Moor, Cashel, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, Ros Comain
Limestone outcrop with Medieval edifices, including a 12th-century tower and a Gothic cathedral.
Most informative and interesting tour. Cashel is a beautiful cathedral in a gothic style. Absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommended. So glad we went. The photographs speak for themselves.
One of our favorite Medieval ruins we visited over the years. Its just stunning as are the views of the surrounding area. Some really cool history behind it as well.
Beautiful and unique heritage site. It is rare to have a cattle attached to a church with an ancient round tower. There is also the unique sandstone Romanesque chapel. This place has a long history as the seat of the kings of Munster. The site tour is well worth it and included in admission. Ask about the special tour of the chapel. Only 200 people a day are allowed in to that special tour.
Beautiful spot to visit if You are interested in history of Ireland. You will have nice walk around and inside of castle, wher You can find some graves/tombs with lovely engraving. Unfortunately there is one thing which I didnt like about it ... Cormacks chapel is closed for visitors, You can only visit it if You are part of guided tour, which in my opinion is bit unfair. Anyway I would recommend to visit this place.
Went in late September, it was beautiful and very fascinating. Chapel tour was the highlight, it’s very ornate inside and has a rich history. Favorite castle in Ireland because of its historical significance and impressive architecture.
This was our first stop on our guided tour and honestly, I was in awe! I didnt want to leave, but our time was limited. So much to explore and learn! If you can go there on your own, it would be best. Being on a tour, our time was short and I didnt get to see everything I wanted to.
Breath taking no matter how many times you see it.Would have enjoyed more if the museum part was open. The walk to it is enjoyable. Worth it to have guided tour then explore on your own after or before.
Great day out and a must if you are visiting from abroad. Highly recommend getting there as early as possible.Dont miss the Chapel for an extra €3, you can only enter on a tour.
This was such an impressive place rich with history and some folklore. The guide was fun and made the place feel alive. The conservation efforts are extremely impressive and I am glad they are taking steps to save this beautiful place for future generations to see.I strongly recommend seeing it in person but you can also watch a video on it by Rick Steve when he traveled Ireland.
Amazing site. One can easily spend hours here. The chapel was sadly closed but the view of the surrounding hills just great. Regretted we didn’t have a picnic to sit and enjoy the tranquility.Entrance fee is Euro 8, when we came they only took cash. Luckily, we had the money as it would be unfortunate to miss this landmark.
Incredible. The tour guides that lead you around the space are so fun and knowledgeable, and taught us a ton in an entertaining way. It’s a beautiful area with a rich history - you won’t be disappointed! Quite inexpensive/cheap too.
Absolutely stunning, a must see, looks so majestic up on the hill as you drive into the town! Parking is at the foot of the hill and only a short stroll up to the castle. We didn’t do the guided tour as we had kids with us but I would recommend the tour if possible after over hearing interesting snippets as we strolled around.
Very scenic as well as historically and architecturally rich place. Well worth the extra few euro per person for the chapel tour, kids under 12 came in for free. The views from the hill on a good weather are stunning.
Sitting on a big rock out in the middle of Irelands landscape. This place has a commanding view of the surrounding area. From the walls you can see for miles. If you can I would recommend going if you can. you can see most everything in about 30 min, or spend hours really exploring.
Really impressive. Its a long and very steep walk up.It is well worth it. It is amazing looking. Both my kids love it. The views, the scenery, everything is amazing.Inside is a sight to behold.Fully recommend for all ages
This was our first historical ruin in Ireland. The views were incredible, the tour guide was amazing and the grounds were large. We got there on a windy day so it wasnt very busy at all. It is good to note that it is a pretty steep walk uphill for those with physical disabilities. The grounds are also rocky and uneven.
What a great opportunity again to learn more about the history of Irish countryside. It is amazing to actually see what you have read about when you grew up in the United States and history books. I am very fortunate to have been able to take the turf of this this historical site. If you have the opportunity I highly recommend and it does not take very long what a gem of a structure.
Beautiful Castle in the town of Cashel.Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, free parking and toilets available. The admission fee is just£8Nice walks around .
Lovely castle on a hill. The view is amazing ! The tour is short and to the point! Once the tour is done you can explore on your own.
We loved the tour explanations. Please be aware that you have the first 20 minutes free for the parking but you need cash to pay the ticket. Is an ATM available in the store in the corner close to the bathrooms.
First actual castle we could visit. Fee for two hour tour. Quaint village. Popular stop for toilets. Other than castle not much else to see.
Beautiful castle, worth to visit. There are guided tours available but we preferred to visit it on our own. At the entrance it is possible to scan the QR code in different languages to get a video guide plenty of information. The view from the rock is magnificent even in foggy days. The castle has no roof so you do not actually visit rooms inside but the remaining structure is absolutely stunning.
Lovely castle and amazing views of surrounding countryside and town. We stopped off for a visit on our way home from Cork to Dublin and very glad we did. Would definitely visit again.
Magical experience. We could feel a kind of pressure on our chest when we got up the rocks - Idk if anybody else have experienced something similar... As if hundreds of years of history was to come at you all of a sudden.Theres a free guided tour and also an educational short film in one of the buildings. Theres an entrance fee but its so worth it. The experience is very unique...
After having lived near it for so long, was only after I immigrated and returned for a holiday when I visited it for the first time with my partner, and was both intrigued and proud hearing the detailed history from the lovely tour guide Patrick. He had a wealth of information and patiently answered all our questions, even offering to take photos of us.Cant recommend it enough, for both locals and tourists.
Iconic place from a far. You can see parts of the rock from outside the town. Famous place for people to come and see. I didnt go inside as it was locked. Tourists come during the day.Class old ruins of an Hoar Abbey beside it and famous graveyardField of the Queens helicopter landing close by.Small town of Cashel beside it. Lots of ruins around town from many of years. History still available to see
I have always wanted to visit this imposing fortress. It is still very impressive. The views it affords are spectacular. There are self-guided tours, which is very convenient.
Really impressive place with panoramic views. Really interesting history, the tour guide was very detailed. There is also a film in the restored choir. Well worth looking it up yourself on the Web for further details.
Phenomenal! It is one of the ruins that we enjoyed most! It is on a hill and the parking is at the foot of the hill. A short wait for the tickets (€8and you are in! I would recommend the tour as the guide walks you through and tells the story of this grand structure. The old wall scripts are protected but visible to the public. It is amazing how much is preserved for us to see and enjoy. Definitely take your time and walk around. There is another ruin down the hill which is also amazing to visit. You can take the short cut through the grass field or you can take the paved walk around the Cashel grounds. Recommend both! Great site!
A great experience. We arrived at the Rock of Cashel before opening time and went to the near by abbey. It was a beautiful day with amazing clouds. It was quite early when we went into the cathedral and we were leaving by the time the first tour busses arrived. The architecture is amazing and the views stunning. Definitely a must see in Ireland.
Just such a beautiful sight, no matter where you look! We got there too late to go inside but the experience was still worth it because just looking at Cashel and its surrounding area is enough. There aren’t many benches on the walk up, though, so it may not be suited for physically disabled people.
Awesome castle/cathedral/chapel! Very long history and views of the surrounding area. Short live tours are available throughout the day which are also included in the basic entry. Loved every minute by Jim!
Beautiful place in a beautiful land. Soak in the green of this place, it is hard to match. We were here quite a while ago and I would like to return. We stayed in town and spent the day exploring the rock and surrounding landscape. A worthy visit.
Beautiful place. As the father of two small children, I do not recommend taking a stroller/buggy - definitely carry the children. Theres too much gravel to roll them around!
Small but beautiful place. I advise to do some research about the history and facts online before the visit. And then just admire and enjoy the surroundings ☀️
One of the largest castles in Ireland, so cant be missed. As such, it can be a bit busy so expect a crowd. The hill walking up is a bit steep, so keep mindful for seniors or physically challenged folks. But once youre up, it is amazing to see an 800yr old castle - and one of the best parts are the views out to the countryside. You will not be disappointed!
Interesting historical site, very picturesque with lovely scenic views. There is a guided tour available and paid parking nearby. Definitely worth a visit.
Parking €4.50 on the carpark. Entrance usually about €11 about the computers were down and we got in free.Definitely worth a visit and there is plenty to look at. There is a small cinema room with a film of the history.
8 euro ticket. Mmmm i didnt go in. However, I was there for a good 5 hours. Could have been longer. So u can go around the castle like a trek for free. And theres a heritage walk thats interesting. Theres a grannys cafe near the parking. Good for sandwich coffee and lemon cake. If you wish yo bring your own food, there are picnic tables in the parking .Theres a euro 4.50 parking fee for whole day. So we went trotting around the town looking for icecream . All in all, cute little town. Experience it.
A definite must see. You can feel the history just from walking around. It is easily accessed but would be difficult for a wheelchair. Toilets are close and clean.
Beautiful site that is well worth the price of admission. We bought tickets in advance online but there was no line and we were able to enter without waiting and it wasn’t too crowded (on a Monday morning). There is a car park with ample spaces that charges a small fee. There’s also a couple of shops next door if you would like a souvenir.
We paid 11 euros for entry and additional cathedral tour. The general tour is also included (part of base packageand is lovely! Interesting stories and conserved/restored history!
Great to be able to see this up close. We had an amazing sunny day which made the experience very pleasant. But probably on an overcast day or even a rainy one would make this experience creepier and still feel amazing. Recommend walking the grounds and even going to the abbey at the bottom of the hill where it was deserted and really cool to see too. That part is free if you just wish to go there.
Perched on the top of the hill in Cashel, this is certainly a site to behold. Parking is at the bottom of the hill , a couple of euros.Once inside you can view videos in the auditorium or wonder around the grounds , get amazing views of the surrounding countryside , Cashel itself and the Hore Abbey which is close by.Most of the castle is still in very good condition with many great photo opportunities
Interesting site, although not too much to see when we visited as the chapel and other indoor areas were closed. Fascinating history and a striking location on the hill overlooking the surrounding area
What an incredible experience. Having to pay for entrance is welcomed as it ensures maintenance and cleaning is top class. An incredible experience which can take the imagination straight to life in centuries past. Incredibly scenic surrounds frame the pictures beautifully. P.S. Student discount available with provision of a Student ID
A wonderful stop and if the weather is beautiful it’s a great photo stop! History is amazing and well worth the trip. Your does not take as long as other cathedrals as it is ruins.
Amazing. Iconic. A true must see. More than 1000 years of history. Tour the Chapel and learn about medieval Ireland. The gotic cathedral is just ruins but spectacular. Even in a hailstorm ;-)
Stunning ruins! I am a lover of history and medieval architecture so this was right up my alley. Make sure you take your time & ask about the history from the team there - you will not be disappointed. Beautiful views, stunning ruins and beautiful Celtic art.
A really wonderful place. It is a breathtaking building and view. The scenery is beautiful. Visiting it when it’s sunny, rainy, morning or afternoon is equally astonishing.
