Riley Moore Falls - Hiking area in Anderson, United States
You owe it to yourself to go and take your family or yourself to the very beautiful falls area there’s no better place on a hot Sunday .
You cannot make it down the road unless you have a capable 4x4. And probably not the Jeep you “off road” at the mall parking lot. There is one spot a vehicle with ground clearance will get down, but I’d be shocked if you got back up.All in all quick hike in. Easy enough, up will get you pumping a bit more. The falls are beautiful and the water is shallow and good for swimming.I was disappointed in the amount of garbage I saw.Decent place to sleep , but holy damp…
Very pretty place to visit. Just be aware that if you have young kids the hike in is easy but coming back will be a little tough for them. Same for people with bad knees. Otherwise a great place to have some fun.
Loved the experience, there’s not a lot of people and the river it’s clean and not deep. Absolutely coming back!“Leave your car on the side of the road, it’s better to walk down there because it’s tough; when coming back it’s all uphill and the walk might take like 25 minutes but absolutely worth it”.
Had a great time with family
The logging road is okay for off road vehicles, but I didnt trust the minivan and walked down. About a mile and a half in if you park at the top of the logging road. The waterfall is beautiful and wide with a large pool to swim and wade in. Several people were jumping off the rock on the opposite bank. There are ledges in places under the falls where you can sit and have the water crash onto your shoulders and it is very relaxing. The hike out is all uphill, ut bot terrible. Overall a great family day.
The hike in wasnt too bad, but the hike back was a bit more of a workout. There are big roots sticking up on the trail, so watch your step! The water itself is beautiful and nice to swim in.
The lengthy hike to the trail and then to the falls is well worth the reward of this beautiful area. Too treacherous for strollers or wheelchairs.
Beautiful, this place is truly the best! One of my top 3! Maybe 15 minute hike to the waterfall if you drive to the trailhead ♥️
Easy hike. The falls arent spectacular, but theyre worth walking down. Theres a nice beach area where you can sit and enjoy.
Really beautiful place with a huge beach to hang out on. The road to the parking area is very rough. You definitely need a high clearance vehicle, my 4runner did fine. There is one spot that will complete bottom out your vehicle. If you dont have 4wd use your best judgment. Its not in an easy spot to get to.
Lovely place. Nice walks and plenty of space.
Great short hike. There is a beautiful falls and a nice swimming hole with a beach
Nice, pretty level hike, takes about 30 minutes to reach the falls from where you park your car. Its super clean and no cell service. Great place for dogs and swimming in the hot summer.
Hiked here the day before the snowstorm. The hike itself isn’t bad at all and clearly marked.Driving to the trailhead is a bit daunting so I’d suggest an SUV to get over the craters.Overall it was a beautiful hike with an awesome waterfall. I see the other reviews complain of crowds but due to the weather and inability to swim, it was just us.
Beautiful falls. Not a bad hike to. Crowds quickly.
Drive down a gravel road, till you get to a turn off for the falls. The road is not great, but if you have a 4x4 you can make it. Depending on how the weather has been lately, you might get a regular truck down half way. If not, hike the road all the way down to the trail head. Once on the trail, keep following up and down until you get to the most breath taking place. Triple falls, swimming spot and little beach. The climb back is rough and up hill most of the way.
The hike was pretty strenuous but definitely worth it once you get to the falls. Beautiful place to spend the day with family
This is a great little swimming hole if you dont mind the walk down. The pool just below the falls is plenty deep enough to swim in while enjoying the beauty of the falls themselves. The actual trail is a couple of switch backs on a narrow path. At the falls there is a beach like area right at the base of the falls. There werent many places to set our stuff that didnt have ants on it. The only problem we had was the road leading down to the trailhead was impassable for our sedan and the road leading to that was just a narrow gravel drive with a spot with some steep drop offs. So expect a bumpy ride and a long walk to the falls.
This is a really nice spot. The falls arent really high, but its a good spot to relax and hop in the water for a while. Theres a nice little beach where you can hang out and enjoy the falls.I had to park on the road as the primative road going to the trail would not be nice to my car.The trail isnt bad. There are a lot of tree roots sticking up from the ground and also had to step over a downed tree.Walking back was a little tougher as it was mostly uphill and it was quite muggy. I was also wearing a backpack so by the time I was back to my car I was drenched in sweat and catching my breath. Its a nice spot and Id return again.
Great swimming hole and beautiful waterfall. Gets a little crowded but there is alot of space at pool. Easy hike about a half mile from the nearest parking area. The road down to the parking area would be a questionable in a car but any SUV or truck should be fine. Its about a mile from the top down to the main parking area/trailhead. There is parking at the top though.
Beautiful place quiet not a lot of traffic good little hike if you dont have four wheel drive
Great spot to go for a swim and enjoy nature! Hike back is all up hill but totally worth it!
So pretty! Not a bad hike on foot, way back is all uphill. Worth it though! Can drive 4 wheel drive half way if you wanted to and hike the rest. Sandy when you get to the water, swimming and wading also if you want to!
Great little hike. If you have four-wheel drive vehicle be sure the travel down the dirt road and then start your hike.
Amazing waterfall and beach area. Secluded which is nice, def worth the hike down!
This hike is great for beginners or experienced day hikers. The falls are beautiful. You can park your car and hike the mile to the start of the trail or SUV down all the way to the trail head and only hike the short trail to the falls. The trail is well marked and easy to navigate.
Enjoyed this fairly easy hike to the water falls on a nice cool February day. It is a little over 2 miles there and back.
Wonderful hidden treasures in our planet, you have to search for it to enjoy the therapeutic getaways.
Getting there can be a challenge and the walk is short but the view is great. I have a truck so when maps said it was 7+ miles away I drove down the extremely rough road only to walk but 1/2mile to the falls. It isnt that far to walk. Park and walk dont get stuck.
Didnt realize I COULD have driven my 4x4 truck half way in (a standard car wont make it). But its nice... A LOT of litter along the trail. I wish people would show more respect for places like this.
Its a 2.4m round trip unless you have a HIGH clearance 4X4. Nice swimming spot for all ages. Lots of fun.
Beautiful falls and great swimming hole! A bit of a trek, so pack accordingly. Dont forget: if you pack it in, pack it out.
Beautiful place to visit. The hike is very easy on the way down, but a little tougher (uphillon the way back. Because of the easy to access trail, this is a pretty heavily trafficked spot. Chances arent high that you will be there all alone. Also, because it is so trafficked, there is a lot of trash and debris, which is a real shame. Make sure to take a 4x4 is you can, because you will have to walk quite a ways further if you cant drive down to the trail head. We did see two different snakes while we were there (one was a copperhead), and there was a bear and cub sighting (not by meso just be wary of the wildlife.
My family and I decided to visit the falls today. When we turned on the gravel road to the trail. I was a little nervous about my truck fitting but it was ok as long as I drove in the middle. When you get to the trail it’s best to park and walk unless you have a 4x4. It’s a a short hike through the woods but not too bad, you have to watch out for tree branches sticking out, because I almost fell on my face a few times. I brought along my fishing pole and pulled out catfish, carp, trout and a sunfish. My brother in law got a bass. My family had a lot of fun swimming. Will come back again. 🙂also helpful note: bring water shoes in your bag, it will be easier to walk because there are rocks in the river.
Had a great time at this place. Nice hike down to the falls. You might go with backpacks instead of coolers with wheels - trust me. Once at the bottom, there were multiple families with kids and dogs and everyone was really nice and shared the space respectfully. Beautiful area, perfect vibe. Totally recommend for couples or families to have a good time together! The walk back up was not even that difficult, but wear appropriate shoes for hiking and travel as light as possible.
Riley Moore Falls on the Chauga River in Westminster, South Carolina is magnificent for a shorter fall. It is a 12 feet drop on the Chauga River. The width spans the entire width of the riverbed. The flow is strong and the volume loud. There are several rapids above and below it. It is a short hike, about 2 miles round trip. Great place to take the family. Great swimming in the warmer months.
You will have to drive up an unpaved road I did that in my ford Fiesta then there will be a point where the road forks IF YOU DONT HAVE A JEEP OR TRUCK PARK RIGHT THERE! It is about a mile hike but well worth it
Cool place to check out! Layout, swim, wade, or just take pics it’s awesome! Little over a mile hike and a couple miles down a dirt road to get to the hike!
Well worth the trek. I would not recommend going down the vehicle portion of the trail with something less than a 8in ground clearance, otherwise you WILL scrape the bottom of your vehicle. The foot path is very easy to navigate. Our dog loved it as well.
Easy hike, a little steep going down, but not bad at all. Parking is about .7 miles away from the start of the trail (unless you have a 4 wheel drive type vehicle the waterfall was beautiful and it was a great place to swim.... if you love freezing cold water lol.
Easy to find, bit of a walk to get to it. Roughly 20 mins, if you are not much of a hiker will take longer. Way back was tough cos of the heat and it was mostly up hill. If you have a 4x4 you can make it closer and save at least 15 mins on walking. Excellent falls and you can take a dip and picnic if you plan right.
I have been visiting Riley More Falls for over 20 years and there is no other place like it! The Chauga River is magical and the fishing is spectacular! Upstate SC is one of the most beautiful places on Earth and I am blessed to live here!
What an adventure! If your vehicle isnt four wheel drive, park on the side of the road. The walk to the falls is about 1.5ish miles, but beautiful. The walk back is uphill, so unless youre an Olympic athlete, youll stop to breathe at least 7 times. Have plenty of water with you.The falls are breathtaking!! You can even go under the falls and look super cool. Dont recommend if youre not a strong swimmer or arent covered in floaties...the current is strong. All in all, everything was worth it...even the walk back.
Definitely going back. Its one of my favorite places to go, the hike is definitely worth it
Beautiful place. Will definitely be back. Very well maintained trail and beach area. Kids, adults and dogs will have a blast. Just a note though....if you have a hard time with hills, heat, distance dont go. Thought the falls were a mile of pretty easy trails according to some other posts. This is not true. Hiked in a little way downhill on a trail wide enough for vehicles but pretty rough terrain. Opened up to a parking area with a tight turn around area. Then hiked all downhill the rest of the way. Not too bad but coming back is tough...up hill the entire way. Bring your water!
Our kids love it here! Moderate walk. You are able to climb in behind the waterfall! (Be cautious because sometimes the water is too deep in the tunnelIt has a nice beachy area and swimming area.
Stunning Waterfall where you can wade in the water or relax on the peaceful beach. A bit of a hike and drive but absolutely worth it!
Amazing Place to visit. Some important facts ,Zero cell phone service once at the falls though. If you have a car thats low to the ground, You will have to hike. Do not attempt to drive down to the last parking area!
Its a moderate hike of about a quarter-mile. That is if you drive back to the parking area. You should be aware that the trail to the parking area is not suited for most vehicles. There are a lot of humps that my Tahoe barely made it over. This is better suited for Jeep Wranglers or other 4X4 vehicles that have a short wheel base. Regardless plenty of people hiked all the way in from the road. Dont worry the reward is worth the hike. This may be the most beautiful spot I have ever seen in South Carolina and I travel all over the state and teach South Carolina history.
