Cozy Indian spot serving traditional fare, plus veggie & gluten-free dishes in a minimalist space.
Food is okay at best. I have had much better Naan and Chicken to know that this is a below average Indian restaurant when it comes to taste of the food. Prices are little bit on the high side as well.
Superb, delicious, amazing workers and equally amazing owners. Great place to dine in or call it in for pick up. Do I need to say more? :))Cheer to all @Roopas 💓 💖
Delicious food, and great quiet atmosphere. Super kind staff and a great place. We tried many dishes to get a feel for the flavors and they did not disappoint!
Gotta like hot spicy food. They offer mild, medium, and TMI. This was first time so cant really say if the food was good. It was spicy.
Incredible food. Every dish will surprise you with the flavor and quality. Lovely decor and serene atmosphere will make you savor every bite. Waiters and stuff are very polite. No doubt it’s one of the best Indian restaurants in Texas. Who would have thought that such a gem would be located in Temple? I am addicted to their green beans. You cannot go to Roopa’s and not order samosas, it’s and order.
Even though I asked for mild spicy, my dish was so spicy I couldnt enjoy it. Wasted my money. The server didnt come to refill my water at all our even check on us. Service sucked. Would not go again.
The environment is nice. I liked the food, i took chicken curry, chicken 65, goat curry, fish tikka and plain rice. Probably south indian food use coconuts in curry. Its not common in our food style, but i did not dislike it. Everything was good enough and the waiters were polite. We had good time.
Good Indian food, reasonable prices. Staff is attentive, highly recommend.
We had some very thick and tasty mango Lassis. Nutter chicken, Saag Paneer and 2 other dishes that we ordered medium spicy. All very good. Garlic Naan and an appetizer that looked like donuts rounded out our meal. We have some left for later, and left very full and satisfied.
The food was delicious! It was a great experience for us. So refreshing to dine in a clean restaurant staffed with courteous, knowledgeable people.
My only regret is not coming here sooner.Hands down the most delicious Indian food in the area.Food was incredibly temperature hot, and the spicy still had a lot of flavor. My wife and I will 100% come back. Its the right price for such amazing food. 1 app, 2 meals, 2 breads and 2 deserts and 2 beverages was about $70. Big portions of everything, we have left overs.*My wife and I eat a lot of spicy food, so know your limits. When we told our waitress spicy for everything her eyes got big.
Ive cooked better Indian food, and Im German.Everything tastes like salt and heat, with only a bit of color to distinguish korma from vindaloo. Ive had variant flavors, but even the mediocre chain restaurants use seasonings.Pakora was decent, all things considered, but usually I expect more than just peas in a vegetable pakora. The dosa was a pancake instead of a crepe, easily half an inch thick in places, with no crunch.Do yourself a favor and get simmer sauce at your local supermarket. Its cheaper, faster, and tastes better by a mile.
The Good: The food was good, and restaurant was clean. Came with a party of four for the first to try this place. Ordered about 8 or so dishes and everyone was satisfied with taste. The Bad: place wasnt crowded asked for a bigger table and serve said table was reserved for parties with 5 or more, not a big deal but place wasnt that crowded think he couldve let us have it especially since there was another table for 5 or more as well. As the evening went on the server did not check on us and if we asked him for something it seemed like an inconvenience.
This is one of our favorite places to eat! We love the flavors of all the food, the welcoming atmosphere and the staff is always pleasant! We have almost tried everything on the menu and weve coming here since 2018!
Went here to satisfy my pregnancy craving and the food was horrible.I ordered spicy butter chicken with a side of garlic naan. The rice was gummy and stuck together , the butter chicken was mainly grease. The Naan was like a thick crust pizza and the inside was raw. Which is unsafe for me and my child. For as much as they charged me I expected decent food.
We had the onion pakoda (superb), samosa (delish), butter chicken (enjoyed it a lot, chicken tasted fresh), and my husband had the spicy lamb curry (says it was good). Garlic naan was tasty, a great combo of thick and soft, with thin and crispy spots. Service was friendly and fast, restaurant was very clean, and there is plenty of parking. Area is off of a road, and it is in a strip center with other shops. You can tell this is a family owned and operated restaurant, real pride in the food and presentation. Prices are reasonable for Indian food-always a little more, spices are expensive. Wish we lived closer to this location, we could come more often!
The place is a secret and the food good, from what I know its a husband and wife restaurant. Roopa is in the kitchen and makes all the food herself. To try something different (for menot bad, really enjoyed it.
I would probably give 3.5 stars if Google had the option, however they deserve the bump up to 4 stars rather than the bump down to 3.The food was good but not anything special. The spice level on my spicy chicken vindaloo was just right, but the flavor was lacking. The salad served with most entrees is a very small serving of chopped cucumber salad. It was good, but I feel it would not be that expensive to include a larger portion - something that would be very welcome with spicier dishes. The rice was great. The veg pakora I ordered were very tasty, however the restaurant packed them to-go in a non-vented container, meaning they were steamed and lost all crispiness by the time I made it home with my order. I have seen another restaurant avoid this by using a brown paper bag for their pakora, which is a cheaper option anyway. I was pretty disappointed that I paid $4 for one garlic naan; the price did not match the serving considering you can get a 4 pack of decent naan at any grocery store for the same price these days.I definitely plan to return and check out Roopas other dishes!
My wife and I ate here for the first time this week. The food is excellent. They have a high standard for ingredients and that translated in a great meal.
We have visited Roopas a few times and have loved it each time. Its not very big on the inside but weve never had to wait to be seated. The owner is a very nice man and so are the servers. The food is fresh and flavorful. Portions are a good size.
Ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and a Naan to go. The Tikka has Indian flavor but is in no way a Tikka Masala. It was a lot of chicken and almost no curry. I had to throw out the ‘naan’, it was ridiculously uneven thickness. The thick sides were undercooked! The cooked part tastes nothing like a Naan.
We ordered Gobi 65, chicken curry, lemon rice & mango cheesecake. Taste wise food wasnt delicious. Not coming back. Young lady who greeted & served us was welcoming & nice. Place looks well - organized.
I and my wife visited last week, worst Indian restaurant I ever visited. They dont know anything about cooking. We ordered Garlic Naan, Paneer Tikka and Dhosa. I would say Dhosa was Ok, however overall food was not good. I would appreciate for their cleanliness. For Food, they need to improve as I know Indian food and cuisine, and they dont meet the basics of Indian food
For excellent customer service, look no further than Roopas Kitchen. My mother-in-law is about as white as you can get and ordered a mild meal. She could not handle it saying it was too spicy. The waiter assured her that it was mild but agreed to talk with the cooks to get something more mild. The spiciness of the next plate brought to her was that of milk, but she thoroughly enjoyed it.
The food deserves 5 stars! Chana Masala with medium heat and the white rice were delicious. The service was lacking. There were very few customers dining in, including myself, during what should be peak Saturday dinnertime rush. My food came out I noticed that I did not get lemon rice like I had asked. Also, I was told more tea was being made, patiently waited for 10 to 15 minutes, only to have a near empty pitcher brought out. While the gentleman poured he spilled some tea on the table and walked away to take care of to-go customers. Once I finished my meal I wiped up the mess myself with my napkin.
Outstanding, fresh food, and friendly, professional staff! Had the Samosas and Spicy Ginger Chicken. So amazing! This is a nice little restaurant in which to dine with friends and family! Simple but classy decor. Soft Indian music plays in the background. Will definitely return!
I love indian fare, the spices in the food, the culture, the ladies beautiful henna & jewels that adorn them.I am partial to Chicken Tikka Masala, naan, & Simosas. I live in the boonies, when I get to a city & find Indian food or a good southern cafe I get excited, food is 1 of lifes few great enjoyments to me, & I pay/tip well for good food & service. I was excited to run across Roopas & ordered Simosas to eat while I drove. Not happy to say they were a let down. The pastry was tough, & the taste of cinnamon over powered everything. They prices were high for the quality of food, Was $11 for Simosas, & $16 for Chicken tiki masala, which I passed on as I dont like to spend $35 on a dinner for myself unless Im going out, & Roopas does not offer child size, I asked. Sad a-fare.
My friends and I felt so much humiliated to receive such a rude behavior from the owner. We visited this place to try indian food in Temple, TX, we ordered naan and waited for more than 45 mins. When we informed the owner that we didn’t receive the food for kids, they brought an uncooked naan which is unhealthy to eat. When we reported this, the owner was very rude and offensive and told us not to visit again if we don’t like the food. This is not an authentic food place. Felt so much embarrassed after coming out. I will never come back here and will definitely NOT recommend my friends to visit here either.
This was my first time having their food. It was very flavorful but I ordered mild but somehow I ended up with hot. Clean and friendly. I would definitely try again, but without spice.
Great quality dishes. Spicy and flavorful. And enough for leftovers 👍Very hospitable and accommodating host.
The Food is pretty good. The fact they used roasted chicken when making the curry really stood out! The Pistachios and Cardamom cheese cake was decent but it had a very strong Cardamom flavor. It was over powering. I think if there was less Cardamom the cheese cake would have been perfect. The avocado bread was disappointing was not what I would expect and turned out to be a blan tortilla. The rice could have used some salt as well as it didnt pop like well prepared rice normally does. The rice washed out flavors from the meals themselves unfortunately. The Mattar was decent. Had good flavor but I felt like it did lack in that strong, savory character that this dish is known for. It washes off the pallet easy.
We ate here today for the first time. The food was hot, spiced just right, served attractively, and plentiful. Service was good considering there was only one man giving service out front and the place became pretty busy. I would definitely come again.
This was our first time here at Roopas Kitchen and if ur looking for Indian Cuisine. 👍👍👍👍👍🤗 This was Amazing and Delicious. 🤗👍🤗👍👍👍We had the Chicken Vindaloo Mild and the Chicken Biryani medium and the Chicken Curry Spicy with Garlic Naan. We will definitely be back. 👍👍👍👍👍
I would have given it all 5 stars if it wasnt for the person who was basically arguing with me. For my birthday I wanted to try this place, I ordered through the phone and placed my order of appetizer, entrees and dessert all with 1spiced tea. When I got to the restaurant to pick my order. The cashier repeated my order I was told I order 5 spiced teas, I replied and said I only ordered one tea. The person who I talk to, to place my order, walked up to me and was basically arguing with me that I told him I ordered 5 teas, even though I Only ordered One... I didnt mind paying for the other 4 teas and taken them with me, since he missed understood me, but I didnt payed and told them to take the other 4 teas off my order, because he was raising his voice at me. That person left upset after talking to me like it was all my fault! Clearly it was miss understanding. Not sure if it was a server, manager or owner, but I didnt like how I was told about the spiced teas.. the cashier on the other hand was kind and welcoming. We spend over $70 of food, and it was amazing food. The appetizers, entrees and dessert, and my one spiced tea was amazing. I would be coming back to dine in next time.I give this place 3.8 stars⭐⭐⭐ so far.
Amazing! Im so in love with this place. I will make the 45min drive over and over. Thank yall so much for existing. Service was wonderful and food is out of this world!❤
Horrible food. Sambar was way too too salty, chutney too salty, potato masala was ok. Dosa was uncooked inside. Palak paneer was like green oil stock not even like soup consistency. It says authentic Indian food but it’s not even one percent authentic. Please check palaak paneer consistency to boast of serving authentic food. You can cheat non indians but not a real indian.
This place was so amazing. It is a small restaurant with about 4 booths and 8-9 tables. The server was kind and efficient. The food came out quickly. It was super fresh and tasted as if you had gone to a friends house and their family member made dinner. The flavor and spice was amazing. All in all it was fantastic and honestly I cant recommend it enough. The only thing that upset me is when I found out its actually been there for 6 YEARS! Im still feeling a bit upset Ive been missing out for so long.
Yesterday was my first time eating Indian food and it was delicious. Its a bit spicy for "mild", but Id eat it again! The young man that assisted me at the counter was very friendly and gave me his honest opinion about the different dishes that I inquired about. I went with the Aloo Gobi Masala and lemon rice. Im new to this vegan journey, but I think Roopas will definitely be a part of it when I dont want to cook anything for myself 😉 Two thumbs up!! If youre in the area, drop in for dine in or take out. They are also on either Doordash or Waitr...maybe even both.
Service, food, and decor/ambience were great! I very much enjoyed the food here. The chicken tikki marsala was delicious and the chicken wasnt dry at all like I have experienced at other restaurants. I dont recall what the burrito roll like dish was called, but it was scrupulous!
Very friendly and fast service, with a location that has ample parking and space. The food generally pretty good, but the curry will regularly be a little less spicy (ask specifically for more if you want it closer to normal Indian food.Entrees come with rice, naan is an extra. Menu is moderately priced.Overall, food isnt bad at all (its catered to localsbut wasnt the best Indian food I have ever had (that being said I am very picky about Indian.)
Great food just beware that if this is your first time eating Indian food, all the meats for the most part are spicy! If you request “mild” there’s still a little spicy-ness to it but tolerable..for the most part, it’s very delicious food!
This place has great flavors for a great price. I was also happy with the service and the cleanliness of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend this if you are in the Temple area.
Excellent chicken Tikka masala, butter chicken. Fish Tikka was good will lemon rice. Garlic naan was freshly made. Chapati was good but not quite as good as the naan. Their mild is no heat at all. The samosas were medium spice but loaded with peas that still had pop. Unusual, the place has (UScheesecake for dessert. Pretty good but not cheesecake factory.
We were pleasantly surprised at the great range of flavors among all the dishes we tried. Best samosas Ive had in a very long time; for once the peas still had pop and were the primary ingredient (instead of potatoes)! My favorite dish was the Butter Chicken, which I gotmild. Oh so good! We also tried the chicken biryani and fish biryani, both complex and flavorful - they taste so different, which is not usual for a lot of Indian places. Garlic naan was fresh & tasty. And for dessert (pictured), rice pudding (not as thin as kirand mango cheesecake (not the disappointing airy kind). All in all, a great dining experience. Next time youre in Temple, TX, you must try it! Namaste.
Pamela Vicars I am extremely delighted your service and food was flawless. Our service was good, it started slow yet was fine. The food however missed the mark on all three dishes on many levels. We had no intention of not paying yet I simply asked if the manager or owner could come to the table. I was told they were busy and server took the check presenter with the credit card and said "Im going to take care of this and ask you to never come back." That is when we felt threatened because she was forcing us to pay for food we didnt eat. I said not to charge us and she did anyway and it escalated from there. The picture is as we left the table. THANK YOU! My friend took a small amount of the Lemon Rice in a large to go box which was actually good and we did not have anyone "pack up all the leftovers" We paid 35.00 for food and tax along with 15.00 for wine. We didnt eat what tasted old, dry, and greasy this night. We left it at the table, I apologize you had to experience the sad failure at our table. I spoke with the owner today and he actually cared enough that we will be refunded for the 2 entrées. The lemon rice we took to go will not be refunded.
Edit: we returned about a week later with a party of 10 and had a much different experience. The floors were so sticky that my shoes stuck and we could barely slide our chairs in and out of the tables. The wait staff was bothered and over scheduled and it took too long to get our food. Our appetizers arrived and we still had no waters. Hopefully it will be better in the future.Original review:This place was wonderful! We’d been told about this place from some friends. It’s only been in Temple about 3 years. The wait staff was attentive and very polished. The samosas were excellent! The entrees were nice sized and the spice level was awesome. We got medium spice level and it was perfect. We enjoyed it all and especially the chicken curry and chicken kurma as well as the garlic naan and avocado naan. This will be a new regular spot for us!
The nonn is exceptionally wonderful out of the oven. Wait staff is exceptionally courteous and prompt never left my table empty of dr. Pepper or water. The chicken voodoo was great tomato sauce creamy rice was Fluffy not stuck together. The cauliflower cream stuff my wifey 8 was good not as spicy as my chicken but none the less wonderful atmosphere cheery light. Highly recommended enjoy the pictures
Good food and service. Such a gem as there is not many Indian restaurant around. Super busy especially at weekend so you have to wait sometimes. There are vegan & vegetarian options too.
Great food! If you like spicy food then this place is perfect for you! The food came out fast and was fresh and couldn’t have asked for a better experience
Don’t be fooled by the unassuming exterior of this culinary gem quietly tucked away into a small shopping center. The food was freshly prepared and arrived to our table hot and delicious. The portions are generous and an entree could easily be shared. I came for lunch and ordered the ginger chicken w lemon rice and garlic naan. When I saw how large the portion was, I fully intended to save half for my dinner.. but it was so good I couldn’t help myself and ended up eating every bite! Will definitely be back!
