Roadside museum devoted to the history & artifacts of Route 66 & the Mojave Desert communities.
Great stop on the road and the people running it are so nice!
Beautiful place. Pretty cool history. Lots of neat stuff to look at and interesting facts. NASA has a little museum in here too.
So much information and very well displayed
Great place and a must to visit for anyone travelling Route 66
Very interesting memorabilia. Just not showcased well. Very small with an enormous amount of items to see
Great little museum and it is free. Jukebox works. Wish it was in a larger building. They have some great displays like a Ford mustang convertible, gas pump, motorcycle, and other memorabilia. Great route 66 items for sale at a decent price.
Great place to reminisce and others to learn. Nice collection of antiques. And, a real working jukebox with the old 45s
All kinds of cool trains outside!
Very good experience, lots of history. Tons of photos and stories to learn. I would come by again if in the area.
Stop by to learn some great history, spent some time going thru all the photos and artifacts.
This is a great place to visit, they have so many historical things and they also have lots of souvenirs. Great customer service!!!
Nice museum and gift shop. The people that run it are very nice too.
I was there 4 years ago.I love it. Beautiful! So many thinghs about the "Mother Road" history.Pins, hats, coffee cups,books..For Route 66 💚 lovers.
Deb was great to talk with today :The museum has many great displays of history from along the Route, and lots of souvenirs, as well as great books with all kinds of historical information!
Great history museumI recommend it to anyoneIf you drive by 15 fwy don’t forget to stop at Barstow
The Route 66 Mother Road Museum is located at the Barstow train station and is a great small museum to visit if in Barstow, travelling the historic Route 66, or visiting the large Barstow train station. There are quite a few historic artifacts and antiques in the museum to see and are organized into certain categories. There is also a gift shop with items to purchase as souvenirs.
I had so much fun and Im glad I came to see this place. Make sure to visit the gift shop for great items at a great price. I paid $20 bucks for a route 66 hoodie.
So much to see inside the museum. Truly a time capsule. If you’re mother-road obsessed then you’d already probably have been here but this is one of the many Harvey houses you find along Route 66.
The museum was closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday, so this review is only for the trains outside. They have about maybe 8-10 old trains display outside the museum. Kids and kids alike may climb up the trains and take lots of pictures! Its a fun little stop for families!
Great historical museum with quite a variety of displays to explore!
Comfortable touring in the wilderness with a small town feel. We experienced the gentle touch of kind locals wanting to help make this an epic stay. Quiet, slow, and reminiscent of a good life in the hot desert. Wow! it was a heater. Takes some getting used to oven based dry heat. Better than humidity in a sense.
Cool place. Friendly staff. Interesting history.
If you like Americana this is a great place.Wonderful and friendly staff.
Really cool place to visit. More to explore in there than it seems from the outside. Great gifts and volunteer staff are really friendly and knowledgeable.
What a great little Route 66 Museum! You dont want to miss this but call to be sure they are open. Its Small but Mighty! The museum displays a collection of historic photographs and artifacts related to Route 66 history and organized into different sections so its easy to view and not crowded. They also have a great selection of Rte 66 T-shirts and other great Rte 66 items for sale in their gift shop!Dont forget to check out the Historic train station and Harvey House its a part of....The Harvey House Railroad Depot was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, great photo opps
Super fun little hidden gem. Lots of awesome souvenirs, kind staff, tons of information on route 66, very cool antiques to look at. Im really glad we stopped here.
Barstow, California. Middle of the desert, is where this architectural beauty sits. No longer open to the public, it seems. The Barstow Harvey house looked vacant, but well maintained. Amazing tall white pillars, arched entry ways and what looks like a ballroom on the inside! I wouldnt make this a destination, but certainly nice to look at while passing through Barstow.
Oh wahoooo super lot of many nice things, new items, they even had free items.Place is awesome all kind of thins here
Stayed in Barstow for the night and decided to go and check out the Museum. It had a sign on the door stating that it was Unexpectedly Closed June 18, 19, 20th. Make sure you call ahead to make sure it will be open prior to your visit.
Nice place in a wonderful building. Thanks to the volunteers!
This museum even if small is filled up with real cool stuff not only strictly related to the Route 66. The entrance is free and the volunteers working there are very happy to give informations and to talk about the history of this famous route. The shop has very nice gifts. The time spent here is very worth.
Nice museum. Free admission. Donations always appreciated. Open Friday to Saturday. 10:00 am to 4 pm. Sunday 10 am - 4 pm.
Cool place with an interesting history of American transport, particularly cars and trains. According to the website, the place is run entirely by volunteers as well. Lots of stuff in the gift shop, a good assortment of memorabilia for the collector.
A worthwhile stop that is 3.5 miles from interstate 15. Most of the history is about Barstow, but there is a lot of Route 66 stuff. Plus you get to visit the free railroad museum next door.
We had a great time looking at the NASA museum. Got a little lost and found this place and very happy we did
Love their vintage items and assorted designs of souvenir ladies and mens tops ! Staff is very friendly and accomodating.
It has free admission but they like you to sign there book. The people who were there were helpful and had a lot of information to give. There was three other Museums in the same area. One about nasa, Harveys House, and one about Trains.
Absolutely a must-see!!! A bit hidden and with a very narrow open time, but it is one of the best things to do if you like route 66 stuff. Admission is free. History, souvenirs, information and an outstandingly kind clerk will help you out.
Friendly service. Fun souvenir and memorabilia
Free entry into the museum. Such a wonderful mix of items from the past. Plenty of variety, not just car stuff. They also sell souvenirs and some helpful travel information. We also made a small donation for the volunteers and the upkeep of the museum.
Didnt go inside, outside railroad equipment display is nice.BUT BE CAREFUL THIEVES EXIST THERE.Stold two duffel bags out of the back of my pickup truck in March 2019.
Some interesting stuff, not all had to do with Route 66. I would have like to see more information on the history of the road.
Kinda tack but also fun
Its such a good stop by if u drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, another railway museum located at the next door of route66 museum. Grab some snack or foods, like Dennys from the town after visiting, garantee you are not in rush, its perfect.
Another Route 66 museum that is worth a visit. Just be mindful it is not on Route 66. Its located in the old train station buildings.
Lovely museum! You can take good pictures there. They have a big motorcycle and an old car. You can get cool souvenirs from Route 66 too! The owners give you a lot of facts about that route, the history, good moments, sad moments. Please, buy something there, definitely worth it! And... Its cheaper compared to Las Vegas, NV.
Great museum and it‘s Free, free parking .
This museum was very informative. It was FREE! The place is small and cozy but its definitely worth the trip. They have the Harvey House and the Railroad Museum all next to eachother and they are free as well. Theres a really cool gift shop inside. My son, husband and I enjoyed ourselves!
Great little museum with tons of information everywhere! And no entree fee.
We visited the lovely Desert Museum in Barstow and were encouraged to bring our kids to the Route 66 Museum. Everyone was excited as we entered but we were greeted at the door by 2 very sour faced gentlemen who promptly told us that the museum is not meant for children and we needed to make sure they didnt touch anything. Then they proceeded to have a conversation about why anyone would bring kids to a museum like this. I never saw a sign saying no kids allowed but we did not stay long. The area outside the museum is lovely with a great railroad museum and a historic rail yard.
