Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork
Description
Breakfast starts at 06:45! Surely for a hotel near Cork Airport, it should be MUCH earlier. How do the lights in the room work? (See photo). And, the lift has still not been fixed. However the cleaners, receptionist, and waitresses are all lovely!
MoreVery disappointing for the price.Property and RoomsThe whole hotel looked like it had its best days behind it. On the surface it was good, but small details like broken toilet paper holders dangling in the bathroom, scratches and dents in doors and elevator, etc.The rooms were very badly soundproofed and we woke up several times because of doors falling shut or people talking at 4am.It was an okay stay, but for the money it definitely wasn’t good.Spa and SaunaThe only thing that could have saved it was the spa and leisure “Centre”, but it’s just an old pool with two very ugly and small saunas. the images make it look fancy, there’s a big sign saying “health center” or something, but it’s just a stairway to a small room with the two saunas. Pretty disappointing.StaffThe staff was less welcoming than all the Irish people we met on our journey. They looked tired and indifferent.SummaryWhile checking out they asked us how our stay was. I answered “it was okay-ish”. They did not ask any further questions.I guess “okay-ish” is their standard for a 4* Hotel.
MoreNice hotel, good rooms and very nice staff. Breakfast setup a was little strange but enjoyable had an stay.
MoreThe food and the staff was excellent but the room was very out dated a box room with mirrors all on one wall a drop ceiling with light around it and around behind the the back of the bed. Also the reception seem to be a long way away from car park very disappointed
MoreThe swimming pool is great, one of the best, whirl pool spa, sauna, steam room great relax after a days work. I love this facility.Great staff, one guy had just started working in the bar, so friendly and helpful. Well done everyone and thank you....see you again soon
MoreWe went for dinner and love the atmosphere there, food was beautiful. Staff very nice. I think our waitress was Dani, she was very nice to us
MoreLets start with the positives; Although the rooms are a bit dated, they were clean and comfortable the access to the pool, sauna and steam room was appreciated, very kind staff both at the reception and leisure center. Now the negatives: the TV in the room reminded me of the old days, no way to access any sort of streaming platform, incredibly peculiar choice of breakfast service, undertrained staff, a buffet style breakfast would be much more accessible to the guests, limited selection of breakfast foods, Id suggest the full Irish breakfast.
MoreLocated in Douglous village. Well maintained huge property. Very calm and serene. Common public transport is not available. Taxi option is good.
MoreWhen we went to check in, we were told that a member of our party had already checked in. I assured them that was impossible. They did find us another room. Our room was in the basement and had a refrigerator. This room does not have USB ports. We did have breakfast at the hotel and it was good.
MoreI dont know what rooms they have that actually look like that is in the picture. Room is old and musty, bathroom needs to be soaked in bleach. Maybe the stat rating in Ireland is different than the rest of the world but this is not a 4 star hotel.
MoreNo point writing reviews if managers /manageress do not respond. Room had air conditioning set at 18degrees - ok if you like uncomfortable hot room..
MoreGreat hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent facilities. 5* masquerading as 4*. The chef seems to have an excellent contact for beef and the quality is consistent.
MoreI pay membership to use gym and swimming pool. Im happy with the facilities. There is sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.
MoreI felt compelled to leave a review for the reservations manager Joanne Browne for her helpful assistance with booking my sisters honeymoon break at this hotel. I currently reside in Australia and wanted to book and pay for a suite for my sister and her new husband as a wedding gift. Being in Australia this is tricky due to time differences ect. Joanne was extremely helpful with helping me select the perfect package including a suite, with bed and breakfast and an evening meal. I have gifted this to my sister for her wedding gift and she was overjoyed and cannot wait to stay here. Thank you so much Joanne for being so kind and accomdating me.
MoreStayed 7 days and l can say that elevators never work, you have to use stairs most of the time! housekeeping starts vacuuming 8am and wake you up from the next door. Cleaning is fine. You cant open your eyes because of the chlorine in the pool.
MoreGreat staff, service and price. Lovely idea to provide a picnic & tickets for trip to Fota Island Zoo as part of packages.
MoreThey changed us the room with 3 beds for people when we have booked for four. We had to complain to get a room with the right amount of beds. They gave us a room dirty :-(... Also told us only breakfast was at 8:45 then again we complained and were told ok to go at 10:00 and was empty!! The stuff is very friendly and helpful but the hotel very dates
MoreReally nice hotel. Safe in the room which is always a must. Swimming pool very crowded and kids in the jacuzzi not so relaxing!! Overall a clean and cheerful place
MoreWe booked Rochestown park hotel as the venue for our debs. Everything was looked after and included in the price of the tickets and we were also given breakfast rolls on the way out! The function room was decorated beautifully and the music was fab. We had an amazing night and will definitely be back someday!
Morenot so good of a hotel, the hotel is old and so the rooms are pretty dirty! also the pool is so dirty, don’t recommend going to the pool. and the breakfast is 17.50€ per adult, 12€ for kids, and theres NO buffet, the waiters come up to you. (if that helpsso, overall, a hotel, but not a great one.
MoreSuite Room was beautiful !! staff were so accommodating and helpful and the Food was amazing !!! All 4 of us couldn’t compliment the food enough . Whoever the chefs were on the 31st july 22 are amazing ! Great stay overall highly recommend !!
MoreMy beautiful cousin and her fiance were married here and we had the best day ever. As many of the family were travelling from all over the country and the UK and further we all found ourselves spending 2-3 days together in the hotel. Apart from the wedding 🏳️🌈 where everyone had an amazing time we ate there several times and most of family are coeliac (thanks mum!and apart from a few hiccups we could not fault the food or service especially when things went slightly wrong. If I could make one recommendation its that only a senior member of waiting staff if not the manager takes allergy orders. They are the difference between us having a wonderful meal and time with family or being incredibly Ill for several hours and possibly needing hospital attention. The waiters did not write down our dinner order which came out incorrect, it was fixed and we were more than pleased with the outcome so I would never remove a star for that but this is the only thing I would say apart from thank you for a fabulous family reunion and facilitating a wedding I thought I would never see in my country. We made gra the law and I love it 🥰
MoreLoved our stay ever member of staff were very helpful and friendly, the food was very good and the rooms were small but definitely perfect for two the shower was unreal and the room had air conditioning which was greatly appreciated. The gym and swimming pool were lovely also Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return again .
MoreProbably the worst carvery I ever had! I was accompanied by my 92 year old mother, lunch was to be a special treat for her.The roast beef was of very poor quality, the meal was cold when served, I had to ask for it to be heated before I started to eat. At least some of the vegetables were prepacked, not freshly prepared. The dessert selection was very poor. The staff were attentive and helpful. The dining room lacked atmosphere, purely functional.
MoreExcellent customer service, after mistakenly booking the wrong date Michelle on the front desk went above and beyond to help us on one of there busiest weekends. We were very impressed and would highly recommend. Top class. Great welcome. Super menu. Will definitely be back.
MoreBeing a photographer, we are here many times a year and its always 5 star service to All the guests. Staff are so professional. Highly recommended.
MoreWe met our parents and uncle for something to eat. We were too late for breakfast which was perfectly fine. So we decided to have lunch while my parents only wanted tea and toast. We were sitting outside as the weather was lovely. We were told that we could not eat outside. That if we wanted to have lunch we would have to go inside. We could eat breakfast outside but we were too late for that. We could however eat tea and toast or a scone outside. My parents and uncle had already started their tea and toast and we would all have to move in if we were to have lunch. This to me is a crazy rule. Why would you have a terrace and not be allowed to have lunch there. I asked for an explanation but was told that he does not make the rules.
MoreBreakfasts were basically inedible (table service poor, meals Luke warm & undercooked. Toast = warm bread). Was refunded.Flusher on toilet difficult to flush for wife who has FM.Woke at 3.10am by shouting and screaming for the courtyard. Response was some people have no consideration.
MoreOnly gets 1 star for the bar food quality and the friendly cleaners.Stayed recently as a family stay and it is anything but family friendly. Four of us stayed including two kids. However only two drinks in the room and two towels. Kids werent acknowledged at all. Part of our deal was a picnic, however no drinks or sweets were in the bag which it clearly said was supposed,, and one of the sandwiches was chicken instead of the Tuna that was ordered.Staff are very young but could do with more training. Ordered dinner for 4 of us, however they were adamant I didnt order a main dinner. Which was rectified but not before they brought out my dessert before the dinner that they forgot. Kids only allowed in the pool at certain times. Chef at breakfast was nice first morning but was so rude how he spoke to us the second morning. Not as much as a have a nice day or enjoy your stay from the staff at reception. Asking for a glass of ice at the bar was like it was their own ice. I dont blame the staff for most of this, I blame the management, they need managing themselves. Not a great stay at all.
More(21-6-22)Not so great this time. €176 b&b on a Tuesday night!. Nearly double the rate from last time. The room Im in this time has paper walls. Not so great value for money. DisappointingFriendly staff. Good WiFi. Clean room. Lovely bar food. Excellent breakfast. Great value for money
MoreCheck in was very slow. Room was fine but very weird that theres little peep holes on the toilet door so you can see straight in from the hall to the toilet, bathroom, shower etc. Breakfast was tasty but not buffet which was unfortunate. The bar / bar staff however.. words dont explain how poor the service was the entire duration of our stay, which says a lot about the management. Constantly about 4 staff gathered around talking and only 1 behind the bar serving drinks. Ordered 2 whiskeys and 2 pints last night and it must have taken 10 full minutes to get our drinks after an absolute comedy of errors. The bar man couldnt tell a pair of reading glasses from a whiskey glass. He initially offered us 2 different merky looking water glasses. Then asked if 2 highball glasses would work and untimetly decided 2 large vodka branded glasses was a good idea. After that, one of the whiskeys we ordered only had 1 serving left in it so we asked for an alternative which was empty yet left on the shelf for some reason. After all this the prices were about 25% higher than they were on the price list on the wall. Asked why this was and it seemed like they made up an answer on the spot as they said prices go up at night in the residents bar, we asked where it said this and they didnt know. We queried this with the night time reception staff who said he wasnt sure. Seems like no one was really sure what was going on in this hotel the entire time we were there.
MoreHotel is nice and clean, staff were nice, however very slow service in bar, even though it was very quiet. Room itself was lovely, but the plug for the fridge is ridiculous. A tiny hole cut out of the back of the cabinet, supposedly for access to plug in the fridge. The hole is too small and just too difficult to plug in. Eventually had to give up... Breakfast was tasty, but over 17 euro for a full irish and you get 1 sausage and 1 rasher is shocking! Only table service too, so very slow to get what you need. Would be easier if could do it yourself!
MoreGreat weekend, staff are brilliant and everything is sorted straight away.a special mention to eimear who served us in restaurant she is a credit to your hotel.food was amazing.will definitely be coming back.thanks again to every one at the hotel.
MoreStayed recently to attend a funeral, the hotel staff were very kind and helpful, especially the lady at reception. Beautiful rooms, great food, they made my stay much better than I had expected. Cannot fault them, absolutely fantastic staff.
MoreNice hotel, very friendly staff. Lovely swimming pool. Bedroom was very nice but the smallest bedroom iv ever stay in. For dinner I had fish and chips which were over cooked. Breakfast was good however I ordered toast and never got it. There was also a car parked overnight in a disabled parking bay without a permit.
MoreEverything about the hotel, staff ,from management down are brilliant. Some young staff especially at breakfast and all so good. Had our daughters wedding there this weekend and everything was amazing.
More1. The Staff: Great friendly staff thats always helpful when needed.2. Cleanliness: very clean.3. Food: savage food. Always yummy in my tummy :)4. Car Parking: it has got lots of free parking.5. Others: the bingoloco thats there from time to time is amazing.6. Complaints: i have no complaints.
MoreStaff were amazing even there younger staff were professional as if they had worked there for years. We stayed for 3 nights and had dinner including. The food was amazing couldnt fault it. Staff really interact with our son which made him feel very special. . Place is a little datebut the location and staff make up for that
MoreThis hotel looked nice in the pictures when i booked but it was all on theSurface. The girl at reception was curt, not quite rude but definitely disinterested and seemed annoyed by my queries. My room was so dusty, the bathroom window was filthy, the shower had cracked tiles. It was a very disappointing stay. The hotel was also super noisy. There was some sort of debs on.Wont be staying here again.
MoreWas there for a funeral reception. Food and staff were lovely. Toilets though were very far away for a lot of the elderly guests. Had to negotiate 3 different stairs. There should be more accessible facilities for funeral guests as you can expect several elderly people.
MoreHad a lovely meal in one of the function rooms for a communion . Quick service with the usual items on the menu. I had fish cake , chicken supreme and medley of desserts. All really nice
MoreLovely airy rooms clean and functional but slightly dated. Food amazing, highly recommend food in bar area
MoreWent to a wedding here. Staff were friendly, the hotel offered loads for the wedding. Food was gorgeous. Lovely hotel.
MoreDidnt like that kids are BARRED from the pool early in the morning, lunch time and evenings!! So after a day out forget about the pool, they are quite militant about it, even if the pool is empty. One of the staff attempted to over charge for food and then got irate when challenged!Found some of the staff quite rude if Im honest, but some were decent. Beds are good and rooms are clean. 15 minute walk to Douglas Village where there are some nice restaurants.Wont be going back here.. oh dont play the piano!
MoreI would not recommend this hotel. My 2 friends from the US stayed 3 nights last week. The room was shabby - old cheap furniture and lamps and the curtains were torn - it definitely needs an upgrade.I had dinner one night with them. I had the seafood tagliatelle which was delicious - but I wasnt very hungry so thought I would take it with me. I was told they didnt do takeaway ! It was hotel policy ! I asked for a container so that I could transfer the food myself but no that could not be done ! I was very annoyed - here is a beautiful plate of food - not cheap - which is going to be thrown out. In my opinion - a crazy policy.
MoreLeisure centre policy NOT accommodating, hospitable and flexible, they wouldn’t let our family swim after 5.30 pm even if we were with our children. We arrived at the hotel around 4.50pm, They could have let us used the pool for 30 minutes. Staff at the reception needs hospitality training too, not trying their best , unfriendly! Their attitude is really “I don’t care if you are unhappy customers”. They didn’t try their best either. Stay away from this hotel , very disappointed! Rug in the family room very old, shabby looking, stained!!, needs upgrade! Unfortunately we just checked in when this big disappointment happened, so the only thing we could do was to go else where around Douglas to eat and drink where the experience was nicer. To the lady at the leisure centre with the attitude when we told her it’s not a nice welcome, your manager should remind you that well treated customers earn you your bread and butter. Not worth spending in Rochestown Park Hotel!! The hotel is pretty boring and empty, not many locals around. Please read the reviews well before booking, earlier ones mentioned how bad the hotel is.
MoreFantastic Hotel would highly recommend it. There is so many places in the hotel to have a bit of peace and quiet should you be after that. And outside is nice on a fine day. Close enough walk to Douglas Village also. The food is spot on and the staff couldnt do enough. So have a look at this hotel and you will see what I mean. Hope this helps.
MoreFantastic staff, very friendly and going the extra mile to accommodate any request, same for the restaurant staff and food quality but, as unfortunately there is a giant « but » if you are sleeping there, there is one issue that is letting down everyone… the rooms. They seriously and urgently need a serious repair or refurbishing… Please do something and you’ll have only 5 stars reviews for sure !!! Thanks
MoreThe swimming pool that’s open without booking is a godsend. Pool staff are friendly and helpful. Hotel rooms as others have mentioned are very dated. No USB plugs anywhere to be found but bathrooms did have US and Irish plugs for shavers. Paint was a bit cracked and peeling, carpet had a huge stain, bathrooms were not spotless but I guess manageable. On-site restaurant was good and staff service was also good. For the prices they charge the rooms really need an update though.
MoreDid not stay, went for dinner with family who were visiting, was dreading it as my past 2 experiences were not good. Our visitors needed parking facilities, and Rochestown park has ample parking. I was surprised and delighted with the food on both visits. The overall service, thanks to PENNY our waitress, was fantasticIn all aspects, she was Friendly professional. A pleasure. Thank u pennyFood was excellent this time.
