right near the exit. Its a fun tour through the manufacturing process or Canadian and other countries coins!
Took the family here for the 45min tour and had a wonderful informative experience. For a cheap activity definitely head to the Mint and take the tour. Not aloud to take pics of the op so go see for yourself.
I was there on a Wednesday morning tour. The young lady was knowledgeable. Not a lot to the $10 tour. However when asked about the coin made in 2020 promoting front line workers she didnt seem to think it was worth talking about? I was a bit disappointed how she just brushed it off. Were all exhausted with the pandemic but I think it should have at least been mentioned. I had to ask her about it? Its not like there was so much information to go through. It was roughly a 45 minute tour which seemed like she had to stretch it. Interesting though. Not sure if Id be boasting to all my friends.
The machines were closed when I went usually during the week the machines are running you can take any pictures or videos on the inside the outside is very beautiful there’s lots of geese walking around with your babies and you can buy coins at the gift shop
I never realized that we manufactured coins for so many countries! Great gift store, knowledgeable tour guides! All around memorable experience!
Enjoyed our stop and tour. Felt a bit rushed but everyone was friendly and they were particularly nice with kids (there was a small outdoor scavenger hunt). Impressive Canadian business.
We went on a Wednesday around 11am. We had to wait for the next tour at 1145am, tour lasted 45 mins. No pictures or videos allowed of upstairs/on tour. My family enjoyed it (including my almost 16yo teenager). Good value for money. We bought a couple souvenirs in the gift shop as well. There is no cafeteria or food here, just a pop vending machine. Water fountain was taped off (covid)? Rachelle our tour guide was clear, even with her n95 mask on.
Very unique looking building! Highly recommend going on a tour (better to go on a weekday so you can see the machines working). The gift shop has some unique collector coins to buy. Loved the little tidbits of information from the tour.
Such a cool spot. I loved the tour and history given during this tour. I couldnt believe it was only $7 to enter.
Ray (a staff member at the Boutiquewas excellent! He answered all of our questions and was very accommodating to myself my friend who was visiting from Calgary. The mint is a must-see location for anyone coming to Winnipeg!
Awesome tour - et en français! We really enjoyed it and the little shop is very nice too!
Nice place, the tour guide team is awesome.
Was on weekend tour so nothing operating. I assume the weekday tour would be more engaging.
We are tempted to make unhappy comparisons between here and the very large nickel in Sudbury and the only thing giving them 2 stars is that the people of Manitoba are wonderful and friendly. Mo money mo problems!
Always love going there when we visit Winnipeg. Ample parking and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Took the tour about 6 years ago. Has to be on my list for next visit. Very unique gifts for everyone. Numismatic coins, t-shirts, and other souvenirs.
We had a great visit here. Be sure to call ahead for a reservation for a tour. They book up. But its well worth it. Informative presentation, yet with lots of fun little stories and tidbits to keep it interesting. Highly recommend it!
Unique building, good tour
Suitable for child to visit.
A must visit location in Winnipeg where the coins of a number of counties are minted. The process of minting and the stages of development of the institution are well documented and displayed here. Quite interesting and highly informative.
Must visit attractions in Winnipeg, only mint in western Canada and 2nd in Canada after Ottawa.
We loved the Royal Canadian mint tour. It was worth the ticket money we paid. Our guide, Ray was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and made it fun for everyone. We recommend taking the weekday tour as you can see the coins being manufactured LIVE.
Tour was really informative. Guide was energetic, engaging and knowledgeable. Great value. Would definitely recommend this to visit when in Winnipeg.
The tour was very informative and the staff very knowledgeable. We learned so much we never knew…I had no idea they minted for so many other countries! Thanks for the information!
Staff went above and beyond and were very knowledgeable regarding coins etc in the gift shop area. Tour was informative but not boring. Clean area with picnic spots as well.
One of the most iconic structures and government owned business in Canada. The coins that they design are rated as the best in the world. Sadly some of the coins are priced too high making it out of reach of most collectors. They also provide large discounts to volume buyers or people with deep pockets, while leaving the smaller fish or people who can only set aside a small amout to fend for themselves at regular price with no discount at all. Not fair, especially for the fact that we are in Canada where supposedly equal rights prevail, or at least are existint on paper. RCM if you read this please review your policies, provide a fair and level playing field for all to do business in fairly, with no special treatment to some, while ignoring the others.
Good place to visit while in Winnipeg because there are only 2 in Canada. 45 min tours on the hour every hour. Must call to reserve time slot. Learned a lot about coins made here. Great educational visit for kids. Tour guide was very informative.
Although no machinery was operating our tour guide, Katie, seemed very well-versed on the history and details of the Royal Canadian Mint. Very educational and interesting.
The staff is very nice and have so much knowledge about this museum. (Great service!)It’s interesting what will you see here but kinda boring (not interactive at all), i think is better weekday so you can see people making money.Oh and it’s FREE! Unless you wish a guided tour.
We signed up for a tour. The tour was quite informative. Spoiler alert!.......I had no idea this mint makes coins for other countries and they were one of the first to put ink on coins. For obvious security reasons youre not going to get up close to the coin making operation, but its still pretty neat to see the operation through upstairs glass. Theres lots of special edition coins in the gift shop for the avid collector with prices from $10-$500+. The flag display up front is great for pictures and represent all the countries the mint has made coins for.
The tour takes visitors through an enclosed corridor above the workshops where the coin minting process takes place. Visitors can witness all stages of the minting process, and will learn about all the well engineered features of coins that are desiito make them more durable, easily identifiable by the visually impaired. Engaging and educational! You can also purchase some custom made coins in the lobby as well as touch and lift a gold bar worth 880k CDN! This mint produces coins for around 70 countries.
An amazing location to tour and see how coins are made, not just in Canada but internationally. Cat is the best tour guide.
I have been at Royal Mint on free dinosor event with my family. There were free activities for kids like face paiting, balloons, coloring pages. We saw a manufacture area and a huge collection of coins I have never seen.
Interesting Place to visit. Beautiful and interesting architecture with many windows and plenty light inside the structure. The production is in spacious and rather airy parts of the building and can be watched via huge windows inside the building.Photographie is forbidden inside and during the guided tour.Visit is recommended.
Well worth the trip. Interesting guided tour. Lots of facts about coins and money you would never guess. Try lifting an actual bar of real gold, no kidding. The gift shop has some out of this world coins for sale. Oh and they range in price from a few dollars to Thousands.
Great experience to see all the equipment used to mint all the circulation coins. Good place for currency enthusiasts. There are also free self guided tours and paid guided tours one can take around their facility. I would recommend to visit during weekdays as you can see the machinery running.they also have a small shop where you can buy limited edition coins and souvenirs.
Unfortunately we came too late. The Royal Mint was closed. But the building and the territory around it are really impressive. In front of the building there are lots flags of the countries Royal Canadian Mint made coins for.It wasn’t easy to find where the visitors’ parking, be attentive.
I thought it would be more exciting but it was rather plain. However, what excitement could there really be in money. There was at least some interesting information and innovation. Tour times are too sparse and when I checked online I did not see times. We were unwilling to wait so we just walked around and read the signs for ourselves. All the souvenirs were very expensive. Some items did look pretty cool though. The building is very beautiful.
Great place to have a look around and they have a shop so you can get unique gifts. There isnt too much to do once youve seen it but it is worth the trip. We decided not to pay for the tour as it was pretty pricey and I think it was the right decision because you can go up and have a look anyway. Lovely day out. Well maintained place.
