Museumstraat 1, 1071 XX Amsterdam, Netherlands, Utrecht
19th-century building housing Dutch Golden Age painting masterpieces & vast European art collection.
Fantastic! If you are a tourist in Amsterdam I highly recommend coming here. A few things: set aside atleast 2h30m. There is a lot to see. You should eat before you come! Definitely download the app (or pay for their audio systemand do the guided audio tour, definitely worth your while. Also dont forget to check out the special exhibit on the first floor next to the bathrooms, really cool ships and guns.
Very cool museum. Wide variety of exhibits from different artists and on different subjects, like a cool special collection of ship models. I like that some artwork had an extra caption that reckoned with slavery in relation to the artist, subject, or time of the piece. I also liked the museum conservation focus of the Night Watch, its important to recognize the work that goes into art conservation so that people are able to see art thats hundreds of years old.Tickets were a bit pricey but the museum is huge so felt like it was worth it.
Rijksmuseum is my favourite museum so far, the atmosphere is beyond amazing. Every piece is extremely detailed, lots of different themes and everything is superb categorised in a way you get lost between all the pieces with joy, yet you also know what you are really looking at and what it is about. The building itself is gigantic, majestic, and the garden is just stunning. I cannot describe it well with words, all I can say is every human being should visit this place and feel the history, art and culture.
The museum was the highlight from my trip in Amsterdam. I felt so thrilled between the statues, the famous paintings from Vermeer and his peers, and the layout of the building which allows for contemplation even in the most trivial places.Definitely recommend it.
This place is magnificent. While this place may look overwhelming, the amazingly friendly staff are super helpful and extremely knowledgeable. There are so many wonderful and historic artifacts to see at this museum so make sure you plan at least 2.5 hours. You can just get lost in so many paintings. This is an absolute must see if you are coming to Amsterdam.
Probably the best museum in Amsterdam. Clearly the most famous paintings are in the gallery of honor, but we saw lots of other interesting works. There are audio guides that allow you to do just the highlights or to type in a number in front of a picture. We spent about three hours here and could have spent more. Definitely recommend.
An absolute must, one of the best museums in the world, with a huge and magnificent collection. From the famed The Night Watch and other Rembrandt pieces, and van Gogh and Vermeer, to the wonderful smaller collections throughout this magnificent institution. Of particular enjoyment was the glorious Research Library, lined with books from floor to ceiling, wall to wall. Could probably spend a whole week wandering the corridors of this extraordinary museum.
Loving it. No cash payment. Need to booked and pay in advance by App. Waiting time approximately 30 minutes. Friendly team on duty. Restaurant inside got full easily. I had coffee and muffin at the inside kiosk corner. Would have been nice to have it in more spots due to its busyness.
How fantastic is this museum! Massive recommendation definitely for anyone in Amsterdam it’s a complete must to come here !I spend the whole morning looking threw every single park as possible.I got a bit confused as it branches up in one half and then you need to go to another half but just ask the security they all so helpful!Make sure you book your ticket online early to avoid the disappointment when you there !
One of the best museums in Europe. From early history to modern times, perfectly runs you through Dutch history, art, lifestyle and many other things related to The Netherlands. Especially interesting to learn more about Dutch East India Company through paintings and relics, see various types of ships used during exploration age and seeing vast collection of firearms.
No matter how many times I visit the museum, I am always impressed by beautiful paintings. If you get tired, you can take a break in front of the stained glass or take a break at the cafe near the entrance. There is a lot of greenery around the museum, and it feels good.
Amazing museum, beautiful, and filled with many things to see. There are more than 1,000,000 objects on several different floors. We didnt take our time, and it still took 2 ½ hours to see everything. We had some issues accessing our purchased tickets (did it before going in, because its required), but the staff was excellent and super helpful. If you have time to do one thing in Amsterdam in terms of museums, I would highly recommend the Rijksmuseum.
Beautiful museum!! Must see... It has something for everyone... It has been set up so nicely, so you can find your way to certain sections easily. It was an awesome experience.
Visited on Pride Saturday (before I knew it was prideand it was still relatively busy, but not too crazy. Definitely buy tickets in advance. You need a timed entry to get in. This is a great museum with a pretty large variety of art. The 1700-1800 section was particularly beautiful.
Huge beautiful museum with a lot of famous paintings. Its a must to do when you visit Amsterdam. Buy the tickets before coming ( since you need to pick a slot of timeand be prepared to spend at least 4 hours there ;)If you read every sign, i guess a day wont be enough though. The workers are nice and really helpful.NB: the museum can be a little bit cold for some people
What an amazing experience! The museum is huge. We were there 3 hours and had to run to see everything. I would recommend you to go early and with time to see everything with the detail it deserves. The staff was also very nice.
Absolutely loved it. Tickets were easy to order with QR codes at the door, the tour was also easily accessible via a QR code that downloaded an app. I would recommend bringing your own headphones/earphones to listen to the tour (else you would have to rent a headset and audio guide). All artwork was properly honored and given spotlight to.
Wow! I needed lots and lots of time to go through this amazing art museum!! I recommend getting tickets on line. Lots of greats are on display! So many great works that I need to go back and spend another day! Great audio tour! Bring your headphones so you can listen in on your personal phone!
Very beautiful and big museum with a large collection of different things. Note that to visit you are required to book a time slot. The museum has a large collection if paintings and other pieces of art. On the ground floor there is also a large collection of boat models that were used to design ships and explain how to operate ships. The museum also has a small restaurant, it it a bit expensive but fine.
Book your slot on their website in advance, and I would also recommend creating a "custom route" on the museum app, selecting some of the artworks youd like to see. The museum is massive, but what I really liked was the Asia exhibit in the lower floor. Vermeers Milkmaid and Rembrandts The Nightwatch are undoubtedly the most famous artworks here, so dont miss them either 😃
A visit to the Rijkmuseum is an absolute must for anyone that remotely appreciates art and history. The collection will get even those uninterested excited. The museum’s location is great, and all the staff are helpful and cheerful.I’d recommend the family quest to anyone coming with children, or anyone that wants some goofy fun.
A massive museum with options for anyone who loves and appreciates art. You could easily spend many hours in here, but if your time in Amsterdam is limited, see the Great Hall, the Night Watch, and then use the map to focus on the rooms that interest you most. I was impressed by the organization of the museum-it was so easy to find the rooms I was looking for. I was also impressed by the way the museum handles the painful past of slavery and the Holocaust in this part of the world. It is definitely worth it to spend at least an hour or two in this museum.
Definitely worth a visit if your in Amsterdam with a few hours to spare. This vast building is home to many great works of fine art displayed elegantly among the different floors of this amazing building. For 20 euros per adult, it’s a good investment of your time and money. The waiting time for the restaurant however is far to long although there is a small coffee bar inside as well.
Not only for adults interesting, but excellent work shops for children. Garden & fountain to step in and get great image! Coffee and tea at the same garden area with jasmine in blossom...isnt it a miracle at the down town of crowded Amsterdam! Enjoy!
Coming from the U.S. we dont have as much art as in Europe. This experience was fantastic. In a solo trip I was able to walk through the entire museum. One day is not enough. I love Dutch and Flemish art. They have highly skilled artists (more than the German, the British, the Spanish, and even in my opinion also better than the French and the Italians. Id love to visit again and slowly melt away in the beauty of Dutch Art.
Great collection of Dutch masters. A big museum and it can be a challenge to find some rooms. Im sure I missed some sections completely. I would recommend the first floor and then the coffee in the cafe and then move to the second floor where all the highlights are. Or go straight to the Gallery of Honour.
I dont know how many pictures are allowed from inside, because I have taken several hundreds of them, so Ill add just a few here, but if you are in Amsterdam, this is something you must visit! This place is worth visiting every penny! We did quite fast tour, and that lasted 2.5 hours. You could easily spend whole day here. Especially if you are into one (or moreof arts this museum offers. Note that you can pay entrance only by credit cards!!! I have added a few things that were the most beautiful to me in our visit. When Im back to Amsterdam next time, Ill visit this place again for sure!
Must see! Around 20€ if you dont have a museum card. preferably book in advance.Great variety of collections, Resting places, and easy to navigate. It can take more than one day to see everything IMO. Yet depends on how fast you are or skipping still can easily be 4-5 hours. The cafe inside is nice and its open until 6 pm.And as usual a museum shop (overpriced)
I have visited this grand Museum and Gallery three times and each time I discover more, learn more and marvel more at the character of the Dutch people. This museum and gallery portrays there extraordinary innovations on everything from seafaring to furniture building and the finest of fine art.Take a power back up for your mobile phone because it will be snapping all day.
Must visit but if you want space choose your time well. Too many people in there on my visit. If you want an audio guide, book it first! For a museum not have enough is not good for anyone. They have a small solution with an app and headphones but the audio is probably more comprehensive. The cafe is nice but wait to get seated. Great apple pie!
Beautiful museum with so many things to see. There was so many types of art and from all around the world! (Mind you, a good chunk of it was stolenthere were a lot of different exhibits to appeal to anyone.
One of the most important art museums in the Netherlands, with pieces such as the milkmaid, night watch and other Rembrandt, Vermeer pieces. Tickets do get sold out for the day, so do book in advance to secure a slot. It also gets really crowded on weekends, so come early if possible. Nice interpretive posters are provided for the most noteworthy pieces.
It is an incredible museum. The permanent collection is divided in for periods and is amazing. You can see the differences between each period. It costs 20 euros and you can stay all day if you want. The tickets are purchased online.
Wonderful museum but also very traditional. So many museums now try to be a bit different to engage different target groups to art. If I’m being completely honest it did get a bit boring at times but that is to be expected. I really loved the library and a lot other things as well.
Its a very cool museum with clear focus on Dutch art. Descriptions are available in English, you can take pictures of whatever you want, theres also a good cafe in case you get thirsty or hungry during your tour.
Absolutely stunning collection. The Night Watch did not disappoint, but dont rush by the other exhibits. One painting literally brought me to tears. The staff was helpful and the gift shop had a great selection to pick up a nice memento.
Amazing place and really nice, helpful staff, would recommend spending the entire day here however as its massive!Best place for Art! And you can drop your coats and back packs off at reception for free
Can’t find any word to describe this museum.Check the website in advance to get the ticket because you also need to select time slot to enter the museum. Not sure if you want to see everything in one day because this amazing museum has a lot of collections. But if you do, better come early.
Great place, with many very beautiful paintings, sculptures and all kind of old objects, amazingly preserved. I would recommend a guided tour or an audio guide, for the beautiful stories behind all this workart. I also loved the gift shop and the restaurant inside the museum. The garden outside is amazing, too.
This is probably one of the best museums Ive visited. The collection is excellent. Its a must-see in Amsterdam. I recommend buying your tickets online in advance. Those only need to be scanned in the entrance of the museum.
They have audio tours both for your phone and an easy to use device (I got the device). Additionally they have docent led tours which I think is the best option since you can ask questions (I took this too. The cost for the device and the human led tour is 5 euros each and well worth it.For a classic museum I was surprise at how loud it is. Apparently the Dutch are very enthusiastic about their artists.
This museum is just amazing: the ticket is not cheap but its totally worth it! You could spend hours exploring the different collections, every piece has a description in both Dutch and English, there are free wardrobes and staff all around the building ready to answer every question. A must-go in Amsterdam.
One of the top museums here in Amsterdam and definitely a must-seen! Its very popular so better book the ticket in advance online. Its quite huge, if you wanna see everything you will have to take a whole day. The museun offers free apps which you can download easily on your phone, so you dont need to rent extra audio guide. Some of the important master pieces are on a tour exhibition so we didnt get to see then, which its a pity. Make sure you visit the museum gift shop! So many interesting items!
Must see. Seriously good collection. Book tickets in advance. Also worthwhile walking around the small gardens.Recommend the audio guide as it has commentary, a map with current location and suggested routes.Suggest you allocate 2.5 - 3.5 hours of viewing time, although you could rush through in 1.5 hoursFyi: At time of visiting (April 2022milkmaid was on loan
20 euro a head entrance tickets.Very large and well thought out exhibition.Has additional free to add rooms.Took us 2 hours to get around but you could easily spend a lot longer with the additional audio.Easy navigation, resting places, and signage was handy to follow. Friendly staff and of course an over priced store inside.Very nice visit
One of my favorite my museum in Europe.Such a great curation, such a rich collection. All the art pieces were perfectly preserved and most of them were in a very good condition. The oil paintings were in such good condition that they looked as if they had just been made. You need to spare at least half a day to visit the entire museum. You can take a coffee break inside and rest and continue where you left off.☕️
Dont think we average folks have the breadth of knowledge to rate one of the best museums out there. Everything flows perfect here. Its clean and well organized. Collection is one of the best in the world! Its a def go if you are in Amsterdam
Beautiful, big museum that holds various artwork. Unfortunately, our visit was cut short by the storm alert. We were told that were going to get an email with information about booking another date as a form of compensation but we never did. Anyways, the museum is worth a visit and its probably even better in spring and summer when the garden is open. It was quite refreshing to not have to wear masks inside. Felt normal again.
Short line to get in that went quickly. Lots to see so take you’re time going through. Plenty to read that explains everything. Family had a good time and we would go back. Everyone was really friendly and the staff was amazing.Multiple centuries are covered and I even think we missed a few sections. Off to see more of this beautiful city.
One of the most famous museums in Holland. This dutch capitals museum is located in a huge beautiful building. There are various floors with different objects exposed in every one of them. From medieval weapons to luxury jewelry in the first floor, you have the most important dutch authors of all times paintings also here. I would say to see it properly you would need to spend about 5 hours, since 4 hours like I did was not enough to see everything.
