Ristorante Buca Mario in Florence

The steak Florentine was outstanding. Incredible. There is a great atmosphere and the staff is very nice. But let me tell you something funny.Our server dropped something which broke the container that had our wine in it. One of those glass wine jugs. So he grabbed a strainer, and strained the wine into another container. I mean... technically, I guess that is ok. All the big pieces of glass were left behind. But the idea of possibly drinking tiny glass particles, although most likely safe, was sort of.... not cool. For a €400 meal, Id expect better service than that. Accidents happen though. I enjoyed the meal. Id go back.

We were in Bucca Mario in August 2022. Everything was great, unique Italian restaurant! The food was so tasty, the waiter Roberto was so professional, kind and for the sweet finish gave to our kids a pack of italian cookies. They used us for the snaks in siesta hours. We will be back for sure!

Wow. This ristorante is a must. For a total of $160 (including tip), we got an appetizer (caprese salad), two entrees (ravioli with meat sauce and filet steakand a dessert (tiramisu.The food was DIVINE!! Best steak I ever had — we ordered it medium rare. Simple ingredients, outstanding, fresh quality. Our server was fantastic. I feel so bad that I can’t remember his name. He was so friendly, genuine, and a real pleasure. Thank you so very much!!!

This was a recommendation by a friend and I’m glad we went and checked it out. We made a reservation and though the restaurant was quite empty when we got there, it filled up within 20-30 min. We split a bunch of things: the cheese tray with apples, the caprese salad, bread, and my partner had the gnocci and I got the pasta with red sauce. We split a bottle of Chianti Classico and then ended with the tiramisu, which was very fresh and delicious. The desserts are brought around on a tray, so it was nice to see our options before committing to something. They all looked delicious.Definitely caters to tourists, but is a tasty spot with an extensive menu and high-quality ingredients.

I visited Buca Mario based on a recommendation from a friend whos eaten here several times. Highly recommend you get a reservation at it always seems busy and had a lineup even for those with a reservation. My waiter named Aldo did a great job recommending things to eat and was nice to talk to. I had the half portion of the ravioli stuff with ricotta and spinach in a butter sage sauce which was delicious. I then ordered the bistecca alla Florentine for 1 (50 eurosand it was massive. I believe it was around 800-1000g and was a lot to eat for one person. The steak was good (7/10but not great. However, the ravioli was excellent and so was the service.

Craaaazy good fiorentina steak, probably the best i have had., and I have had alot of them in Florence. You gotta go there, and dont fall for the tourist traps.

Absolute tourist trap 😵‍💫While the restaurant is interesting in itself (check the pics!), we paid €100 for a steak that was chewy, unflavored, and cold 😥. The service was also pretty bad - the waiter took the plate from under me while I had the fork in my hand!Pasta dishes were not memorable either - also cold, very little sauce, and bland in flavor.And that’s it for my savagery. Apologies! But just expected much much more from the lauded bistecca 🤷‍♂️

Beautiful ambiance in a high end setting. Servers in uniform and the owner in control of the operation. Known for their steak, but we went for the truffle pasta, mashed potato and their bolognese. All delicious.

First the service, amazing amazing amazing. I reserved a table for four at 9:30pm with my family since I had read wonderful reviews previously, the same ones you’re probably reading now. My expectations were exceeded.We were greeted by a super friendly waiter (Aldowho quite literally sang for my dad since he was in an obviously bad mood and he managed to raise everyone’s spirits. He was extremely attentive and kept checking in with us and making sure we were happy.Appetizers - we ordered two for the four of us to. The first was the zucchini salad with Parmesan and truffle oil, such simple and fresh ingredients but the balance of flavors was very appetizing and readied our palates for the experience to come. The second was a classic burrata and wow the mozzarella cheese looked like it had just been hand prepared, so creamy and fresh inside with a firm outer layer (cheese connoisseurs will know what I mean)Pasta - we decided to get their fresh gnocchi and and lasagne and share it among the four of us. The gnocchi literally melted in my mouth and the lasagna was very well done. I have never in my life had a better gnocchi, it has been my metric for down to earth and fresh Italian food for years now and I can say that I was blown away.Main course - I ordered the lamb chops, amazing flavors and large large portions, the other reviews aren’t lying when they say that. My parents shared a veal dish and wow did that meat just melt in your mouth. My sister got the beef filet with mashed potatoes and again the freshness, the cook of the meat, the sauce, everything! Sometimes culinary enthusiasts talk about foods being perfectly balanced as if it’s a simple feat to accomplish. Everything about a dish must be done perfectly in symphony to achieve that, and every dish we received during our service did just that. No one flavor obscured the other, they instead communicated beautifully in a harmony of music on the tongue. Trust me, you’ll know it when you try it.Apologies I didn’t get any photos of the main course since I was so excited to dig in!I rarely write reviews but I had to this time. I can say without a doubt that this place is a gem, props to the chef, our waiter, and the floor manager for putting on a wonderful and delightful show for our family. We were definitely entertained.

The food was amazing here and the venue was very quaint. I would highly recommend this restaurant if youre looking for a good steak.

Had to make reservations. Atmosphere was good but a bit crowded. Food was good as well but definitely overpriced for quality. Italian cheese platter was nice. Bread is bad. Truffle ravioli was very good and Wild Boar sauce pasta was worth a try. Not exactly the best tomato basil pasta I’ve had. The steak is very rare if you do decide to get it. Tiramisu was good and comes with strawberries. For ladies, they give out a tote bag with the restaurant’s name on it at the end. Overall, it was a decent experience but definitely can find a better experience for less elsewhere.

Every dish here was DELICIOUS! The steak is perfectly cooked and the pasta is amazing! The mashed potatoes were very smooth and the zucchini salad was incredible! Our server was a delight and was very attentive to us!

A favorite when going to Florence. There was 12 of us and we did family style. Way to much food but delicious. Starting with appetizers then 3 different type of pastas and then the Florentine Steak. Cap off with many bottles of the house Chianti.Fantastic I will always go back.

Great experience overall! Tuscan steak was delicious, they had the option to cut it at the table side. Also the Cappellecci Ragu was one of the best bites Ive had in Italy!Waiters have a great attention to detail and great menu recommendations.

Every base covered for a Firenze meal at a price. Food great, service amazing, extremely friendly, English speaking waiters who are funny and enthusiastic. Well worth the visit for quickly ticking the Italian food experience. Very American friendly.A few top tips. Portions are large so share them, and the restaurant encourages this to happen. An appetiser each, split a pasta, and then think about the steak. We had a half and half pasta option as we couldnt decide, charges full price for one and reduced price for the other. If youre both hungry then a double steak will fill you up. If one of you eats only a little, share a single steak. Sides are large so asparagus and mash between you is fine. Puddings from a cart, again share one. Wine list is good and steady, not a huge difference between the middle and top priced wines except the expensive ones are decanted.We left absolutely full, very happy, and the waiter was too. There are better pastas and steaks in Firenze but this is a classic for a reason and if you dont want to hunt out the latest top choice then visit here.

Best steak yet in Florence. Truly memorable

Lovely Tuscan food with really good service!The food is super tasty, you’ll have properly trained but very friendly front of house, the owners will come to say hello and you’ll even get a small souvenir like an apron at the end of your dinner. The wine list is also great - from smaller vineyards to world renowned supertuscans. Also, you get to choose your dessert from a dessert cart!As they say, make sure you book in advance so avoid disappointment!

Had an amazing dinner here…2 of us shared an appetiser (beef carpaccio with Truffleand a pasta first course (incredible homemade pasta with wild boar sauce), and then a main course each….the Florentine steak for 1 was impressive!! With wine, it was a little pricey…but well worth it.

Nice experience with Michelin restaurant , very good food , well made , along with high quality ingredients with carefully chosen to satisfy all visitors . Waiters can understand people culture and their preference , and recommend what is suitable to them .

This is more of an experience than just a restaurant! The waiter really made my evening. Plus their house wine and olive oil are both amazing. A little pricier but you’re paying for the experience!

Wow, fantastic steak and the mashed potatoes were delicious, as were the fritti, actually it was all great with excellent service. Love the fact they have a lot of Antinori wines that are amazing quality too.

Still the best dining experience I’ve had in Florence by far. Fabio’s vibrant “buona sera” is always a delight to start the meal with and the Bistecca alla Fiorentina and truffle pasta are to die for. Second time here and still definitely coming back for more. 10 stars if I could.

Great experience. The t-bone steak is delicious, and the tiramisu is very good. Can do half portions on calamari also. Went back for a 2nd dinner.

Came here with my husband specifically for the Florentine steak and we were not disappointed! Everything was excellent! Waiter was super nice with a great personality and sense of humor. He also made a fabulous wine recommendation. I had asked about one wine and he recommended a different one instead and if was phenomenal! So glad we went with the recommendation. A must try!

What an amazing place! We came here cause we read the quality of the meat was really good. We tried the bisteccca alla fiorentina somewhere else so we decided to try another meat instead. We had a steak and a steak with pepper sauce. The meat quality was outstanding and cooked to perfection. It was super tender, juicy and full of flavour. Its not going to be cheap, but treat yourself cause its worth it! Staff is super helpful and kind as well

A real Florentine establishment with a unique atmosphere in the 16th century cellar roooms. Exceptionally well prepared food. Wild Boar Ragout and the Lasagna were fantastic drinks were excellent also.

One of the most famous restaurants in Florence.Is it worth the price?Their biggest problem was that the steak was not grilled as ordered.Their service was great and Souvenirs too.Also big thanks to waiter there.But honestly, Im not sure how it got the Michelin.Michelin must have been busy.

Must-do restaurant in Florence. Was here several years ago and had it on our list to visit again. Excellent staff, fantastic steaks, good wine list, creative starters. Add it you your list.

We visited Buca Maria on the day of our arrival in Florence and it was the perfect restaurant to start our Italian adventure and a great introduction to Italian food. Staff are very friendly and welcomed us with smiles. We enjoyed our dinner and reasonably priced too.

Lovely restaurant, incredible food. The staff were lovely and the food was unbelievable. The price is slightly higher than other local restaurants however it is well worth the small amount more. The steak was much bigger than expected and was fantasticly presented. The food shown is the seafood pasta, and the T Bone steak for one. Both were incredible and I would highly recommend them both. The house wine was very nice and reasonably priced, there was a very good selection of wines otherwise.

We walked in without a booking, luckily it was in a week-day and during low season, so we got a table!The service has been incredibly professional and efficient, even got a few jokes and comments to please our nationalities ahaha.About the food, needless to say it was excellent! We started off with pasta and artichoke, and followed with perfectly cooked meat with roasted potatoes! The meat was slightly more done than the traditional Florentine T-bone (usually cooked fairly rare), and tbh it’s more of my taste this way! For dessert, we had a slice of fresh fruit pie, simply delicious.From the bill perspective, obviously this is a bit more on the higher-end, given that the ingredients are all fresh (pasta is homemade btw).Highly recommend Buca Mario!Note: when we left, we were offered a canvas tote bag from the restaurant, will admit it turned out very useful for shopping endeavors in the city the following days!

We loved Buca Mario!!! We were a party of 4 and wanted to try the homemade Cappellacci with cheese, spinach, butter, and truffle as a starter. It is a 1st course pasta, but our waiter kindly obliged. He cut it into 4 portions tableside. It was AMAZING!!! If we ever go back, we will order it as a main course. It might be the most delicious pasta dish we had the pleasure to try in Florence.For dinners, we had Florentine T-bone, green peppercorn Filet, osso bucco, and pappardelle with wild boar. Everyone loved every bite! The food was really amazing.Our waiter was so much fun, attentive, friendly, and accommodating.The dessert cart came by and we ordered tiramisu which was prepared table side with fresh whipped cream.We had reservations and arrived when they opened at 7pm. By the time we were ready to leave, the restaurant was full and they had people waiting.

Tremendous service. Seems like the Florentine steak is the thing to get here, but we opted for pasta. We liked the wild boar pasta more than the rigatoni, but both were good. The mushroom salad came recommended but I would skip that next time - the chicken liver pate bruschetta looked great.

Nice steak and pasta. The steak for 2 is €82 and being 1.6kg is it very blue/raw in the middle. Which may or may not be to your taste. Like some other restaurants it is not served a hot plate so you can not cook more.

We walked by this place many times and we decided this would be our last meal in Italy. I have to say, it was like saving the best for last. All the restaurants and food in Florence was amazing, but I cannot say enough about this place. You just have to go and experience it. Make sure to get reservations as this place packs out and theres always a line.

What an amazing dinner of steak Florentine! We were there 10 years ago and we are back again! Reservations are a MUST! Every bit of food was fantastic! Their house Chianti is very nice, but if you want a really spectacular bottle then order the Sassaciaia! We ordered our steak done rare and the flavor was AMAZING! This is not a place to go for well done meat! Our waiter was amazing - we had a group of 8 from age 2 to 80 and he took care of all of us perfectly! A mainstay in Florence- been there since 1886! Do not miss this dinner!

Its best to reserve a table -it gets very full! The staff are so welcoming and attentive. The steak Fiorentina is to die for! The restaurant has a lovely historic feel, too. The price is high, but well worthwhile for a special occasion... Like a trip to Florence.
