Roy Hotel & Restaurant - in Freetown, Sierra Leone
I do not recommend this hotel. we were allocated a room in which the windows could not be opened and were covered with frosted glass foil. In front of the window there is equipment that constantly caused a disturbing noise, even at night. I suspect in laymans terms it may be the air conditioning. However, I found the noise to be unacceptably disturbing, as well as the impossibility of opening a window - on the 1st floor. I have never received such a bad room in London in this price range. The continental breakfast was not such. There was only a la carte choice with no minimum continental breakfast choices. And that although in a second restaurant purely English breakfast is offered. we had breakfast twice in the hotel, once in each restaurant. Both times we found it to be insufficient and both times the tables were sticky. for us: once and never again
Staff is amazingly attentive. They think of everything and offer a lot. I was beyond happy with my stay. The concierge was supreme. The rooms and cleaning are great. Two great restaurants with excellent options.
I stayed at the Kimpton Fitzroy this past weekend and it was a nice stay. The Galvin restaurant attached with the hotel was exceptional. Even from checking in with Andrea, to checkout, the people assisting guests are all friendly and helpful. Gunther helped me with getting a cab to the airport and helped me with my luggage while checking out. Thanks again for the pleasant stay!
The only thing 5* about this hotel is the price. The rooms are tired and ours has an extremely impractical layout. When we arrived at our room there were old dirty cups left outside from the guests before. There’s no turndown service, none of the apps or screen sharing on the hotel tv work (when asking reception they said it just doesn’t work in all rooms??).No good amenities. They offer an in room massage which is exactly the same as urban massage, except they charge £130 and you can’t choose your practitioner. There was a long and very loud fire alarm at 9:30am on Saturday morning, which we were not warned about. Not very relaxing.Service is apathetic and lacklustre all round. Finally, to add salt to the wound, the whole reason we chose to stay here is because we have visited Fitz’s bar a fair few times and it has become a very special place to us. It has also become a tradition to visit on my birthday, and as it was my 30th birthday, my partner thought it would be extra special to be able to grab a drink there and then head upstairs to our own room without the worry of getting home.We went for a drink at Fitz’s bar at 11:55, after returning from a night on the British Pullman (which was wonderful and faultless). To our disappointment we were turned away due to “last orders being called” even though the bar is advertised as being open until 1am. The staff were extremely arrogant and dismissive even when we asked just to sit in the bar for the ambience without ordering a drink. We were treated with such disregard, and it has completely ruined our positive associations with this place which was once very special to us.Do not recommend at all. Such a shame it put a dampener on what should have been a very special day.
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff. Amazing location, used as base whilst at Excell conference. With Elizabeth line making it incredibly easy and a huge step up in quality from the hotels closer to Excell. Really lovely, spacious room, only wished Id stayed longer!
Not sure how this is a five star hotel - was here for a work trip and the size of the room made it difficult to work, there was no ironing board or a proper closet, carpets were dirty, staff was unable to upgrade me to a different room despite multiple asks but a colleague who booked and checked in 2 days after me and was able despite the fact that I was told there was no availability. (Our checkout date was the same)
An unbelievable place. Steeped in history with reminders from the classic Titanic era. The Ballroom is out of this World. The young Lady from the Events Team was so polite, offered us all a drink and the best thing was the time offered .I cannot fault this place hence its 5 Stars for everything from me. The perfect Hotel to stay. Rooms, Suites and facilities a definite 10 out of 10
Stellar! Kimpton Fitzroy manages to give a five-star experience that is warm and attentive without being overbearing and stuffy. I had a 5-night business stay and my first night’s room was a basic queen with no proper desk, so manager Aristedes upgraded me to larger, park-facing, quiet-due-to-double-pane windows room for the next four nights without hesitation. Cheery, well-trained staff, charming bars, wonderful food at Burr, plus 24-hour room service. Just out of the noise and congestion of Central London. Perfect for lovers of the British Museum and Library, and the unpretentious restaurants and coffee shops of Bloomsbury.
I’ve enjoyed staying at the Kimpton Fitzroy. I had a premium queen room and it was large and comfortable. Bath area was also large for London. An elegant hotel in a good location (2 min walk to Russell Square tube stationon the Piccadilly line and if you’re game, you can get it directly from Heathrow.
This hotel is a work of art. Only things that would need to be done is a deep steam clean for the room carpets as there were some stains that can be removed. Other is some removal of scuffs on the room walls.
We had our wedding at the Kimpton Fitzroy London at the weekend. We had exclusive use of Palm Court and the Ballroom for our party of 150 people. A selection of our guests also taking rooms for the weekend.Wow, this is the most amazing venue we could have wished for. It was perfect in every single way. Venue, location, food, service, everything! We searched high and low and found this to be the best option and boy, they did not disappoint. The hotel staff in general were unreal. The service was excellent from start to finish. The staff so personable and friendly. Going beyond the call of duty and doing anything to be of assistance.Specifically, we had Radhika manage and plan our big day. We’d give her 100 out of 10 if we could. She was an absolute joy to deal with and professional in every way. A total credit to the hotel. The guest relationship manager was praised by many of our guests. He is such a lovely kind man who also went above and beyond to make us and our guests feel welcome.Lorraine managed the team on the day for our wedding breakfast and evening party. She was also amazing and very accommodating in every way. This is the most beautiful venue inside and out. The photos and videos are incredible. The stunning classy interiors and lighting are simply unmatched, I have never stepped foot in a hotel that has it all in the way this one does. (And I have been to lots of lovely hotels around the world). If you are planning a vacation, wedding or function, you seriously need not look anywhere else. You will be so pleased with your decision. Service like this is hard to find these days, we are so pleased we found you…. Thank you team Kimpton Fitzroy London, YOU ARE THE BEST.
The Kimpton is a lovely hotel. The staff are great as soon as you walk towards the door. Very helpful and friendly. The room was great although a little far from the lifts. The room was spacious but the TV wasnt working correctly and as a result room service wasnt available as I couldnt get a menu. They said they would bring up a paper menu that never arrived so I had to go down and order at reception which was irritating. They did take the room service off the bill though which was nice.
My daughter had her wedding reception at Kimpton and the service we received was absolutely faultless. Thr staff couldnt have been more helpful and attentive. Special shout out to Gunther. Thanks for making it a fabulous day!!!
The team at Kimpton are thoughtful, professional and friendly - how hotels should be, but rarely are. We were congratulated on it being a week since our wedding when we arrived - something we hadnt thought about. The room was stunning and had everything youd want and more - even a yoga mat! Kimpton hotels are super dog friendly - we took our dog @lilahthewhippet and theres no limit on the type of pet or amount of pets you can take. They have a dog walking service so that you can relax and enjoy your dinner - Lilah fell in love with the dog walker at first sight. They are also amazing with food intolerance - I didnt have to repeat my intolerance every time I say down to eat. We went to Galvins Restaurant for dinner and they knew I am dairy free and catered to it perfectly. The sommelier was also great. I highly recommend staying at Kimpton Fitzroy both for staycations or for visiting London.
- Location is convenient and centralized. Near Russell Square underground subway station (2-3 mins walk from the station), walking distance to the British Museum and other famous lansmarks- Clean hotel and room- Greetings were warm throughout the hotel from entrance, reception, restaurant, bar and housekeeping team (keep it up!)- Didnt experience racism as Asian Chinese which I have in other better and more luxurious hotels in London. (Good culture within the hotel management and team, keel it up!)Highly recommended for the centralized location, overall hassle free and reasonable price to stay in London
I loved my stay here. The building was beautiful, my room was comfy, and the staff was very nice. Would stay here again the next time Im in London!
Wow!A proper luxury hotel. It is furnished with marble staircases, adorned with crystal chandeliers, and a beautiful mosaic in the entrance hall. The staff were really friendly, and attentive. They let us have a look in the dining rooms before service, and looked after our bags on early arrival and late checkout. The room was clean, had lots of amenities including a nespresso machine and a fridge. Theyd even put out some petit four for our anniversary. We had the side street view from the windows of our room, letting lots of light into the room, and with thick curtains to block out the light in the early hours. The bathroom was spot on, clean, and the waterfall walk in shower was lovely!Breakfast was very tasty and hot, we ordered off the menu, but I think we could have had the buffet. Its fine dining. There are 3 dining rooms, we tried The Galvin Bar and Grill. Designed by the same designer as the Titanic, so Im told.We didnt try the gym, but did have a look through the door. It looked to have technogym equipment. On checkout, Gunther the Manager gave us two bottles of water to take with us, and thanked us for our stay. The door men offered to order a taxi for us, which we politely declined as the Russel Square tube station is 30 seconds around the corner.Would stay again.
Where do I begin? This hotel exceeded my and my husbands expectations. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and I would even go as far to say opulent. When we arrived we were put in and ADA queen room. I didn’t think much of it, but my husband checked our original reservation and we had booked a superior king room with a park view. He went down to let them know about the mix up. Doreen helped to sort everything out and to make up for the error, comped us a suite. We have never felt so cared for in the hospitality realm as we did from Doreen and the rest of the staff at Kimpton Fitzroy. We will always always stay here when we visit London going forward as a result of her and her teams exceptional service. As far as we are concerned, this is the best hotel in London. I would also like to say that every staff member at this hotel was exceptional from the door man to concierge to management. They know what they’re doing here.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much. Exceptional staff and service. We stayed for a week with breakfast included. Breakfast was at Galvins every morning with great options for buffet or a la carte. Beautiful facility and easy access to the tube (Piccadilly line). Clean facility and bed was comfortable. Appreciate the daily housekeeping. Best hotel experience we ever had! This was our home away from home. We will definitely come back and stay here when visiting London.
Stayed at this hotel for three nights during our stay to London. The stay was overall satisfactory, but the lower rating is due to the extraordinary cost this property charges, and what is offered is simply not up to par.For our room, we booked the essential room, and it was within expectation that it was absolutely tiny. We are talking about only having enough room for a bed, and thats about it. However, it was well appointed and cozy. The washroom itself is very nice, though the shower controls were finicky, the rainfall shower head would drip ice cold water the whole time even if you had it off, and the shower wand is very difficult to take off and put back. The first 2 nights of our stay were uneventful, however, the third night we had loud music (wedding?blasting until 11pm or midnight. It was so loud and clear we could make out exactly which song it was the whole night. Not the best experience. As a 5 star hotel charging a premium over other 5 stars, I expected the service to match that. However, the level of service I received honestly is no better than a marriott or other mainstream hotel chains. This became especially apparent that another hotel we checked into the day after, costing one third of this place, provided significantly better service.Overall, if this was a marriott or hyatt, charging mainstream price, this wouldve been a solid stay. However, there is simply no way I can recommend this property at the price they charge.
Beautiful hotel with comfortable spacious rooms and bathrooms. Location was perfect. Wonderful breakfast and service. Everything felt so nice and luxurious, a solid 5 star experience!
Stayed here for a week in July 2022 for a work trip - Great hotel with great service! Loved the proximity of its location that it was walkable to large parts of the touristy areas in London while not being too central so it was nice to escape to the quiet after a long day.I would definitely check out Fitz Bar on the ground floor - it had a nice speakeasy vibe to the bar with a very cool drink menu!
A first class hotel in London, that is well located with access to the tube just 60m away. The facilities were excellent and I will most likely return to stay when next in London. The only downside was the attitude and arrogance of the staff in the Fitzs bar. I and my daughter after 20 minutes were rudely ejected from the bar because my daughter was 14. Which in the year of 2022 is apparently not their desire to have anyone one of that age in their particular facility. This, even though she was under my care, guidance and being very quiet. They really need to rid themselves of this draconian old world policy and catch up with the times, plus have the service staff lose the attitude. The room we had was on the small side, whereby we had to place our suitcases in the ensuite, as the wardrobe was too small and we had limited floor space in the bedroom to accommodate them. Maybe we were given this room as it was booked through Qantas frequent flyer points. On a positive note the reception staff were superb as were the hospitality staff in the other facilities at the hotel. The decor and design throughout were beautiful and very endearing on the eye.
Overpriced 3 star hotel masquerading as a 5 star hotel. Pretending to be something it’s not.Whilst the building is iconic and architecturally impressive the substance inside is lacking considerably. The staff are friendly but slightly robotic in dealing with guests.Room service comes with a 2 hour lead time. The rooms are small, unclean with a funny smell and wildly overpriced.Customer service is just rude and disrespectful. In my opinion the hotel is a slight to the IHG brand and should be closely looked at by management. Upon contacting reception directly to voice my concerns I was told to email instead as they were too busy.It has made me question my brand loyalty to IHG.
As IHG platinum elite members we have always received acknowledgment of this status when booking and arriving at IHG properties I.e upgrade is usual, early check in is usual and late checkout is normal. We were not given any of these and they had our booking over 2 months prior. Room was somewhat tired - carpet rather worn.No upgrade as full. No late checkout as full - even though the booking engine would let me book a room!Their apology script seemed very well rehearsed so I rather think that any IHG member would not get any benefits either. On a separate note, the breakfast was adequate but lacking much selection for a supposedly 5 star hotel. The staff were nice and polite, Fritz- the bar was great. Overall it has the makings to be a great London Classic 5 star hotel however I wouldnt rate it as that currently and certainly not worth the nightly rate they charge.Tip: replace worn carpets, look after your highest level customers. Add more items to breakfast buffet.
Highly recommend it !The Concierge is very helpful and all the staff very polite. We stayed in a four people spacious room. Very clean, with two different breakfast rooms. The Fitz bar was just great, so classic British, just perfect.I would like to have more breakfast buffet options. A great overall experience!
I had an amazing experience with this hotel! Starting from booking with the hotel, was a breeze getting out hotel rooms together, the dates that we needed and the rooms that we wanted! We traveled from the states so we needed transportation to the hotel from the airport. Our ride never showed, Roy from the concierge at the hotel took care of us when we arrived and could not have asked for better service with him! The hotel is beautiful, from the rooms, to the restaurants to the lounges. All around great! If you are visiting London soon this hotel I would highly recommend!
I spent one night here on a business trip. Very good location. As others have said I found my room quite small, I can see it would be on the slightly uncomfortable side for two people sharing, however very clean and nicely furnished. Special thanks to Angela at the front desk whose (very patienthelp delivered with a friendly smile made a real difference in my stay.
Im a Kimpton Inner Circle - Ive stayed in Kimptons all over. Its still quite rare, especially in summer 2022, to find people who still go above and beyond. Jas, the night manager, did exactly that. I had an outrageous request I expected he wouldnt be able to fulfill, and he did exactly that. Im so impressed with this property. There are many gorgeous hotels in London, but this one is special - and so are its people.
Horrible experience. Bathroom hardware is loose and hard to operate. Staff is slow to respond and NEVER answers the phone. EVER. Unaccommodating with simple requests. The front desk is unmanned at odd times and dismissive of questions, constantly looking down at a computer doing something else while you’re trying to speak with them. Just not what I expected from a hotel like this. Disappointed. And with as many hotels London has to offer, I’d chose another one.
Friendly and professional staff, loved the location near the underground and across from the park. Breakfast was delightful and the rooms were clean! Will be planning another stay soon!
Remember to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking your stay. This web site will compare thousands of booking websites and usually will have rates a lot cheaper than others! Thank me later on! This resort is one of the best in this area. I have been staying here for a very long time. If you choose this place you definitely wont regret it.Lovely hotel. Beautiful room and facilities. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The Galvin restaurant, the Fitz bar are fantastic and the Palm court is a beautiful place to relax. All in all a great hotel and we had a fantastic Valentine weekend stay. Would definitely return.
The decor was great but room was not 5 star standard, very small and not much thought had gone into the layout. No where for my wife to do her hair in front of a mirror with plug socket for drying/straightening her hair. Also lack of plug sockets in the room which meant I had to move all the furniture just to iron my clothes. The room was not replenished for the three days we were there with tea and coffee. Breakfast was ok but not wow. Service was terrible and really slow, waited 25-30 minutes each morning just for a coffee and never had a warm one with our food. Not worth the money they charge for what the hotel provide.
Basic room. Beautiful but small and the shower head is impossible to get under without crouching if you are a tall person. The bed and pillows was very nice.Perfect location with a park just outside if you need a break from the city. The interior of the hotel is very nice.Although the staff is friendly and service minded there seems to be processes in place that results in slow service. The computers causes delays at the front desk, the breakfast & coffee took way too long before being served.
The hotel looks amazing with a lot of details , located near a tube. The hotel staff is charming and helpful at any time. The only thing that did not fit the standard of a five star hotel was the very limited choice of breakfast.I stayed at the hotel for five days and ate the same dish every morning.Besides, the hotel is stunning, the staff are charming, the rooms are spacious and quiet.Do not forget to visit the hotel bar, one of the best bars I have seen in London!!!
I booked 2 rooms with the IHG booking service some weeks in advance in person for myself and family members and was assured that the rooms would be interconnecting . When I arrived at approx 9pm I was told that the rooms were not interconnecting and not even on the same floor. My complaint was dismissed because they were full that night. I got the impression it was 1st come 1st served with little interest in what the customer originally requested or whether they were IHG members or not.The room was quite comfortable and in general the staff were very helpfulThe buffet breakfast was adequate but the cooked food was lukewarm as was the coffee. Not really acceptable for a 5 star hotel. To cap it all I have now been charged an extra £50 for each room with no explanation whyas I had nothing extra apart from room service which was charged separately.Would I stay there again no, would I recommend it to anyone no, am I going to still be an IHG member no.
Have nothing but great things to write about the Fitz. The room was clean, comfy, quiet. Fancy toiletries that made you wanna shower 5 times a day.The staff was attentive, service was über quick from check in to check out.The breakfast was delicious and rich with a buffet and a la carte options."The Fitz" open till the wee hours serves delicious handcrafted cocktails with a fun twist, and the social hour at The Galvin provided a great opportunity to chat with other hotel guests. Moreover, while the experience felt luxurious it never felt stiff; We felt comfortable, welcomed and very much at ease at all time.Thank you for making our weekend in London unforgettable,See you soon :DNatalie A and Jesper Hallgren from Stockholm
Beautiful hotel with well designed interiors. The room was a good size. The bed was comfortable. One feedback would be to raise the side of the shower stall a bit. This is because each time I showered the bathroom floor became flooded. Overall it was a pleasant 2 nights stay and the location is excellent. The staff while friendly could be better trained to take the service level up another level.
On two separate, recent occasions, I spent a week here on business. I love consistency in my stays so wanted to give it one more go. This is a solid 4. The staff are very friendly, the breakfast experience was nice, and overall ambiance is lovely. The rooms are TINY for the price they charge. If you are traveling as, with a briefcase or carry on, you will be fine. Anything bigger and you will need to make some decisions on what furniture to move around. I was hoping I got a one off bad room, but no - most of their rooms in this category are basic cubicles. Rooms are well appointed and bed is comfy. So if you need a hotel that is lovely and don’t mind the room size/view, this is a good choice. I will not be staying here on my next visit as I do appreciate a larger room for the price I paid and there are other similar options available.
Great location and friendly staff. Let me check in 3 hours early which was greatly appreciated after an overnight flight.Be warned the images on the website can be misleading.Booked a room with floor to ceiling windows directly across from the square. 100 pounds extra but would be a nice treat…..except room is nothing like the image when booking. Inquired with the check in staff and was told rooms do look different as it’s an old building. Not a train smash but definitely not what I expected.
Overall a beautiful hotel in a very nice location. Very nice staff focused on hospitality. Stayed in the Queen premium room park view which was very small for two people. The room itself was nicely designed and comfortable, but with very little space to live around. Bathroom was as pictured , and the walk in rainfall shower was plenty big enough for me at 6’7”! Hot water pressure was pretty bad however.Fitz’s bar was a nice first evening start. Small bites of food were very tasty, scotch egg, steak skewers and the best being the parmesan fries!Breakfast staff in the Galvin were super nice and accommodating. The omelette was the best meal I had there, eggs Benedict was disappointing!Overall beautiful property, comfortable and the staff were a highlight. For the price, wish the room was larger.
Great location. Amazing beautiful historical building and great facilities. Good size room (we had a deluxe double beds room). Restaurants were great with professional staff but the rest of staff such as cleaners who forgot to fill fridge at times or receptionist who was not attentive and engaging were a bit disappointing.
