Interactive exhibits, many kid-friendly, tell the story of elk & their habitat, plus a nature trail.
Very cool animals and displays. Knowledgeable people. Kids loved the gift shop selection.
Elk Foundation Headquarters no longer worth a visit. With a big fence around it now not really a very welcoming place. Maybe there motto is "Welcome to Montana, now please leave." Nothing like an organization that pleads and whines to protect elk population and habitat only to roll up the carpet for the locals. Great example of a Missoula "citizen."
It was a very nice trail with a great little stream running through it. Only thing I did not really like was limited access due to the private property around the trail.
Very informative, fun place to go. There are trails too
Well worth a visit. The only thing missing are live elk. The displays are very well done. Just about any question you have about elk can be answered here.
This place is a family favorite. Very nice displays and interactive exhibits. Some of the largest elk mounts I’ve ever seen. Interesting for all ages.
It was ok. Im a Rmef member. Beautiful place inside. Some nice mounts of elk and other native wildlife. There is a shop inside where you can buy a lot of the Rmef products that you see in their magazine, Bugle. For an elk hunter it was ok, just nothing spectacular. Its the main office for protecting and gaining access to public lands and habitat of which they are the leader. Hats off to them.
The visitors center is neat. Its a great place to show your little ones what real animals look like
What an amazing foundation, and what they do for all of us, is typically behind the curtains. Make a visit here. Its FREE and I would recommend to walk the property.
I liked it alot but I wish it had more to its self guided walk through tour. Finding the entrance was a tad difficult for a first timer but not terrible
Yeah Im from Texas and just got to see the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for the first time in Missoula and this beautiful lady named Morgan was really helpful and guided me through and just one what a great experience
We enjoyed the museum part and all the information on elk and other wildlife. Met some very nice people who were visiting.
Wonderful place to check out while youre in the area! Besides being an important conservation group, the RMEF has a great visitor center that anyone can enjoy. They routinely have events for kids and families, which are always highly organized and professional. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the facilities are always clean and beautiful.Besides visiting, Id also encourage you to look at becoming a member.
Highly recommend stopping in. Its so interesting and a beautiful building. They have lots of awesome taxidermy on display.
Beautiful building. Lots of taxidermy - wasnt expecting that.A very informative museum/education center focusing on the various efforts to maintain a healthy elk population in the local geographical area and beyond.
Great interactive displays. Never thought I would hear Elk call inside a museum or watch the various herds migrate through Yellowstone. This museum should be required before Yellowstone for anyone interested in the Yellowstone wildlifeSeeing the full size mounts with a message of conservation was outstanding. This museum is great. We were warmly greeted by the receptionist.
This is a great little stop in Missoula. I suspect it is under visited because it is tucked away in the north side of I90. If you are into wildlife, preservation or hunting it is a worthwhile stop. They have really nice collection of large animals and an exhibit where kids can touch feel different animal hides, feel the weight of antlers and hear many of the sounds associated with elk. They have a cool animated map the shows how the different elk herds migrate, taken from real tracking data. They also explain how hunting is used to help manage herds and keep the population from growing out of control. They have several videos targeted to different ages. There is a nice path through the woods outside. Signs along the path explain how the different plants and environs support elk in the wild. Overall in interesting little stop. My kids enjoyed it and would probably visit again if we had a little more time, especially for the outdoor hike.
Outstanding educational opportunity for kids. If you are passing by Missoula this right off the highway. Free, donations welcome, with cool learning opportunities, clean bathrooms and a nice film area. Grant creek trail is right there to stop, walk and stretch. If you are going to pull off in Missoula stop here, its the better of the three exits.
Beautiful place. Friendly gift shop person.
Youll learn all you need to know about the local wildlife at RMEF. Plenty of informative activities and videos to tell you their stories.
As a hunter this is like Disneyland for me. For those not from the west this is a great educational experience. Not a lengthy visit and even has a brief nature interpretive trail. Good place for kids, too.
Every hunter should go here these trophy Elk are amazing. My granddaughter loved it too.
It was interesting and informative, completely different, clean, and awesome of Elk, and so many other fascinating displays. The store was nice, and the entire museum ( if you willwas so clean and modern. Just a beautiful place, that you HAVE to go see... in Missoula
Great place for an educational and fun trip for the whole family. The museum inside is very informative and hands-on, plus outside there is a short hiking trail with informational boards all around. I love bringing my daughter here.
Very nice, well taken care off. I really appreciate that you go there and look around or buy something and they do not nag you to give money, several other organizations we visited continue to ask for more money.Very good location and plenty of room for a camper. Wonder if they have considered building a little bit of a playground ?
The current National Geographic exhibit (April 2109is worth seeing, incorporating scientific research and the visual arts to explain the importance of elk in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Ive visited before, and like that exhibits and films change out, so its worth coming back on my occasional trips to Missoula.
Some amazing animal displays. Great quick educational trip for kids. Easy hiking trails out back too.
If you havent been recently...they updated their facility with some new exhibits! If you have never been...stop by for a free, educational experience learning about one of the Rocky Mountains greatest resources: elk! They have a great selection of activities and friendly staff. Large groups would probably call ahead for a tour!
This place is phenomenal! Located right here in beautiful Missoula Montana. It is certainly worth a trip just to check out the history and heritage. You can also see some of the largest elk ever taken with rifle and a bow. What they do for conservation and what they continue to do for elk and public lands is well above par. You should really consider a membership if you enjoy recreating outdoors and or hunting our public lands. Without them I would hate to see what the future of elk and their habitat might look like. I will continue to support them in all they do and will hopefully be able to afford a lifetime membership someday. Thanks for everything!!
Everytime I go they knocknit out of the park. They have amazing kids activities and field days. They are dedicated to wildlife conservation and their work has helped keep Montanas lands open and safe. They work with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks and host hunters education classes. My kids just finished their course there and it was awesome to get to take the class on such a wonderful facility!!
Fascinating place. They have more elk mounts than youve ever dreamed of in one place. Not only elk mounts, but most of the other large animals that live in the Rocky Mountains. Mentioned in the novel, Aikido Anaconda, it opens a whole new world to those not born to the mountains. You could bring the whole family here and spend an hour or two just browsing amongst all of the different displays. Nice gift shop, with lots of different sweatshirts, hats, other knick-knacks. Definitely worth a stop if youre in the Missoula area.
Well - awesome describes this location, complete with record elk from several states including Washington, Montana, Oregon, etc. Very educational about how we hunters have saved many species from extinction with the taxes we pay for our products we purchased. If you are in that area - Missoula Montana - you need to put this on your to do list.
Loved the statue outside and all the mounted animals inside. We stopped and went through the whole place and loved it. We also walked the property and it was beautiful. Was an awesome place. Very informational and beautiful. I would love to go back again!
Great museum with very interesting elk mounts. Very informative, a great stop while traveling and a can’t miss if you over night in Missoula!
Beautiful elk statue outside, many amazing stuffed critters inside, a movie room that always has something educational going. The atmosphere is great, quiet, museum-like. Their bathrooms are even amazing and they have a wonderful trail to walk that starts at the side of the building. You always see some wildlife when walking it. Wild turkeys and deer mostly.
Really nice way to spend a couple of hours. Interactive activities inside and a short stroller friendly trail walk outside where we saw four deer prancing around.
Great visit that is only about an hour. Learned a great deal about how elk almost had the same demise of the American Bison. Very visually engaging.
Awesome. Fun for all ages. Educational. Super friendly and very accommodating. I could of spent hours more here but unfortunately was rushed to get back on the road. Will be back on the next trip and will continue to be amazed at all the information and cool things to see.
Truly an amazing place!!👍🏽 If youre at all into hunting definitely stop in if youre anywhere in the area!! And even if youre not into hunting it would be interesting to....they have lots of mounts and interesting facts about elk....plus they have a movie that shows you what RMEF does and gives you a little taste of hunting!😃👍🏽🏹🦌
Cool place, they have the world record elk killed by bow
Nice place to go for visit.Very interesting displays, nice natural walk too.
Tons of awesome information and large game replicas to showcase the beauty of these majestic animals.
Great place to take the kids! And its free!!
Outstanding facility and friendly staff. My daughter recently completed Hunters Safety at the Elk Foundation and thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks so much for all you do!
We stopped here on our way to Yellowstone and it was worth the 30 minutes we spent walking around. Was neat to hear more about elk habitat and preservation in this area of the world. We were actually blown away by how massive and nice this museum is. Clearly run by some well-funded Hunters.
Everyone in the visitor center was very helpful and informative, willing to explain the displays and talk about local conservation efforts. Also, the hall of fame of elk mounts was exciting to walk through
This is a MUST GO TO place when you visit the Missoula Montana area. You get to see some real Boone & Crockett head mounts of some great trophy elk and you can see a mountain lion, beaver, skunk, birds of prey, beaver, dear, moose and on and on. Yes they are stuffed (taxidermy head mountsbut you get to see them up close and personal. Great gift shop, great employees and theres a free theater where they show nature shows and hunting techniques. For someone who isnt able to get up close and personal its a great place.
We had to stay at the Econo Lodge while my husbands tractor trailer was broke down. We walked here from the Econo Lodge, it was a fun way to spend a couple hours.. very informative.
Your organization has done a great job on the Elk population. When people visit out west or where Elk are located they should keep in mind that this is mostly in part of the RMEF and should be supporters of this great group. I am from Missouri but I visit out west two or three times a year and love to see these animals in there environment. Not only are you protecting or preserving the habitat for the Elk, there are a number of other animals and streams that benefit from this. The US people should understand this and help with any efforts they can to keep this going. This is something we can hand down to generations to come and something RMEF should be very proud of.
An interesting, well-kept, and informative museum and gift shop regarding the natural history of elk in North America. There are lots of really cool taxidermied animals and natural specimens to look at here; this is a very specifically-oriented center but if youre interested in learning more about Montana wildlife this may be worth stopping by.
