Robert's Place - Restaurant in Nanaimo, Canada
One of the only places to grab lunch on the island. I tried their Seafood chowder and it was absolutely delicious. Be ready to find a huge mix of food (from the take away/snack style to some more elaborate dishes). Service was very friendly. The place was full of locals taking their lunch which is always a good sign but also creates a good atmosphere.
Food was great!!! Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Burgers, calamari, fish & chips and desserts were so delish.. looking forward to dine in this restaurant on our next visit.
The best crispy chicken burger I’ve ever had.All dishes are very delicious but crispy chicken burger is my favorite 😋All dishes are just like home cooking.
Delicious Date square, coffee and chocolate pie! Cute and cozy warmup spot 🥰
Best beef dip Ive ever had. They have wonderful staff, very accommodating.
A great place to grab some lunch or dinner. The staff was super friendly and the food was amazing. Would definitely come here again!
Came here on a recommendation. Warm, friendly vibe with thoughtfully prepared and tasty food! The seafood chowder would be in our top 3 all-time chowders. Schnitzel was perfectly done with thoughtful touches like laying it on a bed of beets to keep it crisp and safe from the mushroom gravy. Beef dip used house smoked meat that was very nicely done. Service was warm and super friendly. Sure, the decor may be a bit dated - but good vibes, good eats, good times. ☺️
Excellent food. Amazing selection of deserts. Fish n Chips was the choice of the day. We will be back again for sure!
I had a Burger Dip which they didnt have on the menu but they absolutely accommodated myself and my party of 3
Fantastic restaurant we totally underestimated when we first moved here a year and a half ago. We had a bad meal during the height of Covid and didn’t go back until recently… great friendly clean with great food (although my chicken souvlaki came with 4 small cubes on a stick for $20 which didn’t impress meour meal was delicious. Have been again since and we love it now.
Excellent place. Really good food at reasonable prices. Nice outdoor deck. Very friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Great place to meet family and friends. A must if you are visiting Gabriola Island. Mike...😊
Good diner style restaurant. My clubhouse sandwich was well prepared and had a generous helping of real un-processed chicken. The setting on the outside deck was comfortable, service was efficient and friendly, and parking was abundant and close. If I lived on Gabriola, Id be happy to become a regular. I wish these kinds of places werent always off the beaten track and far away.
Not.a fancy place but excellent food. Chowder was awesome burger was freshly made. Beef dip my wife had was quite good. Just a dated place. Also had 2 homemade deserts rhubarb pie with an excellent crust and a pecan brownie. Nice waitress topped off a really nice lunch
Great little restaurant! Staff were very friendly, we were able to enjoy our meal without being repeatedly asked if we were enjoying it like they do at most restaurants, but they were still around to make sure we had everything we needed. They have a small menu, but everything we ordered was amazing! Would definitely go there again
Fish not enough salt and not tasty, fries could be better, Ive had better. Cup of Chowder soup very small& expensive and has carrots and celery not the best. I make better calamari than them. Very crunchy breading for the calamari, dont taste the fish. Service was long)
Amazing restaurant with amazing staff.. Ive had nothing but good experiences here - both eating in & taking out. I even ordered something I couldnt eat by accident (although it looked deliciousand it was returned no questions asked.. Couldnt recommend this establishment highly enough!
Actually the best food I’ve ever eaten.Fish and chips are perfection.Jacuzzi burger is great and crispy!French fries are top notch!Try them with the tarter sauce it’s really the best.
My boyfriend frequents this place and today we went there for lunch. I had the smoked chicken, apple and bree sandwich with onion rings. It was amazing. A great selection of locally sourced and diverse foods. I also was excited to see they do chinese, indian and Mexican nights to bring variety to gabriola.
Roberts Place is a must stop on Gabriola. Very friendly staff and the food is awesome. I had the BBQ Suzy burger and would definitely order it again. Real home made fries. Cant wait to come back and try other menu items.
The food was really filling. I had Chinese food on a Thursday night and it was very good. If you come to Gabriola on the late afternoon ferry please be aware that this restaurant closes at 6:30pm.
Omg this place was soo good had the best tarter sause I have every had in my life was even dipping my fries into it. Had the halibut and split the blue cheese burger absolutely excellent a must go. Been in town for 10 days and this was the highlight of the places we ate.
They were great about keeping people distanced with Covid-19. HOWEVER, serving staff did not wear masks, so I can only give 4 stars. Its hard, especially with the heat, but they are handling and talking while holding and standing over your food.Aside from that, the service was good, the food AMAZING (I ordered the grilled chicken and Brie burger with blueberry and bacon jam. HIGHLY recommend, and those arent ingredients I typically gear towards). My friends loved the fish and chips. All portion sizes were great, the fries delicious and crispy, the salad crisp and fresh.I will be headed back there to see what else I can try. (Especially since I havent gotten into the desserts yet.)
Ordered take-out twice now. Delicious meals. Fish & Chips as well as their burgers are amazing. They are also very professional in following COVID-19 social distancing protocols.
Roberts place is much more then just a cafe. You will find great dishes to enjoy along with fast friendly service
Great food and friendly service from Robert. The quality of ingredients was high and the presentation was thoughtful... the lemon dill sauce had fresh dill, for example.
Robert who might very well be the owner was super friendly and grateful for my patronage. Im halfway through my meal and everything is spectacular. Will update when I finish....Ok finished the food was really good and Robert didnt even point out how sloppy of an eater I am. Honestly great restaurant great staff het out and eat here
Small local restaurant, seemed to be the only one open during the lunch hour. Nice surprise, food was fresh (almost makes you feel that they went out the back and got a salad right from the garden), and the portions were huge. Had the calamari salad and the calamari was nice, tender, juicy and not greasy. Staff are very nice and friendly. A lot of the locals seem to eat here, so you know its going to be good. Dont miss
The food here is great, there is always a huge assortment of home-made in-house desserts that are delicious, and the staff are super friendly. I love coming here.
Amazing food alwaysGood people and good food
We came for one of the kids 10th birthday. The service was phenomenal and we were given the perfect amount of attention from Paul and the rest of the waiting staff. He recognized it was the girls birthday and ensured that she was the princess of the hour while not overdoing the attention. Paul also made sure she got a huge piece of cake for dessert and provided for free another for everyone to share! The food was delicious and all the kids agreed it was at least as good as if not the best versions of their favourite meals. Amazing Schnitzel and the beef dip was great. The fish and chips was proclaimed to be the very best ever. The prices we paid were not extremely high and we decided they were fair for the food and service we experienced. In fact we paid $5 less than what we paid for lunch that day and this time everyone liked what they ate! Were newly minted repeat customers for certain.
Roberts Place did the catering for our wedding at the end of April. The food and service was fabulous. The food was high quality, so tasty and beautifully presented. Our guests loved it too and we would definitely recommend Roberts for anyone looking for catering for a wedding or other event.
We had a wonderful lunch at Robert’s Place the service and food were excellent and we ordered a birthday cake .... Robert went above and beyond and came in on his day off and made us the most amazing Lemon Blueberry cream cake with amazing chocolate letters ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY’ the entire family can honestly say it was the best cake we had ever had!!!! Thankyou so much Robert and team at Robert’s Place
The best pie I have seriously have had in my entire life. I travel more than 114km just to get this. My family and friends rave about this constantly. Never miss an opportunity to eat here. Ever.
I was working on Gabriola for the week and did my best to eat at every location in the town. From the outside it doesnt look like much, just your ordinary diner. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. I was also lucky enough to stumble on this place on the last Thursday of the month when they do their "taste of India" promotion. The mango butter chicken was one of the best I have ever had! I highly recommend this place and the prices are very reasonable for the small island.
I dont know that Ive experienced a friendlier staff. The price points are reasonable. Food quality is above average. The pie is delicious and a must have. If youre ever on Gabrioala Island, I would recommend a visit.
This was my second visit to Roberts Place and both times were great. I recommend the wonton soup if thats on the menu at the time of your visit. Its a hearty helping with loads of veggies and big delicious wontons. Service was friendly and helpful.
Our favorite spot to eat on Gabriola. Had a New Years Eve dinner tonight. Prime rib was cooked perfectly and service was fast and friendly.
The classic breakfast was ok but the sausage was not cooked. I sent it back 5 times and it came back pink and uncooked every time. Finally i said no thanks they cant cook it. So the cook came out with 3 sausages completely back and asked if they where cooked enough. I didnt find it funnyOnly reason its a 3 instead of a 1 star review is the cashier who saw the whole thing gave me a 10$ discount on the meal.
Great food. Different specials dependant on season. The best reason to go here? Dessert. Their pies / cakes are the best you’ll get and all home made. I’ll sometimes swing by just to get a slice boxed up for later
This is patronized by local residents and many reviews are by local guides. Very plain restaurant, with old chairs lined in restrooms and filthy stepstool for children to reach the sink. Chowder and halibut were delicious, but halibut badly paired with tomato orzo (that tasted like Chef Boyardeeand spiral vegetables (crunchy but tasted like water). I asked for a side of barley risotto instead, which proved to be the perfect accompaniment to the fresh halibut. We took our dessert (a delicious keylime pieas a takeaway to enjoy at our B&B. Well intentioned but wouldnt go back.
Food was good, portions were big. The crispy chicken Berger we had was ok, but the double double Berger was huge and really good. Kids loved the milk shake and their grilled cheese and chicken strips. I do like the fact that they have kids menu here, and the services were really friendly.
One of the few restaurant on the Island. The food is tasty but ordinary. But it a good restaurant.
The food was delicious but the service was EXCEPTIONAL (10/10). There is obviously a lot of love and care that goes into the food and service, which left us smiling and content throughout our time at the restaurant. From the moment we arrived at the restaurant, David and the team made us feel like we were at home; REAL SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY (David is from Virginia). We sat out on the patio which was beautifully adorned with hanging baskets full of colourful flowers. The atmosphere was very relaxed; This is exactly the place we were looking for.Food (taste:8/10, variety/creativity 9.5/10): A very creative menu that caters to all dietary needs. We told David we were vegetarian and he was very excited to share all of the delicious vegetarian options that were available to us. We had the mushroom wellington with a salad (David added in a miso gravy on the houseand the black bean burger with fries). Both were presented very nicely and were very satisfying. David showed us some of the vegetarian specials that theyve been putting on recently; they sounds amazing, well have to come back and try (see the photos attached).Affordable: Both entrees were very reasonable at $12.50 each; there was plenty of food.Overall, highly recommend this place. Thank you David for being so warm, kind and caring, youre a true gem!Next time we are on Gabriola, we will definitely be coming back to Roberts.
What a lovely and delicious experience. The food was fresh and superb, nothing frozen or pre made from a bag. Seasonal menu woth a very nice variety of options and locally sourced where possible. The location is very handy, a few minutes drive from the ferry terminal, one could definitely get there by walking or bike as well. (we came over from Nanaimo to try it out and the food was better than MANY in Nanaimo)Service was wonderful, friendly, quick, we really could not have enjoyed it more. When one of the owners heard we had come from Nanaimo he came by to say hello, he was also so friendlt and personable, and we definitely let him know that whenever we were back on Gabriola we would be happy to dine there again. Great experience.
The food was entirely delicious! The owner came over to us and offered dessert and told us about the building and history. Very lovely place! Service was efficient and friendly!
We have lived on Gabriola for just over a year and this is my favorite place to eat. The food is consistently great and the atmosphere welcoming. Our visitors are amazed at the prices considering the great service and quality food. If you are visiting Gabriola you must try Robert’s Place.
Service was really good, and food taste amazing!
A nice little place to have a meal. The restaurant is clean and comfortable and the washrooms are clean. Our food was quite good I had a kale Caesar salad with salmon and my aunt had chowder. She felt the chowder was lacking in seafood. This place is busy keeping the wait staff hopping. They were attentive though and overall we had a pleasant dining experience. I didnt give 5 stars because the chowder needed more seafood.
Some members of our Amnesty International Gabriola Chapter group got together today for our first social get-together and it was an awesome afternoon. The sun was glorious. The food was provided by Roberts Place and we strongly felt the need to really give our kudos to Cathy, Nate, Denise, and all the staff for a really amazing meal. The food made our afternoon social that much better. Boursin stuffed chicken breasts, stuffed portobello mushrooms, roasted vegetables, red cargo rice pilaf with almonds and apricots, spinach salad with oranges, apples, almonds, cranberries, and a decadent, flourless chocolate cake. Robert provided the catering for our wedding at the Community Hall. From our first interaction to our last, Robert demonstrated professionalism, insight, and trust. He suggested a menu that was perfect for us, communication well along the way, and delivered a fabulous experience. Excellent.
