Roberts Bar B Que - Barbecue restaurant in Summerville, United States
Our favorite barbecue in North Charleston. Personally, I could swim in their hash.Old school, SC barbecue- not like the new-age stuff the hipsters are pushing. Clientele is mostly folks who appreciate the traditional way of doing things. If I had to find one thing to complain about, its their sides. While good, nothing is life-changing.
The Roberts family are the real deal. Excellent food.
I am not going to be a jerk and give this business a bad review but I was a bit disappointed. I have hard time calling a place a BBQ reasturant when the only bbq is pulled pork. Folks were nice enough though.
The bbq was amazing. The onion rings are to die for. I just love this place. I moved to Ohio and we come back every year, which is a must. We also get a gallon jug of the bbq sauce to bring back with us. Great customer service. Great people that work there.
The cook at the establishment was really rude when I asked to have my burnt onion rings remade. She only wanted to replace one onion ring then proceeded to grab it off of my tray with her bare hands (I also watched her prepare someone’s salad without gloves which is not a good look during flu season and all). At that point I was really disappointed and wanted my money back. However, The manager was nice and replace my entire side order. This is one of my favorite restaurants and I would hate to let one bad seed ruin my experience but this encounter disgusted me and made me second guess where I spend my money.
One of the best joints in town for awesome BBQ, burgers, and, not to mention, the BEST onion rings you will ever find. Its a shame that this is the only location and they close rather early in the day. But, if you can get here, this is a MUST do for the area.
Food is always great there and the staff are always nice!!!
Average bbq, slightly dry, kinda bland, needs more spices, need more sauce options. Edit: Stomach kinda unhappy.
Great food. FRESH food. Friendly service! This was my first time dining in and I was even more impressed!
It was not the Roberts we remembered to much sauce on the sandwich, onion rings were awful. Makes me sad their onion rings used to be the best.
Every time I come to Charleston I have to come to Roberts to get my pulled pork BBQ sandwich Carolina style with coleslaw along with onion rings and sweet tea.
Best onion rings anywhere. Yellow bbq sauce is welcome change from red.Went to Roberts Drive in 40 years ago. Still as good or better than ever.
The food is a little expensive but well worth the wait. The ladies are great and really nice and helpful. Love to visit. Love the food.
Need I say more!!!! An amazing burger, thats all I got!!Great service too!!
Wonderful barbeque sandwich and onion rings! Service was good too.
I love Roberts BBQ sandwich. I appreciate that its well sauced. The meat is always tender and tasty. I love the onion rings too. Roberts is a great alternative to the "usual fast food joint".
Burgers and BBQ what more could you ask for lol really good place for lunch
When I tell you this is some of the best bbq I’ve had, trust me I’m South Carolina born and bred and this bbq is the truth !
It was pretty good. Onion rings were great (fattening good). French fries kinda blah. 😟
Only ever been thru the drive thru on lunch break but the food and service is great. Quick and friendly
A bit disappointed. I had the regular bbq sandwich, and the meat was flavorless. No seasoning, and was overran with a sweet mustard sauce. The fries are big and beefy, but again, no seasoning. They do put salt and pepper packets in the bag, but we all know you must salt fried foods directly out of the fryer. The lemonade was way too sweet with no balance between the citrus and sugar. They do not offer combo meals, so everything is al a cart.$11.50 for the sandwich fries and my drink. If the quality was there, it still would not be worth that price. My friend at work said that the hamburgers and salads were pretty good.
Bar b que... to die for,, to much vinegar sometimes. Staff is the friendliest. Wish they would go back to serving milkshakes
Food was hot and fresh, service in the drive thru was friendly and moved as fast as they could with customers so deep into their phones they wouldnt move accordingly
Love the egg salad sandwich and their onion rings! The BBQ pork sandwich is really good too!
I never get disappointed with Roberts BBQ because the food is awesome and great but tonight the drive thru lady caught an attitude because she didnt hear us say sweet tea it wasnt a problem her catching the attitude was the problem for no reason. Sometimes you cant hear on those drive thru speakersAttended Roberts BBQ again and I believe the lady just doesnt like me. Theres no reason to be rude to me ag all
I really love eating at this place. Friendly staff good environment. This is budget BBQ. However the food is good and prices are fair
Cant go wrong with their onion rings ever! Sweet vidalia onions and funnel cake type of batter mmmmm. We also love their carolina mustard sauce. Something you cant find in other parts of the country. Happy Roberts was still here when we came back to the East Coast after 5 years away.
I have been going to Roberts bbq for years. And I have never been treated so rudely at the Drive-Thru Window like I was today. There was a young man working it today and he was the worst very rude. If my wife wasnt with me I was going to give him a few words on how to treat customers. If Roberts bbq wants to keep there loyal customers please remove him ASAP.
Great food and friendly service. Clean and cozy dining room. Good spot for the family. Will return and try the BBQ. This place reminds me a lot, of a place in Columbia known as Rush’s. Burger was great, fries were crispy and onion rings had a little to much breading for my tastes. All in all it’s a good quick place to drop in and grab a bite in a nice clean restaurant.
Club was big and tasty. Fries were good but the onion rings had a little too much breading. The banana pudding was really good. Nice clean open dining area.
They are hiring and actually having to cut hours of business due to the fact of not enough employees on hand... Although they are still doing an outstanding job serving the customers with a great attitude as well as serving good tasting barbecue.
I got a bbq sandwich, baked beans, and a banana pudding. The sandwich was a soupy mess with soggy buns after driving the short 5 minutes to where I was eating. The baked beans were alright but nothing special. The banana pudding was straight out of a box, no bananas to be found and had stale nilla wafers on top. All of the food tasted like it was coated in sugar, pork included. It was surprising that so much could be wrong. Will not be returning.
My only complaint is Im a North Carolina boy and wish they had red tomato based sauce in addition to the mustard sauce everyone in SC likes. Mainly sandwiches but a little one will fill up most people, the large one more than I can eat
This place has great barbecue and has a really good burger too. You can get a plate or order a la carte, with choice of soda, tea or shakes. The hours are truncated right now due to Covid, but you can dine in. Sides are what you would expect and service is friendly and courteous. Stop in here to keep this place open- the atmosphere is a notch above your average chain restaurant.
Probably some of the best hash and rice around. Country girl at heart. Pork is my FAVE protein! 🤷🏿♀️
I had the cold plate. I just personally didnt care for the flavor or taste of most of it. I thought the coleslaw was too sweet and the chicken salad just turned me off all together. Was just a disappointment for me.
I remember when Roberts’s was a drive-in restaurant on River’s Ave. many years ago. Now, we are down to this one Ashley Phosphate Rd. The portions and quality have decreased ever so slightly since the late 70’s, but no one else can still comes close to the onion rings !!!!
Stopped for a quick lunch. I would say this establishment is mediocre based on what we ordered. BBQ sandwich was okay, it seemed to have Carolina BBQ sauce which is okay. I ordered aside of potato salad and received a chicken salad sandwich instead. I was not impressed at all with the chicken salad. My child got a burger and fries and said it was good. I might go again and go inside and try different items based on other reviews. I really want to like this place. I will try again and report.
Good place for bbq 😋 Im originally from North Carolina so we have a vinegar based sauce but the mustard base sauce here was good on the sandwich nothing amazing in my personal opinion but the BIGGEST pleaser was tbe onion rings, and the sandwich. The onion rings were amazing the batter they use is like a hush puppy batter but it is so amazing and the club sandwich I think is what I had was made wonderful definitely with giving a try . Dont forget the onion rings 😂
Great BBQ, bbq sauce, fries and rings! The best!! Picture does not do it justice, this is excellent!!
Went through drive through and the woman was in a rush or something but yet they didnt have any customers. But the order didnt taste as good as it used to be. The onion ring batter didnt taste fully cooked. The burger had onions when said no onions. Now I see why theyve had a sign that says "now hiring" for a long time.
Greatest BBQ in the Charleston area hands down! I love this place and have been visiting since I was kid and the food is still just as delicious. The BBQ sandwich has about a half pound of BBQ on it and the fries are great! Will be back many more times!
Whenever I would come to Charleston Ive always wanted to stop and eat here. Omg, the rice & hash and pork BBQ is among the best Ive ever eaten. Dont forget the onion rings and sweet tea either! Keep up the fast and friendly service!
I was really disappointed when we went.. I just moved here from West Virginia a few months ago. Im a BBQ loving person. My boyfriend took me here on day after going to Frankies since he knew I loved Pulled Pork, etc.I was really disappointed. They didnt really have it. I was expecting a pulled pork sandwich with homemade baked beans and mashed potatoes or mac&cheese. It just wasnt what I was expecting. I was really disappointed. We both ended up just getting a burger and fries. We havent been back since then..
Roberts bbq is like stepping back in time! While this location is much newer than the original drive in with curb service in the late 1960s at the intersection of rivers avenue and remount road, the food is still throwback quality!👍From the burgers & barbecue pork drenched in sweet mustardy bbq sauce, to perfectly fried onion rings, all are quite tasty!
The BBQ was good. The onion rings werent bad, but the breading is really thick. And there are only four rings in an order. They have something called "hash and rice" which is BBQ cooked down until the meat is very fine and that is served over rice. The flavor of the hash overwhelms the rice and the combination just tastes out of balance.
Thalis place has most definitely seen its share of better days however the food still tastes the same. If youre looking for a good quality mustard based BBQ from a 1980s styled fast food restaurant flare then this could be the place for you. The place has lots of old styled booths to sit in complete with your own table lamp. If youre a nature lover, youll appreciate the plethora of large Floridian ficus bushes tended to inside. Old style ordering where counter help yell the orders to the prep staff still exists. The food was delicious, with me receiving 2 sandwiches worth of meat jam packed onto 1 bun. Everything tasted fresh. They are limited in how your BBQ is prepared - it seems to be a one-size-(hopefully-fits situation. And if youre not liking the sauce, theres not much they can do for you as it is prepared with the sauce drowning the meat. They should prepare it either way for those who prefer their meat plain. Both restaurants on either side of this one have recently remodeled - you would think this restaurant would take the hint. If youre coming for the food and can get around that, youll be just fine. The place was clean and there was plenty of parking. Plenty of food. Plenty of money spent. Overall an unique experience youll probably enjoy.
Onion rings are a must!! The BBQ was good but I will say I have had better. They need a smoker and not refrigerated bbq. The onion rings are awesome and I dont normally like onion rings. Prices are very reasonable and the staff is friendly and personable.
Always a great experience! The cashier was pleasant and the service was fast and the food was fresh. I have been coming here for nearly 30 years and I cant remember a bad experience. Lots of places go down in quality of the years but this place aint one of them. The menu is simple but the food is amazing. They could update the decor a bit (meaning alotbut the decor isnt what you are going for, its the great bar-b-q and burgers! This place was a drive-in once and still has that great nostalgic food thats true to its freshness and its flavor. If you are ever on Ashley Phosphate then this is a must stop.
This place is a local favorite and is always good. I dont think Ive ever had a bad experience here. Their onion rings are the best Ive ever had. Their BBQ sandwiches use a mustard base, which is very tasty. Their hamburgers are pretty good too.
