Popular park with both attractions & green space filled with ponds, a rose garden, & public statues.
Super cool event, filled with awesomely carved pumpkins. We got lucky and was able to enjoy this experience at nice dry weather.
Beautiful 🥰 park, exquisite fall leaves colors, gorgeous picnic spaces, a wonderful place to happily enjoy yourself/family, and make long lasting memories
I love the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular! It is a little higher than I expected, but definitely worth it! So many pumpkins there, the trail is divided by every decade with those tv shows!
Pumpkin Spectacular 2022!! Has become a family tradition must. Every year we look forward to the new theme. Beautiful carved pumpkins, displayed throughout the zoo trail.Tickets purchased online with time slots makes it great for crowd control. Parking is a little crazy, but they make it work. Plenty of food vendors there if you want to purchase a candy apple, popcorn, etc. They also offer other activities as well....zip lining at night (lots of funas well as lit up Swan boats (also greatthat you can sit and relax while peddling thru some lit up tunnels. Definitely worth checking out if you have the chance.
We went on a rainy day so it was very quiet but most of the animals were still out and about. They have elephants, a snow leopard, red panda, and many more amazing animals. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the giraffes, their enclosure is under construction. I love the rainforest room. The enclosures seem large and attractively designed.
Got to check our the 150 year Anniversary! It was incredible. Living tree people and so much more! Love the Roger Williams Park Zoo!
Roger Williams Park Zoo has many animals to look at and interact with. We were able to watch the elephants eat snacks and preform a few tricks. We also brushed out the goats at the goat farm. I especially enjoyed the Rainforest exhibit because they have free-roaming animals. (Birds/monkeysI rated the Zoo 4 stars because a couple of the exhibits were shut down (No animalsand there were employees actively working to prepare for the Halloween exhibits. Which included a few areas blocked off and lift trucks in the walkways at times. Overall Roger Williams Park Zoo is family friendly and worth the trip.
This is a very beautiful place to have some fresh air. The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular in October is a must see every year!
This zoo for me is over rated. They have a lot less animals than other zoos I’ve been too. Although some enclosures seem nice, others seem very inadequate. Like the red panda. That seems like someone’s city back yard area. Kinda sad. Now, for the quick weekend time waster for the kids by all means. But it’s still over 19 bucks for an adult. Should be more like 15 or less. We spent about 2 hours wandering slowly through taking pics for a video we are doing but all in all you could do the zoo in an hour or so. The water natural trail was closed as the prep for October pumpkin event. Not much to see there anyway. Don’t forget change for the farm feed!!
Walk my dog here every day , Absolutely beautiful! A hidden gem for sure
Amazing and well designed zoo! Free parking and big parking lot with tons of spaces. I saw so many animals today from elephants to red pandas! I loved seeing the red panda, that is probably one of my favorite animals I saw today.
Always such a wonderful time here. Bring a mask! They are needed to visit specific exhibits.
The Holiday Light Spectacular of 2021 was AMAZING. Even though there were a ton of cars in the parking lots, the zoo itself was not crowded. There was plenty of Holiday Cheer and the music was fantastic. We loved it so much. Every after hours event weve been to is fantastic and this by far was a favorite, with the Asian Lantern Fest a close 2nd and the Beer Fest in 3rd.Weve been zoo members for over 8yrs. We truly enjoy the zoo as a way to get some exercise, let out some energy and see a new experience the animals each and every visit. RWP Zoo is the best and we are very lucky to live so close to it.
Its nice that Providence has a local zooAnd its free for Rhode Islanders the 1st Saturday of the month (though i know it can be pricey), sadly I missed the red pandas 😥 🐼Its not the best zoo but its an ideal location, in Roger William Park (have to recheck out Japanese garden, Botanical, Japanese Garden, that giant Roman Structure and the Carousel)Really love the volunteer opportunities they offer and the Halloween latern pumpkin show .
A very large zoo, as we ended up walking around for over two hours. It boasted a wide variety of animals, displays and a food court area that actually had good food. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but the lots are close to the park entrance. It was beneficial to start in the back of the lot as I was able to snag one of the only spots left, for the lot closest to the entrance. We would definitely go back if in the area.
Play ground only. Cute. Old. Cannot see from the road. Follow signs to the carousel. The bathroom is not open until 11am!! Been going for years. No updates. Currently working on resurfacing the candyland steps. Toddler selection in the front. Bigger kid playgrounds in the back. A few swings. Cushioned ground. Enclosed which is nice for safety. No hand sanitizer or cleaning anywhere. No water fountains. Snack stand is right next to it, but also not open until later.
Always a great time here, for all ages. We used to be members when we lived in Providence, as its an amazing value - its a great place to take the kids all year round, for some exercise, fresh air, education, and fun. We dont live in PVD anymore but I still take the kids once a year, and hopefully a second time for the Jack-o-lantern Spectacular.Theyve added a lot of nice exhibits and features, like the rainforest building and additional snack shacks. Last week we got to see one of the elephants get a foot bath and do some tricks. It was a great chance for kids to ask questions and see these huge animals up close. The gift shop always has unique stuffed animals...
We really enjoy this zoo, weve purchased a yearly membership. Theres a great variety of animals, and their habitats seem good. Theres also two different hands on/play areas, one in the farmyard, one in the "Big Backyard".Have now successfully stayed at the zoo for 5+ hours and my daughter and her friends couldve played even longer but it was closing time.Without the membership, adults under 65 are 19.95 each, kids 3-12 are 14.95, and 65+ have a discount from the adult cost.
We had a great time, its not the biggest zoo but it is nice, we enjoy going every week and having a picnic there. We generally only spend about an hour there. Its pretty quick to walk through.I wouldnt make a trip specifically for I the zoo but whenever we have a bit of extra time its a nice little walk the kids enjoy.
A great little zoo. Always something new or updated. The lantern festival is a great sight even during the day, would be amazing at night from the photos.
What an outstanding zoo! Truly refreshing to see such happy, clean, and healthy animals. Each exhibit was special and provided excellent viewing without leaving the animals feeling over exposed. A very well thought out design of the park. Absolutely flooded with our visit and cant wait to come again!
What a fantastic zoo. We were very happy to see the large enclosures the animals had. The zoo is very large and very easy to make your way through the entire zoo. There are many benches along the way if you get tired to take a rest. They time event the tickets so the crowds were not overwhelming. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. There is a good variety of animals. This was the nicest zoo I have ever visited. If you get tired of looking at animals they have a very fun zipline you can do for an added cost inside the zoo. There are carriages to rent for children and wheelchairs for those who need one. Parking was easy and ample. Very affordable prices would definitely recommend this for children and adults.
This zoo is excellent. It doesnt seem to suffer from any of the "legacy" issues I have observed in other pre-AZA establishments. I have seen care of the animals and care of the customers and it is wonderful. The grounds are wheelchair accessible and well-kept, as are the bathrooms, which are roomy with grab rails in sensible spots.Staff was obviously trained on assistance dog protocols and we were received without having to take time from our visit to advocate.Service counters at the cafe are for people of adult standing height, but there was plenty of staff and I had no trouble grabbing someones attention to help me reach.I am a member, so of course Ill be back!
Perfect day. We saw all our favorite animals except a lion and the camel. Everything was clean. Parking was easy and free. Animals were great!
What a fun day at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. Lots of walking through a lovely area and viewing the various animal exhibits. The park appeared well maintained and the animals well cared for. The entire surrounding area was quite nice as well and worth another visit. I highly recommend a trip to this location.
Saw the lantern spectacular! It was absolutely beautiful and the food was actually really good.
I was a bit disappointed. We got there at 9 am when the zoo opens up and barely saw few animals (mainly goats). There were more lanterns and employees than animals. My recommendation to the zoo is to start open hours at 11 instead of 9, so that all the animals will be taken care of and outside by the time we go see them. My suggestion to travelers is to arrive at a later time of the day and may be at night time if you wanna enjoy the lanterns (which is a special event of the zoo). Have fun!
Awesome night. Very short lines. Incredible talent for the Asian lantern exhibit going on now
Growing up in the city and literally grew up with the zoo as my back yard. And yet, I find myself spending more time here now with my kids or some days with my dog, than i did in my younger years. I’ve watched this park become such an amazing gem for all people of all ages. So much great creativity, events and it all comes down to bringing community back together. And they’ve done it remarkably well, from the zoo, to the splashpad and butterfly farm just to name a few. The japanese garden, the paddleboats, the botanical garden,… carousel. And the events they throw in the zoo, like the asian lantern spectacular (photo )So many options…, I do hope that throughout all the changes, we honor such a place, that bring memories to many, by maintaining it, without it becoming a walk through a landfill.( Except creatively Otherwise. Well worth it and some
We went to see the Asian lanterns. Its was really nice. We had fun. Some what pricey!! It could have been better if we were able to see some of the aminals.
Easy to get to.Very walkable.Plenty of rest stops and photo ops.Gluten free food options 👍👍Bring a mask to go into the rainforest exhibitEveryone seemed super friendly.Plan at least a 3 hour trip
Its been a while since Ive been back home, and theyve done a great job enhancing the zoo. I wish I had the time on this trip to visit the lanterns at night. I love the new rainforest exhibit they added with the sloth!
Excellent zoo, very clean, organized ant pretty animals. Im very happy with my visit to the zoo.
I like this zoo so much. They have so many animals. The size is good for a family. The Roger Williams Park also huge, includes museum and a lake that you can play swan boat. Will definitely go back when weather is better. Highly recommend to go early like 9am then you can easy to find a parking spot.
Loads of empty exhibits, trashy displays covered in plastic, depressed animals. Yes its still technically the off season but they charge full price. Only saving grace was the zookeepers being nice. Dont know what this place is like in the summer but I wouldnt go here with my family again.
Most of the animals are visibly depressed, as they have little space and no stimulation. It’s clear very little effort and information was put into the educational signs around the zoo. Also they pay lip service to conservation and sustainability, while producing massive amounts of unnecessary plastic waste with their displays for the lantern festival.
This zoo was so fun! We were able to walk around the zoo twice and see everything we wanted to and had a great time! The gift shop was loaded with good deals and my little picked out her two favorited stuffed animals! We loved that we could bring in our own food since many zoos you cannot. The indoor rainforest area is an absolute must! We will definitely be back!
Definitely an experience to share, especially with the kids. Went to see the holiday lights, little chilly so bundle up. Have a few stands open for beverages/ giftshop.
Went to the Asian Lantern Spectacular at RWZ and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Recommend going around 730pm to 8pm that way you can still see most of the animals before sunset. Once the sun sets, the lanterns glow amazingly and its just an amazing experience. Also fun for kids and adults alike!
Nice Zoo, decent size for its location. They hold different events throughout the year. They just got done with the Jack o lanterns, and now they are gearing up for a festive light showing. I always learn something new when I go there. The staff and the keepers are fun and extremely knowledgeable.
Experienced the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the zoo and it was amazing! This is a Halloween event during the night; rain or shine. The intricacies in carving on some of these pumpkins is absolutely amazing. Its almost mind boggling that someone actually carved these! The event is very safe, extremely kid and family friendly and well worth the experience! There are lots of concessions with lots of variety, including hot chocolate or beer! We parked in pay lot and I think it was like $12. There is a free parking lot but you do have to walk for 5 or 10 minutes. Enjoy!
I have been here many times throughout childhood and into my adult life. Same zoo some larger animals such as elephants, giraffes, and zebras. A few big cats. It’s always changing, I remember when they use to have polar bears. There is also an walking area separate from the zoo that is absolutely beautiful. As well as a Merry go round with other kid activities.
We went to Breakfast with Elephants this morning and had a great time. Our son is a huge elephant fan, and loved the up close look at the elephants. We were able to go into the enclosure and hide food for the elephants. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who love Elephants.
Ive been here many times....mostly as a kid growing up my dad would often bring me and my siblings here. Its a great zoo. I recently went here with my sister and 2 year old niece. We had a great time. Ive been to the jack-o-lantern spectacular 2 or 3 times as well. Its an amazing experience. I highly recommend this zoo.
My friend and I went during the Asian Lantern festival and the lanterns were so pretty. And were all over the zoo. I really enjoyed walking around and looking at them! They were intricate and so interesting! The staff at the zoo is always sweet and super knowledgeable! We met Elsa the albino alligator and a staff member was super sweet enough to tell us her story. It’s always a good time and I feel like I always learn something new. Definitely recommend if you have children or if you love animals!
Amazing day at this beautiful zoo! Some places were not open to the public/ under construction but there was still a lot to see! All kinds of food shops everywhere so if you get thirsty or hungry, you dont have to look far. Some indoor exhibits require a mask to be worn which is understandable! They had an albino alligator too! Very unique exhibits and animals, my little family had a blast. Thank you for having us!
Nice & fun Zoo. We went during the Sip & Stroll. Lots of animal exhibits and interactive booths. Food was good. Gift shop was big, we bought a few shirts. The White Alligator was really cool. The bald eagles were huge. The Red Pandas were very cute, the snow leopard was so pretty. Alot of the animals were laying down and not very active and hot from the heatwave weve had these past few days.
Went to visit for 21+ event. The lines for the 3 liquor tables wasnt worth the wait. More animals than I thought would be there. It was very fun walking around and viewing these animals. Im sure most of the ones I couldnt see were nocturnal or the heat was too much and they were hiding. Well kept bathroom cleaned and sanitized every 90 minutes. Multiple zoo staff throughout in different locations to show small animals up close (no touchinglike scorpions, snakes, and turtles. It was only 17$ per person from 530 to 9 pm. Gift shop was available along with 2 to 3 bathroom locations throughout. Definitely worth visiting if youre in the area.**only one of the inside adventures "Faces of the Rainforest" is a mask only adventure so you HAVE to wear a mask for this, vaccinated or not.**
This zoo is so beautifully laid out. The meandering paths make walking around feel like a proper exploration and its easy to spot the animals in all of their enclosures, which made a day of sketching at the zoo a delight!
We had an amazing time! It was a beautiful night to stroll through the zoo to see the different colorful Lanterns. We even got a peek at a few of the animals that were still out! I definitely recommend getting your tickets for when it gets dark so as to enjoy the experience!
