Locally sourced meats & seafood, plus craft beer & cocktails, in a modern, buzzy locale.
Went here for dinner and the food was fantastic. The staff was friendly. I would recommend this restaurant to other.
Absolutely dreadful, very few customers, overcooked, undersized steak. Be warned. If it aint full on a Friday its not "the best" anything
Great food, great atmosphere and excellent staff to top it off I always enjoy roaring grill
Disappointing meal. The beef cheek was tasty, but nothing special in terms of presentation. It came with some broccoli, cauliflower, carrot and just one piece of asparagus. The veggies tasted like frozen veggies that had been steamed and reheated. My friend’s steak, which he ordered blue, came out medium. The chef cooked another one for him but unfortunately was still well over cooked and nothing like what a blue steak should be. The presentation of the meals just looked very amateurish. Being July, in the middle of winter, it was freezing and we ate in our puffer jackets and coats. The aircon heater on the wall near us was switched off all evening. It had been a while since I’d been to this restaurant, but disappointingly it felt like it was really lacking anything special.
I dine there four or five times a year, usually with a small group of friends. I have never been disappointed either by the staff or the food, which has never been less than excellent in quality and preparation.
Very nice relaxing atmosphere, great food, awesome service
Perfect option for a reliably consistent scotch fillet steak, cooked medium rare to perfection every time. Steak and a glass of quality Pinot for less than $60 per head is terrific value.
Had arranged for a group booking as we were celebrating a birthday and wanted to try their set menu which was set at $65 a person. They were very accommodating and had no issue with any request ( which for us was swapping dessert option for the birthday cake wed brought along). For entree you get a platter of a mix of food to pick and choose from and for the mains you get a choice out of 5 dishes (I chose the sirloin steak on mash and salad). All the food was delicious, filling and the staff were always at hand if you needed them. The service was great and they timed themselves between meals for clean up perfectly. The atmosphere was very warm and relaxing and we felt the value was excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending them for a group booking. We were even given a discount for bringing our own dessert which shows how willing they are to be flexible. Great value!
There were a number of us, over 10, the food wasnt bad at all, the service was somewhat slow. Certainly not the worst restaurant but also not the best.
Excellent restaurant with succulent Tassie steak and good service. We also enjoyed the pork belly entree. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed a delicious 3 course dinner with excellent service and a quick turnaround between courses. The Braised Belly Pork entree was a highlight, accompanied by a bright apple puree and crisp salad.
Beautiful experience! Everything is amazing! Highly recommend this restaurant 🤘
After reading the reviews I was looking forward to a nice meal, in fortunately it was not worth the stop in, cold meal was a platter for 2, pork belly full fat and not crispy, calamari cold and chewy, even the mash potato was cold, service was shocking, having to wait for a simple glass of water for ages that we asked for the bill just to get out of here.
A last minute decision to go out for dinner. Steak cooked perfectly (rareand seafood risotto mind blowing! Yummy. Will be back
Was weary at first because they were going to place us at a table near a door but you would be practically sitting on someones knee at the next table. But after we asked to be moved it was a awesome night. The service was great, the cocktails were awesome and omg the food was to die for. Absolutely fantastic
We ordered Fillet Mignon with seasonal vegetables and a side of fries. The steak was very tender but the vegetables were cold and the steak just warm. The side of fries came out when our meal had nearly finished. Very disappointed.
One of the best ribs i had in Hobart, must try, great customer service with excellent cocktails options in the list
First time I came it was amazing. Second time it was average.. lets see how it is next time (Im talking about the steak here)
Had a great meal. Beautifully presented, service attentive.
They truly made amends tonight after the bad experience I had previously... food was amazing and my main was exactly as requested... our gorgeous waiter remembered me and went all out to make sure it didnt happen again... obviously the previous chef saw sense and is hopefully in a totally different job that does not require customers to be kept happy... Thankyou. We will be back!
Great service, friendly staff, meals were quick, prices were very good as the meals were fantastic, I had the scotch fillet and my partner had the skewer, no complaints.
Mushroom sauce is presented nothing more than couple slices of mushrooms dipped in gravy with no taste textured like water, doubt that potato puree cames out from microwave with too much water mixed in. Mix grill served in a small and stingy portion.Avoid it at all costs, waste of money.
The food was really good but the patatas Brava are amaizing. 😍👌
The Eye Fillet, Beef & Prawn and the burger with Onion rings were 100/100 . No fault. Fantastic food. If I visit again at Hobart then I will definitely come again.
From the moment l walked in to the Roaring Grill my waiter Tom made me feel so very welcome..he has the sweetest personality and just could not do enough for me ...the food and drinks were just amazing..l will be coming back on a regular basis with friends...
Arrived 6:45 for a 7pm booking, ordered a 300 gram eye fillet medium/rare with blue cheese sauce and chips, and an eye fillet medium with peppercorn gravy. Three kids steaks medium. All streaks came out as well done! With the two eye fillets coming to over 100 bucks I wasnt prepared to accept less than perfect. So we sent them back 30 minutes later we got two steaks with some kind of gravy poured over them sunken in a bed of mash. At this point I asked the server who had stated she was new earlier, to speak with a manager. I was advised by a senior staffer that the manager wasnt there tonight, so I explained the situation to the server before going to the pass and explaining to the threes chefs directly what we had originally ordered what we received and sent back what we had then received and sent back and what we expected third time lucky right! 😀 the manager arrived while we were waiting foe them to get it right on the third time we asked to speak with them and the server said that they would speak with us at the counter when we paid... 😠 great customer service... we drove 30 minutes to get to this place based on the reviews and the menu, we were excited when we arrived and the blue cheese sauce was probably one of the best I ever had. So disappointed but the issue was clearly on the pass. The third time cooking steaks and the medium was well done, and the medium rare was medium well on the out and medium at best in the middle. At this point we were starving I ate half and gave the rest to my wife, on visiting the counter to pay/speak to the manager I was given the I just got here speil, I explained the situation he could do nothing but apologise I explained that the wait staff were fantastic and we checked they got the order right! The chefs in the kitchen need a kick up the behind! My wife was crying as we left we ate 1 steak out of 6 and wandered around north hobart before finding a suitable option for her at Capitol Pizza and pasta! The staff were friendly and good was perfect but thats thats separate review! The picture is the one they almost got right medium
If I could give no stars I would. We went there for my birthday dinner and the meal was terrible. It was obvious that the lamb hanks had been microwaved as they were cold in the middle and hot on the outside. Wont be going back there again.
Might visit once every 2 years but not a go to. Atmosphere needs updating, food ok, service seemed to be restrained so as not to overload kitchen staff. Can understand this though given they seemed to be giving uber eats a priority over bums on seats.
I am a ribs specialist and the Roaring Grill ribs were the best I have ever had, melt in your mouth and so flavoursome. Perfectly cooked. The service was fantastic. Would recommend highly. The perfect birthday treat. Thank you Roaring Grill for a great foodie experience.
8 of us went for dinner tonight we all went upstairs The service wasn’t great a guy took our drink order and never came back then we had 2 young girls with an attitude who didn’t listen when you placed your drink order 😡 and as for the food well nothing nice to say about that either my girlfriend and I had pork belly which was as dry and tough as old boot leather however the side order of sweet potato chips were nice. No one at the table of 8 was happy with their meals 😡 not to mention we were booked in for 6:30 and finally got our meals at 8pm well all bar one of us who’s meal they forgot 😡 which was vegetarian !!! Meanwhile $375.50 later certainly not well spent 😡 it was obvious the quality and service have declined not not even a standard pub meal standard anymore since change of owners 😡 will not be going back again 😡 and we were not the only table complaining 😡
The service for a restaurant charging over $30 for a main was abysmal. They forgot some of our orders, which when we asked the appologised and said they would comp a drink (comped the childs $3 juice 🙄). It was then brought out once we had already finished everything else. The table was not cleared. By the time people were having desserts, i still had at least 4 or 5 main course dishes on the table, the gigantic skewer hook stand was still hanging around and menus were left having to be put on the dirty plates because there was no room for them anywhere else. It was a mess! Really disappointed and it takes a lot to disappoint me with food. Food in general was fine, quality didnt match the prices, but you get that.
Went in for lunch. Two wagyu burgers, one porterhouse steak, one halloumi salad. Everything was amazing, all of us were impressed with the great food and generous portions. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing, and at an average of $40 each, our meals + drinks were very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend.
Steaks were awful and the service (from the managerwas even worse. Wife received a well done steak when she asked for a medium and I received a close to well done steak when I had asked for a medium rare. Although I subsequently received a steak that was actually medium rare (my wife gave up with hers), the manager made various excuses throughout and even tried to push the blame on me at one point, and then asked if I wanted to pack the previous overcooked steak as a takeaway (when it should have been chucked in the bin !).. Also, the steaks were advertised to have been aged for a minimum of 30 days but I highly doubt this to be the case (steaks did not taste aged at all). Will definitely avoid this restaurant the next time I visit Hobart. Complete let down.
The lamb was finger licking good. But the Mac and cheese was a little dry. It could have been a little more moist and cheesier. However overall pretty good.
Apart from the undercooked vegetables the food was great. However my experience here tonight was upsetting. The lovely young waitresses were polite and very impressive however I was disturbed by the way some of the kitchen staff interacted with them. Some of the degrading comments made by the kitchen staff regarding one of the waitresses shocked me and instantly turned me off my meal. It appears to me that there may be some workplace bullying that needs to be addressed by management.
house slaw was soggy shredded iceberg and a few sultanas?! Drinks took 20 minutes, meals were over an hour, and items missed off our order. Steak was great, but service really sloppy and overall very disappointed at that price.
Dined with a group of 12 friends on Sunday 24 Jan. Steaks were terrible. All completely over cooked. Ordered medium rare and mine came more than well done. Six of the 12 sent their steaks back. I couldnt be bothered just mental noted never to go back. No apologies from staff, manager or owner. We spent $90 per person for one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The one thing they did for us which was an insult was to not charge us extra for mustard!!! Have never heard of a restaurant charging for mustard before in my life. The whole night was an insult. That the restaurant has not bothered to respond to my review after 6 days says everything.
The photos look great but upon arrival I noticed the set up was a bit cramped, the next table was less than a metre away and it was a bit noisey. The food was pretty good, but my meal was a bit small especially for its cost as some of the prices were a bit high. I was left feeling a little disappointed when using the Entertainment Book voucher they didnt provide the full discount rounding the price up a couple of dollars in their favour which was disappointing.
Amazing food.Presented beautifully.Staff attentive and friendly.Gr8 vibes.
Unfortunately the cons outweighed the pros during our visit. Our steaks were overcooked. They tasted fine, but they werent cooked how we ordered them.We didnt receive a side that we ordered. The waitress gave us wrong information about the wine list.We werent given any water even after we asked. No one came to do a meal check on our table so we didnt really have a chance to ask about our missing sides and such...We arent people who would make a big deal about a mistake, however, we both work/have worked in hospitality and there were too many mistakes tonight to not say something.
Attentive staff and nice atmosphere in the upstairs area, be sure to ask for a spot next to the gas fire on a cold night! I tried the shared meat platter and although nice, was meat overkill. The calamari and chicken were the highlights, the sausage and pork belly not so much, would be good to incorporate more salad or vegies on it. My friends enjoyed their steak and veg.
We dined here due to hearing lots of good reviews.I wish we hadn’t, as the food was very average and overpriced. The mixed grill was mish-mash of fairly tasteless meat on some runny mash potato served with a tasteless mushroom sauce. The risotto was very bland, served with a few prawns and some mussels. One of our party had steak which was ok but nothing special. On the whole, I feel like we overpaid for a very average meal and dining experience. The staff were very friendly but that’s the only positive from our experience.Would not recommend.
Really lovely place with great atmosphere. Ordered mixed grill and it was a bit bigger than I could finish :all steaks were really well-cooked, tender and delicious! The staff was really friendly too~
Superb food and vibe. The Calamari was soft and juicy, and the Tasmanian eye fillet was cooked to perfection and practically melted with each bite. The cherry on top of the cake was the creamy and generous serving of creme brulee. The staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient, and we felt very satisfied with our visit. We were a table of 8 and we had a really good time. Definitely recommend this restaurant!
We heavily researched where we were going to eat as we are visitors to Tasmania/Hobart and Roaring Grill looked the best by far. We thought we were eating at an upmarket 4star plus restaurant. We were extremely disappointed in the quality of the food, the meals looked exceptionally good and tasty however they lacked seasoning and flavour. Customer service was excellent and discounts were given to compensate for our disappointment. We have no issue with the cost of the meals if they were up to standard.
My family and I loved dining at this restaurant. We got there early, about 5.45pm to avoid any crowds on a Saturday night. We had excellent customer service from the staff, very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. The mains were large servings, very filling.Of course we had to have dessert, which was just enough sweetness to finish off a great meal.It was not a cheap night out but one that the 4 of us enjoyed immensely.
Amazing! Really good food, cooked perfectly, matched with great wines and terrific, friendly service. Calamari was a standout, steaks were excellent, wish I had room for an Affogato!!!
This restaurant was recommended to us by the locals. I ordered the sliders and a side of Greek salad. My partner ordered the scotch fillet cooked medium with mushrooms sauce and a side of onion rings. My burgers were cooked well and tasted awesome. My partner’s steak was cooked well which he was very pleased with. The onion rings were cooked in a batter that was a little to thick.Great night, great meals and great service.
Ive been here several times since moving back to Hobart. Wary at first that this was just another glorified steakhouse, I have been pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the food presented here. The skewers are always a novel feature at the table, reminiscent of the South American grills back in London, and if course South America. If youre into sharing your food with friends, the overnight slow lamb is to die for, easily feeding up to four people.
Food was tasty. A little overpriced but service was fast and staff were friendly.
