Rock House Trail - Historical landmark in Tijuana, Mexico
Rock House Trail in Tijuana
Description
Privilege
Nice and easy trail.
I park at Mt. San Miguel Park that has a restroom.
Good hike close by. Awesome Sun Sets.
Great Hike for team building events
Great hike right in our own backyard! It’s the perfect hour long workout. There are some tough spots though so wear good shoes!
MoreSo relaxing and very good pictures . I want to go again
The trail is steeper then we had expected and it being as rocky/ sandy made it a bit worrisome carrying a baby in a carrier. I’m glad we didn’t bring our dogs. It was too hot with not enough shady places for them to rest and cool off. Quite a few people on the trail. The views are definitely worth going.
MoreSunset was amazing such a great and relaxing thing to do!
Fun place to hike. Day and Night. Be careful stopping at night when all the spiders come out.
MoreGreat for people like me who aren’t really into working out but workout anyway. The dirt trail meets the paved trail at the top so it doesn’t matter which one you start on. I just thought it was kind of short lol ironically
MoreGreat weather, Great trail.Though the big American flag was taken, there was a smaller flag on hand.
MoreNice trail! It zigs and it zags:Wear shoes/socks you dont care about and git r done.
More1 of my local favorite hikes in san diego.
Hike took about 2 hours round trip for our group, it can definitely be done faster but I felt our pace was good considering we had a person over 60, and one with a broken arm. The trail can be steep at times and have loose rocks so you may want to ensure you are wearing shoes with adequate grip.
MoreAlways love this hike. Go early or during the week, this trail can get crowded! Unfortunately the historical marker has been removed! 😣😣😣
MoreThis is a great hike. 1725 feet up and 6 miles round trip.
This is a fairly easy hike. This hike is a out and back hike. It took us about 1.5 hours to complete the roughly 4 mile hike. There 2 routes as you ascend to the top. The new route which meanders through and then old trail which goes right through the middle. There are some sections which are steep but nothing felt precarious. Great Trail for the family.
MoreLove this trail. Challenging yet easy, and reaching the top is great place to sit, relax and meditate.
MoreBeen trying to hike this for 10 years. 😁 i did it
Awesome hike! A little crowded midday. Parts can be steep and rocky so bring good shoes and be careful!
MoreSuper fun and challenging uphill on mtb long technical downhill
Its a great "moderate" hike thats not too tough. Not too busy on weekdays and a nice blend of hikers, bikers and runners! The views along the way, and at the Rock House, are well worth it!
MoreGreat trail for biking and hiking. Ive literally been there over 100 times
Volunteers did a great job of identifying the path and the switchbacks help little legs with the incline. Just under a 4 mile roundtrip hike and about 2 hours with children. Great hike if youre looking to get out of the house and move.
MoreThe summit is a nice view and I like the flags. The parts when it was an actual trail were enjoyable but when hiking along the power line access road it was steep and slippery with gravel and up and down constantly. No views and in-between hills no breeze. We hiked early but it got hot quick and theres zero shade. So just be very prepared. We brought lots of water, sunscreen and hats and wore hiking shoes. Its November but still got up to 90. up higher theres a breeze. And we went up from sweet water river trial head. Theres a back way thats shorter a easier so Id suggest that way and not the way we came from. Its doable but the heat and lack of shade made it tough
MoreFun easy trail for the experience and in shape hiker. Great trail for a good challenge for beginners. Hikers, please follow zig-zag and no trail blazing to minimize erosion.
MoreLove this trail. Right around the corner from my house. Short but very challenging. Great views once you get to the top and throughout the trail.
MoreNewly adjusted trail. Just follow the signs. At an average pace count about an hour up and an hour down (if walkingGreat spot for mountain biking if you dont mind sharing the trail with hikers and their dogs.
MoreIts worth the climb. A destination for a fantastic view. Lots of hard volunteer and Fish and Wildlife staff work went in to making this trail a reality.
MoreThe newly remodeled trail makes it much easier for all levels of hikers to enjoy. Beautiful views!
MoreNice 40 minute hike up to the top. Approximately 900+ foot elevation climb. Beautiful sunset and 360° panoramic views of Otay Lakes all the way to downtown SD. Its very pretty right now from all of the rain. Lots a greenery and wild flowers. Took my 12 year old and dog who were able to manage fine. Seen about 6 guys on mountain bikes too. Take water, shoes with good ankle support, and a walking stick if youve got one. Nice trail and views. 👍
MoreIts good plac to hiking
It is a great hike! A bit slippery coming down probably due to loose rocks/erosion from the recent rains so be careful!
MoreGreat place for a short hike!
Fun hike, great views, bring plenty of water. Recommend first timers use the mountain bike trail to get to the top.
MoreBy far my favorite place to hike in all the hiking Ive done in San Diego. Absolute must for visiting family and friends and even those that just havent been here. Not only is this place wonderful for hikes but the bike trails are unbelievable. Not just the views but there can be some challenging parts to this climb so seeing them realize what theyve accomplished is pretty great, so worth the wait at the top. Its hard but all I request is that my companion not look back until we make it to the top and the self satisfaction they describe afterwards is so worth it.
MoreWe took the straight up the mountain route! It wasnt too difficult and Im pretty out of shape. Take water and snacks. Lots of hikers with their dogs and plenty of parking!
MoreFun quick hike. Steep at first but flattens out pretty quickly. Love the view and is a great hike for dogs or families
MoreWe decided to spend our afternoon off hiking and we found this awesome trail. Its is a little hard to find so I recommend that you read previous reviews to help you find it. I especially liked the one that tells you to look for Mount San Miguel Park in google maps. Thats the most accurate way to find the trail. Once you are in the park, look for the dog park and park near there. Just follow the path that leads to the mountain.I think there are several ways to get to the top. If you want to make it kind of fast and are up for the challenge, take the step path, itll take you like 30minutes to get to the top if you are in pretty decent shape. Otherwise, theres another path that kinda goes around the mountain, not sure how long will that take to make it to the top.The view along the way is very pretty and once you are on the top, you can see the ocean and downtown San Diego, -stunning view! The whole thing is a good workout and a great way to spend time with family or friends or even for a nice alone walk.Bring lots of water and some confortable shoes, hiking shoes if you are going to take the steep route.
MoreGreat workout, very steep incline with a beautiful view of San Diego and the South Bay. Wear shoes with really good traction, and hikes poles would be helpful too, but not necessary.
MoreTough climb at first, easy crest, going back is a lot of downhill, be careful of shin splints! Awesome view of west side from Torrey Pines to Mexico.
MoreAwesome quick hike, good for dogs. Kids are ok but not if first time hiking (personal opinionthe view is amazing. People can also use their mountain bike so both hikers, runners and bikes share the space. Great outdoors experience with the family and very close if you live south Side, CV area.Hiking with kids can be challenging and not all kids love the idea of climbing a mountain so its important to make it attractive for them, specially if they are not very athletic. Always take a first aid kit with essentials, plenty of water specially summer time, and most importantly snacks but for the kids we always take CANDY, best regard for getting to the top and it also helps getting there.Bring good shoes because of loose dirt its slippery.
MoreIt was an amazing trail and a very beautiful view over the area... a tour you easily can do with a dog. We have seen rabbits and a coyote who catched his lunch 😁.
MoreIts a good trail, I had no struggle going up but some of my friends who rarely go hiking had some trouble. So I would advice someone who doesnt hike as much to take it easy, also on the West side of the trail going down can be kind of slippery so I would take my time going down.
MoreThis trail is not well-maintained - it is badly eroded and slippery with lots of loose rock. The initial incline is crazy-steep so its a great workout, especially for how short the hike is (2.5 miles to the rock house and backand the views are amazing. There is a lot oftrash along the trail, so I recommend taking a trash bag and doing your part to clean up, and of course pack out your own trash. This is a dog-friendly hike (please clean up after your petand theres a trash can and poop bags at the trailhead kiosk. The sign at the trailhead doesnt state that dogs have to be on-leash so just be aware of your surroundings and if your dog doesnt reliably respond to voice commands, please keep it leashed. Plenty of street parking, and bathrooms available at the nearby Mt San Miguel Community Park.
MoreChallenging for biking an hiking really good. You can catch really nice sunrise and sunset
MorePerfect hike! Lots to see rocks sculptures and lots of greenery and paths. I recommend parking near the baseball field
MoreAmazing trail for any level of hiking, a little challenging due to steep, but nothing that can not be achieved... and the view at the top (OMG!!!Breath taking!! worth every step, every breathlessness on the way up.
MoreHikers, horses, and mountain bikes all share this multi-use trail. Dogs on leashes are also welcome! Start at the steel bridge across from Rancho San Diego or the ballpark in Bonita. One can often spot a variety of birds and blooming flowers throughout the year, as well as other wildlife. A nice little hillclimb up to Rock House yields great 360 views of San Diego and East County, and a great alternative to Cowles if youre tired of the crowds.
MoreFairly easy trail that starts with a low key uphill portion and then transitions quickly to switch backs and some steep straight aways. Overall it took less than three hours round trip to the top with young boys in tow, youngest being 4. He did it with almost no problems.
