Unique, beautiful and tasty dinner experience. We sat outdoors under the heaters and blankets, thoroughly enjoying the small plates. I recommend the homemade bread and rarebit.

Amazing innovative vegetarian options. There are very few times I have gone to a restaurant and felt like the vegetarian food was the better option and well thought of and put together but this restaurant is definitely one of them. Really raises the bar for other restaurants too in terms of what you can do with fresh produce.A lot of the veggie options can also be made vegan which is great!The staff were super friendly too and very attentive.Will definitely be back

The most amazing dining experience! A must when in Bristol. Beautiful tasting, locally sourced, seasonal produce, creating such delicious dishes. Went with a few heavy meat eaters who found this experience very eye opening to how beautiful vegetable based meals with a side of fish really are. I would advise trying out as many of the dishes as possible - all so so delicious 🤤

This place is a must for vegan / vegetarian food. Some of the best vegetable dishes weve had in a long time. Staff were lovely and service good. Dont nuts this one!

Root is a small and cozy restaurant in Bristol, situated in quirky shipping containers. The menu is mostly vegetarian with a wide variety of tapas-style dishes meant to share. The cocktails are nice and fresh, perfect for the hot summer. All the dishes were delicious with fresh products and interesting flavours. Personal favourite is the tempura spring onions. The staff are friendly, efficient and smiley. Overall very nice experience, recommend it!

Really lovely time for my mums birthday.My step dad has dietary restrictions and the main waitress who was looking after us went and checked everything with the kitchen then arranged for some dishes to be brought out with the garnish/sauce on the side so he could eat the part he was able to and we could add the garnish/sauce back onto our plates. If another team member came out with plates then they also explained what the separate plate and garnish was so clearly the whole team knew and had communicated really well. Cant thank the team enough for enabling him to eat as many dishes as possible without feeling like he was a nuisance.The dishes themselves were delicious. We tried almost everything on the menu and there was nothing that we didnt like.

An impromptu lunch at Root turned out to be one of the nicest meals Ive had and was excellent value for money given the quality of the ingredients used.The restaurant offers tapas-style small plates of food with an emphasis on vegetables (although meat and fish are still used in some items). Dishes are brought out at different times depending on when they are ready and are ideal for sharing. We had 6 plates between 2 people and demolished the lot. We are both vegetarians and there was plenty of choice. Each dish was unique and didnt feel like ideas/flavours were being recycled from others (as is often the case with vegetarian options). We loved everything we ate but we were particularly impressed by the quality of the sauces in all of the dishes; hazelnut butter, masala sauce. salsa rojo and apricot ketchup to name but a few. I cant wait to return!

Fresh, local, seasonal, veggie- this place ticks all the boxes but also: delicious.We had such a great meal. The spring onions and dumplings especially.Service was really friendly, especially the lady with the short blond hair. She really helped us make good menu choices.Decent cocktail & drinks menu too.Root is in a quieter spot too, so you can have a good conversation away from the crowds.I can’t wait to go back

Amazing dinner last night for a family member’s birthday. The food was simply divine and had plenty of variety, and we were all so happy with each small plate. This was perfect such a perfect option to cater for the few vegetarians among us! Service was fab too, we definitely felt looked after. Will definitely visit again!

The place is amazing! Great location and the food is phenomenal. Staff and service was excellent too - really friendly and very attentive.

Had loaf of bread, oyster, and grilled leek with a soft drink. Enjoyed everything from the plating and taste. the oyster was really juicy and grilled leek was beautifully cooked with just the right amount of tenderness. The staffs were very kind and helpful too. Recommend the outdoor seats as indoor seats could be a little crowded and noisy.

Outstanding lunch here today. Each dish was delicious, had 5 dishes between 2 and a dessert each. Lovely to have such a wide selection of vegetarian options on a menu. Would highly recommend the crispy cauliflower and sprouting broccoli especially! Staff were very friendly and attentive too

Delicious food, tasty drinks, staff were friendly and the pricing was reasonable.Though I will never get over small plate restaurants having 3 or 5 of something on a plate, makes it very hard to share.

Had the most amazing dinner at root!Every dish was interesting to eat and completely different in flavour.We had a selection of dishes however the cod was probably the best cooked fish Ive ever had, melted in my mouth.The waiting staff were so friendly and chatty and really knowledgeable about all the dishes and drinks, It felt like a proper experience.Already wanting to go again and dreaming of the food today ☺️

Remarkable restaurant focusing on fresh vegetables but not a vegetarian place. The food was prepared creatively with fresh ingredients. Really recommend and the service is first class too.

Fairly short but interesting menu, with vividly presented, assertively cooked, intensely flavoured dishes. Mostly vegetarian/vegan but with a meat option, and quite an excellent one too in our case (beautifully baked cod in chicken jus with mushrooms). Service on the evening could not have been friendlier. Prices not a bargain but not unfair either.

Food was incredible and lush atmosphere. We were disappointed with the service though and expected more for the quality/cost of the restaurant. We waited over 20 mins for drinks after arriving, didnt get a check back/offered another drink until our deserts came, and we had to get up and get a replacement fork because our host forgot twice - whilst the food was sat there going cold. They still added the service charge on the bill which felt inappropriate when we felt we had largely been ignored, and had fedback we werent that happy. Its sad because heard such good things about this place, but despite the food being excellent, we wont be returning soon due to our overall poor experience of the service which did impact a special evening out.

Probably one of the best meals I’ve had in Bristol over my two years living here. I took friends from out of town and we had every single dish on the menu.It’s not often I walk away raving about carrots and cabbage on a menu but this was amazing.We were able to sit outside in the patio comfortably with heaters. The pram fit right next to us. They had great non alcoholic cocktails for two pregnant ladies!Can’t wait to take my dad when he comes to visit or my parents in law.

Root was EXTREMELY awesome!! We ordered 3 plates and a dessert and all of them were super tasty. We both loved the Curried Mussels soo much, as well as the Potato Gnocchi. That was extremely creamy! The other was the Grilled Leek, and its warm tartare sauce was fantastic. All of the ingredients were super fresh!!We ordered the White Chocolate & Whisky Cheesecake, with poached pear and hazelnut to increase the crispiness of the whole plate. It was a bit sweeet, but afterall the whiskey aroma came and it was just perfect!!The staff was so nice and suggested us to go for Petit Peche for drink. It was Bourbon with Earl Grey Syrup and Peach Liqueur. Super Great, and AWESOME SUGGESTION!

Wow.. this was amazing.. the food was so fresh and tasty. I now have a great appreciation for deep fried lemon.. It really is beautiful food. Felt the service could have been slightly better as our table kept getting missed but the servers were really nice and friendly. The bill was relatively high at the end having had a couple of cocktails each so not in a rush to return but will go back and have told friends!

We were taken here yesterday lunchtime as a special birthday treat by some dear friends and what a treat it was! I absolutely loved every dish, from the crispy cauliflower, scrumptious jerusalem artichokes with almond sauce, the best arancini I have every had, beetroot with blackberries (not a great beetroot fan, but this was sublimeto name a few dishes. Each dish had so many flavours and was beautifully executed. I promptly bought the beautiful cookery book by Rob Howell. The staff were super friendly and helpful too. What a fabulous experience.

A few years ago I said this was my favourite restaurant in Bristol. I went again yesterday and I can confirm it still is! Such imaginative flavours with food...you never know what to expect! Only thing I’d recommend is not ordering all at once - order three or so, then pause before ordering the next batch. It all comes out when it’s ready so it can be a little overwhelming but still fantastic. Can’t recommend this place highly enough, especially as a vegetarian - you can take any meat eater here and they will be amazed.

Spent a lovely evening at Root with four friends, sharing a range of vegetarian dishes (fish available too). Quite honestly, one of the best meals Ive ever had. As a vegetarian, Im often left feeling that the vegetables have been butchered and had most of their flavour and texture removed. Not so here, each vegetable was played to its strengths and given the perfect sauce/spice/vegetable partner to fulfill its potential. The staff were attentive without fussing and the whole experience was a pleasure from start to finish. Thank you.

Banging veggie sharing restaurant in the heart of Bristol. Great selection of tasty veggie plates to share - lovely variety. Cheesecake is 100% amazing so make sure to leave space. Accompanying drinks list also includes vegan, veggie and “natural” options in addition to non-alcoholic beers and cocktails. All very affordable. Staff are very friendly and helpful on selection. Not sure if it has wheelchair access being on 1st floor - didn’t see lift.

An outstanding experience. Did not know what it was about, the place was recommended by local and we got a seat cause somebody cancelled. Thank you, whoever you were and thanks to the girls who got us a seat. Every dish was mind-blowingly different and unique and the sauces were out of this world. Ceps with lentils were magnificient! We live in the Netherlands and cannot find such a high quality ingredients presented in such an innovative way. Might just come back to try other stuff too!

Great meal in a lovely location. Loads of vegetarian options and really friendly staff combine for an experience that won’t break the bank. Particular highlights include the flatbread with baba ganoush, the cheese and onion aranchini and the gnocchi!

The food was excellent. We were sat up at the bar so had full view of everything being prepared. We ordered a good few items from the menu and they were served as and when they were ready. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Reservations are needed. Book a table, you wont be disappointed.

Lovely place for vegetable centric small dish dining! Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, every dish is amazing and is a pleasant surprise of how well the ingredients work together. Reasonly priced too for such good food too! About £30 per head. Make sure you book a table.

Outstanding food and service. My fiancé and I ate here last night. It was the second time I have been here and the first was equally as fantastic.We are both meat eaters and left feeling fully satisfied and blown away with the food. I think our favourite was probably the charred cabbage in seaweed butter, which was exceptional and a great surprise to my fiancé who couldnt understand why I was ordering a piece of cabbage in a restaurant.The staff was young, friendly and vibrant. Impressive to see young chefs in the kitchen executing the menu with such skill. The waiters and waitresses had a lovely relaxed, but efficient, manner and took very good care of us.Thanks for a lovely evening. We will be back here in a heartbeat.

Just stopped by for dessert and despite the kitchen being minutes from closing we were welcomed with a smile. The rice pudding and the doughnut were delicious and the perfect size for a dessert.

This is definitely one of Bristol’s best eateries. The restaurant focuses on vegetarian food but offer some meat and fish dishes such as fresh oysters. The dishes are starter / tapas sized and are truly amazing. The restaurant is situated upstairs in the cargo containers and the decor is modern yet fuss-free. You get an amazing view over wapping wharf which looks especially pretty when the fairy lights in the trees around the wharf go on. The staff go the extra mile to make your visit a great experience.

Chef Rob Howell and his team at Root are rocking the stoves.This is my favorite place in Bristol. The idea of having mainly vegetarian dishes, the attentive service but really laid back atmosphere and the execution of the dishes make this place a must.Here you can see how the chef are transforming the greatest ingredients into sublime dishes in a open kitchen.Excellent specials are on the board everyday.The wine list is small but have amazing discovers.When you order bread, not only they give you sourdough made in house, but you have the choice from butter or cod roe butter.I can not go on enough about how good ROOT is.But also I have a financial example:In one of my several visits I went for: Bread and cod roe, 1 sardine, a glass of really good wine and a main for £18.00. So not only the food is to die for. But I truly believe it is affordable. And that is is really important these days.Go and try. Have a chat with chef Rob or his sous chef. Ask lots of questions to the staff about the wine and have a really great time in a restaurant which have a great soul and is truly delicious and honest.Enjoy.

Excellent food and service. Really interesting and exciting tapas sized food. Between 4 of us we had 8 dishes so got enjoy a great variety. Thoroughly recommend
