We just decided to pop in two weekends ago and we were greeted by Craig very warmly. He really took his time guiding us through the house and telling us stories about the people and the space down to the nooks. Super knowledgeable and patient guide. Its a shame we didnt have cash. I would have loved to give him a tip for an amazing job. Lots to learn about Vancouver here and about the Röde family. Definitely worth a visit. Oh! And you can book the venue for your parties. :)

Really interesting small museum. We went on a Friday morning while on holiday in Vancouver and were given a guided tour (no extra costby the very knowledgeable volunteer guide. A fascinating look at the history of Vancouver from the 1870s to around the 1930s, seen from the perspective of one family and one house. Really recommend it. You could look around the whole house in fifteen minutes, but we were there for at least an hour and could have stayed longer.

Quite an experience taking a glimpse at the past. Kudos to the efforts of the people who have been maintaining this beautiful house. There were a couple of creepy moments to be honest, which may be due to the way the past has been recreated and the lack of ventilation due to closed windows in some rooms.

A must-see experience. Dont forget to add this to your list of things to do when visiting Vancouver. Check opening times as its only open a couple of days a week. A wonderfully evocative home.

I visited this place in 2019 and paid $5 for the guided tour along with a few othet visitors. Everything was good except the fact I would never wish to return. I know some people are into this subject, this is one of the places that the spirits still linger. The museum staff may refute. My review is not intended to damage this places reputation as ghost seems to be a social taboo that has not yet been studied seriously in the scientific way. My energy plus my cell phone battery were drained at one particular spot (Im not going to name where).Even though I also have had other feelings at some unexpected places, this was the strongest ghost experience happened to me in daylight. Being a sensitive person, I know this experience wont happen to anyone. So dont feel scared by my words.

Ive never been to Roedde House, so it was lovely to have a chance to discover this gem in the neighbourhood to take part in Tourism Challenge! The staff is lovely; I really appreciated Jens anecdotes and Janes kind demeanour. I look forward to tours starting up again.I also appreciated the newspaper exhibition upstairs. I love how Roedde House provides visitors with a holistic view of the history of the house, including its social and political contexts!Bravo to Roedde House! I will definitely come back to check in on their upcoming programming!

Beautiful house but the people running it leave plenty to be desired. The posters of information also leave plenty to be desired. I had to google it to find adequate information. The people working there dont tell you anything about the house or family and are unfriendly and cold. As someone who worked at a heritage house, they could and should do much much better.

Amazing jem in the center of downtown Vancouver. This is an interactive and immersive Victorian era experience where you can really feel what its like to live in that era. From the ways rooms are set up to the clothes and kitchen tools, simply fascinating to experience it all

A wonderful hidden gem in the West End. With so few heritage buildings left in Vancouver, its a real treat to have this Victorian House full of period features and artefacts. The museum has some fascinating photographs of the West End from the early 20th century. And in addition to the museum selection, there are porch jazz concerts, classical music concerts, and exhibitions. Well worth a visit or an annual membership.

Amazing house-museum, you can transport yourself to the past, just listening the history of the family, each room has its own history, you can feel it. The guides explain you the history of each member of the family, also you can take your time in each room at the end of the tour. I think on Sundays, they have a tea afternoon, so you can give that extra touch tour your tour, drinking a cup of tea and cookies, until you enjoy the view of house. Because of the space I dont recommend for babies or kids under 10, also if you have mobility issues, I dont recommend it because the space is limited and the stairs are not wide enough for a wheelchair.

Really interesting old (for Vancouverhouse of a style seen up and down West Coast America, if theyve not been pulled down already. When we visited we had a personal tour by the volunteer guide, who talked us through the history of the family who originally owned the house and its subsequent history and preservation. The rooms are nicely laid out with period furniture, although not originally belonging to the house. Well worth a visit. We were there on a very wet day, so the garden was a bit sodden, but the walk up from the Convention Center was worth it.

This place is full of Vancouver history, for houses itself its full of antiques and stories of the previous owners. It covers the history of West End in depth and also the growth and changes to Vancouver. Make sure you check of the old photos too, youll be amazed by the gentrification.

We really loves every second of it. We had a top notch guide and we really felt back in time. It s a great place reactivated by passionate people and the energy they spend is greatly felt by visitors. We went to Fly Over Canada the day after with all the special effects and pompous marketing and were so disappointed after all the care and personnalized approach we felt ar Roedde. Really go there and feel the magic

Gorgeous heritage home and museum in the heart of the West End. We went for the regular Jazz night and for $15 it was well worth it. You can walk around and see the interior of the home and all the contents, enjoy a very intimate jazz session and as a bonus the lovely volunteers serve Earl Grey tea and cookies in vintage China during the break. Thoroughly enjoyed, will go again.

I went for the jazz concert, the musician played in the middle of the 200yo living room. It was the best place I could have a concert in! The manager was really welcoming and took time to explain the history behind the house during the break with a nice cup of tea. What else can we ask?!

In a city that seems intent on destroying its past as fast as possible, the few remaining Victorian houses in Vancouvers central district are a welcome sight. The Roedde House Museum is also situated in one of the last remaining Vancouver neighborhoods that can still call itself one. The rest of the citys downtown core is speedily changing into a faceless collection of bland looking, mostly residential, skyscrapers.

Pretty, well-kept house in Vancouver with many period artifacts and decorations. The staff was quite helpful on a number of topics including suggesting a place to eat. Thank you Montana.I went for the new speaking engagement they had about the era. It was about Lewis Carrolls writings and parallels (pun intendedwith Euclidean geometry. I never knew about this.

Incredible time capsule! Stepping into this little pocket of history was so captivating. The smallest details were on display to really let a person imagine what it would have been like to live there. The amazing history of the family and all its treasures, was neat. The house itself was the best part. All the rooms and decorations were excellently preserved.

Interesting old house in Vancouvers West End. Very tight staircases and the rooms are all very small. Would not want to go there on a day when there were tons of people. Crammed with all kinds of artifacts and pictures from that era Late 1900s. Kind of a buzz kill when you came down stairs and you ended up in a kitchen full of microwaves and dishwashers etc. I imagine if you had a guided tour they would more than likely steer you away from that area. A guided tour will set you back only $5 well worth it. Since I am sure there are a lot of stories to be told about that house and the artifacts it encases. Nice green space on the West side to relax whether permitting. But isnt that always the case in Vancouver.

A wonderful glimpse into that period in Vancouver history just after the rapacious axes of the Canadian Pacific leveled the local forests and cleared the way for their trains to connect Canada from sea to shining sea. As usual, the developers were here before everyone, building neighbourhoods everywhere. Two deer heads mounted on one wall were shot in nearby Stanley Park. The Roedde House museum is a beautiful example of the architecture of the era. It is fitted out in furnishings and artifacts that fit the period.

This is a lot bigger than is seems in the pictures, and the only museum of this era Ive ever been in that allowed you to actually touch things. They have an original Underwood type writer and an Edison Amberola music box, the volunteer even wound it up and played the music on it.There is a new collection of photographic material and equipment being added upstairs. It wasnt fully setup when we visited but was already pretty impressive with some pure treasures on display. The volunteers really do make the tour and bring things to life and tying seeming unrelated items into the story of the family throughout the years.

Spent an extremely enjoyable afternoon at this little hidden gem in Vancouver. Staff were friendly and polite. Special kudos to Anika (sp?who showed no signs of impatience to our incessant questions and even though we inadvertently stayed past closing time, she was more than happy to discuss what interested us. Have recommended to friends who will be visiting Vanc in Spring. Well worth the visit. Thanks to all.

What a hidden gem! Fascinating little museum providing an insight into the architecture and heritage of Vancouver through the home & artefacts of the Roedde family, located in a beautiful, peaceful, leafy square away from all the hustle & bustle (and yet only a few minutes from Robson Street).

Roedde House museum is an interesting peek into middle class life in Vancouver 100 years ago. When I visited, the volunteer docent was friendly and knowledgeable. I was most interested in the old pictures of Vancouver, as well as some of the artifacts connected with prominent figures in Vancouvers history. I suspect that these would hold more interest for people familiar with Vancouver than those visiting the city. That said, the price of admission is modest and would be worthwhile to anyone with an interest in history. Heritage Square, adjacent to the house, is charming and open to the public for free.

We stumbled across this lovely little museum while exploring the residential area nearby the Westin Bayshore. The house was built in the 1920s. It is so nice to see this architecturally beautiful home restored and maintained as a museum. While the furnishings are not original to the home, they are appropriate to the Era.

Had a volunteer guide. Going to hear music next time. Nice place. Nothing is authentic to the Roedde family however the house is filled with period pieces. This house is not wheelchair accessible. I do not recommend bringing small children or people with mobility issues. Understandably the passages are narrow, the steps are steep and everything is untouchable. There may have been a staff washroom but there definitely is not a gift shop or cafe. They are looking for volunteers.

My husband and I came to the concert all the way from Port Moody to see Colin MacDonald and Stefan Hintersteininger. We were looking forward to it, and our friend Vern Daalnik made us reservations to make sure we get in. He personally knows Colin and told me a lot of good things about him. We brought our twin boys as the poster clearly stated " Children welcome". We were nicely greeted by the lady at the door. We got seated and held the children on our laps. The concert started. One of our boys was quiet, the other was very interested in everything and kept pointing at things and asking "whats this?" from time to time. My husband went in the other room with him because the concert has already started and everyone was quiet. After a couple minutes I went with our other son to check on them. Thats one a staff member came up to us and said that we need to leave because this concert is not for children, its very conservative and people came all the way from Richmond (oh my godto see this. I said that the poster said children were welcome. He said that not children of this age. I said the age was not specified. He kept insisting that bringing kids was inappropriate. I got annoyed, got up and headed toward the door. My husband gathered our belongings. On the way out I asked for our money back. The senior staff member rudely told me to never come back. I told him not to worry because I wont. I went outside and broke in tears. My husband had to go back for a forgotten item and on the way back a big argument happened, with the same person. We left.Never in my life have we been treated so disrespectfully at an event. Id like to mention that we have brought our children to different events and have always been mindful of other people and taken them out of the room if they happen to get upset or bored.I have been playing principal cello for New Westminster Symphony Orchestra for the last 1.5 years and my kids have attended most concerts. Theyre always welcomed and sometimes people come up to me after the show and say hi and ask how my twins are doing, and say hi to them as well.Im very upset and disappointed with the treatment weve received. Ill never come back (that should make somebody happy). Some people just need to pull the stick out of their a$$. Yup, you read that right.
