Ristorante Alla Vecchia Bettola Firenze in Florence
Description
Privilege
Amazing food. Amazing service. And you even get to drink all the wine you want for 4 eur. Ate there 2 times and the menu was different each day. Strongly recommend this place.
MoreI passed here the night before and notice how busy it was with locals and knew we had to try it. So glad we did as its such a great experience, the food was deliscous, fresh and quick. We of course got the house pasta, which lived up to all the hype, we also go the beef pasta (cant remember the nameand the fungi pasta aswell the chicken, which we didnt really need as we were stuffed from the pasta but it was all so tasty. Its super busy but the waiters were still postive, friendly and welcoming. 100% recommend coming here for a unqiue tuscan cusine experience!
MoreLikely the best pasta we’ve had in Florence. We went back twice during our 3 day visit in Florence because it’s that good. Order the rigatoni!
MoreGreat Florentine fare. Very busy, book in advance. Dining room is very loud - trattoria vibes. Service is efficient.
MoreOur favorite place in Florence! Lovely food and wine, for a very good price. We were surrounded by local Italians, it felt very authentic. Longing to come back!
MoreThis was highly recommended by our hotel but did not deliver. The restaurant was extremely crowded and noisy, despite a reservation we were waiting for 30 minutes. The service was rushed and no one checked in on our meal, completely ignored. My son asked for well done steak and it came rare which he couldn’t eat it at all. Maybe that was our offense in ordering the meat cooked but, he is only 12. My advice for families is to come early, try to eat outside and stick with pasta.
MoreI wish I could speak in angels language because this experience was surely heavenly.I have tasted true culture and excellent gastronomy there. Not to mention the tiny little local pie they just gave me as gift in the end.I have obviously been blessed with the opportunity to have been there. Grazie mille Vecchia Bettola.
MoreA true Italian experience. Menu is only in Italian, waiters will assist in helping understand. Restaurant seats people at available open tables which is part of the charm. I enjoyed talking to strangers at the table. The food was delicious.
MoreI have no trouble traveling across the world for good food, and this what I did here. This restaurant was one of the main reasons I’ve traveled to Florence. And I was very disappointed with everything except the pasta, I always like to order something myself and one order to be recommended by the staff, and I wish I didn’t because I’ve eat the worst steak in my life, I got a 13kg rare cooked stake, I had to chew the first bite for a minute or two and then I gave up, then I saw that the stake is 78€. If you want to go just order pasta.
MoreExcellent food and wine!Make sure you have a reservation, or your chances of a table are slim.
MoreWe went here for lunch and would absolutely come back. The Bettola pasta with the house wine was a delicious and value-for-money meal. Very nice waiter. Highly recommend.
MoreWonderful experience. After twenty years this restaurant never disappoints. We found it that long ago when we noticed a long line of locals waiting to get in. On our recent visit in June we ate there twice in three nights.
MoreFast and full on trattoria experience. Every table orders the penne alla bettola and it will be served very quickly. Tables became available close to 10pm. With their fast service you could still get a decent meal in but would recommend booking. Phone number is in the picture attached but we happened to be in the area and made a booking earlier in the day in person. Mix of Italians and tourists, definitely not a local only spot and staff speak good English and will explain menu items (like the Fiorentina sizing and recommendations for sides).
MoreBest place we ate in Florence. The penne vodka sauce might be the best pasta I have had in my life. Local restaurant full of Italians in a less touristy neighborhood (so pull out your Google translator for the menu rather than complaining they don’t have an English menu). Really good prices and super nice waiters. Pretty loud communal tables. I recommend coming for a lunch. But seriously don’t hesitate and go. I put a photo of my empty plate to demonstrate how much I liked it!
MoreThe restaurant was recommended by our air bnb host and we really appreciate the meal there ! The restaurant atmosphere was very cozy and food is well done. We order spaghetti with (loaded !!of porcini mushroom and penne alla bettola which is really gooooood, perhaps the best we have in florence. Hope to visit again !
MoreOur hotel recommended this place. We checked online if we can book but some reviews said that you cant book. We went there at 19:10 knowing that theyre opening at 19:30. Staff saw us but didnt say anything while we wait. At 19:30 they started setting up tables and said theyre fully booked and cant take us. Then sent us to their other restaurant across the street which was open since we started waiting. The menus were similar even though some items were missing but prices were cheaper. We had our food which was just ok then left. While leaving they still had empty tables in the first restaurant.
MoreWonderful, wonderful, wonderful. The staff was exceptionally friendly and the fellow patrons to match. We were pleasantly surprised by the simple but tasty food. We had the house pasta, salad, eggplant parmagian, and risotto. Great authentic Italian osteria. Cannot recommend enough!
MoreOne of my favorite restaurants in Florence. Why?Because it’s unapologetically Italian that don’t need to cater to tourist. It’s authentic and so freaking tasty. The waiters are very cool too. Friendly just don’t be intimidated about the Italian only menu- learn some phrases or take out ur translation app and order your heart away: you won’t retreat it.Oh and make reservations bc this place gets packed.
MoreAs other reviews said, this place is amazing, filled with locals and the overall ambiance of the place smell of true italy. The penne alla bettola is a must-try once in a lifetime.
MoreI have never been treated this badly in a restaurant in my entire life. Another guest got so drunk that he basically fell onto our table, pushed my friend of of his chair and worst of all spilled all of our bottle of red wine across our table which completely ruined my (new!white dress. Neither the guest nor his wife apologised. But neither did the restaurant owner or the waiter!!! In fact, nobody even payed us any attention afterwards- nobody cleaned our table, nobody brought us a new bottle of wine or new plates or napkins- nothing. We had to ask for the bill 3 seperate times and waited for it longer than 20 minutes- mind you this happened after the whole incident. As far as the food goes, the pasta was very good but the Carpaccio and meatballs were rather mediocre. There is also no air-conditioning which makes the room feel rather stuffy. A horrible experience.
MoreYou know it’s good when all the locals come here. The Penne as many others have mentioned is a MUST try. As well, the house wine is delicious for 5 euros for each head, you may as well get it as they give a whole bottle for your table.
MoreMy wife and I had our favourite meal in Firenze here. Staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations and the house red would make any meal 5 stars. Couldnt believe how good the value was for the food they put out. Will definitely return next time were in town. Naughty bait
MoreNot worth the hassle. Very touristy. After several tries, we got in for lunch. Food was fine, no better than anywhere else, especially other locals places like Sabatino. Server was inattentive, except to rush us. Seems like another place long since living on past glory.
MoreAmazing pasta, penne is great, broccoli has good flavor but a little overcooked. Water included with cover charge which is nice for Italy! They forgot to give us house wine so then gave us free limoncello shots too!
MoreThis place came recommended by an Italian local and it was phenomenal. The atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff and the food was top. Every morsel of food was full of flavor. We’re already talking about coming here for dinner tomorrow night. Wonderful.
MoreFantastic local experience for a late night dinner amongst the locals. Staff was so friendly helpful and swift. Would go back any minute.
MoreWent for dinner the other night and had a great experience overall! The penne is a must! They have cheap house wine and the staff was very friendly! The only negative would be that they brought our check out before we were done and rushed us out a bit so they could have the table, but I’d still go back!
MoreFor a special Florentine dinner, La Vecchia Bettola is the place to go. It has the traditional first courses of pasta that make you glad to be living in Florence to enjoy them when you want. The second courses are specialties based on beef and veal that melt in your mouth. This place is very popular with tourists as well as residents, so it is necessary to reserve. One can sit outside too.
MoreWe went for a dinner there, a very nice place. Good antipasti, penne alla bettola were amazing. Had berries with ice for dessert, was refreshing and tasty. The waiters are also friendly, one of my favorite places in Florence now
MoreTruly local, great food, seriously reasonable prices! €60 for wine appetizers meat and vinsanto for dessert! Great service and stunning location! Ill be back!!!
MoreThis is hands down the best restaurant in Florence. We went back multiple times and will continue to eat here every time we visit. It is a must! Also, don’t skip a cafe at the end of your meal.
MoreThe food was amazing, great service.
Amazing typical Florentinian trattoria, also evident by mostly locals eating! Highly recommend.
MoreLast time I had a penne alla bettola, and it was so delicious that I visited again. This time I got Pappardelle and again very satisfied. Tiramisu was gteat, as well. Very authentic, at the least.
MoreMost local spot in Florence! Lots of Italian friends, families and couples were enjoying the evening together with us being the only tourists. Atmosphere - check! Food - just go and make sure to try their pasta penne!
MoreAmazing food. My favorite spot in Firenze. The penne bettola is amazing and the best Florentine steak around.
MoreTry their lamp stuffed with artichokes. So good! Generally really great menu :)
10/10 penne alla vodka- incredible, creamy, best pasta I’ve had, fair price too (€11 I think?). Tiramisu was good but nothing too special, house wine was good and cheap. Finished off with complimentary shots!Busy and bustling atmosphere but feels very authentic (no English on the menus, loads of locals etc). Given it 4/5 as I haven’t had enough of the dishes to give it full ratings yet- Excited to come back to try more !
MoreWe’ve been here twice. The food is always excellent. But the guy in charge is such a grumpy toad. The first time we witnessed him speaking in a very patronizing, unpleasant way to a very sweet and eager waiter. We were sitting outside and halfway through our meal we were moved to another table to make room for other guests. Both tables were fine, we didn’t have a problem with it - but it seems this sort of thing happens a lot... especially if you’re not Italian. So this time we asked for a table outside when we booked (on Tuesday for Saturday night), and when we arrived we were told our table was inside... directly in front of the serving window... at a table with two other people, also non-Italians, who didn’t know each other. Again, we had no problem with this, but it was just an interesting observation that all the foreigners in the house were kind of clumped together in one area of the room (we overheard the English couple next to us saying they had also booked a table outside)... also, the 12€ antipasto with mushrooms is amazing and fresh, but in about any other place in Florence you’d pay 6€ for it. My porcini pasta was the best, with a very generous amount of mushrooms. The food here will NEVER disappoint but the guy in charge puts a strange damper on the otherwise relaxed, homey atmosphere. And you might be paying slightly more here...
MoreI loved it. And I think my mates loved it too. We shared our table with somebody else which is good as long as we enjoyed our food and also we met someone new, good for socialising too. Mostly locals here but I think thanks too social media us (touristsdiscover this nice authentic place. I highly recommend this place.
MoreGood food, we both enjoyed the penne with vodka sauce and the tiramisu. And €4 per person for unlimited house red wine is fun!Make a reservation; we were there at 7:30 on a Wednesday and had to sit outside as the inside was all booked up.
MoreGood service, good food, my portion was good, house wine ok. (for €4 per person u get a bottle). I got a coffee and a degistevo for free. But prepare to pay Big money.
MoreLoved it. A great local not touristy place, great food, best tiramisu ever and very good prices and very friendly staff (easy to understand when they speak to you and the also understand easily). They bring the food very quickly, and they are ready the moment you walk out of the heat and into the restaurant. The restaurant also has very good house wine, and goes very well with the food. Its also decently cheap (less than 130 euros for 6 people).
MoreWait staff were incredibly lovely and food came out quickly. The food was nice but not fancy at all, very homely and low key. A nice night out.
MoreBest place to eat in Florence. Make sure to call an hour before open and make a reservation. The Penne was phenomenal and in my opinion one of the best.
MoreDefinitely deserves a Michelin star. The house wine is superb. The best part is that you get to drink all you want for a nominal price. Definitely a place to visit in Florence.
MoreA quaint Osteria with loaded history in a comfortable location. The staff speaks English and pay attention to detail. And are open quite early. Will surely go back there as their typical Florentine menu is an adventure in itself
MoreOverall food was great, staff was friendly, but the restaurant was small. Even though we made a reservation we still have to share table with other ppl.The pasta in the picture (too bad I couldn’t remember the name of the menuwas sooo good!! A recommended menu from me!
MoreTrue Italian cooking at its best. I dream of this pasta (see picand have it everytime I come to Florence. Definitely worth a visit for the true taste of Tuscany. You definitely have to book or wait for a table as it is very popular depending on what time you go.
MoreThis place was amazing 5 years ago when I stumbled in here and its still amazing now. Waited around 45 min but thats not too bad for a place thats this packed. The waiters are very nice and you can chat them up, even though theyre very busy.€4 house wine no matter how much you drink, even if you kill a 1.5L bottle. The penne alla bettola is delicious and slightly spicy; they say "very spicy" but it is Italy after all. The fiorentina steak here is just so good. So juicy, so savory, a bit closer to medium well (I like anything from black and blue to medium rare so thats fine by meso it may be more accessible than steak from other restaurants.10/10 recommend
